When life in the fast lane threatens to implode …

Melanie Hunt’s job working for the Delta racing team means she is constantly rubbing shoulders with Formula One superstars in glamorous locations like Monte Carlo. But she has already learned that keeping a professional distance is crucial if she doesn’t want to get hurt.

New Delta team driver Aiden Foster lives his life like he drives his cars – fast and hard. But, no matter how successful he is, it seems he always falls short of his championship-winning father’s legacy. If he could just stay focused, he could finally make that win.

Resolve begins to slip as Melanie and Aiden find themselves drawn to each other –with nowhere to hide as racing season begins. But when a troubled young boy goes missing, everything is thrown into turmoil, including Aiden’s championship dream.

I was born in Wallingford, England and have spent most of my life living in a village outside Windsor. A former pharmacist, former pharmaceutical industry employee I’m now a self-employed medical writer who also loves to write romance. Some days a racing heart is a medical condition, others it’s the reaction to a hunky hero…

I’ve two teenage boys and a husband who asks every Valentine’s Day whether he has to bother buying a card again this year (yes, he does) so the romance in my life is all in my head. Then again, my husband’s unstinting support of my career change goes to prove that love isn't always about hearts and flowers - and heroes can come in many disguises

I should probably mention before I get into the review proper that I am a huge romance book fan in addition to being a massive Formula 1 fan, and so to have them combined in the way they have in this book has been brilliant for me.

This is one those books that really resonated with me on a few levels, partly due to my love of Formula 1 and sexy racing drivers are always a bonus, partly due to trying to move into a publicity role myself, so could understand elements of Melanie's job, and also because like Aiden I don't have the best of relationships with my mother.

In fact its the range of depth to Aiden's personality that really impressed me, for the press he is charming, giving light hearted answers, but in private he is a loving man, who is finding himself very attracted to Melanie, his press officer. His family issues that he jokes about on the surface run deeper than you may expect but as he gets to know Mel more, you can get the feel of his life.

The level of realism in this story from the racing point of view, is brilliant, at a guess I would say based on various references as an amalgam of elements from the 2013-15 seasons, since there was a reference to the quieter engines, and the tracks were mention in all their glory, as well as the destinations, even if you don't really get to see those, as its not really a holiday.

Melanie has been burnt before by a relationship with a driver so she is determined to hold Aidan at arm's length, while he is attempting to win a world championship, and hopefully start to lessen the comparisons between his and his father's racing careers.

There is a clear chemistry between Melanie and Aiden which is great to see and read about, given at one point they seem to want to drive each other crazy. And their feelings deepen when Aiden gets some phone calls that will produce more distractions in this critical season for him.

I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of Before You, and found it to be a fast adrenalin filled story that any F1 fan would love. Even if you aren't keen on motor sport, there is still plenty of great story in this book, to keep you entertained. This is the second book I have read by this author and is definitely my favourite by far, will definitely have to look out for more future releases by Kathryn Freeman.

Thank you to Choc Lit and Netgalley for this review copy. This was my honest opinion.

I received a copy of this via the publishers, Choc Lit, and NetGalley in return for a fair and honest review.

Makes such a nice change to read a book set in a different setting to the norm and this was a treat from start to finish!

The world of F1 racing has always been a male dominated sport, something Melanie Hunt knows too well as a female press officer and having to deal with the egos and attitudes of all those involved in the sport. But she's learnt to stand up for herself and always does her best not to get involved. But there seems to be something different with the new Delta team driver, Aiden Foster, and she soon struggles to separate business from pleasure.

Aiden has always been around F1 as his father was a World Champion so he has always had to live up to the comparisons, so he's built up a hard exterior to deal with the constant attention and he seems to love to play up to his image as a playboy and joker. But you also get the impression that there is more to him than meets the eye and maybe this 'jack the lad' exterior is hiding some hidden feelings.

I loved the banter in this book between Aiden and Mel. She doesn't seem to behave like a lot of the females he encounters as the races travel round the world and he seems to have met his match with Mel, and it becomes so obvious that they are meant to be together, especially as they have sadness in their past that seems to bring them together. But they are both scared of taking things further and there always seems to be something in the way or their own fears that stop them fully admitting to themselves how they really feel

Aiden is aware of letting things distract him from his focus of winning races, and this is really put to the test when family problems arise and once again Mel seems to be there to make him see what is important in his life and get past the reputation that he has built up over the years.

Was lucky enough to read the manuscript for this way back in 2014 as part of the Choc Lit Tasting Panel, and I enjoyed it immensely back then so really pleased with the final product!

Really loved reading this book as it seemed to have everything from romance, to overcoming the past and to the thrill of life on the F1 scene. Enjoyed every single page!!

This book is well written and the author has done a lot of research on the motor racing circuit. I enjoyed the love story of press officer Mel and racing driver Aiden, as they toured the world. The attraction to each other was very obvious. Aiden has a troubled past and is trying to live up to his father's racing history. Mel has no confidence in herself after previously being ditched by another racing driver. Hopefully with the help of each other they can overcome the past and have a lasting relationship.

aiden has verstappen level trauma with the playboy persona of early 2000s drivers and his only redeeming quality was his brother, which says a lot about his character

Aiden Foster, F1 driver and son of five times world champion Sebastian has just joined his father’s old team Delta. Trying to live up to his dead father’s image and a childhood which saw him abandoned by both parents, he’s carrying a lot of emotional baggage as well as a well-earned reputation with women.
Press Officer Melanie Hunt still misses her parents, killed in a car crash when she was eighteen. Attracted to this drop dead gorgeous addition to the Delta team, she is none too impressed with his nocturnal antics involving a blonde journalist, especially when it impacts on his next race. Melanie senses that Aiden is far more complex than the confident, easy going individual who has all the right answers for the press. And when he gets a phone call which lands him with unexpected non-driving responsibilities she starts to learn about the real Aiden Foster.
Well written with a great Choc Lit hero it was a refreshingly different story, caught up in the glamorous world of motor racing. Melanie was a strong character, still trying to address issues left over from her parents’ death. With the aid of Aiden’s half-brother Tom, the pair eventually get together but it’s still a bit of a bumpy ride before we reach the end. This is the first book of Kathryn’s that I’ve read and I definitely would like to read more…especially if they include the same kind of hot heroes as Aiden.

This was my first book by Kathryn Freeman and she made me ‘interested’ in the Formula One scene. It features sexy drivers and romance- thrills a minute. Melanie and Aiden are attracted to each other. Melanie is one of the press officers and Aiden is a new driver on the scene. It gives an insight into the glitzy but gritty racing circuit.
The characters were well fleshed out and the setting very unusual for me- which made for an entertaining read. It was another great Choc Lit read.
I finished this on my train home from Sheffield and it made a very nice travel companion lost in the world of romance and racing drivers!
With many thanks to Net Galley.

I pre-ordered this book back in May and as it happened the moment I chose to read it coincided with the Formula One summer break, which was perfect timing as Before You is a contemporary romance set in the F1 world and reading this book was a great way to spend a weekend sadly lacking in real-life F1 race action.

I really loved this book. It had all the components of a brilliant romance novel for me – characters you could truly believe in, realistic conflict, idealistic locations and a romance you cannot help but root for. And yes, fictional F1 driver Aiden Foster was a little bit dreamy, which helped, and I did fall for him a bit more than is probably normal whilst reading this book..! I loved the way his character was crafted and despite getting to know more than just the media representation of an actual F1 driver is near impossible in reality, I found his story and his background came across very realistically and I could easily picture him and imagine him racing alongside my favourite real-life drivers (Button, Alonso and Vettel, I’m looking at you…) I was that involved in the story I’ll probably be a bit disappointed once the F1 returns and there is no Aiden in sight…

Mel is press officer for the Delta F1 team. The media are really interested in new driver Aiden Foster because his dad, who died during a race when Aiden was a child, was extremely successful, winning lots of titles, something Aiden has yet to emulate. Mel notices that Aiden holds back a lot in his interviews, never opening up in them. But Aiden finds it easy to be honest with Mel and there’s a connection there. Things happen that I really want to talk about but can’t! But I was so engrossed in this book and really enjoyed watching everything play out.

I really liked the premise to this story. I liked how both characters had an equal share of conflicted emotions and things from their past coming back to haunt them. This is a bit different to many other romance novels where the guy doesn’t do relationships or the woman is simply too scared of getting hurt. Though Aiden wasn’t exactly known for his relationships and Mel had been hurt in a relationship before, this didn’t really define either character – they were multi-layered with so much more to them than that. I really, almost instantly, liked both Mel and Aiden and the further I got into the story, the more I liked them.

My favourite bit about this book was the way Kathryn represents life on the F1 circuit. Though you don’t need to be a fan of the motorsport to enjoy this book, it’s doubly good if you’re a fan of Formula One because Kathryn makes you feel like you’re there for every single race. The descriptions of the location for each individual race were divine, as well as all the mentions of tyres and team radio and pit stops etc. The author builds the perfect picture of a race weekend and all the pressure and emotion that comes with them for everybody involved.

Before You was a warm and hugely satisfying novel which I didn’t want to see come to an end. It’s much more than your typical romance novel with the various locations and the added atmosphere of the F1. It’s a current and extremely refreshing read and I’m definitely excited to read more from this author in future.

God this book made me more furious the more I read.

FMC is self deprecating and it's not cute. She has a really cool job, works hard, but seems to be a bit too much 'not like other girls'... girl please.

MMC has known her a few weeks and criticised her style saying she dresses like a nun (v douche-y) and her taste in men because she dated a previous driver who treated her poorly.
They also have one of the worst sexual encounters ever; they have minimal chemistry, no foreplay and it's over in a few minutes after he'd shoved it in. Then she cries because she doesn't normally do this - the second hand embarrassment is real.

I'm not sure why the author made the choice to have the characters not use swear words when she's used phrases where it would make sense. It made the writing feel juvenile and took me out of the story. For example "what the heck is going on", "answer the flaming question", "...the sort that doesn't give a flying fig...". These would've all been absolutely fine without substitute curse words.

For my own sanity, I had to stop.

Well this was pretty cute. I liked that the relationship between Mel and Aiden flowed at a natural pace. And the F1 theme was balanced really well. It was interesting but never overbearing.

Aiden was a more complex character than we often see for a 'hero'. He wasn't relying only on good looks and charm. Mel was ok but she did cry too much and read way too much into insignificant things. But overall I enjoyed the multi-layered story and finished the book quickly.

A well written book, Both Aiden and Mel were struggling with insecurities from their past but their attraction to each other and the chemistry between them was obvious. Mel was frustrating at times but overall a good read.

Kinda boring, kinda predictable, a lot of annoying characters.
The route of the book is basically; everybody loves each other from day 1, main girl is insecure, more love, more insecurities, lots of crying. Done.

No more by this author. Not really sure why I finished. Bit in a reading slump.

Is this an F1 Romance? No it’s a romance with a sprinkle of the circus that is F1.

The book isn’t bad but a few too many cliches for me.

Melanie, or Mel, has been on her own since she was 18 years old. Due to a tragic accident she became an orphan. Mel worked hard to get her degree and now works for the Delta racing team. As a PR-worker she is responsible for the interviews and the press releases of their drivers Stefano and Aiden. Mel is very close to Frank, who has been employed by Delta for a very long time, and his wife Nancy. Mel sees them as her surrogate parents.

Aiden has been racing since six years, but has yet to win a title. This year he is willing to do everything in his power to win the World Championship. Aiden's father was one of the biggest racers of his time and won five championships. During his interviews Aiden always gets a lot of questions about his father. He answers them in the best possible way or tries to change the subject. Aiden believes that nobody wants to hear the truth about how he really feels. Aiden's father was a selfish person and never took any interest in his son.

Mel has been burned by love in the past. She once dated a Formula One driver, who turned out to be cheating on her and this really broke her heart. Since that time Mel stopped dressing up. She only chooses comfortable clothes and doesn't stand out in a crowd. Mel can't keep her eyes off of Aiden. He is everything she is determined to stay away from. However, when Aiden lets his guard down and shows Mel his real self, will she be able to keep her walls up?

Aiden puts on a good show as the relaxed race driver with a constant flow of new women on his arm. In private he is very different. Aiden didn't have a happy childhood. His father was never around and his mother sent Aiden to boarding school, so she could follow his father everywhere he went. Ever since his father died in a car crash during a race Aiden's mother has been looking for the next rich guy to marry. Aiden never felt loved or cherished. Now his younger brother is in need of the same things Aiden never had. Their mother is on an extended holiday with her new boyfriend, so it is up to Aiden to step in.

Mel is good at her job and she is fiercely loyal towards the people she loves. She is a tough and strong woman. The way she handled loosing her parents shows what a remarkable person she is. At work Mel is surrounded by men, but she fits in perfectly. With her humor and no-nonsense attitude everyone accepts her immediately. Mel is a person who will go all the way when she makes a choice with her heart. I was hoping for her to find the courage to let herself be loved again.

Aiden has the image of being a playboy and he is confused when Mel sees right through his façade. He has been longing for someone to love, someone who will love him for who he is. Even thought it's hard for him to open up about the past Aiden is honest with Mel from the start about what he's feeling for her. The way he takes care of his brother also shows how kind and caring he actually is. Aiden is a fantastic guy who holds up so well under pressure. He truly deserves someone good like Mel.

Before You has a fantastic and original setting, which makes the story refreshing and unique. I loved reading more about the Formula One racing and found out that this sports can also be very interesting for women. Kathryn Freeman made her story exciting and fun to read. There was never a dull moment and the family dynamics made this book extra special. If I could hand out a trophy for Before You I would definitely give it a first place title.

Melanie’s been burned before and she’s not looking for a repeat performance. Her job dealing with publicity for the Delta racing team puts her in close contact with some of the hottest, most intense and death defying, danger loving men around. And while the newest team driver might be charming, sexy and pull on her emotions a bit – she’s not going down that road with another driver ever again.

Aiden is chasing an elusive dream. He needs a Formula One Championship. He’s lived in the shadow of his legendary father his entire racing career and if he is to ever get out from under that legacy he has to focus and win. Yet it seems Fate has other plans.

Even though it’s the last thing she wants to do, Melanie finds herself pulled into Aiden’s life. She really doesn’t want to get to know the man behind the public face, the one who makes jokes at his own expense, the one with the look in his eye that says all is far from fine. But the attraction is there and it won’t be denied much longer – hard to hide from anyone in the enclosed world of a racing team during the season.

Aiden has long fought issues and when a young boy is tossed carelessly into his world, Aiden has to make decisions – really hard decisions. The kind that could give him everything he ever wanted off the track, but cost him everything he’s fought for on the track.

Before You is such a well researched, well defined story, one that will put you right in the middle of a Formula One racing team and you’d best hold on tight. Now, full disclosure here, I am a NASCAR girl – born, bred and probably will be until my dying day – but I’m not a racing snob, I’ve enjoyed Formula One very much over the years. Each sport has its own unique intensity and draw. Truth is if it has four wheels, an engine and runs around an oval or a winding road – I’ll watch it and love every adrenaline filled moment. I’ve followed many racing dynasties over the years, and there is nothing like watching a legend’s son (or daughter) move up the ranks getting nearer to dad every race.

Kathryn Freeman created a familiar world and added to it. Aiden is fighting demons and rarely wins against the memories and the legacy that he can never match. His mother is a piece of crap who shouldn’t be allowed to have children – and she’s not done with her shenanigans. With Melanie he has something different to fight for, something that will outlast any championship – he has a woman who would stand at his side through thick and thin. While there were moments when I wanted to shake a bit of sense into each of them, their story is rich in emotions, vivid in the depiction of the craziness of a racing team and heartwarming in showing two people what truly matters in life. Their love.

An intense, believable glimpse into a world most of us will never see, Before You is one of those stories that will draw you in and have you wrapped up tight in the characters’ lives. This is one of those stories that should be on your reading list.

Before You, (Choc Lit),  Kathryn Freeman

Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews

Genre:  Romance,

I’ve read and enjoyed several books from Choc Lit now, it seems what they publish almost always suits what I want to read – that makes choosing so much easier :-) This one proved a hit too.

Mel was a great lead – I really liked her. She’d been through a lot with her parents both dying when she was just 18, she’d not got any other family, but instead of curling up and giving in she pulled herself through and has been working as PR rep for Delta. After dating a top racing driver and finding he was a jerk, catching him cheating on her, she’s vowed to stay well away from any in future. Her heart won’t stand the stress.
Then she meets Aiden when he comes to Delta and – well, he’s all she’s come to expect from racing drivers but still she can’t help being attracted.

Aiden is used to just instant gratification – the ladies throw themselves at him, he doesn’t have to do anything, but when he meets Mel somehow she’s different. She makes it clear she’s not interested, that he’s just a manwhore, typical of the racing set, and it makes him  look at himself. He doesn’t like the image Mel has of him, and he’s intrigued by her more and more as they have contact through work. Of course sooner or later things go bang and when they get together its sensational. He wants more but Mel announces it was a mistake and she just wants to be friends. She’s got to him now though and he tries hard to show her he’s changed.

Of course he has issues too, living up to his world famous racing driver father, and now he’s racing for the same team the hype and questions are endless. The view the media and public have of their relationship though isn’t the real one. He died when Aiden was very young and his treatment and basic neglect of Aiden left him feeling angry at him, but he works hard at keeping his true feelings hidden while relating the usual spiel about their relationship. It’s all pressure in a year he doesn’t need it and then...well, something further happens that adds to that pressure, that causes problems but also bring him and Mel closer. Can he break through and persuade her that they can be together, can he still win the championship or will it all collapse.

Overall its a fun romance, enough drama and plots to kkeep me reading and intersted roght to the end. Felt very real, I know nothing about racing but was “there” with them, and enjoyed that Aiden wasn't automatically the winner in each race, that things went wrong, he made mistakes, that Mel struggled with her feelings for him fighting the conflict of her vow to keep away from racing drivers, especially those who play the field so openly as he does. I like to feel there's a chance they won't make it togheher even though I know they will come through ;-)

Stars: Five, a real fun read.

You don't have to be a Formula One fan to enjoy Before You, but if you're glued to the tv when there's a race on then you're going to absolutely love this. Needless to say, with my love of F1, I whizzed through it like Jenson Button in a half-decent car. Kathryn Freeman has certainly done her homework; it was impeccably researched without getting too involved for non-racing fans. In fact the racing/romance story was as well balanced as Lewis Hamilton's Mercedes. I have to give a special mention to the gorgeous cover with a lovely shot of the famous Fairmont Hairpin in Monte Carlo.

Mel Hunt (homage to the great James Hunt, perhaps?) is a press officer for the Delta racing team. She has been there, done that and shrunk the t-shirt when it comes to dating a Formula One driver after a heartbreaking relationship with Viper driver Carlos Ferrer, a Spaniard with an eye for the ladies. Aiden Foster is new to the Delta team; he has a lot to live up to as he is the son of five times World Champion, Seb Foster. Aiden barely remembers his dad as Seb Foster crashed and lost his life at the Monaco Grand Prix almost twenty years ago, when Aiden was just ten years old. Now Aiden is driving for his dad's old team and he wants to win the Championship as well as the girl. Aiden and Mel have an obvious attraction right from the start but Mel doesn't want to get her heart broken again and Aiden has a playboy image to live up to. The pages positively crackle with all the sexual tension of the will they/won't they storyline.

Before You has to be the fastest-paced romance novel I have ever read. The excitement of the races and the buzz of the track, coupled with the many misunderstandings and undeniable attraction between Mel and Aiden, ensures that the story hurtles along at lightning speed. No sooner had the five red lights gone out than the chequered flag was being waved and the Championship was decided. Who will end up on the top step of the podium?

I absolutely loved Before You; it's a fabulous romance set over the course of a whole Formula One season. The insecurities of both Mel and Aiden added another dimension to the story, although I'm not sure that I could have forgiven Mel's insecurity when it put a damper on the end of season party. It just shows that sometimes things are not as they appear but oh, how we do love to jump to conclusions.

I would personally like to thank Kathryn Freeman for writing such an excellent story for us female racing fans. I'm the first person to jump up and down when incorrect terms are used when talking about my beloved sport, so for Kathryn Freeman to not get a single technical term out of place whilst still holding the attention of non-racing fans is no mean feat. An exceptional story in a unique setting, Before You has certainly earned its place on the top step of my podium.

When I read Before You was set in the world of Formula 1 I was so head over heels to read it! Since Chasing Daisy (by Paige Toon) I was looking for similar stories. I LOVE Formula 1. I am a fan of motorsport since I was a little kid. So I was hopeful this novel would give some insight to the world of Formula One and it does, brilliantly, and I loved it.

From Brazil to Italy, from Melbourne to Monte Carlo, life passes in a dizzying whirlwind. But nothing - and no one - can stop Melanie from falling again...this time for a man who is prepared to risk his life, and his heart, for the sake of speed, danger and ultimate success.

Kathryn Freeman is a great story teller. I love the way she writes. When I'm read her book I immediately feel at ease. It makes me want to read on and on and I don't want to stop. The flow of the book was really upbeat, really good pace, not dull and draggy. I loved how Kathryn describes city after city, which I found really real and had to refrain myself from packing my luggage and off to the airport to follow the rush of adrenalin Formula 1 has to offer!

One of the main (and best) features of this book is the glamorous destinations along the way during the Grand Prix season. Australia. Monte Carlo. Malaysia. Singapore. Bahrain. China. Sao Paolo. Having been to a few of the locations myself it is really easy to imagine being back there which just confirms how well Kathryn Freeman has written them. It was great to read all the behind the scenes action from the Formula 1 world, when I think of Formula 1. This made me think of all the people behind all of that, those who make the whole thing possible. I was really glad I received this book and had the chance to read what Kathryn has to offer.

I loved how down-to-earth and humble Melanie was, she's a real chick lit heroine, if you ask me. I warmed up to this lovely heroine immediately. Aiden was an interesting character too. He is struggling with the situation that he is compared to his father, 5 times F1World Champion, who died when he was really young. It was great to see how he changed over the course of the book. I liked the interaction between Aiden and his step brother, for me that was the biggest strength of the story.

I liked reading every page and think this is a perfect romantic book for the summer. This book has it all, it's cheerful, it's warm, it's special, it's loving, it's touching and it's sweet and racing, a fantastic combination that works really well. I NEED MORE BOOKS LIKE THIS.

Car drivers are a brand with an image to be maintained. Aiden Foster is racing for the same team, Delta, as his father Sebastian who died in a crash. People expect hi mto be as good as his father who won the World Championship 5 times. And Aiden is struggling to live up to the expectations. Melanie Hunt is the Delta press officer and has a crush on Aiden. She has a way of seeing past the facade, right into the core of a person. But Aiden can’t get distracted if he ever wants to win a World Championship. When a young boy comes stirring up things for Aiden as well, he has to find a way to keep focussed. It was the first time I read a book by this author. It’s not the kind of story I usually read. I am more into the ‘quest fort he hidden relic’ kind of story. But this romantic story was a great change and I absolutely loved it. I would love to read another book by this author some time in the future. Kathryn Freeman gives us a good view into the racing world. From practice sessions to familiarise with the track to getting cars ready for qualifying. The racing is fast paced action, and you live through every emotion Aiden goes through when he’s driving. You are really rooting for him. There are some time jumps in the story. No major ones but just a week or a bit more. This gives the story a quicker pace and makes you want to read on. It is more than just a book about a car driver and racing on the track. Freeman explains what is going on behind the scenes, tells about the racing engineer and press officer. Being a journalist myself, it was an interesting take on the story because that is not the thing we see when we watch a race on television. It was refreshing to see a woman around the racing track keeping up with the guys. The cat and mouse. Will I? Won’t I? I love that kind of thing. A strong woman in a story without making it look like it has been written to make her strong for the sake of it. The book has 30+ chapters and is just over 300 pages. Which means about 10 pages a chapter. That’s the kind of layout I like. It’s easy to stop reading when you are on a train and need to get off. Actually it’s the ideal chapter lenght, I love that. I would definitely pick up another book by Freeman and give this one 4*/5

I give this book 5/5 stars. Let me tell you why.

This book follows the story of Melanie Hunt, a press officer for one of the F1's team Delta, She has to deal with nosy journalists and all but she finds herself pulled out of her comfort zone when the newest racer of the team, Aiden Foster, son of F1 Legend, Seb Foster, joins. Both Melanie and Aiden have been through their own amount of bad things but they somehow end up being exactly what eachother need.

I must say I am really surprised of how this book went out. As a F1 fan myself, I kinda knew a bit of the racer talk, but instead of having like loads of of technicalities (and I think it still was the fair amount, so maybe if someone not very familiar with it reads the book, they wouldn't feel it overwhelming) you find yourself into the races, travelling all around the world with the Delta team, wanting them to win but most of all, see Mel and Aiden work it out.

I think both of them are really well written, there were sometimes where I wanted to slap Mel so she could pull her stuff together, but it was real as well, when you've been hurt once, you don't actually want to venture again in a relationship. Aiden, on the other hand, I don't think I could be in his shoes, constantly compared to his father and what he did as a F1 driver.

The rest of characters, like some Delta crew members, Mel's best friend and Tom, Aiden's little brother are fantastic companions. There is enough amount of angst and enough amount of laughs and I think this book is a good choice if you want a perfect balance.

SO. MUCH. LOVE!

Before You was everything I hoped for, and so much more. Sexy, funny, romantic and glamorous, I devoured Aiden and Mel’s story, and was sad to leave it behind as I turned the last page.

I don’t know a huge amount about Formula One, but that didn’t affect my enjoyment of the book at all – Kathryn Freeman did a fantastic job at setting the scene, introducing us to the characters, the team at Delta, and the jobs they all had to do in a way that made it exciting to read; I understood a little more about how racing works as a competitive sport, and became excited to see Aiden back behind the wheel, sitting on the edge of my seat as he raced.

I adored Mel and Aiden’s relationship. Slow-burning to start, but fiery and unstoppable as it progressed, I loved seeing both Mel and Aiden’s thought processes as the relationship heated up, and seeing how the glamorous racing life could come between them. Above all though, I loved young Tom and the family dynamic he brought to the story that brought tears to my eyes and had me smiling. His role in Mel and Aiden’s life and in the progression of their relationship was so beautiful to witness and I loved the scenes where they were all together, just laughing, talking or even fighting. Together they brought out the best in each other, and I loved seeing his innocent, and broken character grow stronger and more impassioned as he enters the racing world.

A gorgeous, exciting romance with family ties weaved throughout, this was a stunning novel that enthralled me from start to finish.

5 Stars!

Melanie has been through a a lot and she is finally getting over a relationship that cut her deep. She is not dating and its not on her radar and she is ready to take her job as a publicists for the best racing team to the max and show the newest racer life can be great with them. Aiden is following in his dad's footsteps or at least thats what everyone keeps asking him. To Aiden he is doing what he loves and enjoying life. When life hands him a bunch of distractions he wonders if he could balance it all and win a championship and find the girl of his dreams or will he loose it all?
This book was all about racing and the lifestyle that seems to follow it. The book was a fun read and keeps you drawn in wanting to know whats going to happen and the craziness thats just around the corner. I loved the chemistry in the book between Mel and Aiden and the love from Frank and Nancy to Melanie. I really enjoyed the bond between Aiden and Tom, the relationships built in this book was and seemed very genuine and it was very enjoyable it truly felt like it was all playing out in front of you and not in a book. This book is so worth the read. The book does contain some adult language so it may not appeal to all readers.

Disclosure: I received this book free of charge from the publisher, but this review consists of my honest opinions, not influenced in any way by the author or publisher

I have a confession - I don't like Formula One. There, I said it. However, I loved this book! I figured if I gave Tom Cruise a chance to win me over to the car side in Days of Thunder (because, hello, Tom Cruise!) then surely I should give this book a chance, especially as I've enjoyed books by this Publisher. Kathryn Freeman, you won me over big time.
Yes there's cars and racing and mechanics. But also the author created brilliant characterisation and a story to keep you hooked.
Melanie Hunt is no pushover in the male dominated world of motor sport. Which is fortunate as she needs to keep her cool with new driver, Aiden. Aiden isn't only chasing a win - he's chasing his demons. Tired of being compared to his father, Aiden plays up to his life in the fast lane reputation and it's Melanie's job to keep him on track.
Melanie makes Aiden face up to his past, his responsibilities and has to avoid getting hurt in the process. Not easy when they find it hard to stay away from each other.
What made this book a winner for me, conflict and emotion aside, was the authors voice. The dialogue is witty and fresh. The characters you will fall in love with. A fab story and an author I want to read more of. Brilliant!

I always jump for joy when a new Choc Lit title appears and, as always, I wasn't disappointed. Kathryn is obviously a lover of F1, as am I, and I loved this book set against a season in the racing calendar.

Poor Melanie is the press officer for Delta Racing and has been hurt by a previous relationship with a driver. But she can't deny her attraction to the handsome and charming Aiden Foster, the new driver with Delta. And fears to get involved because of her past experience.

Aiden is carrying the burden of a father, 5 times F1World Champion, a sad childhood and the resentment that goes with all that. The saying that resentment is like buying poison and then drinking it oneself really applies to him!

But Mel can see through the veneer of his charm and realises he hurts. When he realises this, it in turn attracts Aiden to Mel. They are so tentative around each other, I felt like knocking their heads together! When more problems with Aiden's family rear their ugly heads, Mel is there to help and support. And Tom is one of the best characters I've come across - Kathryn has got him spot on

A Formulae One racing season is not the usual backdrop to a romantic novel, but in Before You, it works perfectly by adding tension, an enormous legacy and seemingly insurmountable barriers both emotionally and physically for Aiden Foster, racing driver, and Melanie Hunt, the Delta Team’s press officer, to overcome if their relationship is to stand a chance.

Both have unknowingly built protective walls around their hearts, and both have to learn how to take them down. Luckily they can learn from each other and the reader is with them every step of the way.

This is a peep behind the curtain of the public image of Formula One, where we get to learn about the nomadic lifestyle of a racing team, where work colleagues become closer than family and all types of tensions run high…and I’m not necessarily talking about who is going to win a race.

I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it to anyone who likes contemporary romance and a peep into a world we rarely get to see.

I received a free ARC from NetGalley for an honest review.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book despite not being a racing fan! The author brought to life a world I knew very little about and drew me in with the exotic locations that were so much a part of the story. An extremely handsome, charming hero with emotional baggage from his difficult childhood, I fell more than a little in love with Aiden. Melanie has sworn off becoming involved with any of the drivers she works with after being humiliated by her ex-boyfriend, another champion driver. But the couple are drawn together by more than their obvious physical attraction when Aiden’s kid brother comes on the scene and their desire to help him becomes a part of their own emotional journey.

Thanks to NetGalley and Choc Lit for this review copy. This was my honest opinion.

Yay! Another summer read to add to your pile if you like romance with a good bit of story attached. Before You by Kathryn Freeman is perfect for reading at the beach or the park or perhaps on your deck or patio with a nice beverage of your choosing.

Melanie Hunt is a publicist with Delta, a formula one racing team. Aiden Foster is their new driver, coming over from another team to join the one his father drove for years earlier. His goal is to finally win a championship; hers is to stay as far away from him as possible since her last romance, which ended with her broken heart, was with a handsome driver and she believes that Aiden is cut from the same cloth.
