"If tyranny and oppression come to this land, it will be in the guise of fighting a foreign enemy." - James Madison
There were many that said it would happen. No one listened.
Was it true that ISIS set off multiple EMP's across the USA, taking out the entire power grid? Or was that just a cover up?
John and Laura Monroe are stuck on a train that has come to its final stop one-hundred fifty miles from home. With no communications, and strange storms taking over the skies, every decision they make could be the difference between life or death.
A short intro into what could happen if an EMP went off over the Midwest. Conspiracy theories always ran deep in those individuals who thought this day would come, but they couldn’t even begin to imagine what would come next.
The narration for Strike Point Blackout was done by the prepper/post-apocalyptic voice himself, Kevin Pierce. Pierce does a wonderful job bringing life to these characters, especially the main character John. Pierce just has one of those “manly — everything will be okay” kinds of voices. Even when the characters are going through hell, Pierce’s smooth voice makes you feel like they will make it out.
I knew going into it at in between 3 and 4 hours long that Blackout wasn’t going to be a full in depth story about the attack or the people who survived it. But, there still was some character development and some nice plot movement too. The reader will definitely have questions, but Hawk answered more than I was expecting in this intro book.
Honestly, I usually give “Part 1” type books a bad wrap on here because I really hate when someone breaks a story up into small pieces, but this was really nice. I’d been feeling burned out with my reviews lately and this was the perfect happy medium in between bigger heavier books. Hawk made me understand what was going on and who was going to be important in the books to come and I was able to finish this book in one afternoon.
Overall, other than the length (which could upset some people), this book had a lot of good stuff in it. Hawk definitely knows about character development and plot movement, and I hope to see what else happens (and maybe even find out about who planned and executed the attacks).

I really like survival stories of all kinds. Recently, I have read quite a few books that involve an EMP. When I started listening to this audiobook I figured I would enjoy it, but wasn't expecting anything that different. I was happy to find that I started really caring about the characters, and root for them. There were actually a few things that happened in this book that made it feel unique compared to the other books in the genre. The narrator of the audiobook is Kevin Pierce. I have listened to several books he has narrated, and I really like him. His voice is a great fit with this genre especially, he conveys the emotions of the characters really well. I really enjoyed this audiobook, and I'm very interested to see where this series goes in the future. **This book was provided in exchange for an honest review.
It wasn't a bad book, but I couldn't really get into the characters. Not sure if I'll continue with the series or not, it will depend on how I like his other book I have in my to-read folder.
This was an easy and quick listen and one I listened to in a day.
The plot was simple yet something that could easily happen! Multiple EMPs are set off in America, resulting in electronics gone etc. But with this book, the government knew it would happen so were somewhat prepared. This one follows husband and wife, John and Laura, trying to get home. I liked the fact that John and Laura were ordinary people and only had the basic idea of survival by watching prepper shows, and the internet. It was nice that they weren't the "prepper" type!
While I did enjoy this, the whole plot was what I consider forgettable. It wasn't that action packed nor fast paced. It just kind of plodded along. It ended with a cliff hanger which is why I may continue on with the series but I'm not sure. It's not high on my list though.
Kevin Pierce did a great job with this, just like he has done with every other book I've listened to that he has narrated. He has a smooth, easy to listen to voice and one that's suited to these kind of books.
*I received this for review. This in no way affected my thoughts.*
This was a typical "TEOTWAWKI" book. The story involves John and Laura Monroe who are traveling by train when an EMP (electromagnetic pulse) takes place wiping out all electronics and basically sending the world centuries back into the middle ages. This concept is not new, and unfortunately, Hawk did not add anything original or exciting to this genre which is bursting at the seems these days, it seems.
The audiobook was narrated by Kevin Pierce, and as he narrates a large portion of the "end of the world" genre novels, it made this book kind somewhat indistinguishable from all the others that he narrates. His voice is very nice, though, I will definitely admit that. But after listening to more than a couple "end of the world" books narrated by the same narrator, they all start to run together in my head.
I recommend this to anyone who likes books in the "TEOTWAWKI" or "SHTF" genre.

Quick, enjoyable, interesting and entertaining. What would you do in a disaster situation?
If you like realistic post apocalyptic stories this is a good one.
I enjoyed the story. A post apocalyptic scenario of some of the normal things that could occur after a major disaster and how an average person would handle them.
Since the government knew the attack was coming this explains how some of the electronics that survived.
Just when it was getting really good the story ended.
Kevin Pierce did a great job with the narration as usual. Great character voices. Conveys the emotions of the situation nicely. Nice smooth even pace. Pleasant voice.

My only complaint is that the book is more like a novella.... if I had paid for this I'd have been disappointed because for the length.... just when it got really good it ended. Yes there's a part 2 and maybe even more.... It left me wanting more & that IS a good thing. I liked how the characters had a vague sense of what was going on & how to handle themselves. I want to know that they continue their journey & reach their destination.
Kevin Pierce did an excellent job as always. I listen to everything I can find that is narrated by him. I want him to narrate my life because it would sound a hell of a lot more interesting if he did! My husband laughs because he actually knows 'HIS' name because I always get excited when I find a new book narrated by Kevin.
I was voluntarily provided this review copy at no charge by the author, publisher and or narrator.
This EMP story about a married couple trying to return home is really more about a set of political beliefs. One of the characters believes that the government is responsible for the attack. They are also provided with the basic essentials of survival by the authorities. They seem to be more inconvenienced rather than suffering in any real way.The book ends with a small cliffhanger which is expected with a series. The narration is alright and portrays the story well.I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
Married couple John and Laura find themselves in the midst of a terrorist EMP attack. Multiple warheads lifted into the atmosphere via weather balloons were detonated across the United States taking down the entire grid. Suspicions mount as the government’s complicity in the EMP attacks is examined. The couple unwittingly places their trust for temporary quarters in the Army and soon realizes their mistake. With the aid of a mutual survivor they make their escape heading for safer and more familiar ground.
LOVED this book!Kevin pierce was a great narrator.A couple are on a train when the emp hits.Actually it hits many places. Then the tornadoes come.Three survive to walk miles for help that was never coming. After a night with a kindly farmer they head to the prison which has become a refuge WAY too fast.Someone knew what was coming. It is too bad the crazies are in charge.I cant wait to get book 2! I was given this book free for an honest review
My Favorite genre is Dystopian with Survival stories being at the top of the sub-genres. So, I was really excited to read this. Right away I engaged with John & his character. I was endeared to John by his loving description of Laura! Their characters started off strong & intriguing. I began pulling for then right away.
Really enjoyed the book. It read like a real account of what happens to a guy and his wife during an EMP. Looking forward to reading more of this series.
