Given the afternoon off, Odette decides to take the rare time to romantically surprise her boyfriend, Gavin. With flowers in arm and a smile on her face, she visits his home ... and is shocked at what she finds.
Gavin in bed with Shay, his other girlfriend.
Initially devastated, Odette channels her anger and accidentally unleashes the dormant beast within; a psychopathic brutality she has somehow managed to control for a decade.
But she's not alone.
Shay also harbours the same insanity, one a little closer to her apparently sane surface, and when the women realise Gavin has jilted them both, they take their violent urges out on their beau.
At the age of seven, I fell in love with the written word. Since that fateful day, I've dreamt of writing my own novels. In April 2014, twenty-five years later, that dream finally came true.
Writing is, and always has been, my passion. I revel in creating characters, unique worlds, realistic environments, and situations and stories that hook the reader. Reading stories of this kind inspires me so returning the favour has always been important to me, as a writer and a fan of literature.
I'm also a co-director at Dark Chapter Press, an English-based horror publisher, so pop over to my website for more information, including a fan club, the latest submission calls and new releases.
Warning. Do not read if easily offended! This book is all kinds of messed up, and really pushes some boundaries. I'm very hard to shock, but there was even one point where I was thinking "Jesus Christ I can't believe they did that" If you like fast paced, all out brutally violent stories. Then this is right up your street! It worked very, very well and was a lot of fun to read. Definitely recommend.
"a brutal and harrowing examination of the instabilities of the human mind and the depths of depravity that some individuals will go to for gratification."
This was my first time reading either Matt Hickman or Stuart Keene, so I could not distinguish who was who....and as much as I loved both Shay and Odette, I must say that Shay was more to my liking.
It starts out a revenge type story and gets very twisted very quickly. I love the back and forth points of view between Shay and Odette.
This story is very graphic and not for the feint of heart or the queasy stomached.
This book is one of the best books I have read in a while. Definitely fast paced and intense. I found myself rooting for the killers. Not for those with a weak stomach I hope Matt Hickman and Stuart Keane hook up again.
No words to describe how fast I devoured this tale & how much I love it when two amazing authors join forces to creep the hell outta me!! Woohoo! Keep it guys & fans of modern will keep reading!
Buck Wild and Bat Shit Crazy, Bloody Awesome and Deliciously Deviant ~ and that's just the writers!! Keane and Hickman join unwavering dark forces ~ yep they crossed the streams ~ bringing us Gemini. A tale of two women whose mental faculties have a 'GOING OUTTA BUSINESS ~ MOVING OUTTA ORBIT' blowout bonanza. These writers very impressively took on a couple crazed female parts...and nailed them...err, I mean, it. They nailed IT. And from that lady perspective they tackled everything from the female psyche, them feminine wiles, cat like mannerisms, our deeply philosophical ways, sultry sexual prowess, even grooming needs, aaand mention of a pink dildo ~ WHAA how did they know....thaaat...
Ok so, in all of my reviews Stuart Keane is called The King, so for the purpose of this review (aaand henceforth), Matt Hickman shall be remonikered ~ Slick Hick. He's just so smooth and hardcore, it's fitting. And final.
Ok right, back to our gals, these dames get a little pissed off, they get a lot pissed off actually. Odette and Shay, cut from the same cloth, obviously a torn and tattered patch quilt ~ or perhaps a proper duvet if you're a posh Brit. A devilish bond forms between these ladies, once they tether and unify them frayed fibers, that is. Odette was simply rushing home early one day for a little extra cuddle lovin time with her boyfriend of 3 years, Gavin, when she encountered a..a..aaa soul gutting sight!! Gavin, her love, was not alone. He was with Shay, used to be engaged to her actually until she went away. So yea, these gals have buckets of scorn in common and are more than just a touch spurned and burned. They don't really do the whole huffin and puffin and cryin routine though, no....they unleash something a bit more cleansing and permanent.
So what's a couple of sanity challenged chicks to do now? Cut foot loose and fancy free themselves, of course ~ ummm...split up ~ ...well, it's the only way to play the diabolical game they've concocted. Releasing themselves on the streets and peeps of London. Hijinks and Looojinks ensue. Odette is a bit more structured and methodical when not pushed and Shay is more than a tad bit impulsive and often the pusher. This dynamic (aaand highly maniacal yet polar opposite) duo sure did make for a really riveting read and quite the gripping and gasping page turner.
This was also VERY graphic in quite a few parts too, parts that even made me cringe ~ and I usually cheer and squeal in delight ~ it's not always the parts you think it will be though... And I'm not gonna go into any sort of detail (always cautious of spoiler leakage), but you can('t) imagine from what I've already gone into, plus the synopsis...what lies lurking in wait for you.
The King and Slick Hick are so wickedly savvy and downright masterful at delivering the graphic and naughty know-hows, usually when you're at ease and least expect it. Only the best writers can get away with such a thing, it can't just be thrown in for shock and awe value alone. There has to be a lead up, lead in, and no way out for the readers. They expertly got us emotionally invested in the story, characters, and setting which meant free reign to do as they pleased, and pleased me ~ THEY SURE DID!
OMG jaw dropping moments of slow reveal told through some of the darkest humor, humor so dark that you feel guilty and dirty for giggling at, but you do it anyway cause we're all a bit disturbed...that's why we hang out round these parts. :D Also a shocking and spine tingling ending you won't see coming either, until it's in your face, taunting you.
YEP, boundaries were pushed here or just out-right sidestepped. And there were times that I was flat out pissy and times that I was flat out pouty with these writers...forgoingthere. Just when you think you see where it's headed and the game at play it takes a hard left, swerves, curves, and hits nerves.
Plus quotes like 'The mop and bucket would be useless here, as effective as a sponge in the ocean'. I related. Eeevery time I duck and dodge past my kitchen.
I sure do hope these guys work together again soon in the very near future, they blended and complimented each other styles so well, I couldn't even tell who wrote which part....it was that seamless. And I have read bunches by both blokes!! So yea, I went a little nutty over this little novel, it was fantastic and incredibly well written by a couple stellar storytellers.
Stuart 'The King' Keane and Matt 'Slick Hick' Hickman, yeeea...they should just go ahead and get them matching embroidered towels already. ACES!!
O you two guys Stuart and Matt know how to write a book. It was delicious. Odette and Shay both women are two psychopaths killing anyone for a bet. It was wonderful seeing it from a woman's point of view and the murders were extreme. Great story Stuart and Matt you have evil minds lol. Helen Lancaster
A wonderfully sick tale of two women engaged in a sick challenge and neither wants to lose. Stuart and Matt do themselves proud in this fantastic read of two psychopaths. Read my full review on Amazon but you will love it.
