Rate this book
Before he was one of the most powerful gangsters in the country, Marion Holloway was just another young, street smart hustler with dreams of rising to the top. In a time where the most lucrative business in New York City was the drug game, a world where the only way to gain power was to take it, Marion didn’t mind using violence to achieve his ultimate goal. But the rules rapidly change when he meets a beautiful young lady named Emma and finds himself in the middle of a power struggle between the Italian mob and the Black syndicate. With everything he ever wanted within his reach and the war on the streets hanging in the balance, Marion will have some hard decisions to make, decisions that will determine his destiny. Witness the beginning of Keys to the Kingdom.

It was good getting some background on Marion and what came about to get him where he was. Years can truly change a person and based on all Marion had seen while away I wasn't shocked at how he handled things. Some people underestimated him and I didn't like Jimmy at all. He violated in more ways than one and added fuel to a fire he wasn't ready for. Emma was alright but beyond spoiled. The one thing I appreciated the most about her was her showing loyalty to Marion when she could've easily turned a blind eye to what was going on. The plan went on without a hitch but with those lurking in the shadows things will quickly change.

Marion, a Vietnam War veteran stumbles upon Emma and her father Charles, while out shopping one day. They are immediately smitten with one another, but have to overcome a few obstacles.

My first read by @tymarshall_era, this prequel to "Keys to the Kingdom" is a cross between American Gangster and The Godfather. I truly enjoyed this 💎💎💎💎💎 page turner, and look forward to many much more.

Couldn't get this one off my mind day or nite. Was on edge with every scene. So mind boggling how Marion and Emma started out. This really explains a few of things that have already happened and opens your mind up to others. Looking forward to a part 2 to the prequel. Getting ready to jump in to Part 2 of the trilogy. Clearly a MUST READ!!!!

Marion was a cold, calculated gangsta!

This was a nice little prequel, now I’m ready to hop into the actual series. I can’t wait to read what’s next for Marion and Emma .

Greatness

This book kept me hooked from page one. The plot was brilliant with all of the twists and turns. I like how this book showed each character's strength and weaknesses. Marion started off at the bottom but his plans to rule the drug world were brilliant. Emma is likeable as a young woman in this book. Hats off to you Ty Marshall. You know how to end a book, making us want more.

Great insight!

Make sure you read "Keys To The Kingdom" first. You'll get a better understanding of all the characters if u read this second. Especially Emma. I could not stand her in kttk but in reading this I see how she transitioned from sweet, naive, innocent Emma Matthews to the heartless, manipulative, conniving bitch that is Emma Holloway. Damn good novella! Damn good! Ready for some move of this story.
