Never mix business with pleasure. Scrap that. Never mix pleasure with pleasure. Scrap that too. Never set people up for pleasure. Keep that. If you wanna keep your friendship, that is.

As a short story, there’s little else to say. Recommendations may be well intended, but if they don’t work out, well what can you do? Especially if the reason for it not working out is a big one.

The setting was different at least. Set in Zambia and involving the events around a bonding ceremony. I’m one of the first to review this so I’m hoping to see how others understood it. I didn’t get the point of the dogs. If they weren’t going to help with any retribution, why bother with them at all? Suffice to say, I didn’t really get the point.

This is my third Namwali Serpell read. It was enjoyable while it lasted but not as good as The Old Drift or The Furrows. Hopefully the fourth one will be more like the others as they were tops.
