I only read the first two stories and the beginning of the third before I finally conceded that there were no hidden gems in this anthology. The first story read like a really bad Twilight fanfiction. The second story must've been written while the author was watching Game of Thrones as there were so many similarities it, too, could've been a fan based story of the George RR Martin series: dire wolves, the airie (Eyrie), evil deities, the super-fast pregnancy, it never seemed to end.
Bad plots, worse character interactions, this collection is a horrid mess!
The Surrogates: The complete Shape shifted Romance Collection
Five story of love over coming every to. Book 1: The Alphas Surrogate - the love story of Richard and Reign. Book 2: The Bear's Surrogate - the love story of Rachel and Valemon. Book 3: The Dragon's Surrogate - the love story of Tasha and Dane. Book 4: The Lion's Surrogate - the love story of Torrance and Amy. Book 5: The Pantger's Surrogate - the love story of Kheem and Josie. All great love stories.
Once I started this series, I found that it was hard to stop reading it. This series can be read as stand-alone books. I loved all of them and was sad when they each finished as I was left wanting more. Brilliant books and storyline and characters to fall in love with.
I was expecting cheese. I got cheese. Met expectations. However, the bear story was slightly deeper into the mythology that I didn’t know. Called my Norwegian friend to pronounce some of the words for me. :)
Exciting set of exciting shifter surrogate romance books. Having an island of many shifter clans leads to distrust, fighting yet also other realize how important love is. I look forward to reading future books by this author
The following two reviews are for stories in this box set I have previously read, and for which I received a copy in exchange for an honest review.
Review For: The Alpha's Surrogate 5-Stars I absolutely loved this book. It is very well written and the author has added so much to the story that the title doesn’t do it justice. Richard has lost many of his pack members because of fighting and, more importantly, the blight which has rendered the females infertile. Fate brings into his life Reign, but she is a human, and there are those who do not want her to live. A strong pack bond helps in times of trouble and Reign’s exceptional strong will, determination and spirit for the man she loves knows no bounds. The author has put together an extremely fascinating and thrilling story, not only of love, but of magic and the ways of the Fade. If you are interested in reading shifter books, this is one that should not be missed.
Review For: The Bear's Surrogate – 5-Stars The author has really excelled herself, as this was an extremely exciting and totally enthralling story. Rachel, while on an expedition to an isolated island, comes into contact with both dire wolves and a white bear, which both focus in her future life, though she doesn’t know this at the time. When agreeing to be a surrogate to Valemon she doesn’t know the danger she is in from the dire wolves and the raging war between them, and Valemon, the last in the line of the white bears. Rachel soon conceives, but is captured and it is only with the outside help of an intermediary that is she is able to protect her baby and is eventually rescued, but this in itself brings added problems; a compromise is eventually made between the bears and the wolves. This was an extremely interesting story about shifters, and I would have no hesitation in recommending it.
I was really excited to read this series because of how much I enjoyed the first book of the series. So I bought the boxed set based on that. I enjoyed rereading the first book, The Alpha's Surrogate. It is a nice, full story with Richard and Reign. **** Book 2: The Bear's Surrogate - while a pleasant story, I felt it lacked the fullness and romance of the first book. I did love the ending, though. I really liked Fenrir, and I would like to see him in a story of his own. *** Book 3: The Dragon's Surrogate - I really disliked Tasha in the beginning. It wasn't until probably halfway through the book that I began to not dislike her. And it wasn't until the end that I was okay with her. I did like Dane most of the time. This story was fairly decent. 2.5 stars. Book 4: The Lion's Surrogate - This one was really hard for me. I didn't much like the hero or the heroine, the only secondary characters that I really liked were Amy's roommates. It just hit me as a wannabe story. Amy screamed at everything and threw temper tantrums. That was a huge turn off for me. I can understand panic attacks. I have them myself! I did like how she was determined to protect her baby and how in the end it was HER baby. LOL 2.5 stars Book 5: The Panther's Surrogate - This one started out a little slow and took a bit to get to the good stuff. And I'm talking the story. I'm not about the sex. I like the story AND the intimacy. When Josie comes back with little Ony the doo doo really hits the fan. The best part is how Josie and Kheem never let the jerks and youknowwhats get them down. They only become stronger as a couple and more determined. **** I didn't take anything off for editing or other mistakes. Because, personally, I can skip over that stuff. Once I get into the flow, I don't even notice. There were some minor ones, but they no way detracted from the stories. I do recommend the set.
I tried so very hard to get into these stories. The first was better than the second but, that made me feel this collection was travelling downhill and I am sad to say I could read no more. I usually will power through a book regardless of how much I may not like it in order to at least finish it. It's was as if the author is a 15 year old virgin who has a thing for older men and is the repetitive heroine and the hero is actually a giant selfish coward also in repetition. The was no flow to the dialog and next to No chemistry. While the ages of the female leads were different the virgin fact was commonplace and offered no significance. And while I understand the thread of gods and goddesses in these stories, it was a poor reflection on them. This may sound trite but, I love seeing an author blossom and learn from past books. Work on the world building and story building. The passion is there but detail and flow is not. Good luck.
Five standalone stories with the theme of having a child. Dictator, Norse gods, underworld businesses and rich corporations all seem to have some thought in knowing what is best for a child. Political games bested by love and old fashion determination seem to WIN. I looked forward to reading each story because they got better and better as I went along. Look forward to read more by the author.
These books have men who would do anything for the women carrying their child. Dark forces are out to get the babies but you have to come thru them. Every woman must go thru being capture or use because of the child she carries but the fight of a mother for her child will move heaven and earth to keep that child safe.
Loved all the five books that were in set and they were hard to put down. All the characters were awesome, had a strong personality and each of the books had a lot of action, suspense, pleasure, romance, and steamy love scenes. A must buy and keep them coming.
