Henry Weston can’t take it anymore. Lately, his job with the Alliance seems to be less about protecting shifters from their enemies, and more about surveilling his own people and making sure they don’t break any Alliance rules. This is not what he signed up for, so it’s time for him to make a change. There’s only one problem: his mate and colleague Margaret isn’t on board at all, in fact they can’t seem to agree on anything lately.
Meanwhile, Alliance leader Adrian Blacke’s new assistant, Gail McPherson is having similar trouble adjusting to her job. The ideals that made her join the Alliance don’t match up with her day-to-day reality and she yearns for something else.
When the two of them meet, sparks fly, and they even start to hear each other’s thoughts, like only true mates can. But Henry already has a mate whom he wants to remain loyal to, despite their disagreements. If Henry and Gail can’t be lovers, at least they can be allies in a new cause: forming a New Alliance. What ensues is a battle between sense and emotion; loyalty and fate.
This paranormal romance novella is the fifth in the Scottish Werebear series. For the best experience, readers are advised to read the series in order.

Henry the sanctimonious idiot, Gail, and Margaret the Nazi. I have always wanted to read a story where an already mated shifter comes across their 'true' mate. So I was excited to see how it would spin out. This author is a pro at keeping the angst low so I wasn't too worried about the love triangle (which I normally hate). So, Blacke's hidden agenda is on a roll and Henry knows it is wrong. So he plans to start a counter movement called the 'New Alliance'. Gail is Blacke's assistant and also disagree's with his prejudices and 'purist' dogma. She know's Henry is her true mate as soon as they meet. But why won't he acknowledge it? They can even share thoughts. Then she finds out that Henry already has a mate, Margaret, whom he was shacked up with for the past 2 years. Soooo 2 years living with a woman who is a b*tch at best is enough to refuse your true mate??? Apparently in Henry's mind. And imho, it got worse and didn't get better til too late (95%). Not nearly enough grovelling. A man that obtuse can not make a good leader. Safety Only 1 star because I was so unhappy with the romance and henry. The intrigue was ok. I'll listen to the next one because I already own it...
A Painful Dilemma sometimes a mating is not as strong and another options is necessary. Henry Weston & Gail McPherson had me a bit lost as to how the mating was going to work. I was excited and then confused. I do enjoy the way it all worked out. I could feel the conflicted interest that both Henry and Gail had about he jobs they were to do compared to what the job should have been.
This one didn't work for me at all. Before starting I wasn't sure I would like this , but for a whole different reason. I'm not a big fan of supernatural coming out to normal people. I thought this would be such a story. The hero meant to announce their existence but he never got around to do it. So my reason for not liking this something entirely different. It was the hero and how he reacted to finding his fated mate. In a society with a fated mates like this, I'm sure people should be more open and accepting to finding their true mates.Even if they are already with someone else, there is always the possibility of meeting their true mate. This one was a in relationship with his colleague (who wasn't his fated mate) for 2 years. After finding his true mate he never acknowledged it and never told his partner about the mate. But stayed with the partner ignoring the whole thing but it was never stated if he loved the partner or if he was even attracted to her physically anymore. Just that he wanted to do the right thing!Which wasn't the right thing at all! But of course he could't hide it and this made his partner suspicious and finally she followed them to a work related situation and assumed there was something more to it. Still the hero didn't explain to her what was going on,the girls got in a fight and the hero (more like a villain IMO) shot the partner with a tranquilizer and put her unconscious body in the back of the van and then the h&h went to her house and had sex while the ex was in the back of the van!!!! and said ILYs !!!! The author tried very hard to show the partner as the villain but I didn't feel it at all. She might have had a stick up her butt and followed the rules of her workplace without any doubt but that was her only problem. This was definitely a painful book to listen to!

REVIEW
*May contain spoilers *
We met Henry in the previous book. He works for the Alliance, which is run by Adrian Blacke. Henry is having some issues however doing things that he has been handed. He does not want to bring Matt in just because he is in love with a human. What is so wrong with inter-species being mated? After a talk with his mother, he changes the entire path he once set out for himself.
Maggie is his live in love and things although not perfect they have managed. But something just is not right. Maggie is not on his side in his mission to change things. Why?
Henry meets Gail and all things he thought were right no longer feel that way. However, Henry is a loyal man so where does this new finding leave him? What path will Henry choose?
Well grab your copy and get reading. I highly suggest you begin with the first book in this series. There were some grammar issues in this book but none that took away from the story.
I was gifted a copy of this book for my honest review. Lorelei Moone
This one frustrated me because it feels like it goes against the world building. If they believe in fated mates, why would Henry have gotten together with Maggie?
The darkening trend in the alliance is also too close to reality as it stands in the world right now. Makes it less of an escape read.
Re-reading the entire series. This is a series that can be re-read, and enjoyed every time. Loved the new twists and turns that unfolded in this book of the series. It can be a read alone, but makes much more sense to read the series and in order. Perfect ending, enjoyed the lead up to it.
In this addition to the series Henry follows his heart in one area but not another. He believes with his body and soul that Alliance is the best thing that has happened in his world. He became an agent to help his fellow sifters only to find they are now turning on themselves all because one man wants control. He starts looking into issues when he is asked to spy on his fellow bears only to find things he doesn’t like. He finds a kindling spirit in Gail along with wants and needs he doesn’t understand. He has a mate but what he feels for Gail is stronger. Leaving him wondering what in the world is going on in his head.
Mr. Blackthorne’s narration was very good with interesting character voices that blends well with the story. His male voices are just as good as his female’s one. You always know who is talking and what their emotions are. There was one place where I could tell the volume changed just enough that you could tell if you were listening. I am guessing this is when a break was taken. Other than that the volume was very even throughout the audio. There are no background noises this is a very clear and clean audio. Mr. Blackthorne has a very nice voice his normal voice is just as great as his characters ones. I have to say for a man he does a very lovely female voice. His voice did pull me in making me feel comfortable and right at home. I had no trouble picturing when Clarice first sees the bear and feeling her emotions. The author does an outstanding job with the passionate scenes really giving the first night of love true emotions. I haven’t had the pleasure of listening to his work but to look forward to listening to more of it.
Gail takes one look at Henry and said MATE but Henry is taken. They agree to work together for the cause and keep their feeling in check. Gail has troubles of her own with her job and disrespectful agents. She fights her own battles, is a strong women but very caring.
As these two put the feeling on the back burner they find the leader might not be all that he said he is. He wants to do things that in the long run will hurt those under him and might bring the whole shifter race to death. This is short, sweet filled with a little action and lots of emotion. You wonder what will happen to all the shifters as well as Henry’s mate as she turns the tables against him making a few demands that will rip his heart out. It was interesting to see how this plays out with all the twists and turns the author gives you a very interesting read.
•Progress Henry a bear shifter wanted to do more for the WERE-community as a whole. He didn't think arresting their own kind was the right move just because their chosen mate wasn't the same species. After all, they didn't choose their mates, fate did that for them. He really started thinking about it after the head of the Alliance sent him to spy on Matt and Leah after Matt returned home. However he doesn't know how to start, other than he knew Matt would be on his side when the time came. Although Maggie was his co-worker and the mate he'd chosen, he wasn't sure she'd be on his side with this, she followed any order that was given to her and felt strongly that they should not only stay within their own species, but that they should stay hidden in secret. Henry on the other side feels they're playing right into The Sons of Domnall's hands by keeping silent. Henry also didn't like the new program Blacke was trying to implement Project Safeguard, putting tracking devices in young shifters could easily be misused. Who would be on his side and who would be against him? Gail's a bear shifter and her new job as the assistant for Blacke, the head of the Alliance wasn't what she expected and just a week in she knew she hated it. She understood arresting those that were involved with The Sons of Domnall, but arresting WERE's just because they broke some ridiculous secrecy rule, that's going overboard. She also didn't want to be a part of any torture interrogation. Then she noticed him transporting new prisoners and instantly knew he was her chosen mate, only he acted like she didn't exist. Everything she'd been told growing up was that the feeling would be mutual when they finally met, how could he just ignore her, didn't he feel the pull too? Now she had to help her boss distribute the information on his new pet project ~ Project Safeguard which could easily be misused, and she didn't like it. She didn't trust his intentions, but what could she do about it? When Gail and Henry met again in his office they both realized they can telepathically communicate, they both agree Blacke needs to be stopped. But how are they going to accomplish it and who's on their side? Humans are afraid of what they don't know, would they be as acceptable as they hope? You'll have to read Scottish Werebears: A Painful Dilemma to find out, but it'll be worth the time you take to read it! I can't wait to read Book 5 Scottish Werebear: A Second Chance to find out what happens next! Each of these novellas are a quick read and could be read as a standalone HEA, but I recommend reading the complete series in order to get the little tidbits of background information on everything. I received an ARC copy via IndieSage in exchange for a blog tour review. Due to sexual content this novel is recommended for readers 17 and older!
It was interesting but I couldn't have a feel for it. Henry finds is mate but knowing he has a girlfriend type mate sharing the same place of work and home. He become more mean in a way towards Gail and separated from Maggie when he convinces himself that he Maggie more because they been together for two years. He don't know everything about his gf because she has a whole different view point then he has and he was hoping for her to side with him. He wants Blacke out of business because he is pushing for purity in the shifter lines, anyone with a human mate will have to be held for 'questioning' and newborns and full blooded will be chipped against the people's wishes. So yay Henry has a point to shifters to keep their values and come out to the public. Henry will reject Gail numerous times even when Maggie gave him an ultimatum, her or his brainchild 'New Alliance' also losing Gail in the deal... guess one he picked?... His spoiled jealous gf. That's right kicked is real mate to the curve and be with Maggie but she won't have anything to do with Henry but will manipulate Henry when she sees its right, even dragging his pro elderly mother, just.to keep Henry in her grasps.
I have loved all of the books in this series, but this book about Henry wasn't my favorite. He seemed weak. When Henry and Gail finally get together and he admits his feelings, it was kind of rushed at the very end of the book. There was no sextual tension between them, as Henry kept ignoring her and was too stupid to know that if they can speak telepathically, then she was his true mate. He basically ignored Gail, and just treated her as a recruit in his fight against the Alliance. Gail on the other hand, I really loved. She was strong, and never waivered in her beliefs, and immediately agreed to stand up for what was right, to fight the Alliance. The scene in the bathroom where she breaks down was heart wrenching. I was given a copy of this book for an honest review.
I really had a hard time with this one. Henry has been working for the alliance against the sons of Domnall. But as things are progressing it hard to figure out which is worse. The Sons or the alliance. The leader of the alliance is doing some really shady things like he wants all young shifters tagged. WTF is he thinking. Even his one secretary cannot condone some of the things he is doing. But then there is the issue of Gail she knows immediately Henry is her mate. But he will not acknowledge it to her. You see he already has a mate and well shifters mate for life. And he is so confused as what to do. Heck I was to and when he did figure it out it moved way to fast. And then they had to figure out how to stop Blacke. But these books are short fun reads.
Great read! I love reading Lorelei Moone's books. I love the series. Your feelings go from stress, anxiety, love, caring, and feeling protective. Henry is a good man and wants to do the right thing. Gail is a strong, and never waivered in her beliefs, and immediately agreed to stand up for what was right. Can both Henry and Gail help the Alliance to break free? And are both soulmates? I can't wait to read your next awesome book. Definitely a must have!
This is book #5 of this series. So far they are quick stand alone books with the theme. They are all connected by the Alliance in some way. Henry is working for the Alliance. He meets a woman that he has an instant connection with. He already has Maggie, his "mate". Gail recognizes her mate at first sight. How does Henry ignore this? Will Gail and Henry find each other? I received this book in exchange for an honest review from IndieSagePR.
An ARC was given to me for an honest review. Sometimes doing the right thing is painful. Especially when you ignore yourself and your mate's feelings. What do you decide to do when you know those directives are wrong. This is getting serious because their Alliance leader has crossed the line. And they need to figure out how to handle the problem. Enjoy I did.
Number five in the series is just as good as the rest, Each book in the series continues the series, and each book is different from the others. I love this series. In this series, the organization leader is trying hard to go in a different and seriously bad direction. I received this book free in exchange for an honest review.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I have also read all the other werebears books and loved them. This one is a bit more explicit than the others but is very enjoyable.
The ranks of the alliance are starting to split. Henry can no longer look the other way. Gail does what she must but being the assistant to Black is destroying her. His plans for shifters has gone to extremes, but who will stop him.
