Skinny, quiet hipster Dylan Warner just wants to live a normal life—despite being a werewolf—but when he buys an isolated farmhouse, it comes with more adventure than he anticipated! In Good Bones, Dylan’s sexy neighbor Chris Nock helps Dylan renovate the house, but how can Dylan reveal his furry secret? In Buried Bones, a brand-new relationship is hard enough to handle, but the appearance of a ghost and Chris’s dad threaten to bring Dylan and Chris’s relationship toppling. In The Gig, a chance encounter introduces Dylan and Chris to Drew Clifton and Travis Miller of Speechless. In Bone Dry, artist Ery Phillips is house-sitting for Dylan and Chris when a strange—and beautiful—man appears by the pond and inspires his muse.
Kim Fielding lives in Oregon and travels as often as she can manage. A professor by day, at night she rushes into a phone booth to change into her author costume (which involves comfy clothes instead of Spandex and is, sadly, lacking a cape). Her superpowers include the ability to write nearly anywhere, often while simultaneously doling out assistance to her family. Her favorite word to describe herself is "eclectic" and she finally got that seventh tattoo.
Book 1 was fine and fun. I did skip parts, and there is a lot of sex which got old, but still a nice story. The other books in the series aren't bad, just average and I skipped parts of those too. These are paranormal so that was a good aspect. I do recommend simply because they are well written and entertaining, though long winded. 😊
I’ve read and enjoyed Kim Fielding before, and I was thoroughly entertained by this bundle! This ebook contained the three stories encompassing the Bones Series, plus a short story.
The series is a quick read, but I forced myself to go slowly just to take in the nuances of the story, relationship and shifter details. I like how the author has the shifter, Dylan, wanting to have a normal life. I really felt for the guy with his woes and troubles, and the other MC was wonderfully flawed as well. It seemed realistic for a story with a paranormal bent, if that makes any sense. Enter in the love interest, Chris, and we have a perfect match of insta-love. I don’t normally care for that trope, but it was well used and enjoyed here.
I don’t think I can pick a favorite of the stories, but this is one universe I would definitely like to return to.
The first two books don't gloss over the wild nature of wolves that shifter stories often do. Nor does it go into "alpha wolf" type characters that are all the rage for shifter stories. I love Ery. He's fun.
I bought this bundle on recent Dreamspinner sale marathon and in the midst of book 1 I've realized that I've read these series a long time ago. Since I barely remembered them, I proceeded to re-reading and enjoyed revisiting these characters. I liked Bones the most out of the bundle but Ery's book was the second best. The Gig was so short, it was over before I've got a sense of what's going on. Wish it was longer because I really liked Travis and Drew and wanted to know more about them and how did they get to the point where their story has started. I liked that these books did not follow the beaten paranormal track and applaud the smooth writing and well-crafted characters.
Rating of 3.5 stars. Have not previously read these books.
Good Bones
Reader is introduced to Dylan and Chris, when Dylan packs up and leaves Portland and the fears of being caught away from his safe room in werewolf form. He finds and buys a secluded house with acres to roam freely, but it comes with a neighbor who likes to pee off his back porch. Enter Chris; lonely, friendless, with secrets of his own. When Chris volunteers to help Dylan renovate the house, both discover more than they bargained for. It’s only when Dylan’s former lover comes a callin’ that Dylan finds he has to tell all or lose Chris as a friend and boyfriend.
I liked the City guy/Country guy contrast. I did NOT like the SIL or the nosey co-worker. This is a peeve of mine, but I just can’t imagine badgering anyone about their sex life and I’m finding I detest the whole squealing, excitable, “tell me EVERYTHING!” female relative/co-worker/bestie who HAS to know if the gay guy got laid with ALL the details! Just doesn't work for me.
The rest of the plot quirks I could deal with (insta-love) and I found Chris’s hot/cold emotions actually working with all of Dylan’s fear and werewolf issues. Chris is damaged goods and Dylan learns the hard way he’s not the only one with problems.
Buried Bones
Chris and Dylan are settling into a relationship – they have their trust and jealousy problems to work on. Just when they think things are starting to even out, Dylan’s former so-called lover starts to haunt Dylan’s house, going so far to smash windows and Dylan’s laptop.
In Buried Bones we get more woo-ing and dating between Chris and Dylan, as each man tries to figure out a way to please the other. I really liked their chemistry. A squealing Matty is less an issue, but still present to annoy me. The reader is introduced to the colorful Ery and his rather more staid Grandma, Chris’s father makes a surprise appearance, and they learn the ghost has an ulterior motive. As Dylan’s life is endangered, Chris learns that family can be counted on.
Buried Bones was a bit slow to start, then picked up speed about 2/3 of the way through. Fielding had a deft hand at the interwoven plots and twists, to bring everything to a very satisfactory conclusion.
The Gig
A short 25 page-ish story that introduces the reader to two new characters (if new to the series), or two regulars (if the reader has read Fieldings Speechless). I would have liked The Gig to have been longer.
Bone Dry
Chris and Dylan are on vacation in Europe and Ery has agreed to watch the homestead hoping the change will inspire his painting. Ery makes the unexpected acquaintance of Karl Stroemkarlen, a water sprite who has been living in Dylan’s pond for over hundred years. Ery has to make some very adult decisions – pursue an illustrious artist’s residency in NY or stay in Portland with the one man who inspires his paintings.
Not my favorite. I didn’t feel like I ever got to know Karl more than a beautiful, long limbed if somewhat wet body. I felt he was rather one dimensional; his strength was his looks, naivety, and longevity. His personality was a bit like jasmine rice - pretty to smell but still a bit bland. Ery...I liked Ery. Bright, passionate, loves his Parents and Grandma, good at what he does, cares about his friends. But Karl and Ery together? Meh, chemistry wasn’t clicking for me.
Ultimately four stories that flow well together, each building on the previous plots and characters. Chrys, Dylan, Ery and the supporting characters make a fairly well rounded series that contains a bit of something for everyone.
Overall, A fun collection of paranormal books with a sweet group of guys struggling to overcome their various insecurities and issues. There may or may not be a unicorn and sasquatch does exist. As long as Dylan doesn’t eat them, they should be okay.
Review cross posted at Gay Book Reviews Book bundle provided by author/publisher for a fair and honest review. Thank you!
This bundle includes three books from the Bones series, plus a short story from another series that features the main characters.
Good Bones (#1) was definitely my favourite story, followed by Buried Bones (#2). Both books centre around Dylan and Chris and their developing romance. What makes the stories fabulous is that Dylan is a werewolf and the pair have to deal with issues relating to that in both these books. There’s drama, suspense, humour, and some lovely hot scenes between the two of them. And what’s more, #1 is available as an audiobook and is superbly narrated by Nick J Russo. I’ll certainly snap up #2 if it’s released on Audible.
Although short, The Gig gives us an update on Dylan and Chris as well as a sweet story featuring the guys from Speechless. The Gig can be read without having knowledge of Travis and Drew, although I’m going to check the other story out.
Ery appeared as a friend and confidante in #2 and his story is told in Bone Dry (#3). Most of the story is set on Dylan and Chris’ property and we are treated to more of these two hotties. Ery falls for Karl, a nix/water spirit, who emerges from Dylan’s pond, and in doing so finds his muse and starts painting again. The story was a little slow in its development for me, but the romance that developed was sweet.
I always enjoy Kim Fielding’s writing and the way she weaves intricate plots and produces well-developed characters. She excels in world-building and made the werewolf aspect entirely plausible. I particularly liked the interaction between Dylan and Chris and the chemistry that developed between them in the first two books. Overall, this is an enjoyable set of stories and well worth reading if you are a fan of paranormal and contemporary romance.
Independent reviewer for Divine Magazine, I was gifted my copy of this book.
Two years ago, Dylan was bitten by a one night stand and now, every 28 days, he locks himself in a steel cage so he doesn't hurt anyone. But he can't go on like this, and moves almost to the middle of nowhere and lets his wolf run free. Chris lives next door. These are their stories.
Or rather, books one and two are Dylan and Chris; book three is a little crossover short from another series and book four is about Dylan's friend Ery.
I liked this set, regardless of that.
I loved the interaction between Dylan and Chris, they were proper cute together. Funny too. And after Chris finds out Dylan issue, the wolf jokes are great! Dylan and his brother Nick are funny too, with lots of silly nicknames for each other.
Book one, Good Bones, is written entirely from Dylan's POV, but we do get some Chris in book two, Buried Bones. Book three, The Gig, is written from Travis' POV and is about his and Drew's meeting with Dylan and Chris. And book four, Bone Dry, is about Ery, Dylan's friend, and Karl, who lives in Dylan's pond.
They are all very well written, and well delivered. I'm left intrigued by Travis and Drew and their story and want to go and read their series of books.
Not overly explicit, just the right amount of sex and steam for these books, and it does get a little gory in places, especially when Dylan is wolf. I loved that there were two distinct halves to him.
Good Bones and Dry Bones are my two favourites.
4 solid stars across the set.

Enjoyed this series. The first book had really everything I could have wanted from this sort of romance. Fielding handled Chris's mood swings well to the point where it was only a little frustrating but could have gotten old really quick. The second book continues to follow Dylan and Chris with a satisfying wrap up. The Gig (short story) in between didn't feel out of place in the universe, but I just learned it came from a separate novella, which would have been a nice note somewhere (I never read any of the summaries after I got the gist of the first book. The third book in the series eased into a secondary character's story while still providing some banter between Dylan and Chris that I'd come to love. I felt some of the plot twists were far too easy to guess (you know when you figure something out right at the beginning of the book and wait for the characters to catch up?) but I still enjoyed the ride. I also wish the romance in the third book had been drawn out further, it seemed sort of rushed. Overall worth the read and well written.
