Getaway to Murder: A Cozy Mystery in the Mountains (Book 3)
Leo Loams is a sensation. Gentle and loving, with a sharp eccentric air about him, he’s got an army of followers who swear by his book on knowing oneself through psychology. He's also got a multi-million dollar contract from a big four publisher, and a loyal group of devotees who owe him their success and their lives.
Victoria Armstrong believes less in psychology and more in hard work, and she’s glad to cater for Leo’s getaway at the historic Larch Luminary Hotel. Her business needs his business!
All is not what it seems, however, when Leo turns up dead! In the midst of the tragedy, a heavy snow storm hits the mountain. The road is impassable so no one can leave, and the RCMP can't make it in. With tensions mounting and the killer on the loose, Victoria must solve the mystery.
Could it be the bull-like gym owner with his long-burning flame for Leo's secretary? Or maybe it's the seductive real estate agent with his flaring temper and recent business losses. Maybe it's the dreamy secretary herself, with the anger that simmers under her air of helplessness?
But why kill Leo? One of his followers has taken fate into their hands, and as more bodies pile up, it's up to Victoria to figure out who!
A famous Canadian hotel hosts a group of people who gather to meet their old friend and protector. Each one has a story that explains their relationship with this man and the other members of the group. Two murders are committed and Victoria, crime novelist turned caterer, becomes involved. She and her Canadian policeman friend, seek to discover who in that group is the murderer. A strong intense tale with lots of twists and a variety of character portraits. A good read!
A good read. Based on the main human flaw - love of money. The job at the Lodge wasn't her favourite type but her sister more or less bullied her into it and the organiser told her she was the perfect choice. Her first day of the weekend scheme ended with the organiser dead, the other attendees at each others throats and a dead maid. The dead man had gathered a group of hurt souls around him and had ruled them with an iron hand. Then the lawyer of the group was found dead! With a blizzard raging she doesn't expect her favourite law enforcement officer. Now the question is which of the six remaining people is the killer? Can she work it out before an innocent is arrested?
This is a good story, that could have been even better. The characters are fine as they are, but there could be improvement. The plot is fine, but I was very disappointed with the premise and it's conclusion. Granted, I could be quite wrong, so your best bet is to read the story yourself and make your own decision.
I found Liz Turners books and I'm glad I did they are a great easy cozy read I would recommend to any cozy mystery reader it has great characters and great stories a must read and I can't wait till the next book
Getaway To Murder is another great read written by Liz Turner. In this story, Victoria has been commissioned to a catering job at nearby resort for an eccentric customer and his guests. After meeting him to go over his food selections, Victoria heads to the kitchen to visit with the kitchen staff. Within a half hour, her client is seen taking a nosedive out of his window, succumbing to death. Everyone is talking about his suicide, but Victoria, being a crime fiction writer in her life previous to becoming a caterer, has her suspicions and asks the hotel owner to call the RCMP to investigate for murder. Small problem - they are in the mountains and they are experiencing a blizzard. While everyone is cooped up in the hotel with no where to go, Victoria starts asking questions, and even more bodies turn up dead. Eventually, there is a break in the storm and the RCMP arrives and together Corporal Jager and Victoria solve the crimes. This was an easy read, and while there was a lot of death in the story, it is written in such a manner that it is not gory or graphic. I would easily recommend this book to others to read.
I am really enjoying this series. I love the characters and I especially love how things are progressing between Victoria and Randolph. Can't wait to read 4. Disclosure: I received this book free of charge from the publisher. This review is my honest opinion, and is in no way influenced by the author or publisher.
