Carolina Moon #3

Wait Until Dark

Rate this book
A woman grieving broken dreams. A man struggling to regain memories. A secret entrenched in folklore dating back two centuries. Antiquarian Felicity French has no clue the trouble she’s inviting in when she rescues a man outside her grandma’s old plantation house during a treacherous snowstorm. All she wants is to nurse her battered heart and wounded ego, as well as come to terms with her past. Now she’s stuck inside with a stranger sporting an old bullet wound and forgotten hours. Coast Guardsman Brody Joyner can't remember why he was out in such perilous weather, how he injured his head, or how a strange key got into his pocket. He also has no idea why his pint-sized savior has such a huge chip on her shoulder. He has no choice but to make the best of things until the storm passes. Brody and Felicity’s rocky start goes from tense to worse when danger closes in. Who else wants the mysterious key that somehow ended up in Brody’s pocket? Why? The unlikely duo quickly becomes entrenched in an adventure of a lifetime, one that could have ties to local folklore and Felicity’s ancestors. But sometimes the past leads to darkness . . . darkness that doesn’t wait for anyone. Fiction/Christian/romance/mystery/suspense

Christy Barritt is an author, freelance writer and speaker who lives in Virginia. She’s married to her Prince Charming, a man who thinks she’s hilarious—but only when she’s not trying to be. Christy’s a self-proclaimed klutz, an avid music lover who’s known for spontaneously bursting into song, and a road trip aficionado. She’s only won one contest in her life—and her prize was kissing a pig (okay, okay… actually she did win the Daphne du Maurier Award for Excellence in Suspense and Mystery also). Her current claim to fame is showing off her mother, who looks just like former First Lady Barbara Bush
When she’s not working or spending time with her family, she enjoys singing, playing the guitar, and exploring small, unsuspecting towns where people have no idea how accident prone she is.

The conclusion to Christy Barritt's Carolina Moon series is a great ending. Full of suspense, twists and turns as well as a romance thread, I loved both of the main characters. They worked well together after they got past their initial meeting and Felicity's suspicion of him.

Definitely a very good suspense series.

What is better than a hunt for hidden treasure? Nothing, of course. In Christy Barritt's latest mystery novel Wait Unit Dark, Barritt takes me on a journey through an old, long forsaken house in North Carolina. Felicity, the heroine, is struggling with the hurt of her past, which has stopped her from reaching her dreams. She has grown up her entire life listening to her grandma and aunt preaching about their relationship to Blackbeard. Of course, she never listened. Until the night of the big snowstorm, which is where the story starts. Enters Brody. A well-trimmed man with no idea what brought him to Felicity's humble home. With footprints and tire tracks across the far away home, Brody and Felicity are instantly in a mystery. The pace of the story was perfect. Most chapters ended in a cliff hanger, so I wanted to find out what was happened, so of course, I would flip to the next chapter and read. I literally couldn't put the book down. I LOVED this story. Something about a mysterious house with the hunt for treasure.

Full of mystery and hunt for Blackbeard's treasure, Christy Barritt captured my interest and didn't let go in her latest book Wait Until Dark. I definitely will be returning to this book sometime soon.

I received a complimentary copy from Christy Barritt and the opinions stated are all my own.

Another winner from Christy Barritt! Book 3 in the Carolina Moon Series is a fun read, and since I live in North Carolina myself, I found the story surrounding the "buried treasure of the pirate, Blackbeard (Edward Teach)," to be an extra treasure! I have been to The Outer Banks and to Ocracoke and have heard the theories and legends about his buried treasure, so this story about Brody and Felicity had me guessing right along with them. With lots of baggage and trust issues from their pasts, Brody and Felicity have to quickly learn to depend upon each other as the treasure hunters are on their trail. Quirky characters, hidden treasure, romance, a chance of redemption, historical data, and pirates! What's not to love? I enjoyed "Crazy Aunt Bonny," and the mentions of characters from the previous two books in this series. I received a free copy of this book in exchange for a fair review.

Book 1: Remember your parents saying to you “be home before dark?” I thought of this phase as I read this book! Home Before Dark is a story mixed with charm in the small town life in North Carolina tangled in a gripping suspense where Daleigh, a famous country singer and Ryan, a hometown mechanic realize that someone wants them dead! They learn how to rely on each other and more importantly God to make it home before dark!

Book 2: Gone by Dark is set in the same small North Carolina as Home Before Dark. The book continues with characters from book 1 and has many twists and turns in the plot. Charity White is determined to find out what happened to Andrea, her best friend 10 years ago. When he returns to her hometown many people still think she is to blame. Police Officer Joshua Haven, is drawn to Charity and helps her to solve the mystery,

Book 3: Wait Until Dark continues in the same small town in North Carolina as Home Before Dark and Gone by Dark. The story picks up the life of Coast Guardsman Brody Joyner and Felicity French. Felicity finds Brody almost frozen to death in a freak North Carolina snow storm and has no clue the trouble she’s inviting in when she rescues him outside her grandma’s old plantation house.

All three books are EXCELLENT and I stayed up way too late reading and was disappointed when the series ended. 

They're future depends on the past...

It doesn't get any better than Wait Until Dark! First, it's a Christy Barritt book which makes it a must read in my estimation. Second, secrets of the past and pirate tales?! You just can't beat that combination!

I've eagerly looked forward to each book in the Carolina Moon series, the stories connected but each stands on its own, and none of them have disappointed. They have a little bit more of a romantic suspense feel to them, which I love. A little darker, a little more chilling, and definitely a lot of fun to read! Believe me, Wait Until Dark has it all! From a delightfully mysterious cover to some great quirky characters, and lots of tense moments that will totally keep you on the edge of your seat breathlessly turning pages.

Wait Until Dark is a definite MUST read for romantic suspense fans and Christy Barritt fans. I'll warn you, though...you won't be able to put it down even if you try...

An old looking key is slipped into Brody's pocket by a dying man.

What does it unlock?

A modern day pirate story, complete with a treasure map (even has an X to mark the spot!) and a race to find the hidden treasure!

Favourite Quote:

“Don’t beat yourself up,” he said quietly. “It’s not a fun place to be. The punches we throw at ourselves can hurt the worst.” ~ Brody Joyner

Antiquarian Felicity rescues a man during a treacherous snowstorm. But is she bringing danger to herself and her aunt by acting as a good samaritan?  And what about the tales of hidden treasure her aunt so firmly believes in? I didn't enjoy this book quite as much as the previous 2 books in the series, but still a good read from an outstanding author

Read them all.

Had to read them all before I could write. Not because I didn’t lik each and everyone. I had to get to the next book to see what would happen. Not disappointed with keeping the characters entwined. Great job with “ I didn’t se that coming” moments in ea h book. Great reading.

And the moonlight will guide you

Brody & Felicity were thrown into a treasure hunt as strangers, and found the greatest treasure of all. A renewed relationship with God, a God of restoration, and a love for each other. All things work together foe the glory of God. Including treasure hunts!

Excellent

I have enjoyed the Carolina Moon series very much. I appreciate the stories of coming back to God and finding the forgiveness and Love of God waiting for them.
I also love some of the history of the area that is given throughout. (Not finding Blackbeard's treasure if someone is thinking that.)
I love all of Christie's series and highly recommend them.

Wait Until Dark

This is almost a short story but packed with action! Me Barrit writes a compelling tale of sadness and disillusionment, something that rings true for all of us. Don't doubt that courage and faith shine through this romantic tale!

Related to Blackbeard

According to her Aunt Bonnie, she was the 5th great granddaughter of Blackbeard. However, she knows better. Aunt Bonnie's mind just isn't clear.
There is plenty of action plus some swoon worthy romance too. A quick read.
