Eden Chase is head over heels in love with her husband Tom. He's the sort of man who doesn't give much away but Eden doesn't mind that - Tom is worth the effort. So when he's accused of a years-old robbery and murder, Eden won't believe it. No, not her Tom - he's not capable of the things they're saying he did.
With Tom in prison, it's up to Eden to clear his name. But the closer she gets to the truth, the more she uncovers about her husband's past. Does she really know him, after all? As Eden goes deeper into the ugly underworld that holds the answers, the more danger she's exposed to and she's not sure she can save her husband in time. But is he even worth saving?
I was given this book by a friend and I do like a bit of a gangland style crime book. I've read Martina Cole books for years. I liked the main character, Eden, so was was a joy to follow her story. Lots of shady characters along the way. Plus, was surprised how well written it was. Won't give any of it away. Wasn't over the top with violence either. Very good read.
I feel bad slating this book because other people have written how they enjoyed it so much....however! This book is truly awful. The plot itself is fine, and the genre is probably exciting if you're into that, but the writing itself is dreadful. There are so many one-liners that the author must think are inspired, but they are so cringy and obtuse. I could barely get through the book, and if I read it now I would have given up at the scene with her dad in the restaurant- excruciatingly hard going for the reader. I would have given it more stars if I had just found it boring (why would you care about the lives of a few made up people and their relationships), but the author writes as though they think they are the best writer of their generation. I don't know how books of this low quality get published, but clearly people do buy it.
What an ending! Quite an easy read if you have a phone beside you. I reckon it would take me less than less than three days to finish the book if it had only few slangs... but this is just me being a nonnative speaker and unfamiliar with some of the terms. The ending is just what you need to finish the story. Personally, I loved the twists and turns. I'm giving it four stars, one star less for the names just popping around - I didn't know which is which or if the names had been mentioned earlier. Anyway, I got the hang of it and ended up enjoying the story. Definitely worth my time!
Excellent book loved the different angle of the story the charactors were fabulous,Eden i found was a lovable girl and strong as will be revealed through the book.I loved the story of armed robber Archie and i am sure you will too.worth the 5*
I have read all Martina Coles books and my mam recommended this one. WOW I wasn’t disappointed. Hooked from the moment I picked it up definitely will be reading more from Roberta Kray 👍🏼
Found this one a real struggle,no emotional connection with characters and found it long and drawn out to get to the plot which was pretty disappointing
Eden Chase is aware that her new husband Tom is a bit of a closed book but she doesn't care - they're in love, he's a successful photographer, and despite the disapproval of her father, they're happy together. Until the day Tom is arrested for a gangland murder committed in the 1960s and Eden realises that she has tied herself to a total stranger, one whose very identity is a secret she is forced to solve. "Exposed" is a highly entertaining novel set during the early 1980s in Roberta Kray's favourite location, the fictional East End borough of Kellston. Kray has a real knack for telling a story, especially one with an underworld vibe, and this book is no exception. The story gallops along at a good pace, the characters and plot are well constructed, and there is a satisfying little twist at the end, with room for a sequel. Very enjoyable read.
I started off with great expectations of this book. As I've read a few of Roberta Kray novels I expected great things again. However for me, this had no bite and not thrill. It was readable but didn't keep me hanging for more. The story was full of secrets and lies but it was a bit drawn out. At times a bit frustrating. I managed to finish it and was disappointed. I feel this wasn't for me. However Roberta Kray is still a good author i just think this was a completely different type of story to her usual type.
