The sexy supernatural saga that began with FOUR EMPERORS continues with Evan Allen’s spicy, high-spirited THREE WARLORDS.
Eight months ago, reckless young detective Alex Lin first crossed paths with the Four Emperors, a quartet of reincarnated super-powered siblings from ancient China. After finding the love of his life in Daniel Bitter, a moody and mysterious restaurateur with the ability to control the wind, Alex settles down and reforms his notorious party-boy ways. When Daniel dumps him without warning and vanishes, a heartbroken Alex once again finds himself menaced by three sleazy, duplicitous warlords with long-standing grudges against Daniel. While Alex races to find Daniel, more ancient enemies begin to surface as events that were set in motion two thousand years ago come to a head in modern-day Seattle… and Alex is right in the center of all the chaos.
Fast-paced sequel to Four Emperors, an urban gay fantasy/mystery set in Seattle. This book has many of the same ingredients that I enjoyed from the first book in the series: fluid prose, a likable biracial main character, lots of Chinese fantasy and folklore, vivid action scenes, familiar Seattle locations, and plenty of gay sex. Allen doesn't provide a summary of the events of the first book, so I strongly suggest reading Four Emperors before picking this one up. There isn't much sleuthing by Alex Lin this time around, but there's a nice twist at the end. Look forward to Allen's conclusion to the trilogy.
Gah. I don't know why I do this to myself. Start reading a series, get completely sucked in by it's awesomeness, get to the last published book. And then. That is when I realize it was written five years ago and ends on a cliffhanger, and it appears the author has abandoned the series.
This is my biggest reading pet peeve. So frustrating and such a letdown. Especially when it is a unique and well-written series like this one.
Def not as good as the first book. There’s so much like ... penetrative sex and not as much lead up. Alex is much of a slut as ever, everyone’s drawn to him, its like a harem. Doesn’t explain much. I hated how he kept throwing himself into trouble when everyone’s trying to keep him self. Could be better. Too bad there’s no 3rd book yet
