That awkward moment you catch your boyfriend in bed with another woman and then mistakenly get arrested #chargesdropped

Annie knows life isn't always fair. Sometimes you win. Sometimes you lose. Sometimes you get mistaken for a crazed intruder when you come home early and find your boyfriend wearing nipple clamps with a coworker on the night you thought he was going to propose to you.

The important thing is to move on, and for Annie that means treating herself to a tropical vacation. But when she runs into her ex and his new woman staying at the same resort, reason is washed out to sea. Caught off guard, Annie pretends she's with Chris, a cute screenwriter she meets on the beach. With his own writing blocked, Chris is happy to help Annie craft a story to save face. Soon Annie isn't just getting over her ex, she's getting under Chris. As her fictional feelings grow increasingly real, Annie has to decide if she's ready to risk her heart on a new relationship.

"Top Pick! Almost a Bride put a smile on my face more than once. The dialogue was witty, the words were well-written and the heroine was one-of-a-kind." -- Harlequin Junkie

In just one day, Annie Anderson's life turned sideways and then completely upside down when she comes home early, finding her boyfriend in bed with another woman. If that wasn't sad enough, she ends up losing her new job on the first day. And yet it gets worse. When she goes away for a much needed excursion to a fabulous island with her friends, who shows up there but the cheating ex and his gorgeous arm candy.

As bad as Annie's day from hell was, it was related in such a way that I couldn't stop laughing. While my heart broke for her, Annie's story is so cleverly written that I also found the humor in the situation. The escapades during the vacation were even more outrageous but so vividly described I felt I was witnessing everything firsthand. Even Annie's introduction to Chris-the-writer-turned-fake-fiancé was memorable.

I'm not much for reading romantic comedy but there was something about the premise of this story that grabbed my attention and made me go for it. I am so glad I did because this is truly a diamond in the rough. It's a page turner and you'll fall in love with Annie, her motley crew of devoted friends and her fake fiancé Chris. This is a wonderful story filled with heartache, humor and wisdom, so well written that I'm now hooked to this series and the new-to-me author. I'm definitely going back and reading the first book and all that come after this one. This was outstanding.

Those books are so adorable. I love how feel good they are. And who didn´t want to have a revenge on their ex before? This was a fast and cute read. Finally a book on kindle I don´t regret buying.

A laugh-out-loud at times silly and over the top Rom Com, about finding love in the most idyllic of locations, under the most ridiculous of circumstances. It wasn’t all light and fluffy though, there were some very deep and tender moments that the author touched on with subtlety and respect.

Annie Anne and Chris/Boyden were so good together, even though both were “playing” along with the fake relationship, there were real feelings and chemistry from that initial meeting. However, we all know that playing with real feelings in a fake relationship inevitably means that someone will get their feelings hurt.

“It’s ironic, but my fake relationship with you has probably been the best relationship I’ve ever been in. You’re the best boyfriend I’ve ever had and you aren’t even real.”

The island setting of Mauritius played a key role in the story, and it was almost like an additional character. The descriptions of locations and places visited were so vivid that I actually felt like I was right there alongside Annie and co.

I hadn’t previously read the first book in the series Burning Moon, but after having enjoyed Almost a Bride so much, I will definitely be going back and reading it. -Tamara, 4 Stars

Annie is Lilly's cousin from part one of the series. It does mention some parts that would spoil story one if you would want to read them all in the order of the series.

Annie thinks finds her boyfriend with someone else in bed when she thought he would be asking her to marry him. Worse still the ex and new bit on the side are on her holiday.

Annie meets Chris a screenwriter with no idea what to write in his script until he meets Annie. He and Annie start a fake relationship against the ex. However the fake soon turns into something more. The whole story is full of can we pretend?

I liked the ending with there finally being a film sort of based on the two characters but not at the same time.

On to Jane's story next

Jo Watson - Herz auf Anfang
eBook - 401 Seiten

Loved this book.
It was quite strange reading it having just returned from our wedding in a gazebo on the beach in St Lucia. The description of their trip (ok, heading in the opposite direction), their resort was so similar to ours. The cocktails, the beach, the same flowers, right down to the red velvet wedding cake! Kinda wish I'd read it before we went, or while we were there, but it's been lovely to reminisce.
Probably will read it again, and that doesn't happen very often in my world.
Definitely going to read more Jo Watson 😁

**My thanks to NetGalley and Forever (Grand Central Publishing) for providing me with a free copy for an honest review**

This is a new author to me and i am really glad that i gave her a chance. Although this book is part of a series you do not need to read the first one to enjoy this one.

This is a rom com that will certainly have you laughing out loud. I really enjoyed this book and was so happy that Annie was able to have her happy ever after after the shit storm that had been her life for the last year or so.

So much happened and i really just could not help myself from turning page after page and devouring the book, and as night approached i just continued to read. Sometimes a book just grabs you and i just really found myself wanting to know what happened next.

I can't wait to start the next book in the series by her and will certainly be reading the first book in the series too.

Annie walks in on her boyfriend in a compromising position with his co-worker. The outcome of the argument costs Annie her new job and place to stay. Then her friend Lilly decides that a holiday in Mauritius would be just the thing, until her ex arrives on the scene. She needs a stand-in boyfriend and the man she met at the pool the previous day, Chris, volunteers. The plot is fairly predictable, but the comedy, lovely setting and authentic characters make for a nice, light romantic read.

Original Review @ Naomi’s Reading Palace

4.5 Stars

This was the first book I've read by Jo Watson, and I was surprised as to how much I enjoyed it. Set in South Africa (in the beginning), it was heartbreaking to watch Annie struggle to begin with, but some of the situations she managed to get herself into were amusing! I also enjoy stories that have a fake relationship in them, so it was no surprise that I would like this one!

Annie's life turned upside down from the opening chapters. She walked in on her cheating boyfriend, lost her job and was homeless in a matter of hours. With the help of her close friend Jane, she was able to find some sort of stability. When her friend Lilly suggested an all expenses paid trip to Mauritius, she was hesitant at first, but decided it was time to change her life. Her first meeting with Chris was a little rocky, but after a while they realised how much they liked being with each other. When Annie's ex turned up, Annie somehow found herself in a fake relationship that soon escalated out of control.

I enjoyed this book right from the beginning, I actually devoured it within a day. I laughed at some of the situations that Annie found herself in, swooned as I watched the connection between Chris and Annie grow, and felt her loss as her heart broke. She had a strong group of friends that supported her through her loss and her crazy plan of revenge. What I loved most was how Chris and Annie's feelings grew throughout the story, considering that Chris didn't believe in love and that neither of them were looking for a relationship. Despite the short amount of time they've known one another, they were cute together and found it easy to open up to one another.

Even though this was the second book in the series, it can easily be read as a standalone. The first book was Lilly's and the next book will be Jane's, who was Annie's best friend. For my first Jo Watson book, I enjoyed the way she pulled me into the story and developed characters that I loved, and a couple that I despised. It touched on a serious topic that was handled well, but overall it was a fun, cute read, and I'm looking forward to more from this world.

Hilarious from start to finish, In a book that feels like it could be on the big screen as a great rom-com in its own right. Well it does feature a sexy man who is like the hero of your average rom-coms and the whole book just had the feel to it. I would love to see this made into a film.

The prologue really sets the scene for the pacing and humour of this story, and had me grinning from ear to ear, as I had my first feel for Annie’s character.

Of course what was attracting me to the book besides the beautiful cover is the knowledge that it was predominately set in Mauritius, given I’m a huge fan of travel, and enjoyed my holiday there many years ago.

What I wasn’t expecting was just how much I was going to enjoy this book as much as I did. For after a disastrous break up with her ex (who she thought was going to propose to her), Annie and her friends head off on holiday to Mauritius for a girls holiday.

Only Annie ends up away for the first few days by herself, bumps into her ex and his new woman, and American Chris offers to become Annie’s fake Australian boyfriend Boyden! Unfortunately the ex is so determined that Annie is faking with Boyden, and determine to prove it there is a huge amount of competition between the men, and in fact the two couples, with highly amusing outcomes.

Chris was by far my favourite character from his attempts at Aussie slang, to his job as a rom-com writer, to the clear chemistry there is between Annie and Chris, even as friends to start you can tell they are really in tune with each other.

It is an engaging story that was fun and quick to read, and is a perfect beach read, where you just want to escape for a while into a good book. Having read all 3 of Jo Watson’s Destination Love books, I can safely say this is my favourite of them all.

Thank you to Bookbridgr for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

Received an ARC copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

What do you do when your almost fiancée is found (by you) with nipple clamps while getting it on with someone else, you almost get arrested and then lose the job of a life time? You wallow in self-pity and misery until your friends suggest you go on vacation. Then what do you do when you go on vacation and your ex is there with his new fiancée? You make up a fake relationship with a super sexy and sweet screen writer of course!

Let me tell you... I read this book in one sitting. It was that good! It is the first book I've read by Jo Watson and she is a damn funny and witty author. I couldn't get enough of this book. I cried, fell in love, had my heart broken and laughed out loud, and fell in love some more. If you're looking for a book that will make you fall in love with its characters and then have them tear your heart into teeny tiny little pieces then this is the book for you. It's the perfect book to read on the beach, it's the perfect book to read on your commute, it's a great book that will help you escape reality. If you're looking for a fun read I suggest you go and buy it NOW. Well played Jo Watson, well played.

Funny moments but....

I have read other books by this Author and found the characters likeable and had laugh out loud moments but this one was a struggle to read.
Just found Annie Anne weak and her ex was a stalking pervert and totally unrealistic how she was reacting to him and his partner. Found the way they interacted lame and irritating which overoad any 'funny' moments unfortunately

Meine Meinung:

This book could have been a miss for me based on the unlikable Double T's (Trev and Tess.) That's Trevv with 2 VV's!! I don't think I've ever hated an antagonist as much as I hated these two. They were horrible, down to the fact that "Trevv" bordered on creepy, stalker, "I-want-to-make-a-skin-suit-out-of-you-while-you-aren't-looking" type of guy. So many times in this book I wanted to yell "Anne, grow a spine, you weak nit!!" Trevv sleeps with a partner in his firm while Anne and him are dating and she pulls the Ellen Pompeo, Grey's Anatomy "Be with me, Date me, Love me" card. I would have taken the knife that she carried up those stairs while Nippleclamp Trevv and Rodeo Tess were getting it on and chopped it off Lorena Bobbett style...Now, maybe that's just me but let's see who's whining now!!! To all the women out there who have ever wanted to beat down a skinny, perfect-haired, botox-induced broad because she stole your man - DON"T READ THIS BOOK! You have been warned. You will throw your kindle in the trash after running it through the food processor. I almost did this 1o times and I've never been cheated on. So if you have....read this in a tiny room with no hacksaws, food processors, paper shredders, sharp objects or fire....yes you read that right. All through this book I kept asking myself "Why doesn't she kick Creepy Trevv in the nuts?" Or better yet - rip off those babymakers and make the world a safer place? Are some women like that? If you are and you're out there - there's help for you!!! Just don't read this...skip to the end of the book LOL.

A little about the book: Anne goes on Holiday and meets Chris who's a writer and after telling an astronomical lie that he's her "pretend boyfriend" to keep Creepy Trevv from perving on them through the trees of their penthouse suite...hilarity and fun ensues. There's a lot of angst and Anne not feeling good enough about herself because of Pervy Trevv and Botox Tess however Chris is a gem of a guy so he makes up for it. Her friends are one in a million and it's worth it to check out the book for all of them. I could have really done without the Twinsies (Trevv and Tess) but then the book wouldn't have been the same because I was laughing out loud at some places over the fact that Trevv broke in their room to "catch" them not sleeping in the same bedroom. He really was a douche. Or when Chris delivers them the drink Slippery Nipples because...Nippleclamp LOL!! The fake wedding they have will have you pumping your fist in the air and shouting Breakfast Club style. After a mistake and misunderstanding, a lot of growing on both their parts they find their happy ending. True love prevails for Chris who doesn't believe it exists but it's a long road.

Final thoughts: This author was new to me, I had no preconceived notions going in so it could have been a total miss but I'm glad it wasn't. Buy this book but stay away from anything remotely electrical, fire related or power-related while reading. You might keep looking at the man your with like he's a little bug after reading the parts with Creepy Trevv....just a forewarning. Enjoy because Jo Watson did an awesome job!

I was given a copy of this ARC from the publisher on Netgalley for a honest review. All of the above comments are my express opinions and no one else's.

3.5 stars- Cute Romantic Comedy

Almost a Bride played out much like a romantic comedy movie, an ode to the hero’s occupation as a screenwriter. It was a cute standalone story with an upbeat vibe. The writing was detailed with a steady pace and flowing dialogue. The setting in the second book of the Destination Love series made this a bit more unique. The main character- Annie- is originally from South Africa. Therefore, a good portion of the book takes place in that location. After a troubling break-up, Annie and her friends plan a girls’ vacation to an island resort where the bulk of the story is set. The descriptive writing made this aspect wonderful in many ways. The location came alive with sights, scents, and sounds vividly described. However, the descriptions occasionally slowed the pace of the story. These moments didn’t last long, but did keep me from getting swept away.

The plotline is fun, despite it being ripe with cliché. Perhaps the plot devices and humor would strike me as less original if the author hadn’t acknowledged the silliness of the situations through the dialogue and Annie’s thoughts. As it was, Chris’s and Annie’s humor and responses to the bizarre occurrences made it truly enjoyable. While the story did stray a little too far into the far-fetched territory for me to find humorous at times, it never discouraged me from reading. The characters themselves were also interesting. Although I didn’t love her at first, Annie showed a lot of growth which seems rare in contemporary romance these days. I liked reading about her character’s progression, and was rooting for her to find her HEA by the end. I thought Chris had a good amount of depth too, and appreciated that the ending gave him a chance to develop more as a character. I wish we saw them together as a couple longer, but I understood why the author chose not to focus on that part of their relationship. Overall, I enjoyed watching their personal lives and relationship blossom. I think this is a nice read for fans of lighter romances who also want their characters to have significant transformation throughout the story.

I received this as a Goodreads giveaway.

Was only at 41% yesterday but I HAD to know what was going to happen.

The book begins with Anne having the worst day ever - from waking up late, forgetting the shoes for a photo shoot, only to come home during her lunch break to get them and find her boyfriend having sex with his assistant, and then getting arrested because of a mix up when the police arrived (Anne thought that she and Trevv were being robbed so she called the police and grabbed the closest weapon she could find...a knife from the kitchen. She is so shocked at the scene before her she forgets that she is holding the knife - Trevv and his assistant, Tess, think she is going to hurt them with it when the police barge into the bedroom.) From there, Anne must begin her life again - she is fired from her job, her dreams of marrying Trevv are over. With the help of her friends, she finds the strength she needs to carry on and start again.

Then she and her friends plan an island holiday...where is left alone for several days because her friends become ill. Anne meets Chris...And Chris changes her world but not before Anne changes his cynical "I don't believe in love" world. What transpires between is a great rom-com.

Yes, the story line is predictable and will make a great summer read. BUT - I love Jo Watson's writing. The characters are well developed, I could totally see the things happening that she wrote about, the banter was adorable and funny, and I just wanted Anne to be happy - hopeless romantic. This is my first Jo Watson book so now I have to hunt down Destination Love #1 and #3!

This was such a wonderful, heartbreaking story! It was full of heartbreak, romance, fun and so much more. It kept me gripped from the beginning and I loved every second of it. I didn't put it down once as I just needed to know what was going to happen.

I also now want to go on a beach holiday.

In this book we follow Annie. She is having the worst time. She walked in on her boyfriend, now ex-boyfriend, sleeping with his colleague and not only that, she got arrested.

Her and her friends decide to go on a holiday. They all deserve it and maybe a hot beach holiday is what Annie needs.

Until her ex and his new girlfriend show up.

Then we meet Chris. He is working on a romantic screenplay when he meets Annie. With quick thinking he pretends to be her boyfriend, that she made up, so she can rub it in their faces. But, pretending sometimes can lead to the real thing.

With them spending loads of time together and having loads of fun, can Annie open her heart up and let Chris in? Or is Chris hiding something from her that will tear them apart?

I really enjoyed this book as it had me laughing and cringing. I would do the exact same thing if I was in her shoes and this book is so much more then her moving on, it's about her growing as a person. To realise who she is and what she wants from life and I really enjoyed that and the friendship she has with her friends.

I cannot wait to read more from Jo as this book was just fantastic!

A ROM com that debuts.with entertaining racous CIA cheating scenario that was as devastating as it was amusing! This set the tone for the duality of the entire tale so craftily penned that there was an inordinately pleasing balance of entertainment vs angst..
The h takes a.vacation to escape the cheating couple whose aim appears to take joy in her misery and to goad her at every step with their apparent joy! Much to her dismay, they appear at her vacation destination not only for a romantic getaway but they plan for marriage!
Fortunately she met someone who is more than willing to take measures to offset her doom at their sleezy cheating hands! The attractive man who agrees to play her fake boyfriend eagerly conspires to her benefit, concurrently uplifting her at every turn while unfortunately withholding a relationship altering secret!
Secret unbeknownst to her, they stage a duel.wedding with her nemesis, that swiftly turned into the real thing ! Discovery of what he had withheld crushed her...and me.😂.shortly after I was brought to tears by written proclamation of his love.
Dude is in it for the long haul and following a period of separation where h undergoes therapy and becomes the best version of herself, he will have a huge splendorous reveal of love that will reunite them to a long awaited union and HEA.
So an amusing enjoyable and.emotional read offering a compelling twist on a infidelity to new love saga!

I wish I could give this book 10 stars! It was so amazing! I don't remember the last time I laughed so much while reading a book! Annie and Chris have an amazing story and their interactions are hilarious! The story line kept me hooked the entire time. I kept reading and as I got closer to the end, I wanted to find out what happened, but I didn't want to be finished reading their story. I am going to read the other books in the series and look into other works by the author. I loved her writing style! I highly recommend this book, even if you haven't read the first in the series (I hadn't). Although the characters from the first book of the series are in it, you don't need to know their backstory for this book to make sense. Go get the book!!

I received this book for free through Goodreads Giveaways.
