Far away from home in New York City, Catherine Urwin lives a life of servants, idle chatter, and submissiveness to her wicked guardian Francis Hortbury. When her painting class is interrupted by local gangsters, she becomes drawn into a series of events that leads her back to England and back into the world of Theodore Norlong and his political adversary Sir John Calderdale.
Meanwhile, London is gripped by fear. A series of brutal murders have left Whitechapel in shock. Owen Norlong watches on, like everyone else, but when Sir John intervenes, he is forced into a world he never wanted to be a part of, a world he ran away from. With Sir John on the point of becoming prime minister, Catherine and Owen become embroiled in a story that could bring down both their families. But as love slowly blossoms, will Owen be able to capture Catherine’s heart?
James Farner is a professional writer and draws upon his love of fiction and his love of stories that span generations. His signature series Made in Yorkshire was born out of a desire to find out ‘what happened next?’
At the end of every good film, book, or TV show the characters disappear and that’s the end of them. James isn’t alone in the desire to find out what happened to the characters afterwards.
This is how Made in Yorkshire appeared. Starting from 1953 and driving on to the modern day, James explores the different eras of Britain through his colourful cast of characters.
Prior to writing fiction, he enjoyed a career as a freelance writer. His writing has appeared online, in magazines, and in a variety of other publications.
When not writing, he can be found sketching, watching sports, and playing the tin whistle.
Well I just finished #5, so the series has just enough of my curiosity that I will continue on to the last one. I find the writing on the corny side and quite stilted.
Great Book! A very necessary read if you have read the others in the series. This one was also very well written. I felt like I was watching from a safe distance away all of the action that was happening. It even triggered a dream one night about two of the characters. I can not say that about other books I have read. I hope that there will be more to this series because the ending got me very emotional again.
Things aren't going well for our friends when book #5 begins. The storyline focuses largely on the offspring this time around. Book #6 is due to be published in July so we will have to wait and see if we get a "happily ever after" or a book #7!
