It's the start of a Zombie Apocalypse. George and his family did as instructed by their government, securing their home and await the day they will be saved. But their rations are running low and it would seem that no one is coming to help. Desperate, George leaves his family and heads out to find supplies and hopefully someone to help him and his family. What was supposed to be a few hours of searching, ends up with him being held captive by a local gang leader by the name of Deacon. Now, not only does George face down zombies he must also fight humans. With the safety of his family on the line, he's forced to stay away. Till the day he can escape, his family must survive without him. And so begins the long road home for George, but with multiple enemies in his path, will he make it back in time to save his family or will he lose the battle against the zombies and humans both vying to destroy him.
Not quite a 4 rating, but better than the average 3. I liked the story. I liked the characters. It was pretty easy to read. One thing I did not like was the old TV trick, where they start with an action scene and then put up a caption of something like, "2 weeks earlier...". To me, that's like telling the punch line of a joke, and then telling the joke. Hate it.
OMG! The opening scene (Prologue) hits you straight in the gut. I sobbed like a baby. But then you carry on to see things through George's eyes, what happened to him for him to have been missing for almost a month. And his journey was no easy. He didn't just encounter the danger of Zombies and the struggle to survive, he also encountered the struggle to live. Live among other survivors of this what seems like the end of the world as we know it. And a struggle to stay faithful. The fear is very real. Scarlet Le Clair draws you in from the get-go. Her descriptive writing is immaculate. You almost feel like you are George, and you're experiencing his life as you read it.
'The Bride!' ... ... O...M...G! 'Kelly, Poppy and Cameron....~Cries~ A Must read. You will not be disappointed. 10/10 not just 5 starts
Ever since I first watched The Walking Dead I've been a huge fan of zombies. So imagine my joy when I got 'George' in my hands and could drown myself into the zombie-world again!
George: The Long Road Home is a fast, very entertaining read that suits also for young adult readers. It grabs you in from the first page, shaking your world with an endless 'what if's and realistic descriptions that could be taken from this moment, this place. George's story brings up the readers primal fear, the fear of losing your loved ones.
I loved the author's way of using the words. No unnecessary tricks, yet quite vivid language without being gross or making the story too scary for the younger audience. I can honestly recommend this book to anyone appreciating the good quality, well created characters and an interesting plot! Well done!

A unnatural world is is upon him and he need to get to his family. Not knowing how to deal with these new creatures he learns new thing daily. This book is a wonderful addition to all of the other zombie books and movies out there. Defiantly worth the read.
This is the first book I've read from Scarlet le Clair and won't be the last. A zombie apocalypse is taking place and George is fighting to save his family. Tissues maybe needed from the start as Scarlet tugs at your heart strings. George leaves his family to search for provisions but his journey takes longer as he meets other survivors. The story raises different emotions as the journey continues. How would you survive? What are you willing to do? Scarlet makes you question yourself through her descriptive writing. A great story!
Oh wow the opening to this just totally got me hooked ! Was super into it..
There was some words that kinda went like this .... everyone always thinks I’d do this if an apocalypse happened but it never goes to plan
Well I think this all the time !! I think I’d raid my work place for all the snacks in the draws lol chemist and places do set up home safely but you never think about the dangerous people out there
I enjoyed this book. I was invested in the characters. The author did a great job of describing everything. I could clearly picture the setting. The ending got me. I wanted more for George. But it was good story and would def read more from Scarlet.
A moving and poignant look into the future of a world, lost to zombies.
Review of GEORGE: THE LONG ROAD HOME by Scarlet Le Clair.

A moving and poignant look into the future of a world, lost to zombies.
Scarlet Le Clair tugs at your heart strings with the survival story of George and Kelly and their precious children Poppy and Cameron.
When the zombie virus sweeps through their small village, they battle against all manner of horror in order to survive and hopefully escape to safety. George plays the protector role and leaves them safe and barricaded in their home, in order to scavenge food and supplies for the family.
His misadventures place him in peril at every turn and he must do whatever it takes in order to take the long road home to his family.
Highly recommended for those who love a heart wrenching, zombie stomping thriller. Great short read!!
I approached this book with trepidation as I am a long affirmed Zombie and Horror evader. I was immediately drawn in to the family struggle in the prologue, and not only the battle with the zombies but the battle with their own minds and the need to survive and live a normal life. Our hero George wants the best for his family but soon struggles with loyalty, conscience, love, survival and of course zombies. The very personal tale showing the rollercoaster of emotions experienced during social breakdown in a disaster draws you further in to root for George and his family. The people he meets along the way add to the drama, and each twist takes you further towards seeing all the things that life could throw at us in such circumstances. There is the war with the zombies going on as well which will grip you zombie fans but as a non-horror reader I still thoroughly enjoyed the ride with George on his long road home!
Wow this story made me have so many emotions. I do not typically read Zombie stories because they scare me. But I started this book and I couldn't put it down. I had to know what happens to George, and see how he copes. I felt strongly for George and everything he went through. I could tell he was desperate all the way through, and it made me feel like he would do anything for his family. Nia, Will and Billy had me have different reactions throughout the story. I was on a rollercoaster with them, always wondering if they be friend or foe. I would recommend this to other readers.
This was my first time reading Scarlet and omg won't be my last. This book had me gripped from the start. A zombie story with a heart warming main character George who only wants to get back to his wife and kids. The struggles he faces and the people he meets, a must read story. Would highly recommend to others as a must read.
