Accidentally on Purpose is book three in the Heartbreaker Bay series by Jill Shalvis. Sometimes I just have to pinch myself because I am so lucky to get the opportunity to read these fabulous books. Time after time I get to submerge myself into these wonderful stories, lose myself in the characters. I most definitely did that with this one. I can’t wait for you to meet Elle and Archer. You’re going to fall in love.

Accidentally On Purpose - Jill Shalvis:

We have known these two since the beginning of the series and it was always obvious there was some sort of a history there and an undeniable chemistry constantly simmered between them. We finally get to find out what it is that binds these two together.

Elle Wheaton is the general manager of the Pacific Pier Building in San Francisco. Elle works hard, both at her job, and at the online classes she is taking. She never appears less than perfect. But it’s all just that, appearances, because she doesn’t ever want people to see what she used to be, especially Archer. Because he saw her then, when she was just sixteen years old and a street rat in her torn clothes and empty belly. She wants him to see her as she is now, a full grown, successful, independent woman. But she has worked at this job for a year in the same building where he works. And he has never treated her any more than as just a friend, one of the group. Oh, that chemistry is there all right. They both feel it, she’s sure of that. And they can’t get within ten feet of each other without fighting. But that’s it. So, she’s done trying. It’s time to move on, date other men. She is definitely through pining for someone that doesn’t want her.

hotness:

Archer Hunt owns Hunt Investigations in the Pacific Building. Seeing Elle every day is his own personal torture. But she deserves so much more than anything he could ever offer her. He is determined to keep their relationship on a friend basis. That is, until she decides to date other men. The thought of any other man touching her sends him into a raging orbit. So, he makes sure those dates don’t work out. And now is determined to show Elle that he is the man for her. It took him a year to finally give in to his feelings for her, but he is the only man for Elle, he just has to make sure she knows it too.

“He already couldn’t remember what it’d been like before her. He’d thought everything was great in his life but then he’d been thrown a curveball in the form of this gorgeous, passionate woman who he suddenly couldn’t get enough of. Which made it official. He was hers, completely.”

kiss

These two were amazing. I’m pretty sure I’m in love with Archer. He is a rough, tough, alpha that everyone is afraid of, except Elle that is. She has no problem going nose to nose with him, and does it often. It isn’t just Archer’s fault that it has taken them so long, though, to find their way to each other. Elle has long since put up walls around her. She doesn’t trust. She’s got good reason to be that way. Can she take a risk and let Archer in?

“You probably had more adventures today than I’ll have in a lifetime. Walking must seem tame to you.”
“Elle, you’re more of an adventure than anything that’s ever happened to me.”

Accidentally on Purpose - Jill Shalvis:

I’m so excited for you to meet these two. You can read this as a stand alone most definitely. But, I have loved the entire series. Every character I’ve met has stolen my heart. I think Archer might be my favorite but I might have said that before after the previous books. Does that make me fickle? Probably. I hope you get a chance to give this a try. You will laugh, sigh, and yes, you will swoon. Happy reading!

It’s no Accident I Purposely read a Jill Shalvis

2017 has started off a little rocky for me on the reading front. It doesn’t happen very often but I have been dragging my feet to pick up my kindle. I’ve had the ARC of Accidentally on Purpose for a little while and maybe, deep down, I held off starting it because I knew that I’d need a little Jill Shalvis magic one day.

I can freely admit that Jill Shalvis is one of the main reasons why I read and review. Her books always make me laugh, smirk, squirm, frown and even shed a tear. My emotions are always being played with but never excessively. Jill Shalvis is the Queen of Comfort Reads.

I love reading (the Queen's) books where the characters are strong, smart and passionate through their expressions of love, lust and friendship. These same characters have weaknesses, moments of stupidity and can show passion through anger, frustration and jealousy. Jill Shalvis’s characters are real…warts and all.

I loved Accidentally on Purpose but I won’t need to say a lot to get you to see why.

She’s stubborn, independent, determined and ambitious…and one of the most beautiful women in four-inch heels.

He’s stubborn, independent, determined and ambitious…and one of the sexiest men in a flak vest and boots.

They have history and feelings that have been simmering for years.

Neither of them is willing to risk their hearts by exposing their feelings.

She wants the best for him and he wants the best for her.

What they don’t realise until now...

Elle with the long legs and beautiful eyes and Archer with the strong body and big...muscles are the best for each other.

…and nobody else would have them because - he’s scary, she’s cold as ice, he shows no emotions and her emotions are hidden behind a beautiful screen.

See...a match made in heaven.

Accidentally on Purpose was the type of story that I was desperate to know what was going to happen next. I went out to dinner with the family and honest to goodness, as soon as I walked in the door a big smile hit my face. It was time to return to the Mum Cave (my reading happy place) to see the Ice Princess attack, and the Warrior get his shot.

I can happily say that Accidentally on Purpose gave me the heart flutters that I love, the touch of angst that I need and the big goofy smile that I want.

Elle loves wearing her sexy armour and I couldn't help but create an outfit as a Style Setter Tribute.

What is it with us?” she murmured.
He laughed softly. “How is that a funny question?”
“Because I try very hard to always know what I’m doing,” he said. “But I’m winging it here, Elle. I have no idea what we’re doing but one thing I’m sure as hell not doing is walking away from you. Not ever again.”

Swoon. Swoon. SWOON. ALL OF THE SWOONS!

I adore Jill Shalvis books. Simply adore them. She never fails to deliver an amazing romance with some of the most endearing characters I've read and bundle it all together around an addictingly swoony story that will put a smile on your face and keep it there.

As soon as I met Elle and Archer in Sweet Little Lies, I knew I wanted their book. Their antagonistic ways sucked me in right from the beginning. What can I say, I'm a sucker for a good hate lust and the unresolved tension between these two is downright sizzling. It's clear they have a troubled history but you never know what it is...until this book that is. Knowing all those details now just made it that much more satisfying. I can wholeheartedly say it was so very much worth the wait.

Archer is a past cop turned security specialist that has lost none of his edge. He's hard, deadly when crossed, and take charge alpha all around. So why does one stunning beauty manage to rattle him every single time he hears the click of her stilettos?

Elle was as fantastic of a heroine as I imagined she'd be. She's strong, take no bullshit, focused on her career and doesn't need a relationship or a man to make her happy. Don't get me wrong, she's not a man eater or prickly and brash. She's simply comfortable with who she is and in her own skin. I loved that about her. It's wonderful to get a woman that's strong in all the right ways and yet still has enough softness to her to make her endearing.

Elle has secretly always wanted Archer but she never imagined that the chemistry between them would be as scorching as it is when Archer finally gives into the inevitable.

And can I just say how PERFECT Archer was? Because, oh my god! This. Man.
Shh,” he said gently and crouched down to her level. “Just me. Scoot.”
“Why?”
“Because you’re having bad dreams. I’ll beat them off for you.”
“How?”
“I’ll hold you tight and not let anything get you.”

GAH!

I loved these two together. Absolutely loved them. Everything about this book was fantastic; the main couple, the secondary characters, the story, the romance. EVERYTHING. I love the easy camaraderie all these friends have together. When they all get together, it's always a recipe for goofy grins.

If you love swoony and steamy contemporary romance, read ANY Jill Shalvis book. But if you're like me and have already read her entire backlist, than this new series from her is simply addicting. I already can't wait for more.

Title: Accidentally on Purpose
Series: Heartbreaker Bay #3
Author: Jill Shalvis
Release date: January 24, 2017
Cliffhanger: No
HEA

Fellow romance lovers, I have a shocking confession. It's been five years since my last Jill Shalvis book. Five. Years. I had to go consult my goodreads shelves to find out because I couldn't even remember how long it had been. After reading Accidentally on Purpose, I feel like I need to claim temporary insanity for my crime. This book was pure, unadulterated, romantic bliss. If you're in the mood for something sexy that will have you swiftly flipping the pages in delight, look no further. Elle and Archer's story had three key selling points that you find in top-notch romance:

Heart, Humor, and Heat.

Let's start with the heart. The most important thing, I think. Obviously, I'm a new reader of this series. But from what I gleaned about this couple, they're known for being argumentative at best and antagonistic at worst. Not exactly enemies, but they love to sling barbs on a regular basis. Archer is alpha to his core, and Elle is a strong, independent woman who doesn't back down from anyone. However, now the reader is given some insight into their full history.

Archer and Elle met when she was sixteen, and he was a new cop on the force. She was a young girl who found herself in a dangerous situation, and he made a choice to sacrifice his career for her safety.
This couple's connection and emotions ran deep, essentials that were fine-tuned by Shalvis. Their first meeting was brief but life changing for both, each having conflicting emotions that have lingered over the years.

Archer has grown to feel protective, which is part of the reason why he keeps his distance from her despite his intense attraction. Feeling as if he would only dredge up painful memories of what she has overcome, he masks his desire for her. Elle feels deeply indebted to him for what her useless family have caused him. Their dance around each other was plausible and filled with delicious tension. Though, I will say that I would have liked to have seen their resistance snap just a shade sooner. They were both too stubborn for their own good. But what I loved was the fact that underneath their tangled emotions, there was genuine affection and support for each other.

He mocked her. He teased her. He drove her nuts. But she could ask anything of him, anything at all, and she knew he'd find a way to come through, no matter what.

The humor was sharp and consistent throughout the book. I really fell in love with the dynamic of their whole group of friends. The camping trip in particular was one of my favorite parts, it was so funny! But I think what I loved most was the witty banter between Elle and Archer. She never lost an opportunity to throw her sass around, and he bandied it right back at her unfazed. It was hilarious to see who would come out on top as the victor in their little scuffles, they never failed to entertain.

We can't forget about the heat. Oh, the delicious chemistry these two had zinging between them. They had some major sparks flickering that they wouldn't acknowledge. These two put up the good fight, but willpower is a tricky thing. Once you get your first taste, you can't ignore the elephant in the room any longer. One burst of anger leads to a punishing kiss, and their passion finally ignites. It didn't take long for Archer to chuck his good intentions out the window and lay claim to the woman he's been aching for for so long.

I have no idea what we're doing but one thing I'm sure as hell not doing is walking away from you. Not ever again."

Once a man like him makes up his mind to pursue and conquer, nothing will stand in his way. Not her guarded heart, not her troublesome family. He's her rock, her comfort, and her home.

I really loved this set of characters and I'm eagerly looking forward to Spencer's story, Chasing Christmas Eve, out September 26th. I'm seriously kicking myself for not discovering this series from the beginning, but that's going to be rectified very soon. If the first two are anything like this one than I have tons of feel-good romance waiting for me. If you're looking for your next read, take a trip to Heartbreaker Bay. You won't be disappointed.

4.5 - "We're never done." Stars!

We return to the Heartbreaker Bay series for book three; Accidentally on Purpose. I am not ashamed to admit I did a little happy dance when I found out this was Elle and Archer’s book.

Jill has tempted and teased her readers with the undeniable chemistry between this pair throughout the previous books in the series, and going in you know that this is a couple that has a past, and it’s a past that the rest of the gang only know the bare essentials of.

"I just don’t want you to…"

"What?"

"Be reminded of the girl that I used to be…"

And it’s a past that is actually a refreshing change in comparison to the previous books in the series, all of which I have enjoyed, but the depth and emotion between Elle and Archer, because of their mutually shared experiences in the past just took this book to a little level of its own.

He made it hard for a girl to not fall head over heels.

This is a couple that have had the unmistakable sizzle of attraction buzzing between them for a long time, but the relationship has almost moved to the frenemies bracket because Archer doesn’t believe that he is good enough for Elle, but there are lapses on both sides, especially as it becomes obvious that someone from Elle’s past may just be looking to cause trouble for her again, but it just causes more confusion on Elle’s part so she decides to draw a line under Archer Hunt, and start dating again.

"I deserve more. I mean I understand I do. Once you’ve protected someone the way you protected me, you get… well, protective. But I’m no longer that sixteen-year-old girl, Archer. I’m a grown woman."

Elle’s sister is also introduced in the story that plays out, and I am interested to see if the author has plans to use her as the lead in one of the future books, because there is definitely a guy within the group that I think she has potential with.

"What is it with us?"

This is a book that I devoured, the author delivered the drama and intrigue really well around the emotion and sexy-times that build between this couple, I loved Archer for all of his bravado and hero-complexity, there was also an extremely endearing and vulnerable man that you get to see, especially when it came to Elle; again on the surface you see the confident ball-buster, but when it got down to the heart-to-heart between them you could see that they were perfect for each other because of those traits.

"Whatever you need… Always."

I am glad that we didn’t have to wait any longer for Archer and Elle to have their story told, weirdly it made them feel more human to me in regards to the series as a whole, and I am looking forward to seeing how their relationship progresses though the future books in the series, for which I cannot find any concrete information, although there looks to be novella in the works for later 2017.

PAPERBACK GIVEAWAY

Jill Shalvis has been a favorite author of mine since I was in high school and sneaking my mothers romance books from her shelf. But I was reading to beat her door down and demand this book when I learned we were finally going to get Elle and Archer's story. They've been the characters that I've noticed since book one because of the unquestionable connection they shared.

In Accidentally on Purpose we get to learn the past these two characters share and how it has impacted the people they are now. I loved learning more about Elle and Archer and getting to see all that sexual chemistry they had between them. I loved every single scene where they were together because it was undeniable that they wanted each other, even if they themselves didn't always recognize that.

Elle is probably one of my favorite heroines from this series because she had amazing strength. It was rare to see her letting something get to her and instead she would just brush things off. Though when we did see her vulnerable side it was just as great to see how she handled those moments.

Bottom line, this is more then a recommended book from me; this is a book I want to scream at ever person I know to read. Archer and Elle are one sexy couple and you will be severely missing out if you don't experience them together.

4.5 'Loving the real you' Stars!

I am sure many of you, at this point, already know that I am becoming addicted to Jill Shalvis. Her Heartbreaker Bay series fascinates me and I was extremely excited to finally read this story. Jill had been teasing us about Elle and Archer’s chemistry since the very start of the series and I can now assure you their story was fantastic! These two are more than meets the eye and I was so surprised of the many things we did not know about them.

So, Accidentally on Purpose is the third installment in the Heartbreaker Bay series and, as I said, it tells the highly anticipated love story between Elle Wheaten and Archer Hunt. These two.. they seem to kind of hate each other. Or is it all pretend? Archer is a serious man, a man dedicated to his job and a man who has been very protective of Elle since the very beginning. Their first meeting is something that still is very much alive in their lives, especially since it’s the start of the development of the weird chemistry between them. Elle is a woman with a difficult past, a woman with priorities and she also cannot stop what she feels for Archer. Will they act on it? Will it be mind-blowing and surprisingly sweet? Heck yes!

He could no more curb his insane need to keep her protected and safe than he could stop breathing. It’d always been like that for him with her.

Gah, I am in love with these two! I definitely did not expect all that we discovered about this couple. Archer feels extremely protective of Elle. He is always looking for her, always thinking about her. And not only in a “friendly” way.. The same happens for Elle, she feels their connection. She is ready to leave it aside since Archer finds it difficult to express his feelings. However, that protectiveness and that chemistry? It becomes unstoppable and simply out-of-this-world amazing.

“I want you, Elle,” he said, voice low and rough. “It’s a goddamn ache, I want you so much. Just like this, dripping wet in every way, blind with need.”

The development of this love story was brilliant. I loved the back and forth between Archer and Elle, I loved seeing them vulnerable and protective of each other. I loved when they start acting on what they feel. And, OH MY GOD, these two are hawt hawt hawt! All that hotness mixed with uncontrollable feelings? I melted all over the place! I love a good swoon fest and Accidentally on Purpose surely gave me that (and so much more!). I am so happy for Elle and Archer, I loved them together and I wish we had even more moments of these two as a couple because they stole my heart with their love story!

“Whatever you want as long as we do it together.”
“But we irritate each other.”
“Yes,” he said, “but I’ve discovered that I want to spend every irritated moment with you.”

Therefore, I am rating Accidentally on Purpose with 4.5 STARS because I definitely got what I wished Elle and Archer’s love story would be. They amazed me with their first meeting, with their back and forth of hate to love and their beautiful and oh-so-sweet chemistry! I am surely satisfied on how these brilliant characters got their happy ending. Jill Shalvis, you are a genius and I can’t wait to read more about all this people. Highly recommend this one!

5 It's Always Been You Stars!

 photo 6477392E-C71A-41AD-A2F9-F24F21CF161D_zpsp2hez9wz.jpg

Elle Wheaton came from nothing & has built a life for herself she's proud of. No longer the scared weak girl she once was, she's now a strong, confident woman. She's moved on and is never looking back. She lives in the Cow Hollow district of San Francisco, has fabulous friends & a wonderful job as the general manager at the Pacific Pier Building.

Elle's job requires her to work closely with the security firm down the hall, Hunt Investigations. The head of security is the intelligent, intimidating, bossy, controlling alpha owner Archer Hunt. He was antagonistic & always clashing with Elle. He drove her crazy, but she also had a major crush on him.

 photo 5A9231F0-A6B9-4AF9-9773-E3A1F659D4E3_zpsd9qzr9yu.png

Elle had a history with Archer, which was something she tried her best not to ever think about. Years ago he was there for her when she found herself in a bad situation. Ever since that night he has been someone that's always been there for her. She knows she can count on him for anything & he's the one person who will come through for her, but deep down she's always wanted more.

Archer cares deeply for Elle. He wants to protect her & feels it's his job to keep her safe. After such a rough start in life, he only wants the best for her. He watches her date other men until he just can't take it anymore. He decides to prove to her their meant to be. He wants her to be his & goes after her hard. They both are in serious lust over each other & the sexual tension is out of control until it finally explodes & they act on their feelings.

-Truthfully, she was the best thing in his life and he was a complete idiot if he let her walk away from him.

-Her smile lit up his world.

-"I want you, Elle," he said, voice low and rough. "It's a goddamn ache, I want you so much."

-"I want in your life, Elle. All the way in."

This book was fun, flirty, hot as hell & everything I love about a Jill Shalvis story. Archer was a tough, delicious alpha male with a huge heart & an even sexier body. I love it when a big yummy badass guy falls hard for a woman. This is one of my favorite books by this author! I hope we get a book for the nerdy genius Spence next. I'm dying for some Spence!!! ;))

A sassy, sizzling battle of the wills with lots of heart. Jill Shalvis always brings a smile to my face.

Having nothing but given ea chance by a rookie cop who put his job on the line for her, Elle Wheaten has spent the last decade making a life for herself. Leaving her grifter origins behind Elle is studying to get her accounting degree while working as a building manager. It may seem like a lot but she expertly balances everything with ease except her love life, that’s occupying of the offices in the building she manages. She’s tried to get Archer Hunt to notice her ever since he helped her all those years ago, but the man is an island never letting anyone in. A frustrating fact that’s pushed her to try and move on.

From the moment he saw the fearless and strong Elle, he wanted her. But being six years her senior while she was a mere sixteen forced him to take care of her from afar. Now that she has her life on track though he can’t find it in him to stay away any longer. But after a decade of keeping her at arm’s length there are a few minor setbacks. He’s sabotaged a couple of her dates earning him her ire and he can’t seem to be able to convince her to take a chance on them.

Even though each book in this series can be read as a standalone, I kind of wish I had read the previous ones before getting to Elle and Archer’s story. Having read this book, I can only imagine the explosive interactions between them in the past. Love-hate relationships that ooze sexual tension can’t get any better than with two difficult, wilful and clueless characters with a history that binds them.

Elle is strong and independent, never a hair out of place, a woman who most men line up to have shot at. She’s smart and sassy and isn’t afraid of directing her sass towards a man who intimidates just about everyone. She’s very easy to like and I got how all her friends and Archer’s friends flocked around her.

jill Shalvis creates tough on the outside heroes with a melt-your-heart inside. Archer is a deliciously brooding alpha male with a stoic façade. But he cared for Elle since he met her, he was practically obsessed with it. I enjoyed watching him realize just how much he loved her.

The two of them were wonderful together. They had each other’s back no matter what they were feeling towards the other in the moment which made for a beautiful friendship. They also drove each other insane with desire, lust and sometimes just flat out craziness because of their lack of communication. They have a lot of things to work through besides their burgeoning feelings and explosive attraction. He has secrets, she feels indebted to him, and they both have fears. But throughout it all I was highly entertained and invested in them.

I really enjoyed getting to know Elle and Archer’s entire group of friends. They all gave the story an added layer of charm, that made me want to get to know each and every one of them but I especially loved Spencer. Archer and Elle’s best friend who played a reluctant cupid between the two. I’m sure his story will bring a huge smile to all Jill Salvis fans including this romance lover.

Accidentally On Purpose is the third book in the Heartbreaker Bay series by Jill Shalvis. It is a standalone, full-length, contemporary romance full of fun banter and super sexy bits that will bring a smile to your face. Told from both points of view, with a happy ending.

I haven't read traditionally published romance in a good long while. Blame it on the fact that I prefer the "rough around the edges" type of stories, anti-heroes and/or asshole heroes, and very explicit sex scenes that indie books tend to have more often. But this little gem came to me in my Romance Reveal box and it looked cute.

And it WAS cute. Sure, maybe it was a touch sweet and lovey-dovey for my usual taste, but that was its charm. It was a nice feel-good love story. Archer was yummy. And while Elle at times irritated me for being annoyed over what I felt were incredibly trivial things, they worked together, they sparked. There was a touch of action, but overall this was more about the couple.

I'll be adding Miss Shalvis to my list of authors to read when I need some mental windex to clear away the crazy, dark, twisted, explicit sh*t I usually read (and write lol).

Read it.

Sweet second chance romance read where hero saves heroine while sacrificing his life and career, then leaves only to reappear 11 years later. Lots of push and pull from main characters, as they try and figure their feelings whilst melting their frozen hearts. But ultimately, they knew they belonged to each other.

I have been waiting for Elle and Archer's story ever since the first book in the series. They just obviously belonged together but I knew that watching them figure it out would be a lot of fun. This book lived up to my expectations and I really enjoyed watching Elle and Archer admit their feelings both to themselves and each other.

Elle and Archer are very close. They have known each other for a long time and actually have a very interesting history that really explained a lot. Elle feels like she is in Archer's debt because of the events of the past. Archer does not feel like Elle has cause him any damage and has looked out for her over the years. They both have deep feelings for each other but they have never acted on them.

I liked learning about Elle's past. She is such a confident and put together woman and it was interesting to learn just how different her teen years were. It really explained why she works so hard to better herself and strives to be as perfect as she can. The fact that Archer knows about her past is a fact that Elle never forgets. He doesn't hold anything against her and is in fact impressed by all that she has accomplished.

I loved Elle and Archer together. The chemistry between the pair was incredibly intense. Waiting for them to actually act on their attraction to each other was intense and I was relieved when they finally kissed. The way they acted towards each other as the book progressed was fun to watch. Their romance ended up being as intense as I had expected.

I would highly recommend this book to fans of contemporary romance. This is the third book in the Heartbreaker Bay series but it could be read as a stand alone. It was fun to hang out with the characters from the previous books again for a little while. I hope that we see a few more books in this wonderful series.

I received an advance reader edition of this book from Avon Books via Edelweiss.

Initial Thoughts
Archer and Elle's story didn't disappoint. I love these two together.

I freaking ADORED this book!! I was in the mood for a feel-good contemporary romance, which Jill Shalvis definitely delivered. This is only my second book by her, and my first in the Heartbreaker Bay series, but I’m thinking I need to read the rest of this series and more from her backlist… asap! Gah, this book was seriously so sweet and funny. I swooned over Elle and Archer’s story. If you’re ever in the mood for a romance that will totally put a smile on your face, you need to get your hands on Accidentally on Purpose!

Elle used to have a crush on Archer, which started back when he saved her when she was a teenager, but she’s been trying to find other men to get over him. It doesn’t help that now, years later, they’re working in such close environments that a day can’t go by without seeing each other. They have a brilliant chemistry between them – they get on each others’ nerves, they’re the only ones that can rile the other up, and they definitely want each other. Archer has tried to stay away from Elle for her sake, but watching her date men that aren’t good enough for her and will never be good enough for her is starting to break him. So he decides to take matters into his own hands and give her the man she needs… himself.

God. He already couldn’t remember what it’d been like before her. He’d thought everything was great in his life but then he’d been thrown a curveball in the form of this gorgeous, passionate woman who he suddenly couldn’t get enough of.
Which made it official. He was hers, completely. “You’re beautiful, Elle,” he said, pressing tight against her. “The most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen.”

Elle is such a fantastic heroine! Her stubbornness and strength had my admiration, and her banter with Archer had me giggling and dying for more. Anytime these two characters were together on the pages, I honestly couldn’t stop smiling. They are ADORABLE together – they just don’t realize it. ;) Their friends had me cracking up as well – I definitely need to get on reading the other couples’ books soon!

The easiest way to make me happy with a book is to give me a hero who works hard to win the heroine’s love, and Archer did just that. He’s a little gruff and just as stubborn as Elle… but the way he worshipped Elle had me having hearts in my eyes. If you’re a fan of well-written, funny, feel-good romances, I highly recommend you pick up this book. Accidentally on Purpose was such a fantastic read – I’m really hoping Jill Shalvis’ other books are like this one, because if so, I’m going to love them all!

“You’re gorgeous,” he said reverently. “The best thing that’s ever happened to me.” He met her gaze. “I’ve never wanted anything or anyone the way I want you.”

4.3ish stars :)

This was my favorite Heartbreaker Bay book and ever-so-close to five stars, brought down only by a couple of particularly irritating and contrived plot devices which strengthened my belief that nearly all romance novels are at least 75-100 pages longer than they need to be :)

Happily, I don't expect too much from the plotting and pacing of my beloved romances anyway, preferring to focus on the characters, dialogue and whether these books make me smile and convey that 'life is actually a heck of a lot better than we sometimes think it is' sense of hope. I'm delighted to report that Accidentally on Purpose delivered on all counts!

I have a pet peeve about Shalvis's 'alpha' obsession, especially since she often lazily and clunkily tells us over and over that her men are so very "alpha" rather than trusting her characters' words and actions to speak for themselves. (And I'll admit that I've lost sight of what the heck an alpha is even supposed to be at this point since nearly EVERY romance claims to feature one! Maybe it's because I'm a weirdo who often prefers intelligent, geeky "betas" with underlying strength rather than the same cocky, dominating 'alphas'?! If anyone can recommend a romance with this type of hero, I will love you forever, and ---okay, enough digressing!)

Anyway, the good news is that Archer comes off as a really authentic ' badass alpha', not just another bland, emotionally constipated guy who Shalvis just keeps telling us over and over is a badass alpha. She does a great job of capturing Archer's more genuine badassery and vitality while convincingly showing how his background and experiences would give him his particular set of talents, strengths and flaws.

While I 100% get why many dislike Elle, she quickly emerged one of my favorite Jill Shalvis heroines ever! For whatever strange reason, I happen to love the way Jill Shalvis depicts this general type of heroine: prickly, 'bitchy', and very guarded yet vulnerable, loyal and loving underneath (e.g., Aubrey and Amy from the Lucky Harbor series and now Elle from this one!) While a lot of the other female characters from this series tend to blend together for me as very similar, interchangeable and generic heroines, Elle has such a distinctive, consistent and vividly defined personality. I wouldn't necessarily connect with her in real life, but I found her incredibly interesting and entertaining to read about.

I found the Archer/Elle chemistry sizzling, and the fact that they had a complex and rather unusual history added depth and nuance to their connection. This history also provided a fairly satisfactory answer to the omnipresent "what's keeping the H and h from just getting together immediately?" question that many romances fail to account for :)

I'm not someone who automatically buys into a couple's connection just because an author tells me it's there. In fact, I'm often left with the impression that many of Jill Shalvis's couples have more of a lust-driven, superficial attraction than a deep and enduring bond. (Pet peeve: this impression is aided by the fact that the women in Shalvis's books constantly think about and discuss the sexual/physical aspects of their relationships---which would be fine, except that it's often at the exclusion of focusing on anything resembling real love, emotional and intellectual connection, etc.!)

The good news with regard to this installment, however, is that I found myself buying hook, line and sinker into the idea that Archer and Elle really are meant to be, in part because they're both so stubborn, prickly, and emotionally closed off from the world at large that I can't imagine anyone else truly understanding them and choosing to stick around! They're the type who will always argue and test each other's boundaries yet fiercely, deeply love each other and forever have each other's backs.

As noted above, I'm still not really in love with the other female characters in this series or their friendships, which seem really interchangeable and undefined to me (Willa, Pru, Colbie, Kylie, Haley...they all seem to have more or less the same personality - or lack thereof!) But it's nice to have a little 'you go, girl!' female empowerment in these type of books even if I don't find the females in question very interesting characters :) Same goes for all the all-male scenes in this book: most of the characters and their relationships with one another feel more or less identical and generic, but the scenes do lead to a few amusing lines and the sense that these guys do care about each other.

Bonus points because Spencer seemed a little more like the endearingly geeky, socially oblivious but witty and brilliant introvert in this book than he does in his OWN book, in which he suddenly speaks, behaves, and is described as just another bland, indistinct Shalvis "alpha."

I could nitpick again about the prose and problematic punctuation placement in Jill Shalvis's books like the hopeless nerd that I am, but overall this book left me feeling happy and hopeful, so why bother?! Objectively, there are always minor to major problems with Jill Shalvis's actual writing, characterization, plotting, etc., and yet subjectively her blend of heart, humor, heat and hope makes me feel happy and alive. The whole is almost always greater than her novel's individual parts, and due to this one's more memorable heroine and her nuanced connection with the hero, this one may be one of my top 3-4 Shalvis books so far!

Maybe Jill Shalvis just isn't my cuppa tea?
The angsty staying away from each other thing was pretty flimsy. I feel like this had enough actual content for a short story, but was stretched out into an entire novel. Meh.

*goofy reader girl dance* Yes! Accidentally on Purpose...total book noms. This was actually my first 2017 read and, gah, the magical world of Jill Shalvis is seriously my happy place.

So basically... Elle and Archer have wanted each other for practically ever. But they're difficult. And clueless. And think the other just wants to be friends or just tolerates them *hangs head* Dude. Everyone knows they want in each others panties. Every. One. Except them. lol Elle moving on and deciding to date other men? Well. That's Archer's breaking point. Rational thought...goodbye. No one is getting his girl but him. And so a battle of wills begins.

I loved these two together. They aren't fluffy sweet romance. More combative and all about the bickery and driving each other a little crazy. But the caring and sweetness between them was there too. And it was seriously fun watching their clueless selves not realize the other wanted them back. They're stubborn, driven, hard headed, and still dealing with some hard bits in the past when he was a cop and rescued teenage her from danger.

The room kind of sizzled when they were in it together but goodness did they futz things up for a while. lol There's a little heat but not as much as hers usually have I didn't think. But there were some real fun and sassy moments getting to the naughty.

Add a bit of suspense to the mix with her ne'er do well sister coming around needing help and some time on the job with Archer and his security guys--omg I'm seriously going to need their stories--and it was really just an interesting and dynamic read. There were some great moments with their friends and some really touching ones as they both healed damaged family relationships.

Another win from Shalvis! The Heartbreaker Bay series has me totally smitten with another wonderful group of crazy, eclectic friends that have tremendous heart. Definitely people I'd want to call friends and that I've been tickled watching fall in love. I can't wait for the next one!

He snorted. “Elle, you’re always right. It’s your world and we all just live in it.

This book just ruined the whole series for me. I just want all of them to be about Elle now. I read romance solely to find and read about characters like her.

Not fair Jill Shalvis. Should've left this one for the last.

Accidentally on Purpose continues in the same vein as the prior Heartbreaker Bay books, and the romance made me melt into a puddle.

Review - (un)Conventional Bookviews

This series is filled with feel-good romance, great friendships and off the chart chemistry! Accidentally on Purpose is sweet, quirky, hot and funny, I had a really good time getting to know Elle and Archer better. It was apparent in the prior books that they were reluctantly attracted to each other, and that they were both holding back. Understanding why was very nice, and seeing behind Elle's close to perfect façade made me like her even more. A go-getter and caregiver, Elle is always there for her friends, giving advice, helping out, working hard... But she doesn't really take the time to do anything that's just for her - almost as if she doesn't deserve to be as happy as everyone else. And Archer... *sighs* he's hot - more so because he's so caring behind his tough exterior than because he's good looking. And seeing these two try to stay away from each other and failing was epic!

And aside from the romance and the attraction between Elle and Archer, there was danger lurking in the shadows. Accidentally on Purpose introduced some new characters, too, from Elle and Archer's common past - and they were not necessarily good news... With the added suspense, this story kept me even more at the edge of my seat than the earlier Heartbreaker's Bay novels, as I had to know that Elle would stay safe. Of course, not everything went according to plan, and there was quite a bit of heartache there for a while, and my heart squeezed in hurt for the characters who were hurting and didn't know what to do to make it better.

As always with a Shalvis romance there are some very strong friendships as well, and they are just as important (if not more so) than the romantic feelings the protagonists have for each other. I think the friendships are a big part of why I always come back for more, and why I feel so satisfied when I have finished reading - and this was also the case with Accidentally on Purpose. Written in third person, past tense, but with lots of fabulous dialogues, the story flowed evenly, and I was riveted from the first sentence to the last.

Now he outright smiled and her breath caught. Damn, stupid, sexy smile. And then there was The Body. Yes, she thought of it in capital letters, it deserved the respect.

He got to his offices in six minutes and came in the back entrance. Joe was standing there waiting for him, looking terrified. Earlier that night he'd faced down a crazy dude with a knife without blinking, but Elle scared him. Good to know.

Pru smiled and took her hand. "You do know that when this category five storm hits, your real sisters will be at your back, right?" Willa took her other hand and squeezed, nodding her agreement with Pru's words, her eyes solemn. "Always," she said. "Through sickness, gray hair and health, babe."

It's complicated. But oh so fun to read. How these two met will captivate you. Archer and Elle met when she was just a young girl in a situation that warranted some major help. And Archer paid the price.

Elle bugged me a bit -- her stubbornness got old after awhile. And Archer, well I really liked the guy. He was the real deal. It's a battle between them before they finally get to the good part - but well worth it. Jill Shalvis makes it worthwhile. Her writing has always appealed to me. She always makes me laugh, ooh and aah - maybe after a lot of grumbling, but we always reach the goal.

In the third book of the Heartbreaker Bay series, Jill Shalvis charms and delights readers with Elle and Archer’s story. These two don’t really get along well but beneath the sniping at one another, you can tell that they really do like each other and are simply trying to hide it.

I immediately liked Elle and Archer separately. Shalvis has a great way of making you care about her characters and these two might actually be my favorite characters in the series so far. The entire book is light and charming, which I’ve always come to expect from Jill Shalvis, but she does try to incorporate some action scenes in here as well. For these particular stories, I don’t always require that. Whenever I read a Shalvis book, I prefer witty banter and sweet romance so the rest is just bonus really.

While in my review of the last book I mentioned that the banter with friends was a little over the top, I think it’s much more manageable and tolerable in this one. Friendship is a huge part of this series if you can’t already guess and there’s plenty of joking around and roughhousing between the guys, but in this case, I enjoyed their banter and jabs at each other because they both furthered the story and set up future books. That being said, I felt like they had a purpose and place in this story whereas in the previous books, they didn’t always.

Elle and Archer are both absolute delights. I loved reading about their time together. In their own ways, they are stubborn people but it was fun seeing them fall for one another in this book. They are definitely my favorite couple in the series so far.

Well, so far, this has been my favorite in the series. I loved the characters of Archer and Elle, with all their prickly character flaws included.
The supporting characters who are the group of friends in this series really add to the likability of these books.
Can't wait for Spence's story next!
This is an entertaining contemporary romance series.
