Nicole must confront a dangerous and vile enemy. An enemy she encountered over a year ago. An enemy still haunting her dreams.
With the first of four talismans safely in Nicole's control, she and her friends begin their search for the next three. But several things get in their way—an evil device that prevents the usage of magic, vampire birds that render their victims immobile, and Keitus's constant planning and scheming.
On top of the traps and obstacles they must get through, Nicole, Austin, and Lizzie find themselves lacking in the magic department. They must strengthen their powers—otherwise, they'll lose traction on the things they've already gained. Will Nicole and her team be ready for the epic showdown with old enemies? Or will they lose the talismans to an evil race they haven't faced in over a year? Find out for yourself by downloading Obscure today!

Andrea, a Brigham Young University graduate, is an avid reader and outdoor enthusiast (hiking, fishing, boating, biking, spending time in the Rocky Mountains, and taking walks). She spent a year and a half serving the Spanish speaking community in Toronto, Canada, and fluently speaks 2 ½ languages. She plays several instruments, not including the banjo, and loves putting together musical arrangements. Her favorite sports are basketball and football, though several knee surgeries and incurably awful coordination prevent her from playing them.
Andrea is always in the mood for a good movie with close friends and family (especially her husband and mom), with a large glass of milk and a bowl of overly buttered popcorn nearby. She also enjoys oil painting, making earrings, squeezing every bit of oxygen out of Ziploc bags, and she hopes to someday travel to Italy and Alaska.
If you like fantasy, magic and adventure, you will like this book. Obscure is Book seven in the Mosaic Chronicles series (previously known as Katon University series). While it helps if you have read the previous Mosaic Chronicles books, so you are familiar with characters and the setting, you can read this book without having read those. This book ends in a cliffhanger. There is violence
The book blurb adequately describes the storyline so I'm not going to repeat all of that info here. Nicole, Austin, Jacob and the rest of their team are still on the hunt for more talismans. They race an ancient enemy, Keitus, to find these talismans. Will they be able to find and get to the next talisman first? And if they do, what about the talismans that Keitus already possesses? Of course there are magical obstacles and beings in their path so their journey will be difficult.
Nicole has been chosen as a Guardian of magical objects. This "privilege" is not as easy as it sounds. She has a lot to learn and not a lot of time. There are unintended consequences while doing something she thought was right. Will she and the rest of the team survive?
The author does a good job of keeping a steady pace throughout the book to keep this reader interested. It keeps you guessing what twists and turns would be revealed in the pages ahead. I really enjoyed this book, as I have the series, and look forward to reading future books in the Mosaic Chronicles series.
I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.
Mosaic Chronicles, Book 7 – Obscure I received a free advance copy of this book from the author in return for honest feedback. I had intended to be caught up on the full Kilenya series as well as all previous Mosaic series books before this book officially published, but alas life got in the way. Having only read books one through three in the Kilenya series along with books one and two in the Mosaic series when I read this, I was happy to re-meet multiple characters as they merged from both series. And while the story was intense and exciting without having read all the previous stories, there were items that popped up that I know I would have fully understood if I’d waited until reading all those other stories. So – I will be **re-reading** this story once I go back and read all the stories I hadn’t gotten to yet. Still, this was a book that kept my eyes glued to my Kindle – and had me desperately wishing that I had taken time off work while reading it. I did not want to put this one down.
The mission to find Nicole's destined path is underway and young Jacob takes her to a past time when those like her, the Guardians of Shonlin, still functioned in their magical capacities. Meeting the Makalo who was more powerful than Aretes and other Makalos causes the nervous flutter she's presently experiencing. The transporting isn't as simple as it might have first appeared to Nicole. Jacob, having had experience and past guinea pigs to work with knows the importance of preventing changes that come from influencing the past history; knowing forewell that he needs to avoid mewting in person those who will later be involved in his life development. Onyev, the Makalo who Nicole now seeks is one such identity. The absolute feeling of dejavu Nicole gets when she first sets eyes on Onyev, however inexplicable is enough to tell her she has arrived at the right place. Onyev's immediate reaction upon setting eyes on Nicole shows he knows the importance of their meeting too.
What Onyev first tells her after greeting her by her first name before she ever even thinks to give it, that long ago he'd approved all the intended Guardians, something which occurred long before even her distant relatives were born, will take some time to settle in and be realised. As suggested in the previous book, Shonlin had been establish as a means to guard the use of all magical items regardless of the realm they pertain to or exist in; Onyev should know, it was he who designed and built the system. Although it had yet to occur, there was always going to be an interaction between Nicole and the Great Ones.
As the original possessors of magic it was them that ultimately allowed aspects of their magic to become ingrained with the essences of the various magical beings. How Nicole conducted herself when magic has been involved, including her experiences with the Great Ones is the quality of person Onyev had intended for the role of Guardian of Shonlin. The news that even for her the library of Shonlin has the capacity to harm permanently and/or kill her is a lump to swallow. As is the news that her Guardian status is linked directly to the purity of her heart and intentions, and it extends past this lifetime.
With further milestones achieved, Nicole mentally grasps a skill associated with glass and her earth element, her dedication to further her repertoire of elemental channeling leads her back to Katon and Tess; the tester who'd signed off on a 'D' for her first attempt at the testing characteristics necessary for being signed off at the level of mastered. Tess, seeing that the latest ability Nicole had taught herself regarding the manipulations of glass molecules could be generalised to all eart modalities, suggests the progression of performance on an off-the-books attempt, actually had plavved counting the results to her required test characteristics as met with a resounding 'A'. Unfortunately, the new responsibilities of mastery doesn't stop at Katon, it also sees Nicole being tested in her new Guardian role.
Unbeknownst at the time, she uses her newly realised abilities to recover a troublesome artifact that's been preventing direct 'keying' to Shonlin thinking it would aid them if she needs to access Shonlin frequently or in a rush. The ramifications are allowed to play out by other entities associated with Shonlin, but this fast becomes a serious danger as Shonlin comes under attack. Nicole and Lizzie are awoken by the weakening guardian on the fifth floor as he calls them to urgently travel to Shonlin to aid in its defence. Both girls are seriously hurt, with Nicole being attacked when her poeers eere exhausted, and Lizzie works past her threshold leading to unconsciousness.
Although hardly accurate in the scheme of things it is nice to see Nicole encountering and having to deal with the sorts of obstacles that aren't inherently linked to some enormous magical boss type challenge. The type where massive numbers, like the Tarians, or enormous magic unable to be challenged, like the Great Ones, create insurmountable odds of success. Admittedly, Keitus is hardly a spring chicken in the scheme of things, but he is nonetheless still a background problem slowly rising. The challenges of Obscure are no less dangerous and have ultimately taken a toll, but they are closer to the sorts of problems that are an every other week event for Nicole.
They're not only taking her to new frontiers, they're also the types of challenges where she has the necessary skill set to complete. Its entertaining to unravel and see her and her friends coordinate giant efforts to take on the largest fiends where not everyone will live to see their success, but its also nice to have those broken up by lesser scaled challenges where her usage of her powers is sufficient and provides magical and heroine growth. You can't let this view shape your opinions of how important and dangerous it is to take on said challenges as undoubtedly it just one such battle that she faces that brings her closest to death that she's ever come.
Out of the frying pan and into the fire often seems to be the most accurate anecdote for the life Nicole's led since she first began channeling her elemental birthright. Indeed, no sooner has one episode finished, another has wormed it's way into the list of things Nicole needs to quickly learn how to manage and/or deal with. If someone was to suggest to her that her upcoming paths and struggles were to bring her face-to-face with the original magical beings she'd been forced to learn how to survive, she'd likely float between wanting to flea as fast as her legs can carry her, to hoping that the being's natural predator and big brother was not among the challenges; or that if they were that they'd be too busy trying to kill one another to pay any attention to her and her friends. For readers of the series its likely they'll guess the initial foe, Agarchs like those encountered at Arches National Park, and Shoggoths, the much larger predator that showed up to kill the Agarchs dwelling in the underground city.
There'd been a degree of righteousness in the deaths of the Agarchs due to their enslavement by the Shoggoths, given they'd been the ones to enslave the Aretes Nicole and friends were seeking to free. Once again our group of magical protectors will face a similar challenge, save that they're more worldly travelled and hopefully wiser this time round, but they also cannot expect the appearance of a greater foe to kill the smaller danger they face: leaving a significantly greater risk in sheer numbers alone and from the exceptionally more hostile environment. The task of keeping Keitus from collecting the three remaining talismans just got as dangerous, if not more than, taking on Keitus in outright battle: what nearly killed several of their group during the previous book.
Andrea's imagination exemplified by her books shows the capscity to grow characters from the smallest impressions to long past the stage when you can say you know them. The growth of abilities and personalities never seems to stop. Just when you think you've got it worked out something else comes along that sends you back to the drawing board. The scope of the ever growing worlds where these stories occur is the other stsnd-out feature of her storytelling. I can only imagine how large the story archetype is to create such a detailed awareness of things happening across time and space. Fortunately most books haven't finished on the cliffhangers common to serials and series, although there is a partial one herein. As with the first five books of the Mosaic Chronicles which had the same foe(s) building in momentum, this and book six now seem to be doing something similar again. As to whether Enshroud, book eight will see the next conclusion is something that'll need to be experienced.
Ok, some background here. I loved the first five Mosaic Chronicles books. When I finished the last of those (the excellent Reclaim) I was both pleased with how things were tied together and a bit bummed that there were no more. I put it on my tickler to check periodically to see if additions were written and then (confession time) forgot to do that. My bad - but the good thing is that when I finally did check there were three more bits of goodness to enjoy, Conceal, Obscure and Enshroud.
I've now gone on a major binge read (the advantage, or disadvantage (?) of being on vacation and having the time to do so) and read Conceal, Obscure and Enshroud in a (relatively) single sitting. I had not planned to do so but they were too tasty to not do so. They even crossed over terrifically with Andrea Pearson's excellent Kilenya series (though you don't need to have read those to enjoy these books - the crossover is extra sweetener).
I note all this 'cause that's in effect my review: if you enjoyed the other Mosaic books (and if you've not read them you've really got to - you're missing something really great) and like addictively good, fun reads, then all three of these books are definitely "must reads" and highly recommended.
GRAB A HOLD AND HANG ON!!! I can say one thing with absolute honesty. Andrea doesn't pull any punches. This was as kickass as the rest of this series. The scenes, characters, the locations, all of it was so realistic and spot on. I was so engrossed in this read I couldn't put it down until the very last word. The twists and surprises just kept coming, keeping my attention and focus on the pages. Andrea's insight and imagination is out of this world. I don't know where she gets her inspiration but I am totally sold. She has such talent that this just seems so effortless and smooth. Once again I'm in awe. Incredible job Andrea.
Nicole and her crew go after another talisman. With their powers getting stronger will they find getting this one any easier? I don't think so!! The author, Andrea Pearson has put in some new problems for the crew to solve. This series is so exciting. I read the book as fast as I can. There is always a new problem for Nicole to solve and she eventually does, even at the cost of some private, personal pain, not only for her but also or her friends. Adventure, travel, love, mystery, what more could you want in a book.
Obscure is the seventh book of the Mosaic Chronicles series and the second merging with the world built in the Kilenya series. Once again, I truly enjoyed the book. I could barely put it down. The action barely left time to breathe and some very unexpected things happened. I never dreamed it would end like it did. I highly recommend reading this book and the whole Mosaic Chronicles series (read the Kilenya series first for full enjoyment)!
I can't believe that I read Obscure in two days! This is a blending of two series, Kilenya Chronicles and Mosaic Chronicles, that really spice up the story. You just can't believe how much trouble the friends get into trying to find the amulets before Keitus does. Suspenseful and a real delight to read. Now I'm ready for the next book in the series! *I received a free eBook copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Nicole finally has the fire talisman, but now they have to get the next one. They must travel back and forth between worlds and Nicole finds out she is a guardian of magical items. With some trails and setbacks, can they get the next talisman before Keitus? This another great world building book from Andrea. You really get the sense that you are there with the characters! I can't wait to read the next book.
Nicole and Lizzie set out on the first adventure of their own to save Shonlin, the land of magical items. However this is only one of the adventures in the multilayered plot of the seventh installment of the Mosaic Chronicles where Andrea Pearson beautifully blends this series with that of her Kilenya series. The book of course stands on its own but to enrich your enjoyment do pick up Kilenya!
Epic adventure. Still loving the story and the characters. Plot twists and turns with all sorts of inventive magic, horrifying monsters and truly evil adversaries.
Pretty good!!! The twist at the end is so unexpected!!! All Nicole’s been collecting were replicas?!! Who would’ve thought? Especially since the replica really did work to hide Akeno and Nicole when they were walking through the Agarchs.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
With Obscure you really get your moneys worth. Lots of action and adventure. Nicole and company find all kinds of prickly situations they have to find creative ways to wiggle out of. It really keeps the reader on tiptoes trying to figure out what will happen next. Ms Pearson truly knows how to make those twists and turns keep turning. Love that this book is a mix with Kilenya Chronicles but not necessary to have read it. Now on to book eight.
A great read. Nicole is coming more into her magic. She must face off with a dangerous person from her past. This Author really does a great job at bringing the Characters personalities out. And as you read she brings out the scenes so vividly. A definite must read. Shauna Joesten
As you can see from the title, this is the 7th book in a series. I'm all out of order, because I have read the 1st book, and the 6th book, and part of the second book, and now this one. What you should understand by that is, I really like this series, you can read them in order or not, and you should still really enjoy this series. The series had been renamed, it was the Katon University Series. I wanted you to know that because if you were following it before and got lost, you found it now!
It's time to hunt down talismans. Nichole is a Guardian of magical objects, and that is not an easy task. It's hard, it can have consequences. Others have died, or had other things happen to them. Even so, Nichole, Jacob and Austin, along with some others, have big things ahead of them as they hunt these items down. Just try to imagine needing to locate an entire race of beings! Ready, set, and they're off!
Keitus is the villain, a super ancient bad guy. He isn't going to be easy to deal with in any way, shape, or form.
The ending: It's well done, but a bit abrupt and cliffhanger like. However, I have other books in this series to go read, so I can get caught up before the 8th book comes out. That, I have decided, is a very good thing.
My copy is an ARC in exchange for my honest review, and nothing more.
Book 7 – Obscure I received a free advance copy of this book from the author in return for honest feedback. I had intended to be caught up on the full Kilenya series as well as all previous Mosaic series books before this book officially published, but alas - life got in the way. Having only read books one through three in the Kilenya series along with books one and two in the Mosaic series when I read this, I was happy to re-meet multiple characters as they merged from both series. Update 2016-10-26 I re-read this story after finishing everything I hadn’t already read from the Kilenya and Mosaic Chronicles series. While it was a great story when I didn’t have all that background, it was truly awesome once I had all the other background. This story is best read after having already read the other stories in both series.
"Obscure" is the 7th book in the Mosaic Chronicles series (previously the series was named Katon University.) The book deals with a race to locate, and protect, a magical item. It is somewhat hard to explain without a lot of backstory, but suffice it to say that a bad guy is attempting to gather 4 magical items in order to conquer the world. "Obscure" deals with the team’s attempt to recover one of these items and put it where it can do no harm. In the process, they travel to various worlds (through magical means), encounter adventures, danger, and (in one case) relationship problems. I have very much enjoyed the book and the series and look forward to the next entry. The characters are well written, the scenes are well described and resonated with me so I could imagine what was happening easily.
Obscure is book 7 in the series the Mosaic Chronicles but can be read as a stand alone, although you will want to read the others and discover what happens. We join the group on their journey to search for magical talismans across time and planets, racing to retrieve them before the evil Keitus can collect them . There is a cliffhanger regarding Keitus,
Even in a time when world hopping is commonplace, cell phones still have spotty coverage, greed causes people to do very bad things, teenagers still eat more than any other age group, and appreciate junk food, and talking about parents can get mixed responses. There is humor among a great storyline. This is a friendship adventure.
Another hit in the Mosaic Chronicles series. Once again Andrea Pearson, grabs your attention and runs with it, letting your experience emotions of despair, joy, sorrow, fear, hate, love and many more. That is the great skill this author has, making lives and adventures jump off the pages. I don't like spoilers, so will try my best. In this book I felt that it was more about Nicole herself, and god bless him Austin her boyfriend proves so much loyalty to her, I just want to experience more depth of their relationship and give them the time to develop it more. If you have been reading the Mosaic Chronicles series, you won't be disappointed with this tale. All the main characters show up and some from previous but all together there goals are the same. Can't wait for book 8
Another amazing installment in The Mosaic Chronicles by Andrea Pearson. I didn't want to put it down! The story gets going right away and I was completely involved from the first page. Nicole has to figure out where the next talisman is and retrieve it before the evil Keitus does. She has one talisman safely secured...three more to find. There are lots of surprises along the way, and several twists and turns. Nicole is even attacked by a killer foe and there seems to be no way out. You have to read this and find out what happens! Do the good guys come out with the next talisman in the end? Can't tell you, but you'll love finding out in this book!
A great read. I received a copy for an honest review. I was surprised that an old enemy I thought was gone, is back. They didn't fight him yet, but I am sure they will in the future? But the energy in this book is outstanding, it just kept going. There was no time to stop what you were doing before something else was happening. I love it. Nicole is stronger, Jacob is stronger and Lizzie, wow. I am glad she is now part of the group. Amazing. Keep it up Andrea. When will we get to see what happens with the real talisman and the fake talisman and all the other missing ones, and where did their enemy go?
Andrea gave me a copy and asked for my honest review. I hadn't read any of the rest of the series before I read Obscure, which I read in one sitting. I didn't plan to, but once I started I had to keep reading. The characters were fascinating people I could identify with. Even though they were in extraordinary circumstances, they behaved like normal people would. Even the mistakes they made were rational and realistic. They had the same kind of worries and weaknesses that the rest of us do. This made the book feel real and alive for me. I really enjoyed this visit to another reality. Now I really have to read the other books Andrea has written!
I was given an advance copy of this book in exchange for an early review. So while this is being posted shortly after the book being available for sale, I have read it. This is book 7 of a series, but if you don't want to read the whole series it stands alone as a good story. The Mosaic series varies from books that are intense and clearly a battle between Good and evil and stories that are a lighter read and serve to provide depth to the characters. This is one of those later stories. The characters are fun and the story is one that reads extremely quickly. This book is well worth the read. The time distortion makes an interesting tweak in the story.
An excellent read with a cliffhanger ending. This book is definitely part of a series and a wonderful addition it is. The team flies back into action to secure the second talisman. Their journeys are again full of peril ,pain, and magic. Time is seriously disrupted. I was shocked (in a good way) at some of the twists and turns I encountered throughout this book. I had an "Alien" flashback that creeped me out. Definitely an adventure with romance firmly in the background. A clean read with no swearing. It does have a little gore, a little kissing and some hand holding. I cannot wait for the next installment of The Mosaic Chronicles!!!

Received this book free for an honest review. ~ Aww, come on! I can't take this anymore. This series is totally addicting and I started feeling withdrawal symptoms ever since I turned the last page and read the last word! OMG! What happened? I need to know! Ugh! Okay, okay, let me get my bearings together. Breathe... Huhhh. Whew. Okay, that's better. That being said and done--if you don't like cliffhangers, then this series isn't for you. But trust me, It's definitely worth it! Start with the first book, 'Discern' and work your way here... while I take a moment to Zen out! :0)
On her quest, Nicole is bitten by a vampire bird. Close to death, she’s saved by the natives that hold her captive. Nicole needs to heal, escape and get back to her quest to retrieve the magic talismans. She’s already retrieved one but the next one is on another world. Will she get back to her friends, will their help be enough to get her to the other world? Will she have enough strength and magic to complete the task? Obscure is very fast paced, action packed adventure that will keep you on the edge of your seat.
In today's world of self-published authors, who have all the attendant spelling and grammatical errors, Andrea Pearson is a welcome entry. Her writing never fails to captivate my attention, and leaves me wanting more when I'm done. Her latest book, Obscure, is no different.
Obscure continues the story of Nicole, Austin, Lizzie and Jacob. While Nicole is the main character, I am excited to see some of the others come more into the spotlight as the story progresses. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of her works, and will snap them up as soon as they become available to me.
