Oakies, I'm slowly but surely working my way through the Chick Lit books I downloaded last Summer. Most all of them have been happy reads with warm, funny stories. This book doesn't quite fit into what I call Chick Lit but I got it because I knew it would have romance in it, and who doesn't want some romance while they are on vacation? (That's what I got it for)

Though I didn't read it while on vacation, instead it was read over two of the coldest days in South Texas it did warm my heart.

The story was a little implausible, a missing wine heiress living in disguise in San Francisco, only to hook up and casually date a private eye. Who just happened to want to know her secrets, but agreed not to dig for them while they were in the throws of having hot, passionate sex.

Then there was the journalist, Camille. So desperate to please her mother she for goes her dreams of being a writer and her chances of snagging her crush Dylan, she gets the unenviable task of covering the story of Gwen (the runaway heiress) who is now a gourd artist that has been chosen to show her pieces in the local museum. It is her that uncovers Gwen's secret and outs her to the world.

What I loved the most about this book was its easy pace and style, there was nothing that didn't draw you in no matter how much you thought the story wouldn't play out the way it did. The characters were likable, and the men deadly sexy. Isn't that what you want in a romance novel?

I do. I, at times wished the story had a little more depth or dimension, but overall when I reached the end I was smiling. This is the perfect beach read, there is nothing better than sun, sea and hot, hot seduction.

So, I picked this book up as a daily freebie and figured "why not". Is is completely not my usually genre so I did not have high expectations. As it happens I was drawn in right away and couldn't put it down until it was down and now I must have the other 5 books in this series! What's more is- in addition to opening my mind to genres I'd normally skip over is... like I said in the title this book inspired me. The main character, Gwen is an artist. I myself used to draw, paint, and I am a photographer (on and off due to depression). There were these little conversations where, her artist self would talk with a non-artist and explain to them that they do not need to "know how to paint" and they just "sort of do it" and ... without giving anything away or using direct quotes... what this character said to non-artists and people claiming they "can't" completely inspired me to get my own art supplies back out and create some paintings and drawings. That is amazing as I have been in a deep depression, mourning the loss of my daughter since 5.2.2012... I used to have good days and bad days but lately, just bad days. Kate Perry created a character who has inspired me to get back to my artwork and I just KNOW that doing so will make me feel better.

Thank you, Ms. Perry for the built-in inspiration and maybe even cheering up I found in your novel. I can never thank you enough, really. You may have really helped me to begin to heal. I'd love to connect with you on FB or other media, if you're up for it. Either way, thank you so much.

I am coming to learn that i can depend on Kate Perry for beautiful Contemporary Romances. This being only my second book of Kate's and of this series, i am very glad i grabbed while on special and read even though it was out of order. Since the other book i read was book one from the Laurel Heights series, i was able to identify characters and jump right into the story without the feeling of loss u tend to get when reading a series out of order.
Kate seems to have a way of teaching u life lessons and steaming up the pages with naughty nocturnal swims in this book 4 of the series. I give Miss Perry a 4.5, but Goodreads dose not have .5's so i rounded up! Lol.

Kate Perry's Laurel Heights series just keeps getting better and better. I really like the way a background character from one story becomes the main character in another story. I feel like I know the neighborhood, even when past heroines only put in an appearance a few times in each book. The Laurel Heights series is like watching a TV series with a great supporting cast. As always, though, reading is SO MUCH better than TV! I look forward to continuing to meet new friends in this charming circle.

Gwen is NUTS! Her character is just so loveable. And her banter with Rick and their obvious attraction add to the cuteness of this book. I'm glad things worked out for her secrets exposed and all!

This is probably her tamest book of those I have read. I enjoyed it even if it didn't have hot steamy scenes as I enjoyed the plot, interactions of the characters, and the setting.

Not really my cup of tea, although I’ve read worse. This has some substance, but it was still too over the top for my taste.

Every book in this series so far has followed the same formula and while the books are entertaining, there is really nothing life changing or very memorable about them. Each book centers on one main couple and then a sort of side couple and they each wind up with their own HEA. I have found myself more interested in the side couple than the main at times.

Just ok. Good banter with the H/h and a secondary love story with the reporter and writer.

I should have liked this more than I did.

Here's the basic story: Gwen owns Outta My Gourd (love the name) in LH; Rick is a PI. We met Rick in Return to You; he's also a good friend of Olivia's. Rick and Gwen seem to hate each other, but are attracted to each other, so we know where that's headed. Gwen is an artist but is also not who she seems... and has jumped through hoops to change her identity and get away from her greedy wealthy family. The problem is that she's such a good artist that she attracts attention from a museum and the press. And then we're introduced to Camille, a journalist with an overbearing mother who only wants Camille to follow in her journalistic footsteps. Camille has a friend and potential love interest in Dylan, a successful fiction writer who encourages Camille to find her true voice, not just follow her mother's voice.

There's a parallel between the two storylines which is fairly interesting, but the two romances aren't evenly addressed and I was left confused about what was going on with Dylan, since he's a secondary romantic hero in this story.

There is a third story here which is blown away as events about Gwen unfold: her relationship with 14 yr old Laurel, a student at Gwen's non profit art center. I loved that relationship and really wanted to know more about this teenager and her parents. But that went nowhere.

Essentially this is a story about trust and finding your own voice despite what your family wants.

I think the author tried to do too much in this book. We're supposed to like Rick, but he's less interesting than Gwen and her background. Their relationship felt uneven and unresolved at the end. It seemed to me that there was a lot more that needed to be addressed.

Review originally posted at Ramblings From This Chick

This was another cute and charming read by Kate Perry. I've been waiting for the pairing between Gwen and Rick and this book did not disappoint. In previous books you could definitely sense the chemistry between these two. Yes, they was some hostility between them, but there was definite sparks flying. I loved both Gwen and Rick together. Not only were their scenes together hot but just I loved the dynamics between them.

Gwen is a local gourd artist and has always been a less forth coming about herself and her past. She gets along with everyone with the exception of Rick Clancy. Gwen knows that if she has intention of keeping her past a secret she needs to keep away from the sexy private eye. No one can find out that she's actually the long lost Grape Princess. If they do, her quite life that she's come to treasure will be at an end.

Rick knows that Gwen is hiding something. He's not exactly sure what it is, but his gut is telling him there is more to her story and his gut is never wrong. So he begins to observe Gwen in the hopes of finding what she's hiding. But the more time he spends observing her and talking with her, Rick is finding her charm hard to resist. Not only is she charming, but she's just so cute and sexy.

I loved watching these two finally let down their walls and get together. The chemistry between them is great and they are both hot together. Like I said before, I really enjoyed this book and I am really enjoying Miz Perry's Laurel Heights series and I can't wait for more.

Looking For You is book #4 in Kate Perry's Laurel Heights series { I've already read books #1 and #3.} It's about a girl, Geneviéve, who was born a raised the heir to a wine fortune in France. She hated the pressure of living in the spotlight and with a little coaching from her grandmother, she left her family and started a new life for herself across the pond, as Gwendolyn.

Gwen kept her past close to her vest and manage to avoid being found out for years. Until she started dating a private investigator, Rick, and simultaneously was being honored for her artwork by a very influential museum. Between a P.I. who was interested in getting to know her better and the media coverage of her art, her secret past began to rise to the surface. Fearing that her new life that she has perfectly created will be destroyed, Gwen spends her days plotting her next move to protect herself, her romance and her art.

For me, this book was really about a person's ability to choose their own path in life. Gwen was strong enough to leave her life behind and start fresh, which gave her the freedom to be whoever she wanted to be. But more than that first big break, once she had life figured out she also had to learn to be strong enough to accept her past, acknowledge it, and to continue being herself. Just because old ghosts can come back to haunt us, we don't have to be a slave to them. Gwen had to learn that breaking free from her past gave her the opportunity to set herself on the right path but that when the past resurfaced, she was now in a situation that allowed her live with it.

The main character of Looking For You had a cool backstory and I really liked the premise of the whole novel. However, I feel like the book was just like any other quick, romantic love story. Really, when you read a ton of these type of books they almost all blur together. Besides the backstory, there really was nothing exceptional about the plot or the writing. Everything was really predictable.

The book started out with "It was a dark and stormy night." When I read that I had to fight the urge to laugh and wonder if this was really a published book. But then I read the next sentence and was relieved that Kate Perry wasn't writing in purple prose.

But there were some things in the novel that I had issues with. I was really surprised about how quickly everything happened in the novel. In the first chapter they went from denying how much they hate each other to accepting that they lust (at least it did not go straight to love) after each other. I also did not like Camille's part in the novel. I think her part was just too small and maybe a little irrelevant. To me it detracted from the story instead of adding to it. It's just because the novel was short. The author didn't have enough room to develop Gwen and Camille into main characters.

Despite the flaws, it was pretty amusing and good for wanting to shut off your brain and entertain yourself on a boring weekend.

I have truly enjoyed reading previous books in the Laurel Heights series, and it seems they just keep getting better! It's very satisfying that the author brings her charming lead characters along, weaving them into subsequent tales; have you ever read a really good novel and just hated when it ended, because you weren't ready to say "goodbye" to the characters you had grown to love? With Kate Perry's novels, no need! They are there, living their happy/sad/normal/exciting lives and being loyal friends to each other. -

In Looking For You, the heroine Gwen just wants to create her gourd art and keep her past at bay, but circumstances conspire to 'out' her eventually, and she must cope with the fallout. An intertwining story follows Camille, the reluctant journalist, who wants to escape her mother's expectations and find her own voice. She is the catalyst for Gwen's exposure to the public, but her regrets in having done so also change her life for the better.

Kate Perry always delivers an engrossing story, but beyond that, I'm impressed by her understanding of human nature: how much we seek the approval of loved ones in our lives; how deeply we sometimes just need to be hugged and accepted; how passion can evolve between two unlikely people, who are just listening to their hearts and ignoring any societal attitudes about their coupling. - Don't miss this wonderful book! ~

Such a different idea having TWO love stories per book. One as the main story with another one (a neighbor, relative, etc.) on the side. The main characters are usually neighbors/friends of each other, sometimes store owners in the Laurel Heights district of San Francisco.

This one is about a gourd artist named Quen. She's the owner of shop 'Out of my Gourd', who is hiding from a secret past. Rick is her love interest. He's a private investigator, which is not a good combination, but they finally discover they can trust each other.

Though Camille, the girl in the 2d romance, makes this difficult. She's a struggling reporter with a famous, nagging mother. Her love interest, Dylan, is a writer, who believes she can do more than write fluff pieces in a small newspaper.

Again all the friends gather together to support and help the struggling lovers tear down the barriers. Though the group is getting so large I wonder if they'll all fit into Eve's cafe by the end of the series. I also have no idea how her friends Eva & Olivia make money at their stores when they're always giving things away.

There's alot of humor and warmth in these stories and this one doesn't disapoint. Quen is flamboyant and is always doing crazy things. But she has a good heart and spends time helping at a teen art group. Rick has his hands full keeping up with her.

Favorite scene: The swimming pool.

Gwendolyn Pierce has for the last seven years re-imaged herself into becoming what she is now, a gourd artist who lives a carefree bohemian life. However, life isn't all that it is cracked up to be as with changing and becoming who she wanted to be, she has had to leave a life and people she loved behind. Gwendolyn's real name is Genevieve De La Roche and is the granddaughter of French Wine Matriarch and with that comes wealth and keeping up appearances. Having enough with that lifestyle and never fitting in , with the help of her Grandmother she adopts a new identity , a shop and a place to live as well as her trust fund which she withdrew all immediately. Now Gwen has been given a chance of a lifetime to have her pieces displayed in an art gallery, but with this comes publicity and Gwen cannot afford to be found. What happens though when a nosy reporter wants to go digging and discovers the truth of Gwen , just as her Grandmother has passed as well and it has come to light that Gwen's grandmother has left her some shares in the family fortune. Is this the push that Gwen needs to finally stop running from her past and stand up to her family or will it cause her to run again ?
Find out in Book #4 of the Laurel Heights Series , this was a fun contemporary romance with a bit of suspense to it and definitely worth reading.

Finally something is happening between Gwen and Rick. The tensions has been building in the previous book and now they collide. They are still throwing words at each other, but it just was a matter of time before they caved in. The dynamic between these two was simply awesome and so fun to read.

Gwen is a wine heiress, but she left that life behind her to live in anonymity. Nobody knows who she is and she likes to keep it that way. Rick has always known Gwen was hiding something, but while trying to figure it out, he became more interested in the woman herself than the secret. Before he knows it she has captivated him. There is still the threat of uncovering Gwen's secret, but it won't be coming from Rick. That guy is in too deep.

I liked how Gwen chose her own path. To find happiness she had to leave a lot behind, but I think most was worth it.

What I also really like how there is always a third POV/character that gets their own storyline. It's short and sweet, but also gives you more insight in their thought process as they often have an influence on the main story line.

I think Looking For You has been my favourite so far. Gwen is just that little extra crazy and Rick is simply the total package. The mystery in the plot makes it a bit more interesting and the hot scenes are as delicious as ever. Another great one from Kate Perry.

Looking for You is another book from the Laurel Heights series by Kate Perry. In this book, we have the opportunity to meet again with Eve and Olivia, but we also encounter the beautiful Gwendolyn. Once known as the "Grape Princess" and heiress of a French empire, she is now a gourd artist in San Francisco. Only one person suspects that she had left a secret behind. The PI Rick is intrigued and begins to investigate her past. He falls in love with her in the process. There is a dispute between the two when the mystery about Gwen’s life is finally unraveled. But does it end with happily ever after?! Read it and find out :)

This is not the first book in the Laurel Heights series. If you want to get familiar with all the characters you should start from Perfect for You. However, this is not necessary because you can easily understand who & how the characters from previous books are related to this one. I recommend reading Perfect for You first.

Overall comments: The plot is somewhat predictable, but interesting nonetheless. There are interesting twists here and there. As you turn the pages you find it more and more enjoyable. You reach the end before you know it.

First thoughts of Rick, um.. he's kind of an arse, "good, it's unanimous." He leaned forward. "Look, I'm only offering the ride because if Olivia finds out I let you trek home in this she'll be pissed. You know Olivia." But as I got to know more of Gwen and Rick's relationship I thought he wasn't an arse but just honest, as their relationship continues to grow though I loved how they interacted with each other:
"We need boundaries."
"Fine, no whips." He tugged at her shirt to nibble on her collarbone.
Who knew that bony thing was an erogenous zone? "Not that kind of boundaries."
"Whips are okay then?"
He's also more of an actions kind of guy but with a girl like Gwen you kind of need to be, "actions work better than words with you." He ran his hands up and down her spine, kneading gently. "Cancel your plans and take me home." He's also kind of bossy, that can sometimes be a good thing in a man. I love Kate's books their always so humorous and entertaining.

I dont know why i just love this book. dont let the lower rating misled you, please give it a try and you may love it like i do.

Gwen strikes me on all the right chords. I think she capture my heart with the scene where she rollerblades and enjoyed the rain. She might be lying by omission but with good reasons. She's brave enough to leave behind her old life rich in physical wealth but poor in happiness, to chase what she loves and do it and live happily.

I love her artistic side, her vibrant side. Gwen is just Gwen and more.
Rick didnt like her at first, cause i think he feels the attraction but fights it since she's so queer and cause his detective instincts tell his she's hiding something. Yet he finds reason to tail after her to be close to her.

I understood why finding the money pushed him away. And how Gwen with her balloon secret suddenly burst suspected Rick. and now she's found the love of her life and the secret is out, she can finally live happily and freely. Good for her!

This version had a lot of typos. I'd like to believe that's a transition from paper to electronic, not the authors fault.

The story of Gwen is an intriguing one. I rooted for her privacy the whole time and of course liked the chemistry she had with Rick. I only wish the story were a bit longer so that we could of had more build up to their relationship.

The second part of the love story was nice as well but didn't interest me as much as the original story we were reading about.

Both characters Gwen and Camille have issues with their mothers and being someone who they don't want to be. Gwen has found a way in life she is comfortable with and while Camille is trying to prove herself to her mother- Gwen helps her learn how to be herself.

If you want to continue to read about Laurel Heights, this book does it justice :)

Wow....this is the best read in the series till now for me. I enjoyed Looking for you very much. I loved Rick and Gwen. They were so awesome together. It was very exciting to read their bickering and interactions. A really fast-paced dialogues , i was awake till 3 am reading this book! The author had created interesting characters, Gwen the wine princess who is in hiding and Rick , a pivate investigation who was keen on unravelling Gwen's secrets!! The plotline was impressive.
I did not get bored for one minute while reading, the whole book was a fast read. The side romance between Camille and Dylan was ok. We were shown only Camille's life and her feelings, Dylan's character was just a surface one, not much we knew about him. An intense read, you should not miss this one, can also be read as stand-alone!
I would obviously rate it as 4.25....:)!!

Okay I really liked this book for some reason. It was FREE!! download on kobo so I was not getting my hopes up.. although I should have known seeing as I am addicted to Marie Force's books as a result of one free download. I had no idea this was a book in a series although I am not sure you really have to read the series to understand the book.

It was funny and quirky and had a mysterious twist. I absolutely loved Gwen and her friends and her relationship with Rick. It was interesting that we the viewer were let in on the secret before any of the characters. It was interesting and I really liked it. So much so that I am no reading the firts book I downloaded for free by Kate Perry. I think I may have just found a new fav author.

I am really enjoying this series - it has improved with each successive book. This one revolved around Gwen, a lady who likes her privacy, and Ric, a private investigator who's intrigued by her. Gwen has good reason for attempting to keep folks at arm's length, including Ric - but it only fuels his curiosity. I like how the romance develops between the two of them and while there's no surprises here, it is still plenty of fun. The side story involving Camille and Devyn was nice as well and really could have been developed into its own novel. My main complaint is that the denouement was a bit simplistic and I just had a hard time buying into the entire resolution with her family. Other than that it was a good tale for a steamy summer afternoon.

Wine heiress Genevieve de la Roche has reinvented herself. Now known as Gwendolyn Pierce, she sports a bohemian lifestyle and earns her living as a gourd artist. A far cry from the prim and proper, rich and famous person her family wants her to conform to. When her artwork gets noticed for a museum exhibit, she fears her carefully guarded secret will be exposed. But will her romantic involvement with private investigator Rick Clancy turn out to be more dangerous instead?
It's a sweet and swift love story. Despite the lies and deceit, two people find true love. The characters are likable and the issues are rational. It's not a story that got my adrenaline going though, but I still enjoyed the simple plot and brevity. The best part is, I got it free!
