Nothing about me is normal…
…but what exactly is ‘normal’? Just because I have two dads and no mom, my name is Elliot Marcus Smith even though I’m a girl, and I was born from a test tube…
Does that mean I’m ‘abnormal’?
I say no.
But the sudden abilities that have been appearing since I turned eighteen sure do. Wounds are healing quickly, my vision has changed, as has my strength, and my sensitivities to other people’s emotions have become severely heightened. Add all that to the fact that I have been forgetting moments of my day as if they never happened, and it’s obvious that something strange is happening to me.

This is the first book I have read by Genevieve Scholl, and as long as she keeps writing it will certainly not be the last.
I am a lover of all things paranormal, so I had high hopes when I heard about this book, I was not let down. Instead of using a basic paranormal template, Ms. Scholl, took that template and dumped it on it's head. There are so many twists on shifters alone that it was amazing to me.
I love the creation of Elliot(Elli) Marcus Smith, even starting with HER name. The way she was born, the dynamics of her family life, who she is ultimately attracted too.
When you bring in Noah, her parents, and the other cast of characters the story is fast paced and flows smoothly. There was never a time that I was not able to keep up with what was happening or which person was talking.
If you like paranormal and are tired of the same story with different characters, you WANT to read this book. I am certainly hoping to see more from Elli and Noah, and if I had my way I would love to read more from the rest of the team as well.

where to begin? This is a different take on a shifter book, in a wonderful way. It is not full of wild sex and fights like most of them are, but that doesn't mean there is no conflict and tragedy. I love how Eli was conceived and her life story. This is an easy to follow, and fall in love with story that will hit you right in the feels.

I would rate this as a 3.5 star
I received this as an arc. my opinions are my own.
I want to start off by saying how I thought Elli's concept was great! I loved see that someone's opinion about "love is love".
I started having the problems with this book when Noah showed up. Noah is significantly older than her. I feel he eventually takes advantage of a lonely 18 year old who lusts after him. maybe I see this from a mother's point n of view but to have a "neighbor" live close to her and watch her grow up then jumps her bones at 18 isn't exactly "sexy" to me.
I eventually get over it... well kind of...
Noah seems more like just another father for her and less of a mate. always trying to protect her and Elli just listens?! I wouldn't listen if I was out for revenge....
I don't want to spoil anything so I will say that the death of characters is downplayed. meaning that the other characters move on quickly. yes they seem to care but they jump right back to work. I didn't really get to slow down and experience the loss/emotion.
example is only a few hours after someone Elli loves is killed she then gets "threatened " by the team members about how to treat noah (whom is atleast twice her age).
“Don't break his heart,” she warns me, “or you'll have to answer to us.”
saying this to a girl who has just suffered a major loss is severely insensitive.
It really put a bad taste in my mouth.
I wish we would have got more of a history of the team and all their abilities. it became confusing to keep track of them during the fighting scenes since I only just heard their name a few pages ago.
the book felt rushed once we got to the actual figuring stuff out pages.... I wish for more detail and a little bit of a slower pace. it took 100 pages to build up and 20 pages to solve it. (not exact numbers but you get the jist)
I did actually like this book. I'm still not a huge fan of Elli and Noah though....
(I wish they would have entered this whole thing as a friendship then once she gets a little older and working together they finally give in. their whole relationship seems like teenage lust and not a true "mate")
I would rather see Elli as an independent women trying to figure herself out before getting involved with a much older guy who now seems like he controls her.
the description of the change is a breath of fresh air for me. it's unique and I loved it.

It feels like I'm being turned inside out, revealing the other creature residing beneath my skin. My bone structure doesn't change, and my organs don't move, but what does happen hurts just as much. Like a performer in a costume, my human body is encased within the animal, compressed and bent to fit."
there were some laugh out loud parts of this book “She leaves glitter everywhere she goes. I swear, it's worse than cat hair.”
all in all there were a few flaws to this book and while they didn't work for me they might work for you. it's worth a read.

This is a stand-alone paranormal May/December romance. I hope Ms. Scholl expands it into a series. I’d love to learn more about the rest of the team.
Elli has a lot of flaws, but that’s what makes her real. Real people are deeply flawed, if they’ve lived beyond the lines. While there is safety within the boundaries, there is adventure when you go outside the accepted perimeters.
I really enjoyed the unique circumstances of Elli’s birth and her beyond-the-common parents. Since my own preference is for older gentlemen and always has been, I felt great empathy for her choice in day-dream fodder. I was very happy for her when she realized dream attraction was reciprocated. Noah is the stuff of any healthy girl’s dreams, gorgeous, intelligent, and kind. Little does Elli know, but he’s known what she is to him for a very long time (in the manner of Jake and Renesmee).
The circumstances of Elli’s birth are science fiction, but believable. Add in a dash of paranormal miasma and the real adventure begins. Let me tell you, it was an edge of my seat, hit the ground running adventure!

I am not normally a huge fan of paranormal books - but I LOVED this one!!!
The Shift has a bit of sci-fi, mystery, romance, and paranormal rolled up into one entertaining story!! I LOVED learning about the creation of Elli. This story line was imaginative, creative, full of suspense and so much more!! I found myself not wanting to put my kindle down when it came time to go to work ;-)
The love story between Ellie and Noah is so well written. It is clean, honest, and refreshing. You feel instantly the love that these 2 have for each other.
There is a bit of drama in this book. Genevieve Scholl has done an AMAZING job of keeping her readers invested in the story and dying to know what comes next!!
I highly recommend this book and you don't have to be a fan of paranormal books to be able to get into this one. This book is fast moving and pulls you in from the very beginning. Very well Ms. Scholl. I really hope to hear/read more from these characters :-D

I enjoyed this new take on paranormal romance. without getting too much into the plot (i hate spoilers) The Shift is part coming-of-age, part paranormal romance, part secret agent/ action story. I loved that she incorporated alternative family styles that have had so much attention in the news lately. This was a good way to spend a day! I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I'm giving this three stars but I really want to give it three and a half, maybe three and three quarters. It starts a little slow for me but once we get past her leaving home it starts taking off. I love the different take on an old familiar story. It promises to offer entertaining sequels and I'm looking forward to reading them.

Wow. The Shift by Genevieve Scholl is amazing! I loved this book so much. I really hope Genevieve writes another story about these characters! I'd absolutely love to see what happens next to them. Definitely a must read!

Was a different and refreshing twist
Not knowing or understanding who and what you truly are can be very disconcerting. Then to realize you are in love with someone old enough to be your father, makes her nags even weirder for you.
How do you deal with all the phobias you have and all the uncertainty?
Then find out your favorite books are not so unrealistic as you thought. Wow
Genevieve did an amazing job with this and even though many may have issues with all of Elli’s flaws and quirks they truly made the story was it is.....amazing.
