Caitlin is the latest in a long line of healers and she has been most fortunate to have grown up in the home of an eccentric uncle on the Isle of Skye. Today, however, she finds herself residing in the upper Highlands of Scotland and is about to wed the Highlander, Alex, oldest of the MacKinnon brothers. The date is set and the time is near. However, not all members of this clan of brothers are happy about this union that is to take place. One of them, Jack, has seen this healer exhibit some unusual magickal powers when in a stressful situation. In fact, he witnessed a soldier and an English Lord as they both became targets of her exceptional powers —and both were destroyed completely. What if she uses these powers and brings danger to the entire family? Can she control them? This brother is not afraid of much, but this woman, tiny though she may be, has him losing sleep wondering what disasters she may bring to all of them. Not only that, but she travels with a wolf — a huge, black wolf that never leaves her side. Should they fear him? And what about her eccentric uncle — he too has performed some feats that have the brothers wondering about him as well. However, the person who most wants to stop this union is Deirdre, the Highland lass who is convinced that Alex should belong to her. Her devious plan to stop it takes all of them on a harrowing and spine tingling journey that demands they accept many situations they do not understand and cannot prevent. Alex is determined to wed this lass and believes her to be exactly what he has been waiting for. However, when he discovers her standing in the Circle of Stones, even he finds himself questioning his plans. His mam had always believed only the "called" should enter the circle, but was Caitlin called? What did that really mean? As for Caitlin, the Circle of Stones calls to her more every day and until she can find out the reason for this, she will continue to visit the circle and Alex finds this disconcerting. But the most frightening event of all is when a member of the clan itself begins to exhibit magickal powers as well. What now?
Another book that is not to my enjoyment. I do not like this series. The next book better be spectacular for my review to get better. I hate the endings of these stories. They leave a reader hanging in the air. The next story will be the last that I will read by this lady..
This book started slowly, and because of that I had a hard time getting into it. Part of it was the author’s reviews of everything that happened in the first book. It was a bit stilted and somewhat tedious for me.
However, the story is a very good one, and once it began I enjoyed it. It begins with planning 2 weddings: Alex & Caitlin and Jack & Millie. The tale is wrought with danger and kept me turning pages. Many surprises as well as revelations of secrets filled out the story.
I recommend this, but of course suggest reading book one first. I always try to do that when reading a series.
This is book 2 in this series. Another awesome read which kept me engrossed from beginning to end. In this book Caitlan is in the highlands with Alex and his brothers. She and Alex are to wed. Now Alex knows she has some unusual powers but has learned to accept them. They do have their problems however and there are really some tense moments and Caitlan also finds the Circle of Stones on their property and she is drawn to it. Doesn't know why quite yet but figures she will figure it out. Highly recommend.
As noted by others, it is a “clean romance” lacking graphic sexual scenes. It also has good plot and character development. I would still probably list it as “chick” reading.
I’d recommend this series to anyone who has a fascination for Scotland and historical fiction. There are mystical and religious themes running deeply throughout but the most important is that of familial relationships.
Once again a superb write, holding the reader to every page, sentence and word. A wonderful book continuing on from book 1, the story just makes me keep returning for more!
I enjoyed the first book in this series so much that I couldn't wait for this one. It was worth the wait! Ms. Karsner takes us on an extraordinary journey that we won't soon forget. I highly recommend this pleasurable read and will once again be waiting for the next book.
A well written, engagng story. Even though it's second in a series, stands on it's own. Would make a great film or T.V. series. Magic, drama, romance, good triumphing over evil in a package that leaves the reader wanting more.
Story was good enough. The author was a little repetitive at times. Would have liked the conflict between Kathryn and Alex to have been discussed with eachvotherbinstead of stated from each characters point of view but never hashed out.
