My twin nephews have a birthday coming up so I couldn't resist snapping this up.

Goodnight Batcave is a parody of Goodnight Moon featuring everyone's favorite caped crusader produced by Mad Magazine. The art resembles what I remember the art from Mad being like and the prose mirrors that of Goodnight Moon.

What else do you need to know? For my brother, bedtime is like trying to herd the inmates back into Arkham Asylum so I'm hoping this takes the edge off a bit.

For an adult Bat-fan, I can't imagine a more fun children's book to read aloud. My girlfriend seemed entertained while I was reading it at the dinner table but that might have been pity. Five out of five stars.

“Goodnight, Batcave” is a clever parody of the beloved children’s book “Goodnight, Moon” that will amuse almost any Batman fan. While meant for adults, the illustrations and rhymes contain no objectionable content for little superheroes. It could be a fun bedtime reading departure from the usual.

Goodnight Batcave is a MAD Magazine parody of the children’s classic Goodnight Moon. Batman is getting ready for bed but suddenly his rogues gallery appears and he must defeat them all before he can go to sleep!

It’s your usual children’s book format: couple dozen pages in length, a rhyming line per page and very kid-friendly illustrations. I also like how Alfred is the dad, cleaning up after messy son Batman as he lies tuckered out snoozing at the end! Oh, er, spoilers.

Goodnight Batcave is a cute Batman-ized version of Goodnight Moon that DC fans with kids will probably enjoy reading with their little ones. Daww! And if this fails, there’s always “Go The Fuck To Sleep” read by Samuel L. Jackson!

I bought this as a Christmas gift for someone (a Batman fan), so of course I read it before I wrapped it. Because, yes, I read MAD magazines when I was a kid (not that I understood everything in them then) and, yes, when my children were very young, I read Goodnight Moon to them more times than I can remember. So, why not read this?

An overtired Batman needs a goodnight rogues brawl to help him settle down for the night. A batload of visual gags works well with the parodied verse of Goodnight Moon. Cute.

'Goodnight Batcave' by Dave Croatto with illustrations by Tom Richmond is an unauthorized 'Goodnight Moon' parody as done by MAD Magazine. As you might imagine, it is hilarious.

Poor Batman. He is tired. So tired, that he is falling asleep in his chair in the Batcave. He should go to bed, but unfortunately, some of his famous enemies have broken into the Batcave, so they will have to be dealt with first. What's a tired superhero to do?

The art style is very cartoonish with Batman sporting a huge upper torso in exaggerated superhero style. I love how they snuck Alfred E. Neuman into the rogues list on Batman's computer. I also love how Batman says goodnight to objects as they are used to subdue the bad guys (Goodnight phone, goodnight chair, etc.).

It may not help children settle down to bed, but it's a great parody, and made me feel tired just with all the exertion poor tired Batman has to go through. I had a fun time reading this and it would make a great gift book for the Batman fan in your life.

I received a review of this ebook from DC Entertainment and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this ebook.

Bwahahahahaha I can't stop laughing at this "good night" rhyme about a Batman regular night!! It is fresh and funny and the illustrations were awesome!! This is a parody of the super hero who has to deal with villains every night of every day of his superhero life, and he ends up so tired after a busy day of fighting crime!!
I loved all the pets he had, the bat, the dog and I also loved his bat toys!!
Great entertainment for the night!!

A Batman parody of Goodnight Moon was a clever idea with poor execution. It had the same kind of cadence and look as Goodnight Moon, but it just fell flat. It wasn't really funny, given that it came out of MAD magazine. It was just an odd Batman version of the book.

Received an advance copy from DC and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Ohmigosh! This was so freaking funny.

Mad Magazine does an awesome parody of Goodnight Moon. These rhymes are excellent.

If you're a Bat-fan, this is a must. I'm gong to have to pick this up.

Thanks to NetGalley and DC Comics for a copy in return for an honest review.

There are many simple pleasure that come with a child that single people don't understand or appreciate, one of them is reading your child a bedtime story. As a new dad, I found this sharing of reading a wonderful experience, and my favorite book to read to my son is Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown. What could be better than sharing a book with your child, how about sharing a book that also incorporates your all time favorite hero? Insert Goodnight Batcave by Dave Croatto and Tom a Richmond. At first I thought this was a joke when I stumbled across an ad for it while reading Wonder Woman Rebirth, but low and behold it was the real deal. Croatto's novel lovingly inserts The Dark Knight into a children's world, and does it with the same cadence as Brown's original classic. Yes, Batman does beat on the villains, and yes that's violence, but it's done in a way that appeases my adult sensibility, without adulterating my child, who is one by the way. I love the original text, I love the idea of the parody, and I love Croatto and Richmond's execution of this book. If you love Goodnight Moon and The Caped Crusader, hopefully you'll love this book!

This really didn't do anything for me. It copies "Goodnight Moon" well with the art. There is even a little mouse to find on each page of the room and there is a lot to look at in each picture. The writing, however, is nowhere near par. "Goodnight Moon" may appear to be a simple book, easy to write but it has a gentle flow and has a powerful presence. This parody by MAD follows the same verse but it's choppy and uneven. I highly recommend "Bedtime for Batman" by Michael Dahl which is a fantastic bedtime story and has the same cozy feelings as "Goodnight Moon"

I loved this. It's a parody of both "good night, moon" and batman. It's a simple little kid's book format, featuring rhyming couplets. The story simply follows Batman having to dispatch some All-star baddies before being able to go to bed. I found it totally adorable and I imagine it will be delightful to help a tiny bat-fan engrossing themselves in the mythos, while convincing them to go the f to sleep.

I really wanted to love this book but it didn't quite do anything for me. I appreciated the busy and well detailed illustrations. The text and rhymes were lacking. Perhaps some super crazed 4th grade & up Batman fan will appreciate this much more than I did.

This was a very fun book! A nice parody of "Goodnight, Moon" with Batman! What's not to love?! I am a huge fan of anything that MAD puts out and this book did not disappoint. Anyone looking for a good laugh should give this a try!

I love old school Batman. I love parodies of Goodnight, Moon. This combines 2 of my favorites. My kids questioned why I was reading a Batman book. I didn't care as I was smiling and enjoying the book.

The rhymes and humor did not disappoint. The illustrations were chaotic and colorful. Randomly enough, my favorite was the dinosaur. LOL

This works better than you'd think. It doesn't need to say it's a parody, meaning it doesn't need to be treated as a joke. Reading it as a straightforward fun kids' book, this is better than a lot of superhero kids' books I've read.

My grandson loves Goodnight Moon. It is one of his favourite bedtime stories. He also loves silly things and lots of colourful illustrations, so I know he would love this parody of his favourite bedtime story as he gets older. This book is geared to older kids and their parents. Batman wants to go to sleep, but he needs to say goodnight and take care of all the things hanging around the batcave including all the villians we know and love to hate from the batman stories. Lots of great illustrations, yes there is some violence but no more than some of the cartoons kids watch on television. If you are a superhero fan, you will want this book from your collection.

Remember reading Goodnight, Moon when you were a young child? Or maybe someone read it to you. The rhythm of the text was comforting and predictable. You could look for each thing that was named and find it in the illustrations. The artwork itself was bright enough to hold your attention, but calming enough to fit in with the bedtime atmosphere.

And how many of you have read a Mad Magazine? A favorite issue comes to mind in which there was a musical spoof of "Star Wars: A New Hope." It featured lyrics like, "Slightly used robots and brains electronic," or "I make my luck in the galaxy." Whatever the subject matter they poking fun at in a particular issue, the tone is always the same.

Now - combine those two sources of inspiration and you have something like Goodnight Batcave, which manages to spoof that treasured bedtime story and the theme of superhero comics all in one fell swoop. Dave Croatto has created a book that shows Batman quietly getting ready for bedtime, only to have villains invade the Batcave. Now he must defeat them all before he can get a little rest. Items that are mentioned include Bat-chairs, a bat jet, a cape, and a special phone.

Children and adults can enjoy reading this humorous look at superhero life together. Soon they will probably have lines like, "Goodnight cave, goodnight knave, Goodnight crooks while they rant and rave" memorized. Tom Richmond's illustrations make the villains and our hero easily recognizable, while not treading on any DC copyright toes. The bats dangling from the roof, or moving about the cave, resemble tiny gargoyles. Touches such as the reminder "Call Gordon" which is scrawled on the notepad by the phone, or the rug with the reminder "Please remove cape" which is placed at the foot of the stairs, add an extra bit of whimsy and humor. Patented superhero moves such as punching two villains at the same time (one with each fist), or doing a back flip so that Cat Woman's whip catches Harley Quinn instead of Batman will make comic readers feel right at home.

Whether readers are just beginning a lifelong acquaintance with superheroes, or if they have been loyal fans for years, they will all appreciate the hero worship for which Mad Magazine is famous.

This review originally published in Looking For a Good Book. Rated 2.5 of 5

Only MAD® Magazine can parody a classic and get away with it.

Here MAD® takes on the children’s book classic, Goodnight Moon and mashes it up with Batman. It’s a short book (about 30 pages), just as the original Goodnight Moon is short.

The art is quite typical of what you would see in one of the MAD Magazines – it has its own unique style, and that is a style that anyone familiar with MAD Magazine would immediately recognize.

The story is … well … stupid. Just as you would expect. A tired Batman wants to go to sleep but must first punch the lights out of all his enemies. Then he can go to bed.

The rhyme scheme is not nearly as good as that in the original, Goodnight Moon. I tried reading it out loud with the same inflection and I just couldn’t do it. It’s not quite there.

This is a fun little book in just the way you would expect a MAD parody to be a fun little book. It won’t have a lasting impression, but might be the perfect gift for that geek you know but never know what to give him for a gift because he buys everything he wants on is own.

Looking for a good book? Goodnight Batcave is a Goodnight Moon parody from the makers of MAD Magazine. It’s fun for a quick read but not necessarily something you would want to read over and over again.

I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher, through Edelweiss, in exchange for an honest review.
