“Sometimes we have to be our own hero, Joe.”

Burn was our first Ruth Clampett experience and we think we’ve fallen in love with this authors writing style. Although this story deals with some pretty hard hitting issues, the author chose to tell her story in more of a light hearted way, interspersing the heavy, painful moments with witty banter and internal dialogue as told through the eyes of a gutsy heroine who’s found success in what is still quite essentially a male dominated area, and she’s a woman who’s not afraid to speak her mind and who very much wears her heart on her sleeve.

“I’m sorry I’ not easy.”
“I don’t want easy. I want real. You are real. I want you.”

Because of her brashness, the author could have easily made Trisha a little hard for readers to connect with but this wasn’t the case at all. Whilst Trisha may have been one plucky bird, she also had a cracking sense of humour and despite her fierceness, she showed a sensitive soft side that was explored more and more as the story progressed, ensuring we connected and related to her, so well done, Ruth!

“I think I’m finally seeing the soft side of you, sweetheart.”

As Trisha’s layers were peeled away, we began to expose the reason for her ballsy, honest attitude, which didn’t only lie in the fact that she’d succeeded and flourished in her dangerous chosen profession, but also from her present and past issues. . No wonder Joe was so attracted to her.

“Joe, do you even begin to understand how strong and tough I am?”
“It’s okay to be soft once in a while, you know.”

After finding her husband Mike in the throes of passion with another man, Trisha comes to the painful realisation that her marriage has been a lie and is understandably devastated. The friendship of Joe Murphy, her Lieutenant at fire station who is suddenly everywhere, provides a lifeline in her time of need, not to mention the her attraction to this strong, masculine gorgeous man.

Joe Murphy also has past relationship experience that has left him gun shy and we really felt for this man and what he had gone through. He, better than anyone, can appreciate the pain, confusion and emotional turmoil Trisha is going through and he’s not adverse to his feelings towards her either.

“You’re a good woman, Trisha.”
“And you’re a good man.”

Ruth Clampett threw us head first into the dangerous world of these heroes we sometimes take for granted. To Joe and Trisha, this wasn’t a mere job. They risked their lives daily out of passion and an intense desire to make a difference, and it’s a feeling we experienced firsthand with Ruth’s handling of this story which, at one point, had our hearts in our mouths with gripping excitement and dread. It was a heart pounding moment that’s for sure.

“Even the strongest people need help sometimes.”

Burn was one of those stories that was easy to read and that isn’t said in a derogatory way at all. In fact it’s the opposite as we know the stories that feel easy to the reader are sometimes the hardest to write. This story of of hurt, love, second chances and of opening and trusting your heart again could have been a heart wrenching, painful story to read, however Ruth chose to lighten the load for the reader so whilst we did experience the emotion of the story, it felt like a light read as well.

Oh my gawd...Burn is a must read this year for everyone!!!

This is a story that had romance, a smidgen of hurt my heart, a touch of angst, sprinkles of crack me up humor, a dab of some serious trepidation, all wrapped up in a tell me a story kind of story.

I was totally girl crushing on Trisha. She was independent, assertive, aggressive, sarcastic, a very in your face kind of girl. Loved her!!

And Joe, a serious book boyfriend. Swoony, kind, strong, alpha, and just larger than life!

Burn is a fresh and intelligently written romance between two firefighters who are trying to heal the burns left behind after divorce. It’s witty and smart and deals really well with the new realities faced by divorced couples in the modern age.

Trisha is a strong and outspoken woman who is the lone female firefighter in her squad. She’s also a bit of a ball-breaker and doesn’t mince words, which leads her co-workers to nickname her T-Rex for being so fierce. Her life is turned upside down when she walks in on her husband with another man. Everything she believed about herself and her marriage as fallen apart, leaving her feeling vulnerable and broken.

Joe is Trisha’s co-worker and superior at the firehouse. Although she has noticed him before, Joe was never on her radar because she was a happily married woman. Now that she isn’t, Trisha is able to see him for who he is: a quiet, strong, caring man who would be perfect for her.

Since Trisha is such a tough cookie, it was initially a little hard for me to connect with her. Once I got to know her a little bit more, I was able to see her vulnerabilities and insecurities, making her more relatable to me. She’s a complex woman dealing with living in a ‘man’s world’ and it takes a little bit of time to peel back the armor.

Joe, on the other hand, was amazing from the beginning. He was strong enough to handle Trisha and her ‘crazy’, but soft enough to make you melt with his words. The story is told from Trisha’s perspective, but the epilogue is all Joe’s and it makes you love him a little bit more after reading it.

This was my first book by Ruth Clampett and I definitely enjoyed it. Her voice is unique and honest, so I will definitely be reading more of her in the future.

This is hard for me to DNF a book, especially when one of my bestie GR friends really liked it. I had a hard time connecting with either M/C and I just lost interest in the story. It just wasn't my cuppa.

4,5 “Shut up” stars (lol)

It's so nice when we finish a book with that feeling, ya know. That it was worth it. That we wanted more of that, because it was so good. That that time “lost” there, sitting or lying in bed, reading was well spent.

BURN is the second book in the UNTAMED series, however can be read as a standalone. I actually haven’t read the first book yet, WET, where Paul and Elle are the main characters. However, even not appearing that much, I enjoyed both of these characters and now I have to fix this mistake and read it.

BURN focuses on Paul's sister's story, Trisha. She is the only woman working in a squad of firefighters, married and lives a quiet life. Until she catches her husband cheating on her making her world fall apart. Now she has to learn how to live alone and wonders if someday she will love again. Until she begins to size her coworker up. The Lieutenant Joe Murphy.

I had never read anything of Ruth Clampett and I fell in love to her writing style. I had only heard of one of her books, “Animate Me”. Despite the story of this book being a drama she could manage to add funny parts. Starting with the personality of the main character.

Trisha is strong. She knows how to take care of herself. She’s stubborn and very honest. I laugh out loud with her, with certain things she did or said. And she had a huge heart. Trisha works in this squad surrounded by men firefighters. And that doesn’t intimidate her. She is known as T. Rex, because she is spunky and don’t let them take her down.

“And what else did he tell you about me?”
“That most of the guys are scared of you.”
(...)“Is that so?”I ask. He nods.
“And that’s why they call you T. Rex.” I roll my eyes.
“And all this time I thought it was because my arms are really short for my body.”

Even though we already have an idea of what will happen, we root for the couple. And when they finally get together we only want to watch all get hot (No wonder the name of this book is BURN haha).

I like the way they interacted. What I wondered while reading, for example, "Isn’t this going too fast?" the character gave me the answer. The doubts I had, the questions about that relationship coincided with her doubts. And this made me like it even more. Because without it, things might seem obvious or too fast.

BURN is a nice book to read and exciting. We are happy when they are and suffer with them too. It is a great romance about having the opportunity of a second chance and leaving the heart open to recognize when this chance appears.

I loved everything. I loved the story. I loved the characters. Everything. I highly recommend it.

4,5 “cala a boca” estrelas (rsrs)

A Trisha é forte.

Eu amei tudo. Amei a história. Amei os personagens. Tudo. Super recomendo.

BURN is a smartly crafted book with characters so real you'll swear you know people just like Joe and Trisha. Two souls who both know all about being burned--yet able to be refreshingly honest in sharing their feelings with each other. I thoroughly enjoyed this beautiful--and smoking hot--love story from cover to cover.

Sometimes you just find a book that are pleasant surprises. There were many things I enjoyed about this book the friends to lovers aspect, capable heroine who is a firefighter and second chances. Right from that opening scene I was hooked and I wanted to know what would happen next.

Being a woman firefighter has to be struggle in a world dominated by guys. I'm basing this on watching Chicago Fire and other things is just a fraction of the reality. Obviously the real world rules aren't the same. Trisha just came out of a marriage that changed her views on herself. Joe a fellow firefighter on her station has his own baggage and emotional issues. His really to put it simply sucks. I'm sorry but I just kept picturing Joe Manganiello obviously the cover is otherwise but hey can't blame me.

Trisha is badass and snarky but of course she gets hurt too. What starts as a friendship of leaning on another to helping each other slowly becomes more. It's hard with the non frat clause but it's hard to fight that attraction. The tension is there but I felt invested and rooted for them. They work, strong and silent, brash and fierce balances out. The humor and wit offsets the heavier moments in this book.

Being tough and strong all the time can be tiring and seeing the vulnerable side of Trish makes her human. Relatable and not to hard to like. Of course there will be drama but it makes how they handle the hurdles a open way. Joe can understand Trisha's past and now feelings better which is why they seem to get each other.

I've only read Ruth once before and her writing style is easy to get into and I like it. The author created a realistic and dangerous world of firefighters, people who work hard and risk lives to help others. It's not an easy job but it makes a impact. It's a simple story but it full of emotions; hurt, love, second chances, trusting again. Not too heavy a read, great story with a gutsy heroine and the life of firefighters.

Burn was such a good read!

Loved both Trisha and Joe, their story was sweet, fun, emotional and very heartfelt.
Trisha ranks as one of my fav heroines, loved her sass, her humor, her sarcasm, her honesty and her huge heart.
Burn was one of those books once you started reading you couldn't put down.
My interest was captured from the first page, I was laughing out loud and thinking I'd love to have Trisha as my BFF, she was awesome!
I enjoyed watching Trisha and Joe, come together and open their hearts to each other. They both had been burned by previous relationships and hesitant to love again.

Clampett’s BURN is a first-rate romance featuring a heroine who is a REAL woman’s woman .

After discovering her husband “in flagrante delicto” with another man, Los Angeles firefighter Trisha McNeill struggles to move on from the devastation of her broken marriage. As the snarky, fiercely independent Trisha works through her emotional trauma, she learns to accept the support and kindness of her close-knit Irish family, as well as from her fire lieutenant Joe Murphy, a man fighting demons of his own. Trisha’s attraction to Joe quickly progresses into a passion that forces her to decide whether or not she’s willing to fight for a love that could create her life anew.

*Trisha McNeill - how could you NOT love a woman who cuts the crotches out of her cheating husband’s pants? Trisha is the type of romance heroine that I love to read, but don’t often find. She’s a straight-shooter and knows her own mind. And, although Trisha works heard to minimize risk, she does, in fact, know her own heart. And, Trisha's instincts to protect and save at all costs, event to her own detriment, is deeply admirable. (On a personal note, I appreciate Trisha's lack of interest in designer furniture and dressing "to the nines." I get tired of reading about "girly girls.")

*Clampett crafts an engaging romance between Trisha and Joe that is sweet, sexy and, most importantly, built upon a deep-seated foundation of companionship and security (which is fostered between firefighters).

*I applaud how Clampett didn’t disregard Trisha’s ex-husband, Mikey, as a one-dimensional throwaway character. In learning Mikey’s backstory and Trisha's subsequent interactions with him post-breakup, we learn more of her depth of character.

*The passages pertaining to Joe's "tiny house" were super interesting. I've heard of this housing movement, but knew little of the construct of this type of dwelling. Tiny houses are wonderfully cozy, and in Joe's case, very sexy.

Burn
Burn by Ruth Clampett was a fun and exciting read which is the second installment to Wet. The story was immediately intriguing from the beginning and had me wide eyed one minute and laughing out loud the next. The characters, especially Trisha (T-Rex) are hilarious and tender hearted even though she is perceived by her fellow Firefighters to be tough as nails and impenetrable. She wants to be loved just like everyone else but her husband had a different agenda. As a firefighter Trish was tough as nails and her fellow firefighters were thought so too. Heck, Trish thought so as well until something in her personal life rocked her to her core and she thought she was emotionally broken.
Some parts of the story were so touching and tender while others had me wincing at the intensity of the moment. All of these emotions had me reading at every opportunity possible. Ruth has a pure talent for making relationship dynamics ring true on so many levels you wonder if she has multiple personalities with the depth of story implementation and character development. This was such a pleasure to read a honest to goodness love at all costs love story with laughs and intrigue.

I just want to thank Ruth Clampett for another wonderful read. In Burn we get to know Paul's snarky sister Trisha. From the first line her world is turned upside down and falling apart. She is a tough cookie that earns her the Nick name T-Rex From her coworkers at the station, but its not meant as a compliment. Through all the Drama she notices her coworker Lieutenant Joe Murphy, he is hot, sexy and Irish. I don't want to give anything away, you will just have to read this amazing story to find out what happens between Trisha & Joe. I am happy that we were entertained by the Thursday evening family dinners. I loved Wet and Burn is a joy to read. You will be sorry if you do not put Burn on your TBR list. As with all Ruth Clanpetts stories; I did not want Burn to end.

Burn .... What can I say? Ruth writes with wit, humor, and love. There is snarky Trisha, whom we first met in Ruth's book "Wet", the only woman firefighter in the station. The "guys" think she's tough, a man eater even nick named her T-Rex. Her first marriage was broken by a "Sasquatch". Then there is the smoken' hot firefighter Joe, he comes to the party with his own broken marriage under similar circumstances. When the two get together the pages sizzle. An awesome story of love, hate, empathy, bumps and sizzles. You'll laugh, you'll get angry, you may even want to slap some of the characters up side the head. But in the end all's smiles, or in my case happy endings tend to bring tears. A really fun and emotional read. I highly recommend it.

It was okay. I'm not sure I liked the main characters much, but it was an easy read.

Tricia was just not likable. And Joe... He was dreamy at first, but he showed his inner jerk right when Tricia needed him most.

The ending was weird. One chapter felt like we were being told the details as an afterthought. Actually, the whole ending was a bit out of place which made it feel forced and unrealistic.

The saving grace for the novel was Tricia's family. They were a delight to see in action.

I can't imagine a book about Tricia's brother, Patrick. He's such a dud that I can't see reading a whole novel about him, which I think the author will do next. I'm just not sure I will read that one.

I loved BURN! I reminded me of Ms. Clampett's first book Mr. 365, fun, fresh, and page turning. While it's book 2 (WET is book 1) you can read it as a stand alone and not be lost. The main characters of BURN, Joe and Trish are classically wonderful. Just when the reader gets into a grove of happiness for them something new happens to stir up the pot. Ms. Clampett's storytelling abilities prove as strong as ever for her 7th book, BURN. I would consider BURN to be the perfect summer read, on or off the beach.

I didn't particularly like this book. Even though I read the whole of the book, I could have quite easily and happily have stopped part way into the story. It just didn't hold my interest and I got bored. To be honest, after reading this book I probably wouldn't pick up another of this author's works. I don't think the style of writing was for me.

Edit- so it’s two days later, and I keep thinking back to the sweet gentle “hero” of this book, and I’ve come to the conclusion...fuck that guy. After the “phantom at the end of the bed scene” I expected better understanding from him. I’m left with the feeling that the wrong character ended up groveling in this one.

The guys at the station house don’t call Tricia “T-Rex” for nothing. She’s as strong as the nickname implies. But finding her husband in flagrante with one of his employees is enough to make even her stumble.

Tricia may be down, but she’s far from out. She’s at the top of her game as a firefighter in Los Angeles and she’s determined to not allow the chaos of her personal life to affect that. And then she falls for Joe…

I want to drink all the attention in until I’m drunk with it. He better stop with this stuff or I’ll have the most epic crush in history on him that will destroy me when it undoubtedly goes unrequited. He already sports my favorite look in a man: strong, masculine features, dark blue eyes, thick black hair, and a built, solid body.

I sigh inwardly. I’m not exactly a man magnet, and there’s not a single reason to think that Joe Murphy, the giant, would be any different. Before I get up to leave I stare at his hands as he spreads his fingers over the desktop. It’s like watching porn, those strong, rough fingers spreading apart and closing. Holy hell. If rebounding is a religion, I’m ready to be baptized in the church of Joe, just to have those big manly hands on me.

Lieutenant Joe Murphy has his hands full keeping the station house running smoothly. He has always been aware of Tricia in ways that would shock her if she knew and now that her marriage is over, he might just stand a chance.

Together, they will have to overcome the betrayal of their past, the dangers of their job and the insanity of world that surrounds them or their one chance at true love will be reduced to ashes.

“I’m sorry I’m not easy,” I say with a sigh.
“I don’t want easy. I want real. You are real. I want you.”
“Is that a haiku?”
“Shut up, woman.”
Fighting back a smile, I press my lips together. “Did you forget how good my pitching arm is? Tell me to shut up again and I’ll nail you with that stapler on the edge of your desk.”
While still holding me, Joe opens up the desk drawer, sets the stapler inside, and closes it.
“Shut up and kiss me,” he whispers with a teasing tone, and a twinkle his eye.

Burn is a fabulously smart romance as only Ruth Clampett can write! If you've read any of her books, you know that her characters are the reason that her stories are so extraordinary - Tricia is a refreshing dichotomy of strong and vulnerable while Joe is a perfect blend of swoony and intense.

It’s deliriously funny while being so sizzling hot that they just might have to take a fire hose to you. And you’ll never look at Buzz Lightyear in quite the same way again…

4.5 stars. Trisha McNeill is the only female firefighter on her squad. She was introduced in Wet as Paul's sister. She's mouthy, direct and fierce. Going into this book, I had reservations as to whether or not I could like Trisha because she's a lot to handle and I needed to see some vulnerability in her. Well, Burn didn't disappoint in that regard because I wound up loving Trisha. She's feisty, compassionate and a bada$$. Even her male coworkers are a bit fearful of her.

After catching her husband in a compromising position, Trisha is re-evaluating her life and marriage. Joe Murphy, another firefighter in her squad, reaches out to her as sympathetic colleague. Through a series of events, he and Trisha even become friends who hang out together. Why weren't they friends before if they worked at the same station? Because they were almost never on the same shift or rotation. Joe had a very lumber sexual vibe underneath that fireman uniform and I adored him. He maintains a calm composure, is philosophical and strives to do the right thing with a strong sense of justice.

What I loved was seeing Trisha come out of her shell and living her life again. Yet she was an emotional wreck and went through all the stages of grief as she questioned herself and her self-worth. At the same time, Trisha is strong, too. She can pick herself back up or focus on the job when her nerves of steel require her to but she's not afraid to lean on her family when she needs them. And the family dinners never fail to disappoint with their level of entertainment and family bonding time. As for Joe, he has his own personal issues to contend with and Trisha pushes his buttons in ways that frustrate him but also spark life back into him. I felt palpable emotions with their obvious chemistry and they were a mixture of hot and sexy but also tender and sweet. Great book for fans of firefighters and ballsy heroines.

I've always loved firefighter stories. Hot sexy firefighter saves the damsel in distress. Well, "Burn" surprised me. It definitely wasn't what I was expecting. Joe and Tricia work at the same station, which creates its own set of complications. Not to mention their own personal "challenges."

I had a bit of a difficult time warming up to Trish (or T-Rex as the guys at the station call her). She's brusk and a bit abrasive. Of course, considering what she's been through, it's kind of understandable. She eventually softened a bit, but I didn't see that change until I was well into the story. Trish is definitely not the stereotypical heroine.

Joe's character has a bit of a standoffish personality too, so I guess in a way, they work. I admit that I didn't like the way the characters would lash out and then avoid each other, but those episodes seemed to be carefully calculated by the author, and each time moved the relationship.

The supporting characters are a mixture of frustrating and funny, but they helped add depth and authenticity to the storyline.

As a fireman's kid, I definitely appreciated the realism of the story. Firemen have families, and I have plenty of memories of our mom taking us to visit my dad at the station when I was a kid. I also appreciated the attention to detail and the reverence the author pays to the heroism of the job.

I received an ARC for an honest review by the author.
Wow! I truly loved this book. The first couple of pages made me laugh so hard, even as my heart broke for Tricia; the last few pages made my heart race and I couldn’t read fast enough! In between is a warm, sexy story filled with the highs and lows of life and love, pain and joy. I was rooting for both Tricia and Joe as they learned each other’s story, felt for them in their insecurities and cheered as they became stronger as individuals and together. If you have read Wet, you will totally enjoy revisiting the McNeill clan, their interaction and family bonds are strong in the book, but not intrusive to this story. Paul is the brother that everyone should have and Elle is the perfect best friend to Tricia.

Burn was an awesome read, it ran me through a gamut of emotions, there were passages that gave me goosebumps and passages that made me pause and think. One other thing…don’t miss the quotes at the beginning of each chapter…they are divine!

Highly recommend this book, it’s definitely in my top 10 this year.

I received an ARC from the author who asked that I give it an honest review. This book came by at the right time. I found myself in a slump, reading book after book of weak heroines that helplessly sat by crying while these guys run them through the mill and when they return it's happily ever after. I wanted to read a book about a girl who was bad ass, who wasn't about to sit around crying over anyone, who had a backbone, and Ruth Clampett delivered! I'm going to try to review without giving away any spoilers.
I was hooked from the start, where we find Trish cutting up her husbands clothes with a pair of scissors. This book was funny, realistic, heartwarming and smart. And did I mention that Lt Joe is sweet, strong, sexy and the most attractive part of him is that he is just as strong a character as Trish.
I really enjoyed this book, and I hope this whole series is full of strong female leads because that is exactly what is needed in romance. Read it!!

This story touches my heart in a profound way. The life of a firefighter is hard as is the lives of their loved ones. I know first hand what it's like to have my husband go out on a fire and have the deputy fire chief come to my door in the middle of the night.
Burn is amazingly written and incredibly well researched. It is a story of a woman who's life in transition. The life she had is no more and she is struggling to find her way through a male dominated work place. The only woman in a firehouse full of men. Mix that in with the horrible break up of her marriage and an undeniable attraction to her lieutenant. Where there is smoke there is always fire. Sometimes the healing of people's hearts comes at a cost. Is it a price worth paying? You have to read to find out :) Thank you to Ruth for absolutely nailing the real life aspects of these incredible people. Kudos to a job very well done!

Burn has recurring characters from Ruth's book, Wet, so if you've met Paul and Elle, you'll get to see them again. If you have not read Wet, don't worry you can absolutely read Burn in its own.

In Burn we get to know Paul's sister Trisha, AKA T-Rex, a lot better when her marriage falls apart. It's a tough time for her, but the burn (pun intended) can be healed by her Lieutenant from the fire house, Joe. A weird and tiny problem bring them together as friends and it soon develops into more. Add in some fraternization and fun will ensue.

Joe and Trisha are cute together and fun to read. Of course, every good romance has some rough spots, and maybe a little burn with it too. Ruth writes a fun and passionate story for them, one that you'll love to read.
