Connie Suttle lives in Oklahoma with her husband and three cats.
Connie holds an MFA in Fine Art (film production and animation) and taught courses at the university level before moving on to bookstore management. Nowadays, if she isn't writing or editing, she's dreaming up her next book.
I guess I'll be the only one to say it... She's done her characters a huge disservice by combining the stories of 2 different heroines and where her other books flowed and told a story this was just one giant statement. I feel that I don't know any of the new characters and I wasn't given any opportunity to get to know them. This felt like 3 books compounded into 1 and almost all of the conflicts from this and the last book were concluded in a really lackluster way. The ONLY thing that makes this book bearable was that I absolutely loved these characters from previous books and was happy to hear anything about them.
I'll preface this by saying I've read the majority of her previous books, and this problem has been getting out of hand:
I couldn't make it past the first chapter. One of the biggest complaints with Suttle's latest books is that she hops around from different character perspectives WAY too often. In the first chapter perspective changed no less than 6 or 7 times; perhaps more, I'll never know.
If you're going to write in 1st person, stick to 1 character, 2 at the absolute most and keep the perspective for the entire chapter. If you're going to use multiple perspectives, then go to 3rd person.
This book was satisfying. So many problems are solved and questions answered. There are new characters but also many that we know and love and some we don't like at all. There are noticeable absences, Hank, Garde, those from New Fyris. As is usual, there is suspense, anger, shock, tears and laughter. Connie Suttle is a true story teller.
Well it seems that Zaria and Quinn’s stories over lapped significantly. The banding together of the ASD, Lissa’s family; the Avendor shifters as well as Kay, Bree, Ashe, Charles, the Larentii, Ilya, Terrent and some High Demons, Wellend and Wylend and countless others to defeat the enemy across multiple time zones and planets forced me to reread chapters so I didn’t get lost. Connie Suttle has a fantastic imagination and keeps you immersed to the last paragraph. I wish I could get gishi fruit❣️
Connie has done it again this book has everything. Ive laughed and cried like a baby reading this series.it is one of my favourite and i cannot wait to read more x fantastic
I loved this ending. I still wish I had read Corinne's series first, or at least finished it before finishing this one. I had had Spellbreaker for a long time.... Once again a bunch going on and I loved every minute of it. It's daunting when all of the characters are in a scene together, or at least most of them. You don't always think about how many there really are until it happens.
I liked the series until I got to this book. Besides the plethora of secondary (and unnecessary) characters, I really liked the plot and character development going on in the series. Then I feel like this book just took all of that and threw it away.
First, Quin is not the main focus of this book. Because she's going through her molting phase she's basically stuck and not doing anything. More than that, she feels useless and out of place with her white wings. After the major character development and action in BlackWing, I found this disappointing.
Second, and most importantly, the ending. THE ENDING. It was so frustrating! Ok, I like the whole, you can choose what color wings you want so we're not stuck in this stupid caste system, but I don't like that Quin gets red wings and Zaria gives herself white wings because she is their "guardian". Doesn't Quin qualify as a guardian? I mean, yeah, she's happy with the red wings because that means she'll be accepted, but since white wings end up indicating guardian status, I think that Quin (who has done a lot and is THE MAIN CHARACTER) should have stayed with the white wings. Instead, this lady who didn't show up until the previous book gets made into the guardian. Does this not sounds wrong?
Basically, I believe this book just completely destroyed the series.

I enjoyed Book 5 in this series. I took my time reading it so I would miss anything. I was happy to get reacquainted with the characters I have loved in passed books. Zaria has become my favorite she is strong and willing to do what it takes she has some snark that makes me laugh out loud. Justice, Quin and everyone has a lot going on in this book you get to meet new people that fit right in with everyone else. The War that we all have been waiting for has arrived. But you must read the book to find out if V'ili and Cayetes gets what's coming to them. I recommend this series and Author, she builds worlds and charters that you want to learn moire about.
I truly enjoyed this book, I cried and laugh as the book took twists and turns that you had to pay close attention or you would have gotten confused.
Vardil the bastard and murderer that he is found a friend in V'illi, as they both would sell their own mother to rule the world and kill anyone who stood in their why.
So many people died, so many worlds got infected because of one man, who thought himself above everyone one and wished to control the lives of people if they had enough money to pay.
The concept of so many different Gods, people, races and planets all came together to create a master piece that was the First Ordinance Series.
I have never read a book by this author that I didn't love, and was on my way through my second read through of her books when white wing came into view. I immediately reread books 1-4 and then headed off on this adventure! And what an adventure it was, including beloved characters from all the earlier series and with mysteries cleared up, wrongs righted and a great group of characters to get to know and love. I won't talk of the storyline. All I can say is it is the best and most satisfying story so far in a crowd of wonderful stories. Thankyou again Connie Suttle.
The drama of the spheres, Vardil Cayetes, and V'ili is all resolved in this novel. Through some creative time travel by Zaria, tragedy is converted into celebration. There were some things that didn't make sense, some inconsistencies with other books in the series, and the same issues with word choice and punctuation that I've had with other books by this author, but overall it was a good read and one that I'll re-read when looking for these characters again.
Another great read from Connie Suttle! Great ending to this series. I have read and loved all of Connie's books and will continue to do so. All of her series are connected, so it is best to start with the Blood Destiny series and work your way up. You will not be disappointed. The worlds and characters that Connie has dreamed up are vast and wonderful.
As always this book was great. I had to slow myself down in reading it or I would have finished in one night. Ms. Suttle has brought so many things together in this book and series loved it!
Loved the ending to this series. The book kept me in suspense the whole way through. I would recommend this author to anyone who likes a good story told in a way that isn't predictable. Looking forward to reading more from the author.
I would like to have given 10 stars if possible. I absolutely love this series .Connie Suttle is an amazing author and all her books are well worth the time and money.
Another brilliant edition to an already great group of series. Old friends return, new friends introduced. I hope this isn't the last in the First Ordinance set
What can I say apart from I cannot get enough of the saga, being hooked from the very first "Lissa" novel. Beware new readers - you will become an addict.
