This is a modern day Washington thriller. The story’s roots go back to World War II.
In 1947 two concentration camp survivors, one Jewish, hunt their tormentors in South America and then disappear into the jungle. One of them emerges from the Amazon in 1962. He has not aged. He graduates from Harvard Medical School then builds a medical and political powerhouse during the years leading up to 2015.
He has not aged.
Excerpt from The Augustine Conspiracy:
"Will it really be better?"
"How can it not. We will be what men of power have dreamed about. We will out-think and outmaneuver our opponents because we will outlive them. We won't be hamstrung by politics or controlled by four, six or eight year programs. What we start we will see finished. What become mistakes will be fixed by your administration. You will be the President of the United States for life. Which, thanks to me, will be for a long, long time."
"How long?" The Senator sounded like Scrooge and Uriah Heep rolled into one greedy man.
Nick laughed slightly, humored by the answer. "I don't know for sure. The latest tests seem to indicate that had we been around to bring George Washington in on this, the United States would have seen only one inauguration."
