Rumiko Takahashi (高橋留美子) was born in Niigata, Japan. She is not only one of the richest women in Japan but also one of the top paid manga artists. She is also the most successful female comic artist in history. She has been writing manga non-stop for 31 years.

Rumiko Takahashi is one of the wealthiest women in Japan. The manga she creates (and its anime adaptations) are very popular in the United States and Europe where they have been released as both manga and anime in English translation. Her works are relatively famous worldwide, and many of her series were some of the forerunners of early English language manga to be released in the nineties. Takahashi is also the best selling female comics artist in history; well over 100 million copies of her various works have been sold.

Though she was said to occasionally doodle in the margins of her papers while attending Niigata Chūō High School, Takahashi's interest in manga did not come until later. During her college years, she enrolled in Gekiga Sonjuku, a manga school founded by Kazuo Koike, mangaka of Crying Freeman and Lone Wolf and Cub. Under his guidance Rumiko Takahashi began to publish her first doujinshi creations in 1975, such as Bye-Bye Road and Star of Futile Dust. Kozue Koike often urged his students to create well-thought out, interesting characters, and this influence would greatly impact Rumiko Takahashi's works throughout her career.

Career and major works:

Takahashi's professional career began in 1978. Her first published story was Those Selfish Aliens, a comedic science fiction story. During the same year, she published Time Warp Trouble, Shake Your Buddha, and the Golden Gods of Poverty in Shōnen Sunday, which would remain the home to most of her major works for the next twenty years. Later that year, Rumiko attempted her first full-length series, Urusei Yatsura. Though it had a rocky start due to publishing difficulties, Urusei Yatsura would become one of the most beloved anime and manga comedies in Japan.

In 1980, Rumiko Takahashi found her niche and began to publish with regularity. At this time she started her second major series, Maison Ikkoku, in Big Comic Spirits. Written for an older audience, Maison Ikkoku is often considered to be one of the all-time best romance manga. Takahashi managed to work on Maison Ikkoku on and off simultaneously with Urusei Yatsura. She concluded both series in 1987, with Urusei Yatsura ending at 34 volumes, and Maison Ikkoku being 15.

During the 1980s, Takahashi became a prolific writer of short story manga, which is surprising considering the massive lengths of most of her works. Her stories The Laughing Target, Maris the Chojo, and Fire Tripper all were adapted into original video animations (OVAs). In 1984, after the end of Urusei Yatsura and Maison Ikkoku, Takahashi took a different approach to storytelling and began the dark, macabre Mermaid Saga. This series of short segments was published sporadically until 1994, with the final story being Mermaid's Mask. Many fans contend that this work remains unfinished by Takahashi, since the final story does not end on a conclusive note.

Another short work left untouched is One-Pound Gospel, which, like Mermaid Saga, was published erratically. The last story to be drawn was published in 2001, however just recently she wrote one final chapter concluding the series

Later in 1987, Takahashi began her third major series, Ranma ½. Following the late 80s and early 90s trend of shōnen martial arts manga, Ranma ½ features a gender-bending twist. The series continued for nearly a decade until 1996, when it ended at 38 volumes. Ranma ½ is one of Rumiko Takahashi's most popular series with the Western world.

During the later half of the 1990s, Rumiko Takahashi continued with short stories and her installments of Mermaid Saga and One-Pound Gospel until beginning her fourth major work, InuYasha. While Ran

I think my favourite part of this volume was the part with the age shrinking mushrooms that both Ranma and Ryoga ate. Both their character design as kids are cute, But also the weird mix of their normal behaviour and (even more) childish behaviour. Everything else in the volume was just ridiculous, and bordering on slightly boring.

They say you shouldn't judge a book by it's cover. But I did - And I was right ;) This series is amazing! You get genderbender, fantasy, action, romance and slapstick-humor along with intense serious moments, what more can you want?

This volume is strange in that I enjoy the one shot filler stories more than the longer arcs. Granted, one is absolutely silly and the other is shippy, so that’s probably why.

The first story has Ranma look into a magic mirror that creates a duplicate of herself, who comes out to joins the regular world. She’s keen on flirting and being cute, and when she finds out Ranma is a guy, she’s interested in *him*. The person who owned the mirror gives Ranma a compact, saying that making the copy look into it will banish her to the mirror world. The problem is that she doesn’t want to go, and sees Akane as a rival. So there are lot of shenanigans trying to get people to look into the mirror, and Akane is nearly stuck in it (with Kuno blocking the entrance, no less), but they get the Ranma copy back to the house with the cursed mirror - which Ranma looks into again (in boy form), but luckily the copies are more interested in each other than wreaking havoc.

The next story is a one-shot in which Nabiki finally buys something for herself with her own money: tickets to a concert the following evening. Ranma, however, accidentally knocks them into the stove under a cooking pan, and they go up in flames. The next night Ranma and Nabiki are home alone together while everyone else is out; he apologizes and she says it’s no big deal but asks if he’ll pose for some photos so she can recoup the loss. But then he finds out that she’s mailing topless images of him on handkerchiefs to her clients, and when he moves to confront her and they topple over, she takes a compromising selfie. She tells him that if Akane sees it, they’re doomed. He searches her room for the photo, and when he confronts her she begins crying and talking about how frightened she is, shouting “no, please!” - because she’s recording it to use against him. She continues to terrorize him until the family comes home, and he suspects she’s gotten her anger out of her system. Nabiki is delightfully awful, and this story is so much fun.

The next arc is a ninja Cinderella story - no joke. Ranma, Genma, and Soun are on a training trip and Happosai destroys the Red Hot Tea House fighting with Ranma. The women who work there tell Konatsu, the step-child of the ninja family, that they must avenge the insult. So Konatsu begins stalking Ranma in order to kill him. The problem is that they’ve been treated so unkindly that every attempt gets sidetracked by enjoying a soft bed or eating food. Ukyo attacks Konatsu one day after school, saying that Ranma needs to be left alone, but they end up talking and Ukyo makes okinomiyaki for them and they bond. Ukyo offers Konatsu a job for really shit wages. Akane and Ranma join in and they all learn Konatsu’s story (father remarried and died, step-family is cruel, etc). The group decide they’ll help Konatsu break free, but Konatsu is called back to the family before the plan is out in place, but eventually leads to giant fights with the step-mother and step-sisters, who have kidnapped Ukyo and have a scroll that reveals Konatsu’s deepest secret. Poison is used to make Konatsu face Ranma, who (in a series of attacks) learns that Konatsu is completely flat-chested. Akane shows up to save Ukyo and ends up reading the scroll. And then Akane and Ukyo are captured, placed in bunny costumes and dangled in handcuffs from a tree. Konatsu and Ranma save them, and Akane reveals that Konatsu’s secret is that they love Ukyo. Konatsu is being told by the family to come home with them and continue being their slave, but Ukyo tells Konatsu to report to work. The ninja family throws a bomb that destroys Konatsu’s clothes, revealing that he’s a guy. Despite this particular branch of ninjas (Kunoichi) being known as female ninjas. Konatsu returns to Ucchan’s to work for slightly less terrible wages.

And the last story is adorably shippy. Ranma and Akane are at a Milky Way festival, and their parents make them right their names on cards to place on the same bamboo leaf because it means they’ll be forever bound to each other. But Ranma’s name card flies off and lands on Miss Hinako’s bamboo leaf. The person running the booth at the festival says that if this happens, the person is doomed to be a slave of the person whose bamboo it lands on. They scoff, but then see that Ranma is madly in love with Hinako. And is letting her ride him like a horse. Then Kodachi takes his card, and Ranma gets it back and is about to destroy it when the guy tells them that destroying it after it’s been placed means that the original pair will never be joined. Ranma and Akane stare at each other before Akane says that she doesn’t care. So Ranma rips it up and throws it away, and Akane freaks out. Turns out it’s someone else’s name, and Ranma taunts her for actually caring. Kuno gets involved, and then Akane’s card gets carried off and Ranma takes off after it, jumping through a ring of fire with a tiger, getting caught in fireworks, and interrupting someone about to blow out birthday candles. He gets back to Akane, who says it’s all his fault, so he tells her to put it on the bamboo leaves herself if she wants to be with him so badly. And she balks.

But then a bunch of kids walk by and her card ends up affixed to a balloon, and is flying away. She drops to her knees, watching it go, and Ranma sees her with a “throb” over his heart. He runs off to rescue her card, getting blasted by a firework, and when he lands Akane apologizes for being so stubborn. “To tell the truth, I really wanted to put our cards next to each other.” (OMG YES, SHE FINALLY ADMITS THAT SHE WANTS TO END UP WITH HIM.) Ranma begins babbling about Vega and Altair, the heavenly lovers who come together at last. And then their fathers notice them, and acknowledge how sappy he sounds. Ranma and Akane walk home, and she thanks him for saving her card.

This last story just kills my shippy heart. I love when they’re both stupid and they’re both sweet. I love that they’re both afraid of being the one to admit how they feel, and then it’s super sweet when they put themselves out there.

I'm amazed on how this late on the story we still get pretty ridiculous ideas that make this a really enjoyable comic to read.

Like a magical mirror that creates a copy of Ranma and proceeds to cause mischief.

The two main stories are one with a weird combination of Cinderella with ninjas, funny enough, as Ranma get's into trouble with a ninja able to give him a run for his money, all thanks to Happosai being rude. The ending is quite funny, and I don't know if it's a reference to Ukyo's first appearence.

The other main story is with Ranma and Akane being to proud to share their feelings for each other, again. But with the interesting fact of some very interesting Japanese tradition.

Overall, fun.

Four chapter arc where Ranma's girl side is duplicated and causes all kinds of trouble while they try to get her to leave. One chapter where Nabiki makes Ranma's life miserable. Five chapter arc where we are introduced to a new group of characters who are magical and fighting with Ranma and company. One chapter where Ranma and Akane confront their feelings at a carnival.

This volume has lots of nudity and is ramping up the trend of Ranma and Akane having to confront their feelings.

Ranma Vol. 33 is essentially broken up into two arcs: The Two Ranmas and the Konatsu Kunoichi arc. The Two Ranmas is lighthearted, fun, and once again, really pushing some boundaries here (Takahashi sure loves girl-type Ranma/Ryoga huh?). The Konatsu Kunoichi is more action packed, a bit tragic, but still a lot of fun. Konatsu herself is a great character and wonderful addition to our characters :)

There are interesting stories here and they seem to be okay and funny, but the one's I care most about are Akane and Ranma's feelings for each other.

Little Ryoga and Little Ranma is so cute.

Part 1: The Two Ranma's: Genma and Ranma arrive at a place called the Mirror Mansion. Ranma-chan is duplicated after she gazes into a certain mirror. Ranma-chan 2, to give her a name, loves to hit on guys. She doesn't turn into a boy when bathing in hot water, either.

Part 2: An Isoscele's Love Triangle: RC2 also likes to wear very revealing clothing. Ranma is given a compact mirror that she can supposedly trap RC2 in. RC2 has fallen in love (or at least lust) with Ranma.

Part 3: Get That Compact!!: Happosai and Akane get trapped in the compact mirror. Then Kuno gets trapped in the mirror.

Part 4: The Ultimate Couple: Ranma gets duplicated, and Ranma 2 and Ranma-chan 2 hit on each other.

Part 5: Playing House: Ranma gets Nabiki upset and Ranma tries to apologize.

Part 6: The Sisters of Terror!: Happosai, Genma and Ranma visit a tea house which is supposed to be for ninja training but has three very ugly women in it. The tea house ends up being ruined. One young girl ninja is left to get revenge and she defeats Happosai. She defeats Genma, but Ranma stops her.

Part 7: The Saddest Kunoichi: She has been badly treated by her relatives (like Cinderella and her sisters). Ukyo meets her and gives her something to eat, but when she goes after Ranma Ukyo slams her with her battle spatula.

Part 8: Runaway Ninja!: She talks about her upbringing. The ugly relatives kidnap Ukyo and Ranma and Kunoichi goes to her rescue.

Part 9: Ranma vs. Konatsu: Konatsu is drugged and starts to fight Ranma.

Part 10: Konatsu's Happiness: Konatsu is in love with Ukyo. She, though, turns out to be a he.

Part 11: Bamboo Leaves of Love: Ranma and Akane are at a festival. There's a story about names on bamboo cards, loves being gained and lost, and how Akane and Ranma really feel towards each other.

Spoilers!!!!

Ch1: Ranma in love with Ranma! TOO FREAKING GREAT!

Ch:2 His copy is making it so clear how Ranma really feels about Akane <3

Ch3: "So impatient start with a kiss." Then he feels himself up lol.

Ch4: Making another copy of himself for himself, this has to be the best chapter ending too this story.

Ch5: I've always thought Kuno and Nabiki would make a good couple but it was too good to be true. Nabiki's blackmailing is always amusing I liked when she was writing out Ranma did it.

Ch 6-10: A Ranma style Cinderella! ( A goldfish on the athletic field .... That's not the point) <-- lmao.

And OMG Ranma pulled a perverted fighting move I was so shocked.

After that fake boob thing I knew she was going to be a he.

Ch11: LMAO when Their dads forced them to write their names on the plants.

Ranma the love slave!

Akane admitted she wanted their names together, I was so happy... but then it was just Ranma's dream. Too good to be true.

oh VIZ, why you gotta make such bizarre editing mistakes... Ucchan's joint gets called "Cat Cafe" in one panel, as in someone redrew the shop name completely, but then Kunoichi's uniform is stuck with place name written backwards

I don't have much to say about this volume. It was just there. Though it was fun seeing two Ranmas at once - the girl and boy counterparts together. Ranma is so cute as a girl!
