A story that reminded me of my own Father and brought back to life many memories of my childhood days. It had me laughing and crying at the same time more often than I can count. Illustrates well how grit and determination keeps people moving forward and how hopes and dreams are a key fuel. A nostalgic depiction of the human condition, spanning from tragic to heroic.
Relationships are complicated: especially father-son, blue collar to society, husband-wife, 196o's teen to himself. Of which this story gives honor to. Lots of hidden heros, with great failures. Really great for those looking for WNY history.
Locations and family situations resonated with me. Phillips’ writing continuously drew me in, reminding me of the emotional comfort I feel whenever out in wilderness. Thank you for this extraordinary memoir, Mark Phillips.
