The final collaboration from Eddie and Gerald an intimate glimpse into their lives, their passions, and their musical legacy. But most important, I Got Your Back gets inside the special and rare father-son bond that these two R&B legends shared. Eddie and Gerald put their hearts and souls on the line and talk about their failures, concerns, fears, and triumphs as father and son. With a powerful message of reconciliation for broken families, Eddie and Gerald explore the themes of fatherhood, male bonding and male-female relationships. The book includes moving tributes from Eddie, Patti LaBelle, Steve Harvey and others, as well as treasured family photographs.
Eddie Levert is one of the founding members of the pioneering 1970s soul group and 2005 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees The O’Jays. He lives in Las Vegas.
This was such a great book to read of father and son, hopes and dreams, loss and gains, etc. It's sad that Eddie Levert, Sr. lost both of his famous sons, Gerald and Sean. If you haven't read this book, you should. It's so Eddie and Gerald! I enjoyed the read!
I read this book in one evening. I've been listening to Gerald 's music a lot lately. It's as if his songs are letters he left us to tap into his heart. In My Songs, Sweeter, Got Love, How Many Times and Dream With No Love are particularly poignant. Rest In Power Gerald and Sean!
Another Book that I read in about a day and a half. It was so inspiring to me as an entertainer and as a mother. I had the pleasure of meeting Eddie Levert many years ago when I was a very young and green singer and I could remember and relate to alot of the things that he described in the book. He was really open and honest. Though, I saw him perform a few times, I never had the pleasure of meeting Gerald, but I had the honor of singing for his tribute when he passed away in November of 2006. R.I.P... Teddy Bear... He passed away very shortly after they finished the book. I got the book as a birthday present and was able to meet Eddie again, talk to him and get my book signed, and even though I am much older, wiser and more seasoned as an entertainer, I was just as thrilled to meet him again as I was the first time. I had a whole new respect for him the second time. I felt the need to pass this book down to my 2 sons to help to guide and direct them in their quest to raise their own sons and daughters. I will cherish this autographed copy for a lifetime.
