Lillian never dreamed that James Cahill could be hers. Not after her outburst in the middle of his wedding. Her futile attempt to stop it made her a laughing stock, and hampered her chances of getting any suitors at all. What ones she did get she compared to James, rejecting them all. But when Lillian finds he’s no longer married, she does her best to suppress her long-buried desires and avoid the handsome divorcee. James, on the other hand, seeing she’s no longer the impetuous young girl he once knew, begins to have other ideas.
Enjoy this story of self-discovery and love at the Little Red Chapel in Cutter's Creek, Montana, where Lillian discovers the heart sometimes speaks without thought, but the whispers of the Spirit can guide them.
Kari Trumbo is a writer of historical and contemporary Christian romance and romantic suspense. She's a mom to four wonderful children. When she isn't writing or editing, she loves to read, sing, and knit. Kari loves curling up with a fluffy blanket when winter hits. She makes her home in central Minnesota with her husband of over twenty years, two daughters, two sons, many cats and one sweet bunny.
She also writes women's fiction under the name Teri Blake.
This is another fantastic read by Kari. The Cutter Creek story continues. Lillian has been infatuation with James for years, but after an embarrassing outburst at his wedding to another girl she is restricted by her family from socializing in town. But when James returns to town years later, no longer married, will the attraction still be there for her and will he return her feelings. I would highly recommend not only this book but the entire series. Fabulous reads.
TWO HEARTS WHO HAVE BEEN DESTINED TO BE TOGETHER FOR YEARS
I enjoyed this very emotional story that takes the reader on a roller coaster ride of joy and sorrow in the lives of several people. James Cahill marries Gwendolyn and moves away, but it is not a happy marriage and ends with her divorcing him. Returning to Cutter’s Creek he is gossip worthy considering divorce is shameful. Lillian Donaldson has been in love with James Cahill since she was seventeen-years-old, but he was older and her math teacher. Her outburst at his wedding was the talk of the town. Lily has tried to obey her parents, but they are very cold-hearted people, offering her no love or affection. When James returns to Cutter’s Creek and speaks to Lily, the gossip mill is in full swing again.
The plot of the story will keep the pages turning with so much angst, anger, confusion, judgment, misunderstandings, and surprises. A moral lesson is included about judging people, and even so-called Christians in this story are very judgmental. There is a great cast of characters, and not all of them are pleasant people. The story does bring out mental illness and how it can affect a person. There are some sweet moments, but heartbreaking ones too. I admire Lily and her respect for her parents even though they are anything but kind and loving. She does love the Lord and tries to be a helpful person; she is actually a victim of circumstances beyond her control. In spite of how several people have treated her, she has a forgiving heart. “The Lord has a plan in all of this. I know it doesn’t feel like it, or seem so, but He does. He will turn your mourning into dancing.”
Lillian embarrasses herself by her outburst in the middle of a wedding that most of the town was attending. Seeing that this was an embarrassment to her family and caused the family to become a laughing stock and talked about in the gossip mill, Lillian’s mother forbade her to speaking to James Cahill every again. Being the talk of the town lessened Lillian’s chances at finding a suitor. Lillian tries to avoid James but it seemed every time she turned around, he was there.
James was sure that Lillian knew something, why else would she have created a scene at the wedding. He is now going through a nasty divorce and lost everything to the woman he married. What did Lillian know back then? Wanting answers, James will not leave Lillian alone until he finds the answers he is seeking.
It was a great read from beginning to end. The plot was unique and the writing was solid. This book teaches of not judging people and how even “Christians” tend to be very judgmental. There are twists and turns that you don’t see coming that add to the story and create a unique story. This book shows you that even through heartaches and stumbles in life that there is a “pot of gold” at the rainbow for everyone.
I enjoyed reading this book by the author with the clean and true to life story that she created. The book can be read as a standalone without feeling that you are missing something from not reading the other books in the series.
I really enjoy this author's books, and this one was no exception. It is the fourth book in the Cutter's Creek Series, but it can be read as a standalone, and it t is definitely a wonderful addition to the series. Once again the author has combined faith, romance and wonderful characters and written a story that had me pulled in from the first pages. I thoroughly enjoyed Lillian and James' story as they struggled to put the hurts and secrets of the past behind them and find their future together. I was given a copy of this book in return for an honest review, and it is one, along with the prior books in this series, that I definitely recommend.
Author Kari Trumbo gives life to all of her characters in every story she writes. In this story, Lillian and James have a relationship that has numerous ups and downs. Will they find love, will they put the past behind them, what does the future hold for them, if anything? This author gives good, clean, true to life story lines that keep the reader interested and longing for more. I enjoyed this story and appreciate the way the author cares for her characters and her readers.
What could be more humiliating? After Lily embarrasses herself in front of the whole town, enough time has passed that people have started to forget what she had done. Lo and behold, James, the source of her humiliation, shows up, and tongues start wagging again! Lily's only recourse is ... to hide! But James is persistent! This is such a fun book!
I have come to the point, where I will not read any more of this of the Cutter Creek stories. In my opinion these books are good if you only have 10 minutes to read a day. You won't be missing much when you come back because these books are so thin with plots, they are almost empty.

It's wonderful to read a story that brings to light how God can move in our lives and show us just how much He loves us, especially when we don't feel loved by the ones in our lives. I especially enjoyed the part where Lily heard Him talking to her. I love it when that happens, and have seen people look at me strangely if I mention it, so it means a lot to read of someone else hearing His voice... even a fictional character!
You will be uplifted by this story and I recommend all the previous books in the series, as well. If you like Christian stories about imperfectly wonderful people, you won't be disappointed. I am now a fan of Kari Trumbo's writing.
As someone who works in child abuse and mental health, I think the author should of prepared others with a Author Note. Yes it may of taken away from the store line. I like a different lifeline when reading and probably would of not read this book. It does protray a life of a child abused and listening to their parents lives. I know God can heal all wounds. But Lilly's life would take a lot more time to heal. But the author gave where credit was due from listening to God.
Sweet and clean romance between two people destined for each other, but it took years for one of them to figure it out.
James was Lilly's math tutor and was five years older than her. She fell in love with him when she was 17. Unfortunately, he married a woman that didn't love him.
Now, he's back in Cutter's Creek, and Lilly's parents forbid her to see him, even though she's now 22. Wow...her mother is something else! I'm glad it was finally explained! What a psycho...
A Lily Blooms, set in the late 1890s in Cutter’s Creek, Montana Territory, is an easy to read, short but sweet novella. This story features Lillian, a sympathetic heroine who has been cut off from love and attention from her mentally ill mother and neglectful father, and James, a hero who has been through a difficult marriage and divorce. The development of their relationship is heartwarming and heartbreaking. The smoothly flowing plot, well-crafted characters, and strong faith element combine to make this an engaging, satisfying read.
4 stars I purchased the novella Cutter's Creek book 4: A Lily Blooms by Kari Trumbo and this review was given freely. A dramatic opening featuring 17 year old Lily at the wedding of the man she loves to someone else. Then jumps ahead five years with a divorced James returning for answers. This is a second chance at love short romance laden with the stigma of divorce, mental illness, a motherless baby and the cruel gossip sometimes found in small towns.
1=dnf / why bother?; 2=not to my taste; 3=A good story; 4=I liked it a lot; 5=a favorite must-read!
Lillian "Lily" Donaldson (17 at the beginning) has had a miserable life. She interrupts a wedding, embarrasses herself, and when the now divorced groom returns five years later, she does everything she can to avoid him. Unfortunately, he's determined to seek her out and talk to her about what she knew....
I received this book free from one of the book sites. I do not remember which one! This is my honest review. What a sweet, sad, loving story. An excellent read from Kari Trumbo. Read all the Cutter's Creek books and enjoy your visit to the little town. Each book is a sweet, stand alone book. Highly recommended.
This is the fourth book in the Cutter's Creek series. Since the series has multiple authors, there are not characters from previous stories. This story was an interesting look at mental illness and following God. It also mentioned sending babies through the mail. It was a very interesting book!
It seemed her parents didn't want her around and disapproved of everything she did. Then Mr. Cahill came calling. This is a short book and perfect for an afternoon read.
This is a very emotional read, a lot of it is sad, but of course it ends Sweet and happy. I felt so bad for Lillian and James, and am glad that they finally were able to come together.
Really enjoyed ready this book. It was a heartbreaking take of what damage parents can real on the way they raise their children. It is a good love story. It's a story of faith.
Hard to understand the family life of Lily. Sad to think a person would be that mistreated. Not really sure I liked the entire story. Too many details left unsolved. The mental illness was not explained clearly.
Oh you just want to cheer for the young couple who should be together, and of course it finally happens, but it took the whole book to get there. The evil characters are surprising at best, have fun reading!
