Erma's Attic is a heartfelt and humorous tale, filled with historical facts, folksy phrases and amusing adages of the Southern United States. When Annie, a young doctoral student living in Charleston, West Virginia, takes the advice of an elderly friend to spend a few nights at a farmhouse up Black Hollow Road, she discovers a journal in the attic. The aged journal, she soon discovers, was written by her dear friend Erma who had recently passed on over to the sweet by and by. Her friend's memories transports her on an adventure that embraces involvement in the women's suffrage movement, chatting with Mary "Mother" Jones, and standing vigil outside of collapsed coal mines in the first half of the 20th century. Tales from the past, and from the present when the journal is discovered, are woven together to ultimately offer the readers a compelling picture of the life in the West Virginia Appalachians. Erma's Attic: Angels of the Appalachians Book Two renews the stories of Annie, Will, Erma, Ida, and of course, Hank. If you enjoyed Angels of the Appalachians come explore this account of a friendship that spans across decades. I Did Not Want This Story To End!!!
After being totally engulfed in the “Angels of Appalachia” this morning. To thee point that I found it hard to put this book down, just to refill my coffee cup.
I could not get enough of the intertwine life story of Erma and the other lively characters in this novel.
I was quite delighted to have found “Erma’s Attic: Angels of the Appalachians Book 2” ~ I continued the journey into the lives of the ones that I had met in the first novel.
A little about myself: I’ve only started “Enjoying” reading a few yrs. ago {56yrs. old then <(‘ & I’m easily distracted}.
Yet Deanna Edens, has given me the insatiable desire to be engulfed in “Erma’s Attic: Angel of the Appalachian s Book 2”.
As well as to continue my journey to wherever Deann
Edens novels take me ~ Next time... I’ll have a thermos of coffee beside me!!!
I Highly Recommend this Novel as well as a thermos of something to drink bcuz you will not want to stop reading and remain engulfed in whatever your heart and mind is intertwined with the page in front of you. ENJOY<(‘

An truly enjoyable sequel
Yesterday, I read ANGELS OF THE APPALACHIANS. Today I finished the sequel. I adore both wholeheartedly and hope there is a third book yet to come.
Deanna, if you ever read this review... Thank you. God brought your books to me in a dark season of life, and I feel His presence more now than I have in a while. Keep writing, sweet lady.

A wonderful read
I felt transported back in time while reading the book. I read the first one yesterday and was happy to continue with the great characters. Parts were heart breaking when the mining disasters happened in the book. Much of the book was pure joy. I loved Ida and Erma from the first book and Will and Annie in this one. Couldn't quit reading until it was finished. A true lesson in how we should treat others - a good deed whenever possible.

I have thoroughly enjoyed reading this series. The way Eden catches the lovely ethnicity of Appalachia’s word speak makes it so endearing and authentic.

Lovely book
I am from KY and no longer live there but my heart loves to hear the stories. It makes me smile as I recall memories of my wild youth. I can relate especially to Erma I find a lot of myself in her!

Return to a day when love thy neighbor was practiced.

Excellent
Although this is the second book in the Angels of the Appalachians series, it can be read as a stand alone book. The writing flows very well and the transitions between time periods are well done. Sit back and enjoy while learning a little about the early 1900s, before women could vote and before unionization.

Another great one
Second book I've read by Edens and absolutely love. Typically, in my humble opinion, sequels often are not as good as the first. Not in this case. Again, I am sucked into the lives of Will and Annie and Erma and Ida. These are characters I would love to know in real life. The bond between them all is so strong and each have their own unique interpretations of their faith and views on life. The author takes you to two different eras but intertwines them eloquently and effortlessly. The book flows well and is full of humor, history, sadness, inspiration and love. Thank you again Deanna Edens for sharing your talent with us.

Fabulous
My bags are packed and I'm ready to drive to the holler and visit with Annie!!! I fell in love with this story. With Erma and Ida, Will and Annie and if course Hank!! What wonderful life stories. I'm a country girl and have heard many of the funny sayings from my own parents! Some sayings never go out of style!! Thank you for these great stories!!

Touched my. Heart in so many ways
In reading this I could picture every person. In this book.my mother was brought up in the South and knowing the hardships with 13 children yet the love they had and community with caring and lending home and heart to others, I saw that here. Today we can all learn something of this. Beautiful.

Great book
I really enjoyed this story. I felt like I got to know the people in the book and am glad that Annie bought the farm. I wish I would have a friend like Will. One thing that really touched me was the idea that if we all thought of our blessings every day rather than our complaints, we’d all be better off.

Such fun to read
I really loved the way Erma's attic is written. I laughed allot. Each character is so interesting and likeable in their own way. Would love to read more of her books.

Goin' home
Reading Angels of the Appalachians, Books one and two has made me feel like, at the age of 71, I went home to visit. I am, now, a confirmed fan of Deanna Edens, who gave me a gift so precious!

Sweet quick read.
This book brought the history of the early 1900s to life. The coal mines disasters and the fight women went through to win the right to vote. The love between friends through out the years.

Another great story of Appalachia!
The first book had me hooked on the series. The second one (Erma's Attic) continued the story of Ida and Erma by one of Ida's students. I enjoyed the flash backs that further enlightened the lives of these two courageous ladies. These books remind me of many things that I encountered in my formative years growing up in southern Appalachia. The only thing I have to comment on is Deanna's description of the vehicles in 1908 as "putting the vehicle in PARK". Park was not included in vehicle transmissions until the late 1940's. Other than that, I thoroughly enjoyed the first two books, and look forward to more in the series.

Having taught school some 50 years ago in the hills area, the novel brought back nostalgic memories of the dialect and analogies from the area and setting. Plot surrounded Annie, a psychology doctorate student, who visits the secluded Appalachian farm of her veterinarian elderly friend Erma who passed away. Will, the 90-year-old friend of Erma's, attempts to persuade her to buy it. Allowing her to stay there to ponder this, she comes across a journal and other relics of her life in the attic. Story flips between Erma's past life and Annie's present life to provide a backstory. Sweet and clean with much humor for one's enjoyment.
