After frequenting the Florida Keys for decades and bringing them to life in many of his novels, author Tom Winton has now written about his deep love affair with that magical string of islands. But TRIPPING ON COCONUTS is not all sunny memories, calm seas, and smooth sailing. It's also chock full of the author's zany adventures and mishaps--two of which are kindle-clutching life-and-death situations.
With his trademark cinematic writing style, Winton, a longtime Florida resident, will make you feel like you're actually right there beside him during his escapades and exploits. You'll envision every quirk at his funky ten-minute Key West wedding. You'll feel like you, too, are risking your life during a daring rescue attempt in dangerous windblown seas. You'll feel a shotgun being waved at you in the dark of night and learn life lessons in bars from Key Largo all the down way to Key West. But that's just the beginning. So slap on some suntan oil, mix a margarita, and come TRIPPING ON COCONUTS to a fascinating place where memories are made.
Tom Winton has done everything from working on a railroad gang in the Colorado Rockies to driving a taxicab in some of New York’s most dangerous neighborhoods. He has also been a mailman, a salesman, an entrepreneur and more. Since having his first book published in 2011 he’s written eight more, and they’ve all been bestsellers.
Said to be a man who writes with his pen dipped in his soul, Tom has been listed as one of Amazon's Top 100 "Most Popular Authors" in both Literary Fiction and in Mystery, Thriller and Suspense. He has also been named by Wattpad (the world’s largest online reading platform) as one of their most followed authors.
Tripping On Coconuts by Tom Winton is filled with cute stories that are easy to get absorbed into. There is a charm to the authors down home writing style. An endearing quality that is both comforting and amusing. Almost like going back in time with a dear friend. And always a good adventure along the way. There is a tranquil quality to the story that had me reading this in one sitting.
These books are heavily influenced if not dedicated to the authors love of Key West and Ernest Hemingway. There is also a love of family and a way to tell a story without being overly violent or sexualized which I so admire.
Quote ~
"As we came bouncing out of the pass, the open expanse of turquoise water before us was by no means calm. But the waves were a wee bit smaller and not as close together. But that’s not all I noticed. With the outgoing tide still pushing forcefully out to sea and my knuckles just beginning to lose some of the whiteness in them, I saw another boat bobbing up and down about fifty yards in front of us. Instantly, despite my lack of nautical knowledge, I knew something wasn’t right."
Tom Winton Short story. Tripping on Coconuts. A short true story based on Tom Wintons experience. I loved this story and love the way it's told by an excellent author. If your looking for a short true story then this book is for you. 5* 16 June 2016
A fun bunch of stories about the author’s time in the Florida keys. The stories are sometimes funny and sometimes hair raising but they are a must for those of us who love the keys and dream of making them home. Well written and interesting they are a must read for every Jimmy Buffet beach bum!
