I bought this short and sweet book at a stall at the Spurn Migration Festival. It’s full of interesting facts about the sweeping swallow, from how they fly, sleep, and feed, to where they migrate to, and, what I found particularly interesting, the folklore surrounding them. For example: Who knew that cutting off a head of a swallow at a full moon (oh, and it has to be one that’s been feeding in the morning), and tied in a linen bag and hung up to dry, then ground up and taken would cure headaches! 🤷‍♂️ (Surely by the time you’ve accomplished all that, your headache would’ve gone anyway…)
