Okay, wow! This wasn't what I was expecting, but it was something that I really liked.
This is a coming of age story, and a ghost story, and a love story, all wrapped in a mystery that won't be solved in this book.
I enjoyed the bits of Romani culture and I liked the characters. I like the fairy-tale kind of origin story of Alexei and Nikolai, the mystery that surrounds them, and the almost prophecy about Alexei and his role on Nikolai's life.
The shadow of incest was a bit disturbing, and yes, I know there is no real proof that they are brothers, but the thing is, they are. They were raised like brothers, they grew up as brothers and they see each other as brothers. But it's not disturbing enough as to keep me from reading the next book, so, that's what I'm going to do :P
