...The writing is tedious and dull! I couldn't make it through the first chapter. Usually, I at least try to get through 10%. Nope, not this time. Reads like a 5th grader wrote it. Smbslt
3.5 Stars. The story is good. The characters are good. It's well thought out and planned however I was not emotionally engaged. I was told the story but didn't feel it and found the characters to be flat. There is much potential here so I hope for more depth and feeling in future books.
“Life is all about timing…. The unreachable becomes reachable, the unavailable becomes available, the unattainable…. attainable.” Stacey Charter Kimberly Nelson is a trauma nurse in a Denver hospital. She is good at her job and loves the work; when she is allowed to do it. Her relationship with the supervisor of the emergency section has never been good. For some obscure and, to Kimberly, unknown reason, the emergency supervisor continued to criticize and belittle her; giving her many jobs far under the duties of a registered nurse. She would also be ordered to work on her scheduled days off, without pay. Kimberly is at the end of her tether and is seriously considering resigning. While looking through a small local newspaper, the Denver Rocky Mountain Gazette, she spots an ad that immediately piques her interest. In the ad is the picture of a woman dressed as one would imagine from the late nineteenth century. In bold print she read, MAIL ORDER BRIDES WANTED! This really gets her attention and she sees that only a Denver mailing address is given; no email or telephone number is given. Her first reaction is that this is a scam but, nevertheless, carefully cuts out the ad and puts it in her telephone case. The ad continues to haunt her. She decides to visit the address and inquire as to its validity. When she finds the old Victorian house at this address, she proceeds to knock on the door. The door is answered by a tall and stately gentleman that reminds her of how a traditional English butler would look, walk and sound. She is shown to the study where she meets Mrs. Victoria Hilton. Mrs. Hilton explains that she indeed has a mail order bride business, named aptly, Mrs. Hilton’s Matchmaking Services, and offers Kimberly an application. She will soon be told that her proposed mate lives in the Denver area but in order to meet him, she will have to agree to travel back into time; to be precise, 1892.
This is the beginning of a time travel adventure that is sure to capture the reader’s imagination. This is the Swiss Army Knife of time travel novels. All stops are pulled and you are instantly transported to the world where work is hard, travel is slow, and emotions run deep. I would have liked to have seen more passion. This is a “G” rated story that leaves many questions unanswered. In recent years, time travel has been often explored. This book is good, for as far as it goes, but still far short of awesome.
The year is 2005. Kimberly is a trauma nurse who likes her job but is having problems with her boss. Her parents were killed in a tragic Automobile accident when she was a teenager with no relatives to care for her. She was placed in the foster care system and was fortunate to be placed with a loving caring family where she was accepted. When Kimberly answered an old fashioned add for a Mail Order Bride she is transported back to the 1890's where she meets Patrick a rancher in the heart of the Rocky Mountains. Kimberly has always been fascinated by th e 1890's but can she adjust to living in that time to be with the one she loves? Can she leave her friends behind? Can Patrick accept Kimberly and help her adjust to his time?
This is a great time travel novel and the beginning of a great series. If you like time travel you'll love this book.
What do you get when you have a time traveling mail order bride? Well what you get is a unique and unexpected story that is unusual and vastly entertaining. This is book one of the series and the two authors responsible have a hit if the other books are as good.
Kimberly is a hard working ER nurse who does not really like her job while looking for another job comes across an ad for mail order brides. Thinking this is a possible scam she answer the ad and the next thing she know she goes from 2005 to 1892. The only regret she has is leaving her best friends Nicky, Justin and his son Garret.
I read many mail order bride and time travel stories but never a combination and I could not put the book down. It is not a hard read it took up my Sunday afternoon but I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know these characters and I am looking forward to reading the other stories in the series.
I always enjoy books with time travel. In this story, Kimberly was orphaned at age 15. In foster care she lived with her best friend. She turned 18, became a nurse. Didn’t like her job and had no other friends or family. After reading an ad in the Denver paper, she checked out “Mail-Order Bride”. The idea of the 1800’s couldn’t possibly be accurate in 2005! Or could it?
Significant grammar issues and repetitiveness, often repeating parts of the previous sentence!
Significant grammar issues and repetitiveness, often repeating parts of the previous sentence. Storyline was ok, but not very logical. Characters knew things as fact that should only be assumptions or wet contrary to their stated beliefs in a previous paragraph.
Let me get this out of the way: I fervently wish that all self publishing authors were required to take a course in comma use before publishing! It is so irritating when otherwise intelligent people use commas every time they take a mental pause. They aren't even consistent with it! It really chops up the flow of reading and slows me down. It's a very amateur mistake; one that many self published authors make. I never see it happening in books that are professionally published. It was especially rampant in this book.
Ok, that being said, this story was sweet and held my interest. It was a nice, quick read and I was finished in 2 evenings. I liked the female characters, they were very well developed. I felt that the chemistry between our 2 lovebirds could have been more obvious. I'm not big on the mushy parts of romance novels, so I liked that the story focused on the differences between the time periods and the relationships between the other characters in the book, not just the lovers. But I never got the feeling that these two people needed to be together. I felt no chemistry between them.
This is not a serious or sophisticated story. It is clean, with no swearing or sex scenes. Sex is never mentioned and doesn't need t be to tell the story.
This was a very nice, light story to escape with. I will remember the author's name when I'm looking for that fare.
Enjoyed the story though it seemed like a rough draft than a final version. Most likely it was self-published. Nothing wrong with self-published, if it's done right. The first six chapters could have been omitted especially since the author repeats the information further along. There was no romance really going on. The two main characters didn't spend time getting to know each other, yet they fell in love? The author should have spent time showing the two main characters getting to know each other and the process of them falling in love. Not just say she loved him, he loved her. Why? Some chapters were dated wrong. Like, the chapter was about Nicky in 2005 yet the chapter title said 1896. Also, the author used "cool" to describe the hotel in Denver instead of actually describing it. How was it "cool"? Some words used by the 1896 characters are modern terms they wouldn't have known. The book needs some work, but overall was an enjoyable read. It was a VERY clean romance.
A nurse from 2005 answers a mail order bride ad and is hooked up with a rancher from 1890. Kimberly doesn't expect to find love in the past and isn't quite sure she believes Victoria, the widow running the mail order bride business that she really is going in the past. However, seeing is believing. She quickly grows to love the ranch (a four hour horse ride from town), her intended's family and especially him. After a 30 day period where they get to know each other, they both realize they want to marry. However, Kimberly has to tell him she is from the future and hope he believes it. In the end he does, of course! Her best friend from the future, Nicky, is invited to the wedding and we get a glimpse of what may be the next book in the series.
Touched by Time by Zoe Matthews & Jade Jenson. This is a time travel romance which takes place in 2005 and 1892. This was a really good book. I loved the characters and the concept of how time travel works in this book. I have read few time travels and I am absolutely falling in love with this type of book.
What the description says is what you get. This book is an easy and fun read.
When I read it it pulled me in and I could not put it down. I went as far as to load more from this series on my kindle so I can continue it. The whole mail order bride concept in a very intriguing one. The ending to this book set it right up for book 2. I am sure will be her best friend as a mail order bride. I cannot wait to learn more about those characters to come.
Good, but I won't be buying the rest in the series
It didn't 'wow' me at all. I read it through but I was able to put it down and not think about it until I went to bed and read another chapter. When I got to the end, future books were listed with descriptions, I knew I would stop with this one. All the characters in this first book were being brought back and matched up with the two times. It was like they were being brought to the Ark two by two. Nicky in 2005 with Shaun in 1892, Colleen in 1892 with Nicky's nephew in 2005, Nicky's brother in 2005 with Patrick's sister in 1892. All right already. I guess the big mystery through all these books: will they all end up in 1892, or will some go to 2005? And will Victoria and Collin finally become a couple?
While the writing feels like the writer wrote the story for a 10 year old, after getting through the 1st few chapters the story did grab my attention. I think it's difficult to really write about time travel when it's an "unknown" experience. I hope one day we can, but as of 2018..not happening.
I thought the story had interesting characters, interesting avenues each character took, and of-course left the ending open for her best friend to be book #2's mail order bride. Probably interesting to learn more about the brother with an Native Indian child and has never married.
I don't think I'd purchase any books in this series, but if they were free, I would read the next one.
I read this book in one sitting. I'm a fan of time travel romance and this one has England and America in it. I like that it was really light and the writing style was comforting.
Kimberly decided to change her life and travel somewhere far to start anew with a man she barely knows, and her best friend Nicky was against it. Things happened in a logical fashion and I was really surprised how it turned out.
I was expecting the focus to be in 1892 but it kept switching back and forth to 2005. I have to admit this wasn't thoroughly proofread or edited since I found some errors. I just decided to enjoy the story and how it was told.
Touched by Time by Zoe Matthews and Jade Jenson was such a great read! I absolutely enjoyed how the time travel worked in this novel. I couldn’t out this book down! I wanted to know more about the keys, Victoria and Collin, and how the mail order bride service across time was going to work out. I also loved that it took place in my state of Colorado! The romance between Patrick and Kimberly was sweet and definitely had moments where I swooned. The most heated this book got was a couple of kisses, but the emotion behind those kisses was steamy! I can’t wait to see what happens in the second book and which couple will have their romance!
While the concept of a time travel mail order bride is interesting, the simplistic style of writing is sortable only for young adult readers. The rules given for time travel Are broken soon after promises are made. The heroine signs up to be a mail order bride with little thought given to what she is getting into. All Kai the editor should have caught the mistakes of dates given for the chapters and a couple of typos. It was an okay read once, but I won’t be re reading it
Different twist to a time-travel story. I liked the characters and the plot is interesting with a hint of something sinister in future books. The main conflicts in this book were emotional ones. A few issues I had: I would have liked to read an epilogue. And returning from their wedding night, they looked well rested - really? In my opinion the narrator was only okay. I don’t think she added anything to the story and too often her voice was high-pitched and squeaky.
I liked what I read in this book, but the reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 was because it really bugged me and got me a little confused when Kimberly ended up saying that her parents died in an accident when she was 15. After that it would change to mentioning she was 16 at the time. Then back to 15 and then 16 finally. I mean, which is it?!
I normally love time travel romances, but not this book. It's written at a seriously childish level. The sentences are all short, declarative sentences and repeated several times. We don't have to constantly hear how the heroine dislikes her job and is looking for something new. If you're looking to give a book to a YA reader (very YA), then this might be for you.
Loved this book! It was like Zoe Matthews read my heart and mind! Could not put it down. Loved the characters. Can't wait to read book 2. The characters are so believable that i fell in love with them all. She made me feel like i was experiencing the adventure myself. Truely awesome. Thank you Zoe.
I am not a big time travel fan, but I really enjoyed this book. A clean story of nurse Kimberly (2005) answering a mail-order-bride ad for Colorado rancher Patrick (1892). A series of events lead them to a 30 trial in 1892. This is a story of love and acceptance in a difficult situation.
A fun romance with interesting characters, especially Victoria, the owner of a mail order bride business, who expands her clientele to the future. While the plot line is appealing, the writing level could be more sophisticated, which would improve the book's quality.
Kimberly is a nurse but she’s been having a hard time with her boss. Things get so bad she decides to answer a mail order bride ad. Patrick however is from another time. She agrees to spend a month to see if the two of them can get along and she can live in the past. This is an interesting concept and I bought the rest of the series to see what happens.
A woman answers an ad for a mail order bride. She doesn’t figure out that the potential groom is in the past until she speaks with the woman running the mail order bride service. Well written story with believable characters. I read some of the criticisms from others and did not find them in this book. Maybe they read another book?
I enjoy time travel books and this one was quite good. The time travels back from 2005 to 1892. Modern Kimberly answers a “mail order ad” and meets Patrick but then finds out that he is from 1892. She has 30 days to make up her mind. She finally reveals to Patrick that she is from the future. Great, fun book.
I enjoyed reading about time travel for Kimberly and her decision to go back in time from 2005 to 1892 as a mail order bride. There will be many different things she will have to get used to. She will miss her best friend Nicky but not her job. If you like to read about time travel I think you will enjoy this read.
This story was interesting. I liked the way It begun and how it was brought all together. It was never a dull moment. The way the story was written through the time was fascinating. I like the cliffhanger that was mentioned. This is one of those stories that keeps you wanting to read and read! This is a good read!
First book in a series. Kimberly frustrated with her current job as a registered nurse in a trauma center, quits her job and answers an ad for a mail order bride. Unconventional and kind of unusual, Kimberly gets a response back from the ad and the adventure begins.
