Fate's Cry was such an amazing story that kept me on the edge of my seat with suspense and swooning along with all the romance. This story has a little of everything and Kelsey and Damien are very powerful characters. Jalpa has done it again. This is one author that I will read anything she writes without reading the blurb and know it will be amazing.

This is my first gargoyle novel. It was a fun read. Although I have to admit the modus operandi of the serial killer was hard to stomach. At first I didn’t like the main character because she was so selfish. But she was humbled by the tragic death of her family and grew into a caring person. The romance thread was enjoyable. (I’ll never look at a gargoyle the same way. LOL) And the story really picked up steam as it went along.

Despite figuring out who the serial killer was early on, and some awkward word choices and phrases, I liked the book.

I did receive Fate's Cry as an Free ARC book, in exchange for an honest review.

The book starts off with Kelsey Taylor when she is a teenager. She is doing drugs, partying, not being with her family, just being a typical teenager.

However, life takes a turn for the worse.

Later in life Kelsey moves to the big city. She is always at the roof top after work, talking to the gargoyles who are affixed to the top of the roof.

Kelsey is walking home really late at night around 2am, when she trips and falls, and someone is there to catch her. She wonders who he is and why is he out this late also.

Damien walks her home, making sure she gets home safely as she injured her ankle and needs help. Kelsey wonders who this man is who helps her.

We also have a murdered out in the streets who is trying to destroy lives. Kelsey is trying to figure out who is murdering people. But, Damien doesn't want her out on the street's alone.

The story evolves into a search for a killer, friendship and love.

I was lucky to have received an ARC copy of this amazing book. This story had me on the edge of my seat from page one to the very last. The characters are believable and likeable. I have to say Shane and Sammy are my favorites. They're supporting characters that make a big impact along the way. The suspense was intense and the thrills were brilliant. Can't recommend this book enough.

What a great paranormal romance! I'm a huge fan of supernatural creatures, fantasy, and shifter stories so this was a win for me. I've only read a couple of books where gargoyles are the main focus and was thrilled with this novel. There's plenty of nail biting action, a sweet and slow building romance, and the suspense was perfectly balanced with drama, action, and the relationship between the main characters.

Damian is my kind of hero - handsome, sweet, protective, charming, and a dark alpha male who knows what he wants. That just happens to be Kelsey. She's a great heroine - strong and courageous, fighting for what she wants, and she's not afraid to move on from her traumatic past. I loved that she had her own life and mind and made her choices independent of Damian. The chemistry between the two was HOT. I liked the fast pace that kept me wanting to read late into the night.

A riveting and compelling tale that keeps you guessing up until the end. Wonderful characters and flawless writing kept me hooked from start to finish. Highly recommended!

**This book was provided by the author/publisher to Nerd Girl in exchange for an honest review**

This book is the first I have read by this author and I can honestly say... It will NOT be my last.

In this story we follow main character Kelsey Taylor. A typical rebellious teenager. She likes doing the normal bad teenage activities. Drugs, partying and running around with her friends. She has lived somewhat of a tragic life and has her own struggles and inner demons to deal with.

After a move to the big city she encounters a mysterious man on a walk home. A man who "saves" her if you will, in the moment.

Damien is a dark, brooding and mysterious piece of man candy! His character is so charmingly mysterious, but in a good way.

After a bad decision gone horribly wrong Kelsey decided to turn her life around and joins the NYPD. With so much murder and mayhem on the streets on NY she can help. Or can she?

After disappearing for a few years, Damien suddenly pops back up into Kelsey's life. Right in the middle of a string of murders. Is it fate? Is it fishy? Could he be the killer or there to save her?

With a serial killer on the loose and her partner fallen victim to him, she is dead set on bringing the killer to justice. She will protect her fallen friends family at any cost. That is until she herself gets kidnapped by the killer. Will she fall victim to this crazy lunatic? Will her mysterious Damien swoop in to save her? I guess you will just have to read to find out lol

I absolutely loved this book. The story was executed tremendously! The characters are beautifully written. The suspense, mystery, romance and horror in this book, is one very stimulating and exhilarating roller coaster ride. One you certainly won't want to end. I love how the author pulls you into the story and keeps you there. You feel as if you are playing a movie out in your head as you read each page. The detail and imagery is very captivating. I promise you it's a page turner.

If you have read this book then you know what I am talking about. If you haven't then I highly recommend you do!! Bravo!! I give you 5 stars!

I received this book for honest review. I have always been a big lover for all kind of paranormal book and it is always plus that it has romance in it too. After reading so many books with this genre it seemed I had read everything, but I was happily surprised when I started to read Fate’s Cry.

It was different than other books since the very beginning, I found myself first hating the heroine how she was portrayed, but when I read more I could see how she started to change for the better. The main plot was really interesting, I started to make my own conclusions of what would happen next. There were some really dark themes in there too, but nothing wasn’t really too graphic and I think there were important to the plot, and not like some other stories use dark themes in their stories for shock value. I was glad when reading this to see how there wasn’t just one easy road for everything and it really made me think what would happen next, who the villain would be in the end, though I must admit I guessed who it was since I was read just 30% from the story. Side characters were really interesting too, and I am glad to hear that there will be sequel for this book series. I can’t wait to read more!

I can happily say I will give this story honest Five out of Five cupcakes!

Fate's Cry by Jalpa Wiliby is a continuation of one of her short stories from her Loving You Hurts So Good anthology. I was glad to see she finished this story. It read fine as a short story and had a hard ending (meaning, you don't have to read a full novel to understand how it ends), but I always felt there would be more to Kelsey and Damien. Jalpa has written paranormal before, but this is different than her Chaysing series. I don't want to give too much away, but she does a fine job of fleshing out her characters and keeping suspense high. At the end of the book, she reveals that there will be another in this series of books, but again, this novel can easily be read as a standalone. I'm glad she wrote more, and I'm interested to see how the next novel turns out!

This was different than any story I have read. It was inttiguing and well worth the time reading. I plan to go back and re-read this book in the future and will definitely be looking for more wonderful books from this author.

I love it. The characters were strongly written and you can tell as you read. The story flowed nicely.

This is one of those books that I agreed to read, with a bit of reluctance, because I really like the author, but I really am not a fan of paranormal. I may have to change my mind about the genre after this and a couple of other PNR's I have read for much the same reasons. But Fate's Cry really captured me from pretty much the first page and did not let me go. To the extent I read it in one sitting because I simply couldn't take the suspense.

Kelsey is an amazing heroine. Though the prologue shows her as an extremely obnoxious teenage girl (I have one of those at home - I am convinced that all teenage girls are a bit obnoxious and self centered. Puberty just turns them upside down and inside out and the obnoxiousness and narcissism are just byproducts of trying to navigate these new waters without drowning in them.) The price Kelsey had to pay for a youthful transgression was just too high. My heart immediately hurt fot the guilt she carried with her, regardless of whether or not she deserved any of it. There was no way anyone could take those feelings away from her. It honestly still makes me bite my tongue a bit more often than I did before reading it when my teens are saying terrible things I know they don't mean - you just never know when you might lose the chance to apologize for something you never meant to say or do in the first place.

5 years after the prologue, we start the story with the shell of Kelsey. She has changed the lifestyle that left her so wracked with guilt, and even gone to college, earned her associates, and moved to management level in her job at a museum. But her social life mostly consists of sneaking back in at night to spend time on the roof with the stone gargoyles her only company as she relives that pivotal night over and over. Only responsibility for her lovely cat, Tom, keeps her going. When she takes a fall returning home from one of these late night sojourns, she realizes just how deeply her self destructive streak runs within her. Then the mysterious Damien comes to her rescue.

Damien. It is so hard to get a real understanding of him. Mysterious really only taps the surface of his behavior. But he beccomes her friend, and an attraction builds between them, despite the fact that Tom seems to strongly dislike him. Then, as the attraction sweepes them both up, Damien pulls away and, frankly freaks out. His nightly visits abruptly end, at the hardest time of the year for Kelsey. After an unexplainable intervention to her plans on the 5th anniversary, Halloween, she has an epiphany and decides to change the way she has been living for the last half decade.

After unsuccessfully trying to find Damien, she decides to join the police force, mostly so she can expand her search. The next section of the book jumps us ahead 4 years, and she has formed a strong bond with her partner, Sammy, and finds a surrogate family in his wife and daughter. She is casually dating, and has a good rapport with her captain. She has come a long way since we last were with her, and her darkest point. After a rough case, her captain invites her out for drinks to get to know her better, as well as celebrate, she has a surprisingly good time. As she is leaving the bar, Damien is walking in.

And thus begins the real heart of the story, including mosters, a serial killer stalking her, whose identity is unbelievable when it all shakes out, and getting into Damien's heart and secrets. I have always been a sucker for a good thriller, and this has all of those elements, on top of the romance and paranormal aspects of the story. It is one of those books that can't easily be put into one genre box, but it is undeniably endearing. Like I said, I couldn't put it down and read it in one sitting, well more than a month ago, (I was given a copy in exchange for an honest review, but also purchased a copy because I needed it in my library as I am sure it is a tale I will revisit) and it still haunts the corners of my mind, more than a couple dozen books later.

Intended for adult audiences only, but no hesitations at all in awarding it 5 stars. Highly recommended for fans of thrillers, romance, and a must read for fans of paranormal.

The guilt ate her up all these years. Maybe if she were home that night, she could have saved them. Ryan and Tori were so young…too young. They were good kids, always helping their mom. They did what Kelsey didn’t do. Where Kelsey had failed, they had shined. Now, standing on the ledge, she shuddered, not sure if it was from the chill of the night or the horrific memories. She stared down below, the ground a few hundred feet away. Instead of being afraid, a sense of peace encased her. It would be so easy to end it now. All of the pain would go away, and maybe she could find her family again.

The loss of a loved one…or loved ones, can mentally and physically destroy someone from the inside out. The loss of loved ones can make someone become a monster as well. Williby takes her readers through a whole new emotional rollercoaster with this story. Fate’s Cry is a captivating tale about two unlikely individuals who fall in love over a long period of time.

Kelsey has lost her family. She has lost everyone that she has ever allowed into her heart and now…she has found something that has made her live again. She has found her true calling, the police department. Upon meeting a tall, dark and mysteriously attractive man on one of the most desperate times in her adult life, her sadness slowly dissipates when they are together. At first, feeling uncomfortable with knowing so little about this man, she knows in her heart that he is her protector. Going by the name of Damien, this is one of the only things that she knows about him, but she can’t escape the strong pull between them. After getting too close one night, the sexual tension almost unbearable, Damien leaves her in a confused haze…leaving Kelsey to fall back into her depression. During that time, Kelsey begins to learn how to forget about Damien, especially by focusing on catching a new killer in town. When this killer sets his sights on her, she knows that she can’t slip up—not even once…then Damien comes back after four painfully long years. Will Damien be able to protect her? Kelsey knows that Damien has his secrets, but can she trust him to be her protector against this killer?

Williby has wonderful character development with this novel…and an unexpected paranormal twist. Her characters have strong emotional backgrounds and the plot, while slightly predictable—is still very much creative and entertaining. This story begins slowly, but then picks up drastically and makes it easy to finish. The grammatical and spelling content are both fine, it won’t prevent the reader from enjoyment. If you are a reader of supernatural or paranormal suspense, this may be perfect for you.

It's the first time I've read this author, and I can say I'll be reading more!! She really makes you feel a wide range of emotions when reading...I went from laughing to crying in the space of couple of pages. Her characters were so relatable.
Kelsey Taylor is a hot mess!! She partied hard and was mixed up with chasing her next high. Then the unthinkable happens... Her apartment burned down with her family in it. She closes herself off from everybody, she only has one really close friend and a cat named Tom.
On her way home from work one evening she slipped and falls on the ice breaking her wrist and spraining her ankle. She's just about to give up when a stranger comes out of the darkness. He's dark, brooding and mysterious. He eventually gives her his name, Damien, no last name. On the anniversary of her family deaths Kelsey climbs to the roof of the building she works in and jumps. She lives and turned her life around.
Damien is gone from are life for 4 years, and then shows up one night at a bar and just happens to bump into her. By then she has joined the NYPD. She's moved into a new apartment with her cat, Tom, and he still gets highly upset when she lets Damien come in.
There is a serial killer running wild on the streets of New York. Kelsey's partner, Sammy, gets caught in the crossfire and dies. She is determined to protect his wife and daughter at all costs. Will Damien get there in time to save Kelsey when she is captured by the serial killer?

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of this book and I absolutely LOVED it. I had no idea from the short version of the book (it's in Loving You Hurts So Good collection of short stories) that the story could get even better! So, if you've read that collection of Jalpa Williby's, this is Kelsey and Damien's story expanded into a full-fledged book!

Kelsey is the main character and she hasn't had an easy life. Quite a tragic one, actually. In the first part of the story we get a feel for what she has went through and see her struggles. She's not a perfect character, by any means, and I think that makes her seem so real. I felt really pulled into her story.

When Damien comes along, the romance begins, and things get intense! He has secrets, but he sounds so incredibly hot and mysterious, you can't help but love him. He is quite an interesting character and I found myself wanting to know more and more about him.

The author did a great job keeping the reader intrigued. There are a couple snippets from another POV that will have you sitting on the edge of your seat! The ending is also very action-packed and I was surprised with the outcome.

All in all, this book is awesome. I love a book that pulls from many genres, and this one does. I also think it sends a great message to love yourself and others just the way they are.

Kelsey Taylor has never had it easy, losing her dad at a very going age and then her mother being diagnosed with a terrible illness. She feels she has had enough and goes out with her friends only to return home to devastation.
After losing everything she leads a lonely life not letting anyone get close to her and often finding herself alone on the roof of the museum talking to a gargoyle.
One night on her way home she slips and badly hurts herself only to be saved by a gorgeous mysterious man who helps her home, checks on her for a few nights and then disappears without a trace. So she joins the police force to try to find him, whilst also tracking a serial killer who gets a little to close for comfort.
Will she ever see him again or will she just carry on with life and forget about him?
I loved this book from start to finish. The way it is written, the murder and mystery surrounding Damien and Kelsey. Their love and the way that the relationship develops was frustrating at times and I just wanted them to choose, yes or no!
I read the book in two days as I cups not put it down. I cannot wait to read book two.

Amazing book! Loved it! From the start up to the last, I was hooked on this book! On the first few chapters...I was like, meh..an ok read but as the story goes, I was WOWed! The story and the characters are amazing. I love how Ms. Jalpa made this book interesting, full of surprises and intense. The characters, Damien and Kelsey are great. At first, I was not a fan of Kelsey. Grr. Actually, I hated her, but as the story goes, I started to like her - love her even. She's an unusual character for me, a bit rebellious, sassy and strong. Damien, the mysterious man who only showed up at night. For me, he's charming and full of mystery. The story, it's amazing. I love how the author wrote it and brought the characters to life. Over all, this book rocks! Loved it! One of the favorite books I've read this year!

Kelsey has lived a tough life, haunted by loss and regret. She has lost everyone she was ever close to. These fears prey on her mind each time she chooses to open herself up to someone. Then came the night she met Damien, he stirred in her feelings she never dreamed of. But there is danger lurking, Damien is secretive, revealing little of his past, and to make matters worse there's a serial killer roaming the streets, and it seems their eyes are now trained on her.

Fate's Cry is a well-written urban fantasy romance with enjoyable characters who grow and develop as the plot progresses. It is the kind of story easy to lose yourself in and hard to put down. It was a refreshing read for a book in the genre, and clearly much thought went into the plot, lore, and characters.

This is not my usual Genre and this is the first time I am reading this author.
The story line kept me on my toes. Kelsey has many layers and you have to understand her to figure it out. She just wants to keep everyone safe, however there is a serial killer taking everyone she loves away from her. There is also a hot stranger involved with a huge secret.I liked that Kelsey was a strong person but her eagerness to solve everything was a little too much.
If you are looking for a book that has a little bit of everything this is it.

Fate's Cry by Jalpa Williby was an excellent read. At first I wasn't to sure what to expect. As I read I just could not put the book down. With Damien and Kelsey as the main characters they both were strong characters with much love for one another. It had an unusual storyline which is what kept my interests. I don't want to give away the plot, but if you like unusual love stories you will really enjoy this. Jalpa did a FANTASTIC job with this book and I look forward to the next book in the series.

I agreed to read this book in exchange for an honest review. I really enjoyed this story and am a fan of the PNR genre. This story is a bit different from the others of the genre which is refreshing. Kelsey spent most of her time with a stone gargoyle because her past wrecked her. As the story progresses, Kelsey finds love in the most unusual place and is forced to make choices that she finds too difficult to make.
I would read another story from this author just because I enjoyed this story so much, thank you for the chance to get to know your work.

A STORY OF REDEMPTION
The first few pages had me hooked, they really drew you into the story. We next meet Kelsey after she gets her life together, but is still suffering from her earlier decisions and can’t trust anyone. Enter the paranormal aspect and – this is a personal thing – I was disappointed. Without giving anything away it is a twist on the usual ‘out of world’ characters and for a long time I was kept guessing as to who to trust and who was the real villain. There is an unexpected twist at the end which brought back a touch of realism.

Jalpa’s stories never fail to keep you wanting more, and she sealed the deal once again with Fate’s Cry. I truly enjoyed this story and am anxious to read the next ones.

Kelsey, as a young girl, had to grow up fast, but it was not without consequences. Her life was with sorrows and lonely, yet straightforward until reality became unreal. The hints were in the chapters, and it was fun to see when your thoughts were in sync with the author, but it was even more fun to discover how the twists became creative and adventurous fun.

Jalpa Williby always gets you to love the characters. It has been true in every book of hers that I have read, which makes the story rich and vibrant.

I would recommend this and all her books for a fun and memorable story that you will want more of. I give this book 5 out of 5 stars.

It takes losing her whole family for Kelsey to turn things around. Five years later, she is still haunted by the memories of what she lost. Then comes a chance meeting with a stranger - her own personal hero. There is an unusual aura that surrounds this man, even making her cat Tom hiss.

Things turn for the worse when Kelsey's partner and fellow officer is killed in the line of duty. What happens next is the perfect blend of murder, mystery, intrigue and love!

Warning: Contains attempted suicide, nudity and sex.
