B Montgomery hates her life. She's not popular, constantly bullied, and now the whole school knows her sexual orientation and not by choice. The only person in her corner is her mother and B was fine with that...that is, until she meets her new neighbor, Madeline Fields.
Madeline Fields is everything that B is not. She's beautiful, a daredevil and doesn't care about anything but getting back to New York to become a successful actress. That is, until she meets B Montgomery.
The two women become quick friends but soon find out that time is not on their side. While Maddie moves back to New York after graduation, B needs to do something to fill the regret of basically telling Maddie to leave.
Through the years both women grow up separately only to come together yet again. Can they rebuild the connection that brought them together ten years earlier? Or did that connection ever even break?

Ok read! there is a lot to say about this book#1 especially within the first half-it moves slowly due to the amount of details provided, the back and forth POV:-the present situation of both main characters past lives. There were good topics being raise by the author but a wasted opportunity for this story to be so much better with the potential on subjects like 'high school bullying' etc...enjoyable chemistry between all the characters
Fluffy as a marshmallow, a cloud and a bunny's tail combined.
It is harmless and inexpensive. Pretty good value for money if you feel like a mindless feel good read.
A couple of comments to potentially sway your decision one way or the other:
- Technically our protagonists age 10 years or so through the story but they might as well not have as their voice and maturity level (which was 'old' for 17 but v young for 27) did not.
- Readers whose enjoyment of a work is significantly impacted by a 'JUST HAVE A CONVERSATION ALREADY!!' Factor should avoid like the plague.
- there are a few more typos than I'd expect in a professional work. Didn't bother me but might some readers.
Overall - ask me in a month's time if I've read this book and I won't be able to tell you. But it's harmless and fun and you could do much worse.
This is my first book from this author and definitely not the last given that i'm looking forward to read the second book of the series. This book is highly recommended if you enjoyed Waiting in the Wings, All the Lies Within, The Blind Side of Love, and Playing the Role of Herself, etc. Even if you're not a fan I would still recommend this, this is a feel good book. It will bring smile to your face. I also love the MCs and the supporting characters. Everything that I like is here, it's cliche.. it's sweet.. I like their chemistry, I like the pacing. There's enough drama that will keep you from getting bored although on the other hand you'll also think that their problems were easily solved but I also understand given the length of the book, I'm amazed how the author squeezed everything. It's a bit predictable and with a little of push and pull but who cares? :p The flashbacks from their teenage years.. I think I want more of Maddie and B. I wish it was longer. Maybe another 100 pages? And lastly I'm a sucker of good endings that's why I will give this a 6stars. :)
A light and enjoyable read. This book is a cross between Waiting in the Wings, And playing the role herself, and Gravity between us. All the characteristics of these books. are here in this one book. So if you enjoyed them you will enjoy this book.
Entertaining, lovable, sweet, wonderful, awesome, terrific story. Yes, a very nice story. But dismally unreal. Furthermore, the author writes on subjects that she really doesn't master.
I liked the first part of the book. It was a little unrealistic, but it was good to see how were the characters when they first met. When they got together, it started to go downhill. I think it should have finished short after that. But it didn't. The last 50 pages or so were insufferable to read. And the end was mehhh for me.
3,75/5 This was very enjoyable, I don't see a reason for what I wouldn't give this book such a high rating. There are some beautiful quates in here and Maddie is literally my next to be wife💁♀️ We fr in love with eachother, made me blush trough a phone, she's perfect 🗣I'll give her my legs
but to be honest after reading The Blind Side of Love every other book that has a (slightly) similar plot just doesn't quite cut it anymore for me. Nevertheless I enjoyed reading about B and Maddie's journey towards each other again. I just wish there was a little less miscommunication between the two of them. I liked their chemistry and the pacing of the story was good but for me it lacked the depth that TBSOL had.
I was surprised that this was a very good book. I'm skeptical with a lot of Kindle Unlimited because sometimes they are very short or not well written. Don't get me wrong it has wonderful books as well just not many. I think this book goes into that category for one of the good ones.
It's a sweet read of two kids who fall in love but don't really know what love is. Fast forward 10 years and see were they are now.
2.7. The writing was okay and I finished it but there weren't any surprises and I have to say I was a little bored. I often had the feeling the book could do with a bit more fleshing out. Some things the authors skims over very quickly in order to get to where she wants the story to be. Like, what about a 20 page B plot for the mother since she's (very suddenly!) getting married in the epilogue? The mother is a sympathetic charater, I would've liked to read a bit more about her?
Or what about B, who loved being a teacher, not mentioning once that she misses teaching after she is let go? As it is, you get the feeling her sole purpose in life is Maddie and nothing else matters?
And what about Maddie and her career? She wins an Oscar, and then the next thing we learn is B and her have gotten married and Maddie is pregnant. Has she quit acting, or are we really supposed to believe the "they got married and pregnant and all was perfect every day" thing in the epilogue? Because I'd imagine being with a movie star brings along long-term problems, and if you want me to believe in this couple, then you have to address the existence of those problems and tell me how they solved them. Too easy.
The story, clichéd as it is of course, is nice and the book could've been better with more... something to it.

Wish there was more exploration on the characters feelings and thoughts.
I really wanted to rate this book, there was potential for more clarity and i would have loved to hear more on what each of the leads felt over the course of their 10 year wait to finally embark on their relationship. There is a B in every one of us, the insecurity and uncertainty of falling in love and fearing that we are inadequate in some ways. I wish I could have known what Maddie truly felt in those 10 years. Much was written about B’s struggles but it seemed to me that Maddie was jumping from one bed to another and finally landed back to B. Still a good read, just a pity that so much was left unexplored.
This was quite good, although the formatting was super frustrating. Approximately half the pages were blank, so it felt like I was reading a KU page-read scammer's book where the pages were blank to increase the page read count. (Note, I didn't read it in KU, this is just the feeling the formatting gave me). I haven't changed my rating of the book based on this.
This is a dual timeline book, which isn't my favourite thing hence the 4/5, although it was quite well paced. The romance had a TON of miscommunication; which was fine when they were teens, but annoying in the sections where they were adults. Otherwise, a lovely book that might suit someone else more than me.
I really enjoyed it. Great characters, angst just short of too much, one good twist in the tale that I didn’t see coming and a lovely HEA. (It loses points for bad grammar and poor word choices in places. I think a good proofreading and editing would have made it sparkle beautifully instead of just gently glow.)
This is a beautiful book by Renee Porter. I have read it several times. It's a slow-burn that takes over a decade. The chemistry is strong from the beginning and continues to grow. I love that there is only outside angst once the relationship begins. I enjoy the coming out. I look forward to more books by this author.
man i just so fucking hate the trope where they so obviously like each other and just dance around it for centuries. it makes me feel so sad for the characters, they could've had each other years ago. I just wish they had those extra years of happiness together. they deserve it both so much.
How is this so highly rated on goodreads??? This is so horribly written. Wtf, goodreads. Have higher standards. Love yourself.
Anyway. This goddamn book. The prose is clunky and awkward, the author doesn't know how humans talk, they're apparently allergic to commas, a subplot disappears halfway through the book, and I'm incredibly disappointed (and offended) how revealing you're the one behind a pseudonym is given the same weight as a Hollywood actress coming out as lesbian.
I was gonna rant more and include screenshots of some moments that made me wonder if the author even spoke english, but I have a headache, so fuck it.
I loved the flow of the story and the journey these characters went on. I especially loved that there was back story to the beginning of how they met. It makes me realize that we can find love at a young age and then as life happens, we can possibly find that love once again if it meant to be. I loved that they were having a baby..I wonder what happens next. Wonderful writing style.
I am a sucker for high school sweethearts and Hollywood starlets, so having a book with that combined . . HECK to the YES!! Prejudice and social norms go out the door when friendship and love take center stage for the main characters, who even after a decade a part never stop loving each other.
Madeline is the outwardly confident one and B is definitely the shy one but it's clear the women are both timid in declaring their love for one another. Until they finally do then it's like we can all jump up and yell 'FINALLY!' Of course when living amid Hollywood, drama ensues, but B and Madeline get that wonderful movie type HEA. Cant' wait to read the rest of this series.
Wow! What a wonderful story! It was heart breaking at first and then it evolved into such a sweet love story! I really enjoyed the main characters as well as the supporting cast which was just as endearing! I look forward to the second book in this series very much. Very well done!
Wow! Absolutely a great book. Beautifully written. The story line is wonderful. My heart was breaking when B was being bullied as a teenager. And then broke again as B and Maddie come together. Great read.
This is the first book I have read by Renee Porter and I can honestly say it won't be the last! It was very romantic with a happy ending, which always makes reading enjoyable. Well done Ms Porter.
