ELLA: I need to put some distance between me and my psycho boyfriend before things go sideways.

That means leaving California and going home - to Texas.

But what waits for me looks like at least as much trouble - trouble in the form of my first crush, my first love, my first everything.

Luke Davis wasn’t much more than a kid when he ran off to join the military.

Now he's back after three of tours of duty and the only thing he wants to see is me.

He’s six foot four of brawn and ink and menace and talking about second chances.

LUKE: I broke Ella's heart eleven years ago and I should stay far, far away from that gorgeous, curvy temptation. But one look at her and I know I need her back.

I want her in my arms and in my bed.

She's skittish, for sure. But I won't let anything stand in my way.

If her low-life ex shows up in town making more threats I'm going to show him and everyone else that Ella has always belonged to me.

RESCUE ME is a standalone romance novel with steamy scenes, no cheating, and a happily ever after.

Nope not doing it. Read the sample and the H takes some random ow home from the club. A club he visits 5 times a week. And he regularly stays the night at the hotel down the street. And even more disgustingly he offered the ow $500 for sleeping with him. Now I need to scrub this from my memory.

This is the first book I have read by this author and now I need to go get all the rest. Our H is Luke Davis, a former military man. Our h is Ella Hanover, a young woman who just finished medical school.

Ella has a psycho boyfriend that she breaks up with at dinner. She has just finished medical school and is waiting to see where she is being placed for her residency. The stress is really getting to her as she is hoping not to be sent back home. Her memories from there aren't good. Her high school sweetheart broke her heart when he enlisted in the military and left on a bus to Basic after her family was killed during a tornado. Sadly for Ella, She gets her letter and is going back to Buxwell, Texas to be the town's physician. She has no idea that Luke is back home too.

Luke joined the military and left the love of his life. 11 years later he has been medically discharged and is living back in Buxwell. He has made a good life for himself being a jack of all trades for the town. He has scars and pains from the military but he still feels like something is missing. When he hears Ella is coming back home, he is excited for his 2nd chance with the woman he loves.

There was heartbreak from Ella and Luke's past that the couple had to get past. There was also trouble with Ella's psycho ex. I loved Ella. She was a strong, independent h. She had gone through so much with losing her family, Luke and more. She pushed through to get away from her hometown and to escape the memories by making something of herself. Luke was a wonderful H also. He knew he wanted Ella back and was determined to make it happen, no matter what. Great first book for me to read. I look forward to going back and reading the rest.

This is the first book that I have read by Vesper Vaughn. Have to say I am glad she asked me to read her book, it was a very good book. I believe in second chances and do overs. This book had both. The book has everything I look for in a book. It has sense that makes you cry, laugh, scared, you feel happiness, and tell Luke to “Take me”! Nothing like a gorgeous BAD BOY!! The second thing is it had a story line that worked the characters into it perfectly. Third, she grabs your attention at the beginning of the book and holds it till the end. Fourth, the hero and heroine are surrounded by mystery and secrets that are threatening to come to service. This is a book that I would recommend to mature ages 18 and over because of the steamy sex scenes. I totally recommend that you read this book. You will not be disappointed. Standalone romance, no cliff hanger, and HEA!!!

Ella Hanover is a medical student who breaks up with her boyfriend because he just doesn’t do anything for her. She is waiting on her letter to tell her where she will be practicing medicine after graduation. She wants to start a new life. The letter had been lost in the mail and it took a while for it to get to her. After graduation she gets it and it tells her that she is going to the one place she wasn’t wanting to go. She was to home to Buxwell, Texas. She left there because of the memories and pain of her past. So she accepts the position in order to put some distance between her and her ex-boyfriend who isn’t taking the breakup to well. She is now leaving California to go home to Texas. The one thing she wasn’t expecting to be in Buxwell was the one person she had ever loved, Luke Davis. He left her to join the military breaking her heart which was already breaking because her mother had just been killed by a tornado. Now he is back in Buxwell after three tours of duty and all he wants is her. He is 6 foot 4 and all muscle and tattoos, and he wants a second chance.

Luke Davis broke Ella’s heart 11 years ago, and he knows that Ella is coming back home to take over the vacant Doctor’s position in Buxwell. Even though he should probably stay away from the curvy temptation, he can’t. Just one look at Ella and Luke knows that it isn’t over with them. He wants her and he wants her in his arms and bed. Luke is determined to make Ella his again and he isn’t going to let anything stand in his way, not ever her low life ex-boyfriend. He will show everyone that Ella belongs to him and always has!

Luke and Ella have to work out their issues with each other and come clean about the secrets they are keeping from each other. Will they be able to do that? Will Luke forgive Ella for her secret? Will Luke’s secret be a deal breaker for Ella? Or will love outweigh it all? Gotta read to appreciate this awesome love story.

No spoilers and plenty of friends, love, and lust (panty melting sex) to keep you wanting more. ARC free book given in exchange for an honest review.

Hot marine pining for his first love? YES PLEASE!!!!!

~~~I received an ARC of Rescue Me by Vesper Vaughn for an honest review!~~~
Rescue Me is the third book that I have read by Vesper Vaughn, and boy am I hooked!!! Ms Vaughn sure knows how to reel you in and catch you. I love how she has the characters returning to their roots and finding themselves, especially since they had run away to begin with thinking they could escape who they were and their pasts.
Ella Hanover is a medical student who breaks up with her boyfriend because he just doesn’t do anything for her. She is waiting on her letter to tell her where she will be practicing medicine after graduation. She is hoping against hope that it isn't to the one place that is last on her list...home.
Luke broke Ella's heart eleven years ago, and now she is back in his life, and he is going to make dang sure she isn't going to leave ever again. The way Luke remembers the little things, like the read door, it almost broke my heart. He loved Ella deeply when he left, but he thought he was doing the right thing. He wanted to make something of himself and then get his girl. But Ella had a big secret back then, one that scarred her more with Luke’s departure in the military
Luke is an ex-military man with battle scars, scars that have literally left him with constant pain and aches and the scars to prove how much he had to overcome just to be in the place he is....and he is a better man for it. He is the town's jack of all trades and master of none. He has down most of the work with setting up her little doctors office and apartment/cabin she will be living in. There are many things about Luke, that Ella now has to figure out, that will surprise her and make her resistance to him more and more futile oh, if only I could find a man like this.
When I was reading this, I didn't remember that the title includes "Bad Boy..." in it. I don't consider Luke to be a bad boy at all, to be completely honest. He's a Marine who did a stint in private contracting, and now he's in the handyman trade. Everything he has done was always with Ella in mind, and when Ella starts figure out everything, the walls around her heart start to crumble.
I really enjoyed this book, the author had a great premise with this book and executed it perfectly. Her characters were well developed and I loved how time elapsed in the book. She didn't just keep droning on and on. I loved that how the whole town of Buxton, TX, welcomes Ella home and expects the HEA for Ella and Luke!!! I would highly recommend this book to anyone interested in a fantastic step-brother romance!!
Holy Hotness!!! You just can't go wrong with a good military man. Luke Davis is hands down the hottest man I have come across in a book, well for a Marine anyway. I have me a bonafide army man at home, but hey this is fantasy land and I can dream about a Marine right?
Luke broke Ella's heart eleven years ago, and now she is back in his life, and he is going to make dang sure she isn't going to leave ever again. The way Luke remembers the little things, like the read door, it almost broke my heart. He loved Ella deeply when he left, but he thought he was doing the right thing. He wanted to make something of himself and then get the girl (I can totally relate to this book, it was like reading my personal story of my husband and myself).
Of course, there were some twists and turns, that include fears, and ex-boyfriends who just don't know the word no. But I will give one spoiler... There is a HEA!!
Vesper Vaughn has quickly become one of my favorite authors. Her writing captures me in away that most authors don't. I have read quite a few books of Ms. Vaughn's and every book is the same. I just can't put it down. Ms. Vaughn has the talent to become one of the greats. She will be a household name like Nora Robert or Sandra Brown one day soon.
I kinda thought Luke the hero was a little creepy as well. He had some stalkerish tendencies too. So it's hot nice stalker vs psycho stalker.
I received this book in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
Luke and Ella, high school sweethearts. Luke breaks Ella's heart by going off with the military and she is left crying at the bus stop in a small "one horse town." Now it is eleven years later here is that same small one horse town.
Ella - physician, just finished school and waited for where she was being placed for her residency.....you guessed it back home. She is also escaping a psycho acting ex-boyfriend and trying not to get caught up with her high school sweetie who hurt her so deeply, really her one true love in her life. She really has no family and only one really great BFF. But once back in her hometown, things have changed (as was expected) she knew it would somewhat but all for the better and positive. But....seeing as how this is a small town it doesn't take long for her to run into Luke (her HS sweetie)
Luke - military man with battle scars, scars that have literally left him with constant pain and aches and the scars to prove how much he had to overcome just to be in the place he is....and he is a better man for it. He knew that Ella was coming home as the new town doctor, he was excited about his second chance. Ella might not know it yet but he still has his heart and mind (and everything else of his) set on her being his again. She is not going to make it easy on him, but he will prevail. He gets his mind set on something and it is his......take note Ella.
He is the town's jack of all trades and master of none. He has down most of the work with setting up her little doctors office and apartment/cabin she will be living in. He is not done with all the work, and when Ella is greeted into her hometown from the Mayor (a woman who used to work at the high school, kind of still does) she feels at home again. So many towns people there to pitch in without complaint or without thinking twice. This is nice. She is taking inventory at her new place of work, when Luke comes in and it is all out fireworks. She will NOT allow herself to get close to him, and he will not allow her NOT to get close to him.
It happens that there are two big surprises in here, and I do mean big surprises. Luke and Ella have a hurdle to overcome with the first surprise. But Ella and Luke know that with that surprise there was heartache and hurt that needs to be addressed, they do address it together. Things are going really good for them and then the second surprise hits. This one Luke is forced to be a hero and Ella is fighting along side him. Although at times they are fighting together but not while they are physically together. (if that makes sense) This surprise is a doozy and one that leaves a rock in your chest/stomach.
Can they survive these two surprises? Together? Alone? Do they have their happy ever after or do they succumb to the hands trying to break them apart? What surprises face them from all angles? This book is one that you need to read. The book I feel allows there to be room for more of their story (and I do hope there is more) but also leaves you wanting more to their story. The book is not so heavy that you can't get through the hardships to enjoy the happiness. This is a fantastic book. You will not regret reading this book. I do guarantee you will want to share this with your friends as well.
Now. When I was reading this, I didn't remember that the title includes "Bad Boy..." in it. I don't consider Luke to be a bad boy at all, to be completely honest. He's a Marine who did a stint in private contracting, and now he's in the handyman trade.
What's nice about this second-chance is that there wasn't any harsh animosity. There's chemistry, playfulness... Both these characters have grown up, neither is looking at the other for who they were eleven years ago, but both also know, without a doubt, that the other is the one who got away.
"You like running away from me, don't you?" --Eleven years ago
Ella's stubborn -- always has been. It was what drew Luke to her back in school. As much as she recognizes her heart's desire to be with him, they split ways eleven years ago for a reason.
He always knew he was going to be a Marine. Ella knew. Still, she had held out he would stay for her, more so when life began changing for these high schoolers. When he left...
Waiting for Ella's emotional break was always lingering at the back of my mind. I wanted her to have that break through -- and when it happens? It doesn't fail.
"You left, Luke. You left me. You left me all alone. I didn't think you loved me anymore."
Luke crossed the room in three steps, wrapping his hands around my forearms and pushing me against the wall. His face is inches from mine, his beautiful green eyes boring into me. "Don't you ever fucking say that. Don't you let those words come out of your mouth. Do you hear me? I loved you. I love you. Right now. At this minute. I never fucking stopped loving you, Ella Hanover."
Even though it's a bit odd... Luke's pined for her all these years and refuses to get close to another woman. His buddies from school who teased him for liking the nerdy girl (but weren't so incredibly cruel about it, like Michael and his locker room talk) are still his best friend's now, and between Tim and Ella's old friend, Alexa... the matchmaking when Ella returns home is pretty quick.
"One day I'm getting you back, Ella. You don't know it, but I am."
Luke was so incredibly good to Ella. The last few chapters are set up in an "epilogue" type fashion, and they made my heart so full and happy -- these two and their future is a beautiful place.
It was easy to forget Luke had his own invisible scars, and it was even easier to be shocked by the series of unfortunate events that unfolds in the lives of Luke and Ella.
The few times they do fight... they have nasty words for one another. But rather than feel like an unhealthy relationship in any way, it read like hurt emotions that they were both trying to walk away from. They were necessary words, and the author handled the fights appropriately.
Honestly? I just loved every moment of their relationship. It was real. It wasn't quick or forced; it simply felt like a relationship that was rock solid steady, and had been, and would continue to be.
4 -- Handyman -- stars
Ella and Luke go to the same school, but get to know each other in their last year of high school. They fall in love and become inseparable. They want to spend the rest of their lives together, but Luke joins the military and Ella goes to college far away. Ella didn’t want Luke to go away, but he did it anyway and that was the end of their relationship.
Several years later, Ella moves back home when a spot at as doctor becomes available there. Luke already moved back, because he got hurt at war and his leg hurts constantly. Luke is now the golden boy of the town and the handyman. He makes sure that Ella’s house is good to live in and helps Ella to renovate her practice. The love between them are still there, but also the hurt and the anger. Luke really has to work to get Ella back.
Luke and Ella are great characters. Luke is a sweet, caring man. He loved Ella when they were teens and he still loves her, he probable always will. He has never forgotten her and always hoped that she would be there when he came back from the war. The war still has an effect on his life. He sometimes has a lot of pain in his leg, has an ugly scar and hasn’t slept well for a long time now. Ella is a strong, smart, caring and sweet woman. She’s keeping a big secret from Luke and this holds her back from getting back with him. She tragically lost her mother and she hates tornados now. It’s tornado season when she moves back, but Luke is there to help her.
I liked this book a lot. The author is new to me, but I can’t wait to read more by her. Rescue Me is emotional, has great secondary characters and drama with Ella’s ex. He’s crazy and I knew from the start that that wasn’t the last I’ve read about him. I just wished Luke and Ella were together sooner. I kept turning the pages waiting for them to admit to the attraction. I really loved them together, happy and in love.
An intriguing story that will have you riding the proverbial roller coaster of emotions, from ex’s that you still love, to ex’s that you don’t, past ghosts that need to be put to rest and stalkers that need to be put away. Ella has been away from Buxwell for almost eleven years, only to find herself returning after completing her residency as a doctor, because of a special incentive program to help with her student loans. Some of the ghosts of her past seem to still be haunting her, but she also finds that she still has wonderful friends, who she may have to lean on whether she wants to or not. Luke has been back in town for three years now, after his medical discharge from the marines and a year’s stint with a secretive agency. He’s the town’s hero, and their only handyman. He hoped Ella was still here when he returned, but even though that dream was shot down, he still hasn’t lost hope, buying the property they talked about in highschool and restoring it for her. This couple have many hurdles to cross and lots of painful memories to purge before they can even think of reconciling. Big question is…will they be able to put the past where it belongs in order to concentrate on their futures? Lots of action, excitement and loving going on in this book. You really don’t want to miss it. Awesome read!
These two had a connection in high school but went their separate ways. Now that she is returning, he is ready for the commitment he resisted all those years ago when he joined the military.
She is a doctor and ready for a new life. She is not that excited to return to her hometown and revisit old pain. However, it does give her some space from her ex. From one ex to another, she will have to deal with her feelings.
Luke and Ella are two people that really cared about one another but were young and going in different directions. Now, they have a chance to make it work if they can let go of the pain and embrace the love. Luke is a determined man and he is not going to let anything get in the way this time. I really liked him for his intensity and honesty. It is an emotional story with a great ending.
Good Read!!!
I loved Luke and Ella's story. I loved how the author depicted how smart and unassuming Ella was but was still able to get the attention of the popular guy. Luke fell fell for Ella because of the person she was. Luke helped build Ella's confidence and that helped Ella value herself as a person. I liked how Vesper dealt with Luke's injury to his leg from the IED. Luke was able to handle his injury as a part of war and was able to share it with Ella. He had some PTSD as most of our service men and women but was able to live with it as do our military men and women. This book provided some insight on what our men and women in the military go through. This was a good story as well as a romantic and sexy read. This is a must read!! I love reading books from this author.
I loved this emotional and romantic story about reclaiming lost love. Ella is a doctor returning home to Buxwell, TX. Buxwell holds some bad memories for Ella. It's where Luke, her high school sweetheart broke her heart, among other things. What she doesn't know is that Luke is still in love with her. My heart melted when he told her "One day I'm getting you back, Ella. You don't know it yet, but I am." (Sniff, sniff.) How sweet is that? Vesper Vaughn just does it to me every time. Until I read this book, my favorite V. V. book was Desire (which I also loved,) but this story grabbed my heart and wouldn't let go. Rescue Me is a well-written, can't put it down kind of a book and I really loved it.
Eleven years ago, Luke got on a bus for Army basic training leaving the love of his life, Ella, watching and crying.
Current day, Ella Hanover has just finished her medical residency. She has put in her ten choice locations and is waiting for her letter of fellowship. She finally gets the letter; she is going back to her small hometown, Buxwell, Texas!
Current day, Luke Davis has been medically discharged and is back living in his small home town of Buxwell, Texas. He has made a good life for himself. However, something has always been missing, Ella.
Can two people get back what they once lost?
This is a very heartwarming story. The author did a great job of getting the reader invested in the characters. I think I found a new author to follow!
When I first started the book I was worried that I wasn't going to like it. There was just something about the way this was written that bugged me right away. I still cannot put my finger on what the issue was.....
Well, the blurb about the book really is the story. There are no big surprises or anything crazy that happens. What I really did like was the very end, it was very cute. Overall, the book had no major issues to it, it was a decent story and I guess a little more wholesome than I was expecting (not a bad thing, but it was advertised as a bad boy story and it did start rather not wholesome.)
Ella and Luke was a high school sweetheart with sweet but bitter past. They separate when Ella's mom died in a storm and Ella wasn't able to hold Luke not to join the military. Yes, Ella was heartbroken that time. We can really agree to Ella of her hatred and disappointment towards Luke when they meet again. Yeah, I kinda hate Luke also for that!
What I love about this story was their second chance. It was sweet and heart warming. Luke's determination for getting Ella's back was nice and fun! And I love every seconds of it
