Bluest of Blue

Rate this book
When her ex shattered her privacy, revealing all of her secrets to the world, Sophie Lake made a few unspoken promises to herself:

1. Never have sex with a client. Again.
2. When a man tells you who he is, believe him.
3. Never give a man the power to break you.

For two years she’s managed to live by those rules. She has a career to focus on. Celebrities reputations to fix, and her newest client may be her biggest PR challenge. Promoting an observatory should be a cake walk and would be but for Dr. Wade Addison. The former boy genius is prickly, impatient...handsome...sexy as sin... more interested in how her legs look in heels than in pretending to be a people-person.

Asshole, F**ker, Pain In The Ass...

Wade Addison considers those fairly accurate alternatives to his name. He's not normal, he's an outsider and he prefers it that way, which is why Sophie is his own personal hell. She wants to take all his knowledge and quirks and turn him into a sound bite for the observatory. She's his nightly wet dream. The sound of her voice can get him off. He hates her—her wit, her smile, her legs, her kissable mouth.

Hate turns to lust and lust turns into an affair, but the skeletons in both of their closets start to rattle. And they refuse to be ignored.

Melissa Blue's writing career started on a typewriter one month after her son was born. This would have been an idyllic situation for a writer if it had been 1985, not 2004. Eventually she upgraded to a computer. She's still typing away on the same computer, making imaginary people fall in love.

A short entertaining romance between a genius astrophysicist with bipolar and his newly assigned publicist whose been badly burned by a previous relationship with a client.

This hits pretty much all the formula tropes that you'd expect. The two initially can't stand each other, but have an undeniable physical attraction that they can't help but act on and then have to deal with the fallout, some of which turns out to be a relationship. There's lots of geeky bits (the title is a Doctor Who reference), some reasonable stuff on the aftermath of the diagnosis of a serious mental illness and the sex scenes are quite hot as well.

However, the writing is often a bit clunky and the editing has some major failures on almost every level beyond spell check. That manifests in incorrect references in a few places, lots of missing words and a few cases where the sentences just didn't make sense and paragraph construction that caused me to have to go back and reread more than a few times to get the sense of what was happening.

This was formulaic and fun, and worth it for that, but a better editing process would have fixed a lot of what made this a three star read for me.

4.5 Goon Squad stars out of 5.

Sigh sigh swoon I just knew Wade's book would be the best and that beautiful fez wearing enstein geek didn't disappoint. What a gorgeous ride it was. Wade and Sophie were so fun to get to know, I loved every moment of their relationship, I laughed out loud more than once with all the Doctor Who references, it made my fangirl heart so happy to get the nods to that epic show and for Melissa Blue to include it so perfectly... she's a star.
I read this series in two days and now I'm all mushy over the goon squad
(and CAL! can he join the goon squad, poor rejected baby! )
I loved Grady and Victor, but oh, Wade, that brainy boy has my heart, I'm keeping him!
Highly, MASSIVELY recommend this series if you want fun, sexy, FUN and enjoyable loveable characters.
I want the next book already! ( and five more from Wade *blush* )

Another bonus to help you to decide to read this series. MB writes brilliant heroines. Not at all annoying, sweet, funny, cute women who get their men. And make horrendous cheddar broccoli soup. *laughs*

3.5 that I’m rounding up. Hard to sum this one up - characters with flaws and difficult pasta coming together in a classic romance-novel everything happens so fast sort of way.

Oh I loved this one. Wade and Sophie were complicated as hell, both with secrets and trust issues and a lot of baggage. Once again, I adored his friends stepping up for him and the sex was super hot and I loved the romance.

MMC is bipolar and FMC has trust issues relating to a toxic previous boyfriend

I am almost sad Wade got his HEA. I need a few more books with him as the main focus.

I hope Cal gets his book.

I recommend everyone reads this fun sexy friend filled series. It's so cute and gorgeous I loved it and wish there was more books to read.

Wade by far was my favourite. I was intrigued by the sexy geek from book one and wasn't disappointed.

Definitely books to re-read.

If there was ever a gif to describe Wade it's this one. What a sexy surprise this Goon Squad member was. I have hope this isn't the last we see of that crew, they were all so lovable in their own way, but WADE has come out on top just for the person he is.

Great book, claps for the author who has a stand out voice!

I was provided an advanced reader copy (ARC) of this book in exchange for an honest review. This was the first book I've read from this author, Melissa Blue, so I wasn't sure what to expect. It worked fine as a stand-alone, so you don't have to read the previous books in the series to enjoy it, although reading the books in order might provide more insight about some of the characters.

I enjoyed some aspects of the book. I appreciated the geeky touches, such as mathematical expressions for the chapter numbers and references to Doctor Who. Although I prefer a little less crude language, I generally enjoyed the banter between the main characters and the secondary characters. And I was sufficiently interested in the characters to keep reading to the end, wanting to find out what would happen. In fact, I am curious enough about the Goon Squad to be somewhat tempted to buy the other books in the series, even though I didn't enjoy this book all that much.

However, the writing seemed a bit awkward to me, and the ARC I reviewed had some grammatical problems and quite a few proofreading errors (missing words, extra words, words in the wrong order). There were times when I had a bit of trouble following the dialog or making sense of what was happening, just enough to pull me out of the story. Since I was reading an ARC, perhaps some of these issues will be corrected in the final published version.

Also, this book deals with some very difficult issues, such as mental illness and the difficulty of recovering from past relationship traumas. When I read romances, I do so for pleasure and as a form of escape, and I generally prefer books that are lighter, not so intense. Perhaps this hit a bit too close to home for me. For others, it might be interesting or a refreshing change.

In addition, I'm not sure I really liked the main characters. They felt believable and I could understand the motivations for their actions, but when reading a romance, I want to read about people I like. I didn't hate these characters, I found them interesting, but they also made me a bit uncomfortable. Not really what I'm looking for from a romance.

There was also a lot of explicit sex that I thought happened too soon in the relationship. If you're looking for a steamy read, maybe that will work for you, but I didn't find it very appealing. The series is called Dirty Sexy Geeks, so I guess I should have been more prepared for that.

So, if you enjoy a bit of geekiness and aren't bothered by crude language, explicit sex scenes, relationship conflict that involves coping with mental illness and trauma, and the occasional grammatical error, give this a try. If any of these things are going to really bother you, give this a pass.

I really liked this book but hate that cover. It looks like some kind of motorcycle club book instead of the laid back, handsome, surfer style scientist described in the book. Wade is the aforementioned scientist and because of those looks they need him to do a little PR for the observatory he works for. The problem is Wade himself. He's a jerk and prickly and hyper focused on work. He's also bipolar which he hides pretty well with the help of good friends and his brother. Sophie is the publicist hired to assist Wade through the PR game and has her own hang ups. She had previously fallen for a client who turned out to be a douche that talked trash about her publicly as well as details about her sex life. The internet never forgets and she wants to live down the humiliation. The problem is their major attraction to each other. This is a love story that deals with mental illness in a pragmatic way and I liked that. Both characters were prickly and vulnerable at the same time and made the story satisfying in it's conclusion without spouting that love is a cure all.

As much as I am happy that Wade got his HEA, I thought his story was kind of boring. I really enjoyed the first two books but this one had a boring plot and dialogue.

The best of this book was any and all dialogue between the Goon Squad. The Goon Squad consists of 5 male members and their ladies. They are friends, brothers and family who make real sacrifices for each other because they care sincerely and deeply. With each book I read, I am fascinated by the loyalty they have for each other. They were there for Wade's graduations even when his parents weren't there (by choice). They were all there in tuxedoes when Oliver was presented with his award. They are there to support Wade when he is overcome with sickness even if it's just to make sure he has shaved. The romance between Wade and Sophie was boring but this Goon Squad relationship was the highlight for me.

Unfortunately, I didn’t enjoy this book and didn’t like the main characters. Wade was a jerk to Sophie and everyone for most of the book. Sophie started off as this badass PR person but became a pushover when she met Wade and continued to let him walk over her.

Their relationship started too quickly, they basically hated each other and she already made this mistake before. It was also mainly physical with barely any romance or depth. The names of the chapters were clever though.

I didn't like Wade before his book so I didn't want to read this book but I wanted to finish the series so here I am. Melissa Blue made me love Wade. Sophie was easy to love. Significant, and very steamy.

He’s weird and insufferable. She’s a stubborn, self-important bully who tries to manage him into doing what she wants. It’s hate at first sight. So of course they’re meant for each other, because this is a romance novel.

I don’t know, man. I did enjoy this book, but it also made me really tired. Wade is a genius with bipolar, and I felt like this book depicted him as a freak, at least more than I’m comfortable with. I guess it struck a nerve because some people see me as a prickly, difficult, unstable genius myself, and sometimes that sucks. Like, they seem to think that if they just say how smart they think I am, then I’ll be flattered and think everything is all right. Or, more specifically, be so flattered that I won’t notice that everything is not. Somehow, they think I’m so smart that I’m dumb. I get the same feeling from the way Wade is depicted and the way people treat him in this book. Yuck.

Anyway, I don’t know. Maybe this book shows what life is really like for actual geniuses. How would I know? I bet it’s not, though.

Also, the editing fell short in a big way. I don’t know how this author persuaded Scribd to pimp her so hard (this book was their feature of the day a few days ago, and today it’s another book by her!), but I’m disappointed in them for doing so.

On the other hand, I wanted to read a dumb book. This was one, and I did enjoy it. The difficult thing about wanting to read a dumb book is that it’s so hard to find the just-dumb-enough sweet spot. This was really pretty close.

Wasn't into this one as much as the first two books. I guess I just wasn't into the personalities of either character, and I turned out for most of the story. It was a bit boring, to say the least. Regardless, it kept my attention enough. I thought I wouldn't like the student teacher cliche in the first book, but I actually dislike the client sex way more. It does have some good values to it on the Sophie's end. Her story was more interesting than the Wades. I'd recommend this to a VERY specific type of person.

Intelligence Equals Sexy

This is an intense read—but don’t be intimidated—think in terms of Revenge of the Nerds to the tenth power. This book provided well thought out characters who were smart, complex AND RELATABLE with the added bonuses of humor, steamy sex and Dr. Who, too. I really appreciated the handling of mental health issues and support for the not only the afflicted and for those that love and care about them

♥♥ Oh more geeks please ♥♥

Wade, is by far my favorite of the goon squad. Not to say I don't love the others, I really do. But there's just something about this smart man that makes me sigh with love.

The author did a really excellent job with these characters and story. One I'd happily read again.

I love Melissa Blue's style.

This was an okay love story. The beginning and end were a little boring for me but the middle part was just interesting enough to keep me going. Didn't come out caring about what happens to either character to be honest.
Low key feeling some type of way about how they made fun of Doctor Who. Don't come for my Doctor like that lol.

Endearing cast

Oddly enough this story was slow for me to get into but then as soon as I did I fell for Wade and Sophia like whoa. The instant I felt their connection I was hooked. Amazing story with such an endearing cast.

Astrophysicist and publicist. A little exploration of the impact of mental health issues on relationships. Also learning to trust after a big betrayal. Largely internal plot. Some geekiness around astronomy and Dr. Who. I'll always read more Melissa Blue.

Dr. Wade Addison is a brilliant ASTROPHYSICIST but only those close to him know his dark secret....being diagnosed with Bipolar disorder.

Sophie Lake has been hired to be Wade's publicist for the observatory he works for. Wade is not willing to be paraded in front of people...because he hates people. Each sets out to outwit the other in a sexually charged game. Wade was working his way up her very short list of clients she wanted to skewer. She didn't want to imagine what could happen if she let her guard down with him—a man who one-upped her in the simplest way possible. He seemed to know what to do to drive her mad. Sophie was turning Wade's world on its axis. He thinks she just wants to take all the education he's worked hard to achieve and turn it into a sound bite. Neither knows what to do with other or with their lust and attraction simmering below the surface for one another ..but it makes for a funny and read!

Sophie doesn't know about the struggle Wade fights on a daily basis with his mental disorder...she just finds him an attractive huge pain in her ass with his idiosyncrasies, demands and futile attempts to obey her recommendations for his public relations and publicity for the observatory.

For Wade, the truth about Sophie is that despite how much he wants her out of his life, he dreams about her naked and in his bed! He could be nice and charming when motivated and the way his scalp tingled when she smiled was the best kind of incentive! But then she had to go and lie…so now there are opponents for the simple fact she wants to parade him around like an oddity. To Wade, that’s just unforgivable!

Wades in denial over being heartbroken over his childhood friend choosing another guy over him. Sophie was hurt from her last relationship with a client that ended badly and almost cost her her career. So she maintains a Teflon barrier on her emotions. But is Wade just the man to break thru her barrier and have her breaking all her rules? And is Sophie the woman who can tear down Wade’s emotional walls?

This was a fast and steamy read! With just the right mix of wit, lust and sex appeal!

I was given a free copy for my honest review.

This is what I love about reading

I was just typing away in a fury giving a review to a truly appalling ir romance, it had no depth no real character build lazy dialog etc etc . I have been reading for as long as I remember and now that I am older I feel I don't have to put up with mediocrity in the books I purchase and there is a lot of horrible books in this genre. Here's a tip if you are an author with 25 titles that came out on the same day u don't get 2 looks i would rather wait out a great authors creative process then even contemplate this phenomenon of book after book day after day but I digress.
This was a great story with great characters you don't have to read the others in this series to enjoy this smoking hot read. But I bet you'll want to. Melissa never writes lazy her characters are wonderful the male in this book has extra reasons for his flawed behavior but that made me like him more. Best of all the female was so we'll rounded strong without being arrogant flawed and vulnerable due to a past indiscretion. I love love loved it and I think it's well worth a read, it went by too quickly for me but ill take what I can get. There are some hot mess books out there, read a good book like this and wait for the good authors to take their time and give us the product we deserve.

I love a lot about Melissa Blue's #dirtysexygeeks series. The thing I love the most is that she deals with flawed characters and still shows that they can find love. I've been waiting for Wade's book since To One Hundred. He's a very compelling character: he's funny, he's literally a genius, he's loyal, and he's a sarcastic smartass . What's not to like, amirite? He also is dealing with mental health issues, which honestly just made me love him more. Sophie, his love interest, is a woman who was publicly humiliated by her ex and due to that has built up some pretty impenetrable walls to keep herself safe. Reading Sophie and Wade's relationship develop is enjoyable and heartbreaking. They're human and it's great. They make mistakes as their relationship develops and they both are afraid of being vulnerable. Sometimes I feel like romance novel protagonists are written like they're perfect, with no flaws or very superficial ones that are easily dealt with. Sophie and Wade, and the main characters in the other books in the #dirtysexygeeks are not like that. Did I mention that throughout the book Dr. Who is frequently referenced and the title of each chapter is a mathematic equation whose answer is the number of the chapter? It's a very well written and enjoyable book. I loved it.
