Rate this book
What would you do if you learned that you have a chronic, incurable disease? Lie down and prepare to die--or start walking down the unexpected and unchosen path?Life’s cyclones can spin us into unknown territory with no magic shoes to take us home. After spending twenty years as a part-time educator and full-time mom, Sherri Tobias was dusting off career and educational dreams until a diagnosis of young-onset Parkinson’s disease forced her down a path not chosen. Intertwining Dorothy’s iconic journey in Oz with her own travel notes gleaned from her blog and journal, A Path Not Notes from My Journey with a Chronic Disease explores the physical, emotional, and spiritual challenges Sherri faced during the first four years of living with Parkinson's disease and how being diagnosed with an incurable disease unexpectedly made her a healthier person. We all will face the challenges of walking down a path not chosen at some point. The collection of personal notes, essays, and poems in A Path Not Chosen create an informal guidebook for those wanting to approach the unexpected detours in their lives with faith, hope, and humor.

A personal and introspective look at a young woman's "journey" as she learns of her diagnosis of young onset Parkinson's. Although Ms Tobias writes about her coping specifically with Parkinson's, her reflections speak to anyone who has encountered difficult times in their life. Her reflections confirm We are not alone in our thoughts and feelings in whatever unexpected/unwanted journey we find ourselves navigating.
