Fully updated with a new chapter on A.P.'s knighthood, the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Lifetime Achievement award and his new role as a TV pundit

When Tony 'A.P.' McCoy announced his retirement from racing, the shockwaves reverberated across the world of sport. With more than 4,300 winners to his name, McCoy seemed to be at the peak of his powers when he suddenly brought down the curtain on an extraordinary career.

But then A.P. McCoy has always done things his way.

In Winner: My Racing Life, AP reflects upon his unparalleled career, taking the reader from his humble beginnings in County Antrim to the emotional day at Sandown when horse racing bade a tearful farewell to arguably its greatest ever star. McCoy relates in forensic detail the process that led to his decision to retire, recalls some of his greatest rides, lifts the lid on his family life and looks ahead to a future no longer driven by the constant pursuit of victory. The result is a remarkable insight into the private and public life of a true winner.

Enjoyable autobiography about the life and (mainly) career of A.P Mcoy. Accessible for the those who don't know much about racing. Very interesting insight into his mindset and opinions over his long career.

A man amongst men and a jockey amongst jockeys.

Really was looking forward to reading Tony's autobiography. Although obviously not just a brilliant jockey, this guy really loves horses, and has become an ambassador for his sport and in the truest sense of the word has shown true horsemanship. Could listen to his stories all day long, because his honesty is truly old school and refreshing. He learned, how to race and conduct himself through honest, hard work, believing in himself, and respecting the views of trainers who also came up the hard way. Particularly loved his story of how, he falls of a horse in a novice chase, at the third fence, jumped in a jeep to go back to the weighing room, followed the antics of the three remaining horses for a full circuit, then decided hey, there's a chance of place money if I go back to where I fell off.
Remounting, he finishes the course, by himself, and Gordon Bennett wins the race, as the only finisher. It was this insight, tenacity, and in born stubbornness that made him one of a kind. Listening to him, letting off steam, at young apprentices, unwilling to cajole there horses to finish a tiring race at Cheltenham and win for their owner, much coveted place money and prestige, kinda said it all...... If push came to shove, Tony would have carried the horse on his back, over the winning line, if that's what it would have taken to win the race.
