While her family and friends struggle to unite, Aubrey Hamil finds herself being crushed by demons of her own, demons that will put her, everything, and everyone she loves directly in the line of fire.
As I was reading this, there was much yelling of the author's name because of ~feels~ brought upon me that I was not expecting, with many comments that I'm going to put this into my unbiased GoodReads review which only made the author laugh, but honestly I adored this book and feel like it is the best one in the series.
The characters: there may be a lot of them and by golly have they done a good job having complicated relationships, but for the third novel in the series, it really does work. There's the right level of gently reminding you who's who and also layering in new characters, strengths, weaknesses, quirks, all that jazz. I especially adored that you see characters going through really serious issues and feeling like they can't get support, but seeing that support is there if they are only willing to take it.
The plot: this was the main reason for the aforementioned yelling but it was amazing in its execution, classic and yet fresh if that makes sense? It's like a good bad film: yeah you can guess what might happen at the very end, but there's still great pleasure in how you get there and what happens along the way and what each element does to the characters, and each character to the elements.
The dialogue: that sarcasm has been turned up way past to 11.
Perhaps this book isn't my cup of tea...sweet that is. If I was to go off into another genre, then maybe it would be. In my opinion, this was a well written book, however it seems as if I would get lost in the characters talking to one another. I believe it the character count was cut in half then maybe I could've stuck with it and completely understood it. I did read the book throughout its entirety. The author has a great imagination and I think leading up the plot was greatly described however, you know what was going to happen in the end. Perhaps a different ending leading into yet another book in this series?
