What can you do with “An A-Z of 1001 Field Names: And their interpretations”? A lot! And this is what this book is really about. It is about giving you a lot in terms of substance, meaning, and of making sense of the world around you.

If anything, it is an evidence-based resource that has been derived from the author’s comprehensive etymological research. The interpretation of field-names hails only from numerous credible sources and studies conducted over the years in relation to field study. In the same way, it can be used in the discourse of history as well as a viable supplement in the conduct of research studies. What you will also come to like is its transparency in stating the limitations of the book as to what it covers and what it doesn’t.

By the time you have reached the end, your critical thinking skills would have already been harnessed - to be used for future intellectual endeavors.

All-inclusive, specialized, extensive - a genuine wealth of information.

Peter Spackman’s “An A-Z of 1001 Field Names: And their interpretations” allows you to grow a wider perspective about the great outdoors. It is something entirely different that it will appeal to your reading senses and push to turn every page. However, Spackman did not only share his technical knowledge here but his very life in this amazing adventure for a book. That is because more than anything, it is an immersion into his very world and how he appreciates nature as well as the healing that walking in nature provides.
It is his invitation to you to get out of your comfort zone because the world of fields is more than worth going out there. At the same time, it brings you a sense of serenity and to some places you’ve never been. You will never go wrong picking up this book. You should not miss it for anything.

If you are looking for something unique yet super duper interesting, this could be the book for you. I mean it is not every day that you will encounter a complete guide to field names, right?

From one-word field names like “Sands” to multiple word combinations like “Little State Field”, “Further Chatter Leys”, or “Barn Close Burgess” – it just keeps getting better each time. You know how exciting it is choosing a name for your baby? Well, field-names are a next-level of that thrill and excitement. The author, Peter G. Spackman, breaks down the field name for you into single-word components and then offers a number of possible meanings so you can get the best possible interpretation.

What really caught my attention though is the creativity by which field-names were created – from the obvious, to the weird, and the curious. Never a dull moment here!

If you think, you’ve seen it all, think again! This book by Spackman is your access to a fresh and different perspective that you would have never thought actually exists. It affords you the opportunity to refresh your usual perspective and gives you the chance to appreciate what is in front of you, even the little things that you used to ignore. And yes, we are talking about fields and field-names.

It is bound to make learning easier for you by creating a likelihood of what a particular field name means and how it has developed over the years.
I saw sources as early as the Anno Domini, Christian era; the 1900s; up to the more recent years.

What I love about it the most though is that it leaves something for you to figure out as well so you are not just a passive reader but a highly-engaged one.

Needless to say, this is one of those exceptional, once-in-a-lifetime offerings that you should definitely explore in this lifetime. It is that kind which satisfies your curiosity and at the same provides the answers and details about each and every field name listed here. Luckily, it is in book form so you can go back to it easily. There’s a thousand and one field name here, so yeah, you have to get the book to enjoy all of it. I think that what you get is the birds’ eye view of every field-name and its evolution over the years that have passed.

I just found this gem of a book! And for me, it is art and history collide. As I traversed each page, it took me back in time - to the medieval times with its mysterious charm and appeal. For me personally, the field-names are what’s adding to the color and flavor of each barn, corner, hill, or border. It gave me a deep understanding of fields and why they are named as such – in a beautiful way that I would have never achieved on my own. In addition, Spackman’s photography proves to supplement the reader’s imagination with the actual photos and images. He does have a good eye and is great in leading the expedition of the various fields.

An A-Z of 1001 Field Names: And their interpretations is highly commended and recommended!

You will never be the same after you have experienced this book. To be honest, before all this, I didn’t care much about fields or their names. I felt like, if I ever pass by one, I will simply enjoy the view and that’s all there is to it.

But, no, Peter Spackman has other things in mind. This will invite you to take a pause from whatever you are doing, and as the popular saying goes – “smell the flowers”. In this particular case though, it is about seeing the vast expanse of land, meadows, nooks, and corners – really see them for what they are. Once you get the hang of the field names and their meanings or historical background, you begin to appreciate them more. It is beauty unlocked!

Road after road or field after field, nothing but pure delight!

Of course, there are places that I have never been yet and Peter Spackman’s
“An A-Z of 1001 Field Names: And their interpretations” took me there! Like literally! As a matter of fact, it is my first time to encounter field-names and yes, I am glad I did! I appreciate it that it does not force anything on you but allow you space to explore varying interpretations and the possibilities that go with them. I did not finish everything in one sitting because there is a lot here. But this makes it truly worthwhile as they have not been haphazardly done and instead, they have been meticulously researched.

Once you are done with all the field names, you can expect to be a more learned and substantial individual.

I am one of those ladies whose curiosity is innate and almost insatiable at times. I always like to find out about things that are new and interesting. I can’t move on unless I am able to satisfy my curiosity. So yeah, imagine my delight when I came across this A-Z of 1001 Field Names! The curious cat in me immediately got hold of the book and the rest was history. Like, I enjoyed the travel through time because I got to dissect the field names and the history behind the labels. I got to study and examine the origin of words and the way in which their meanings have changed over the decades.

I don’t know with you but this been an enjoyable reading experience especially when paired with some coffee and desserts!

I was traveling to the UK for the first time so I did some research. This got me asking, what is this book about? Obviously, I have not heard of field names for that matter.

But wow, from the fields, to the rivers, the deer parks and the countryside, this is a joy for travelers and tourists like myself. I felt like it made me have this undeniable connection to the places and the fields.

I learned that a field name is sometimes tied to a unique feature of the field or its shape and size. But mind you, I did not only learn but it made my visit extra meaningful. I can almost guarantee your satisfaction of the whole resource from start to finish. Travelers and tourists alike are sure to highly benefit from this!

Whether you have gotten into the study of field-names in the past or a newbie on the subject, Peter G. Spackman’s “An A-Z of 1001 Field Names: And their interpretations” is nothing short of a treasure trove. This can include historians and researchers as individuals and the local or international community as a whole. I realized that this book can prove to have a huge impact even today
In my case, I got to be familiarized with common field-names such as “close”, “furlong”, “common”, or “ground” and what they could possibly mean or imply
I almost booked a flight, and maybe soon I will. Who knows! The author’s invitation to “get out into the field” did get into me.

This is one of my most interesting finds ever!

Peter Spackman has an eye for what is beautiful and his enchanting photographs of the fields speak for it. I think that I got to know him well through this book and I see him as someone who has the heart of a child as evident in his joy and meticulousness in doing the research for each and every field name. Interestingly enough, Spackman has the mindset of man who always strives to live life to the fullest and that is one of the things that I love about this book.

I am happy that the author shared so much of himself here and that I got the opportunity to walk these fields with him. It is inspiring and the impact it has had on me is priceless.
