Ivy Lane!

Ivy Lane is back along with crazy world of fey, half-fey, fey changeling, human changelings, humans with fey powers
I’m just saying, there's a lot going on right now in this book world
“There are fifty piskies trapped in a garden shed,” I said. “It’s not ‘bad’. It’s a shitstorm of epic proportions.”.
The plot begins with a lotta dead bodies piling up, and a mysterious new power player promising immortality to their followers
So naturally, Ivy puts herself right in the thick of it
“I took a deep breath. “I may have entered myself into a magical tournament for half-faeries.”
I have a kinda love-hate going on with Ivy right now. Good news, she's fierce. Bad news, she's fierce.
Its the second book so she’s met *most* of the leaders of the major groups in the city — minus the Isabel’s coven and yes im bitter about it —
One on hand, she is riffling up all the head honchos that *definitely* have failed in their leadership duties to their people and generally to the world
But she also being a total ass about it …
“So basically… you hid it in a place faeries can easily get into? And we have to go there now, with this guy—” I jerked my thumb at the Chief—“who has no weapons, so you can unlock a potentially devastating spell. That can’t go wrong at all.”
Like she just struts into their offices with no warning, yells at them for not listening to her and later complains when they don’t want to help her
She adamantly refuses to really take charge or be a leader to any group. She won’t stop criticizing the decisions of who did step up to lead and asks why they didn’t ask her opinion
BITCH THEY DONT KNOW YOU
And instead of trying to help them by sharing info… she runs head first into danger, asks for their help usually at last minute without telling them her plan
Like its funny to read and sure she a baddie that can handle herself… but after the first book, I was hoping she was gonna step it up little bit and want to actually help people and share her info… that means collaborating
Overall, another fun quick entertaining read that’s I’d recommend to anyone who just wants to enjoy some quirky characters and decent plot. Definitely no heartthrobbing roller coaster, but enjoyable
This is not a light and fluffy urban fantasy series, which is why I liked it in the first place.
Unfortunately, the heroine is such a negative person and I can't stand her anymore. She's just depressing and grumpy all the time, and not even in a funny way. In the first novel, I liked how she stood up to the hero. But in this one, she is just plain rude, bratty, and hypocritical around him. I liked her backstory too at first, but insteasd of real pain, it always comes off as her throwing herself a pity party. She's never happy about anything. I don't get why the hero likes her other than the fact that he was written as the hero. No real guy would stick around honestly. Their whole relationship comes off as flat and very forced.
The mystery of the week was pretty boring too.....the classic "mystery drug that turns supernaturals psycho" hits the streets and Ivy has to continuously throw herself into life threatening situations to save the world yet again (for a stupidly small payment).
The one thing I liked about her is that she is good to her best friend/roommate. Unfortunately, the roommate doesn't seem to have a life, job, or personality outside of helping Ivy, so even that relationship is a dud.
I received a copy in exchange for an honest review
I really enjoyed the first book in this series and I couldn't wait to continue the series, luckily I didn't have to wait long. Faerie Magic is a great sequel. I love how in some ways it's a direct continuation of the first book when it comes to some plot lines and how it builds upon the basis created in the first book. And in some ways it's also a new adventure. So it has continuity and each book has it's own part of the story that sorta gets wrapped up at the end as well plus hint of what the next book will be about.
This one follows the feel of the first book with an abundance of action, magic, sword fighting, faeries and danger. It has a nice pace that makes sure there isn't a dull moment. In this book there is someone spreading a drug among the half fae and Ivy is determined to figure out what's going. There's a big action packed scene at the end, before things get wrapped up and the hint of the next book makes me wish I already had that one. There were a few things that were a bit too similar to the first book, but not too much to really diminish my enjoyment of the book and with the hint of the next book I think it will go into a different direction then. I am getting into the fantasy mood and this book was exactly the type of book I wanted to read.
I would say this book is mostly story focused, but that doesn't mean there's no attention for the characters. I really like the characters, most of the focus is on main character Ivy and the two side characters Isabelle who is Ivy her best friend and roommate, and The Mage Lord/ Vance who is the love interest and boss of the mages in this city. And their pixie Erwin is a fun addition, other side character fill in the spaces, but they don't get as much attention as the others.
Ivy has been gone through a lot and she has trouble trusting people, but since the last book you do notice a change in that. She's still find it hard to trust people and to tell them everything, but I thought she did a lot better in this book by not waiting till the last moment to tell others about what was going on. She still kept her secrets, but also got better at revealing them when necessary. I thought it was well done and I liked seeing how her character changed due to the events of the last book and what happens in this one. She also comes to terms with her magic more and starts training to use it. I really liked seeing her character develop.
And then there is the romance, it stays on the sidelines, but I am a big fan of how the romance is handled. Ivy is a tad too stubborn and independent at times, but she sure found her match in the Mage Lord/ Vance. He cares about her, has her back and is sometimes a bit bossy and intimidating too. He sure has a powerful presence and I liked how he is a bit mysterious, but also open towards Ivy. I like these two together, at the start of the book I was afraid their relationship was going to revert backwards, with the miscommunication and lies they kept, but it got resolved pretty soon. They still have their banter and they grow even closer in this book, even though they don't quite come at that stage where I would call them a couple, but they are close. I can't wait to see how things between them develop in the next book.
We learn more about the world in this book too, bits and pieces we learn here make the world come a bit more alive. Some things might be a tad confusing or don't fully make sense or get fully explained, but overall I enjoy spending time in this world. There's a bit more focus on the half fae in this book, so we learn more about those and the different realms. The world building isn't really outstanding, but it still has original touches and I still like how the author decides to set this series after the faerie apocalypse has taken place and how we still see signs of that now and how it changed the world.
To summarize: the sequel is just as good as the first book. This book is fast paced and doesn't have a dull moment as Ivy investigates a drug that's going around among half fae. It's packed full with action, magic, fights and the half-fae. It's story driven, but also had a great cast of characters. I like how we see Ivy change and develop in this book. And I really like the touch of romance added to the story. We learn more about the world and it's interesting setting with how it's set after the fae apocalypse. All in all I am really enjoying this series so far and am looking forward to book 3!
The first couple chapters drove me insane- Ivy pretty much lets the mage lord walk all over her.Yes, she's snarky to him a lot but it's more of a weak, half-assed kind of snarky that somehow makes her look like a child throwing a tantrum (even though her reasons for being mad are valid). Actually, a lot of her actions (as well as those of other characters) throughout the book made me want to scream, it was so frustrating...
Even though the ending is technically considered a cliffhanger, I don't feel particularly upset or obsessed with getting my hands on the next book. Overall, I'm still not sure why I decided to read and finish this. I guess I kept thinking that the characters were going to improve, but I think I'm done with this series lol.
I love urban fantasy that is spot on and stays true to the characters. Ms. Adams does all of that and more! Ivy handles so much in the present while dealing better than most would with her past. The Lord Mage is still a bit of a mystery but he he likes Ivy and always has her back, so I'm on his side for now. There was just enough romance to keep you smiling and plenty of action to keep you entertained. I loved this book and need more soon! P.s. I'd love a novella or an extra chapter from Vance's POV
Ivy continues to be a tough heroine if a bit of a Lone Ranger complex. She keeps choosing to not tell her best friend, and Vance as well, important information with the idea that she is protecting them. Then she goes off by herself and gets hurt all the time, which is very reckless. Hopefully that habit changes later on or this will be a very short series.
This was a great follow up sequel to the last book. Ivy lives up to her kick butt reputation in the action filled book. When you add in Lord Mage, or Vance well the steam rises a bit. so far it is just kissing, since one problem after another keeps happening. Someone has killed a high ranking Mage, and. a drug is circulating that makes everyone turn on each other. This all puts Ivy into great personal harm, and the line between complete fae takeover once again is in peril. The action builds, and with her flatmates help with spells, and disguises, and healing slaves, they take on all the evil. I love how any questions from book one were answered, but leaves you wanting the next book in the series. I have already collected it. This is a great writer of urban fantasies.
And this is the last book i will read from this series. This series lacks a basic concept for my taste. It jumps from one Supernatural case to the next without backbone. The heroine is getting more and more annoying. She is the one to save the world... blah blah blah. Her martyr complex grated on my nerves. Her stubbornness and lying by omission became annoying, throwing tantrums like a child. All she does is righteous and others are idiots and not doing their jobs. She has the social skills of a 3 year old.
Browsing through the following books it gets less and less appealing. And there is no significant change nor growth in the characters and the story surrounding them. Just one deathly enemy popping up after another.
The faerie-fighting adventures continue for Ivy and Vance in this sequel to FAERIE BLOOD, and oh my GOD how good can this series get? I, for one, can't wait to find out. I thought this was a very well-done sequel, balancing loose ties from Book One and adding plenty more crumbs for not only this book but more books to come. This isn't an easy thing to do, but FAERIE MAGIC is a super-solid sequel. 5 stars! <3
So Ivy is right back where she started...broke. She was kind of banking on the Mage Lord to give her some work but has disappeared. Now there is trouble with some half bloods going crazy and committing murder. Then there is the fact that the son of the fae who kept her as a child is trying to open the way to faery.
This was ok...the story was ok, the characters were ok...it just didn't have anything that extra oomph that would make me want to continue the series.
I was hoping to see more character development and world building in this book. Ivy continues to slightly bug me with her stupidity. I'd like to see more between her and Vance. Maybe he can help her get her life together. I'll give the next book a chance but I'm not sure how much more I'll be reading.
While I was disappointed in how the author played out the romance part, she didn't fail to deliver with action and excitement! As much as I hate cliffhanger endings, I actually liked the way this played out and look forward to book 3!
This one frustrated me a little. I can't figure out why Ivy does some of the things she does, it's sometimes nonsensical and the flimsiest excuses have her making bad decisions. Thankfully no permanent death for her or loved ones but sheesh. Then there's Ivy's identity as a character that starts getting choppy and confused which is much different from the first book.
Ivy started out sort of tough with some vulnerability, a bit of caring and strong morals with some sense to her while hiding her magic because it was a death sentence. At one point we get the hint that Ivy hadn't had much in the way of a relationship, just hook ups when needed.
In this book, Ivy is reckless, immature, makes dumb decisions and for some reason after knowing him for a few weeks, tells Vance if he's looking for a casual hookup to get lost. Blames it on his being her boss... except that hasn't stopped any of the kissing. Either professional or not, just stick to one.
The other characters in the book add some interesting pieces but I found myself getting confused about Avakis and Velkas. The names are too similar and I can't say which one was the sidhe lord Ivy killed and took his magic and which one she killed in a dual in the Grey Vale. Hopefully she gets paid soon so that we're not stuck in this weird limbo where we don't know if she'll be able to pay her rent or not.
One other thing that I found to be an annoyance in this book was all of the times Ivy withheld information about her case from Vance. And all for dumb reasons. She almost dies and then hides in her flat from Vance for some strange reason. Just sighs with this one and I was really hoping it would be a really good series.
So I didn't enjoy this one as much as I did the first one. The first half of the book sucked me in just like the first one did. But as I was reading I noticed a reoccurring theme going on. And it kind of ruined the book for me. I found myself not really wanting to finish it. I did eventually finish it, but it was more because I wanted to finish it so that I could move onto a different book, then any real desire to find out how this book ended.
I had a really big problem with Ivy in this book. I couldn't stand how much she basically lied about almost everything, to everybody in this book. It was always half truths with her in this book. And it really got on my nerves. I don't know if she what she was doing was because she was trying to protect them in some way? Or if she just thought they couldn't handle the truth of what was really going on. Or if maybe she thought she was the only one that could fix the problem. Which I guess wouldn't be so bad if not for the fact that she was usually wrong with her guess about what was going on. And the fact that she kept throwing herself into dangerous situations that everybody was warning her against. But she just disregarded all of it because she knew best.🙄🙄🙄
As much as I enjoyed the first book, and the first half of this book.. I'm just not sure if I will continue to read this series. It's not a good sign that the "cliffhanger" didn't have me dying to know what was gonna happen in the next one.
This book was honestly just a wash, rinse, and repeat of the 1st book. The only* difference being that the antagonist of this one is half human and thus has a ghost to leave behind to threaten the h. There wasn't really any additional world building or character building. And I'm kinda salty about the fact that we're introduced to 5 different races in the 1st book, but we've yet to actually have any meaningful meeting with the witches, shifters or humans (I'ma be honest I really don't care about the humans just needed to point out we haven't met them either). I'm also kinda bothered by the fact that all of the leaders we've met thus far are legit trash people. It's like their sole purpose is to highlight how great the H is as a leader. Like there's no way that people that incompetent would be chosen to lead for that long (I'm conveniently ignoring many US leaders). Also why is everyone and their cousin able to open the veil??? It's like one side eye away from bursting open 🙄. On the whole tho, I didn't hate it. I struggled to finish mostly because the plot lines were essentially the same as the first book, but I'm willing to give #3 a chance to do better. This world def has potential.

With the sexy and arrogant Mage Lord pressuring me to join his team and a dark movement in the magical underworld threatening to ignite a war between the half-faeries and other supernaturals, I have my work cut out. But then I learn something about my own magic that changes the playing field. If I don't come out on top, a second faerie apocalypse is on the horizon Vance and Ivy can't seem to get a break, their attraction is powerful but so are their enemies and problems. Ivy goes undercover in half-fae territory and always seems to end up bloody, she needs to learn to control her magic. I am enjoying the characters, the supporting characters are just as important as the main characters and I look forward to seeing how Ivy maneuvers through her issues.
Narrated by Jill Smith 4 ⭐ I had to wait to finish all the books to write my review, mainly because I listened to the first 4 books with only sleep to stop me in between. It is the kind of light urban fantasy with medium world building that draws you in. Ivy Lane - FMC - she has a story nobody knows. She is a private investigator specializing in supernatural cases.
Lord Colton Vance - Head of the mages, a displacer - “It means I can manipulate space and matter to some degree.” - and a quarter shifter.
Isabel - Witch, Ivy’s bff Drake - a fire conjurer Erwin the piskie - unwanted pet, nuisance.
We have a different villain with basically the main goal in each book. Destroy the veil between the Fayre world and the human world and take everything over.
The conflict deepens as Ivy investigates magical crimes involving illegal spell casting and rogue fae. She manages to infiltrate herself in the world of half faeries, and once again puts herself in harm's way. Luckily, lord Mage is there to back her up, as long as she ask for his help.
Ivy Lane is a human with faerie magic she acquired when she was stolen as a child by a Sidhe Lord from the Grey Vale; Lord Vance Colton head Mage, and one quarter shifter, with the power of displacement; together they are battling to keep the veil between the worlds shut and to prevent another faerie uprising.
Calder is a changeling son of Avakis the full blooded Sidhe Lord Ivy stole her powers from; half blooded Sidhe he's determined to open the veil and become immortal. Lacking the understanding that Ivy has about the realms of Summer and Winter he has created a drug to detach the half fae from their minds and turn them into crazed, frenzied killing machines, not that they are aware because he's telling them it's going to give them access across the veil and immortality and is staging prize fights and only the winner receives it. To try and get closer Ivy enters the competition but Calder is after her and nothing will stop him.
Ivy is back and this time she has to face the mage lord who absolutely wants her to join his troops. Especially since there's movement in the magical underworld and it threatens to spark a war between the supernaturals and the half-faeries. Except that a deadly serum is on the market to lure the half-faeries with the promise of immortality. Ivy will have to find out where it came from by infiltrating a dangerous magic contest.
A book read in one sitting so I was immediately hooked on the story so gripping, captivating, addictive, full of intrigue, suspense and twists and turns with characters as endearing as ever. I can't wait to continue reading the series, I love the author's writing so addictive.
This is the second book in the series and it is easily as good as the first. Possibly even better! Ivy is back to butt kicking and being awesome! Her....sort of boyfriend/boss....the mage lord is MIA and she still kicks major butt. I love that she doesn't turn into a wuss just because a strong man shows interest. Some books I have read do that and i always cry over a kick butt chick turning into a dependent pansy. luckily Ivy has not done that. The other characters are still awesome and getting to know them more is fun. I loved the plot, which was fast paced action and intrigue. I highly recommend this book, and series in general, to anyone that likes reading.
Faerie Magic is the second book in The Changeling Chronicles series by Emma L. Adams. In the previous book, Ivy Lane worked side by side with Mage Lord Vance Colton to find a missing child. Now, that Ivy is convinced that Vance won't kill her for having faerie magic, she can't help but work with him on faerie related issues that are plaguing Birmingham. Specifically, there is a serum that is causing the half-faeries to attack each other. Ivy needs to go undercover to find out more about the serum and to stop it from harming anyone else. Overall, this was a great addition to the series. The plot is fast moving and will hold your attention.
I like Ivy, she's strong and determined to do what's right regardless of the cost. I also like Isabel, everyone should have a friend like that. And I love Vance and how the relationship is progressing. I just wish we could get some insight into what he's thinking. I also hope the third book doesn't have Ivy lying or keeping things from Vance. I get why she was hesitant at the beginning of the book, but more of the hot and cold attitude could get tiring. Anyway, I'm so glad the series is complete I can go straight to book 3.
I enjoyed this book just as much as the first. Ivy Lane is a kickass heroine that is more afraid of relationships than her faire magic. I loved that the blooming attraction between her and the Mage Lord Vance Colton seems to be growing on both sides. To solve this case it takes almost everything Ivy has and then some. I recommend you take a chance and read this series. I am glad I did!
Great series with a great cast of characters and plenty of action. You have a world that the ferry realms invaded and were then repealed. Humans magical mages necromancers and a half fairies still live in our world and must coexist. See what our characters can get into in this book as they try to save and fix the world again. Weather is good there is always some evil trying to up and everything. Check them out
Slowly the heroine as well as the reader discovers more and more about the unique power sleeping in her. Unfortunately the more powerful she gets, the bigger the challenges become. In the second book of the chronicles Ivy Lane, her want to be lover and her friend the witch Isabel come closer the mystery of Ivy but the final break through is not to come. You will find a fast and exciting story till the end.
This installment is much darker and has lot of fights, adventure, Ivy discovering a bit more about her magic, a lit bit of romance , sweet friendship between Ivy and Isabel and lots and lots of nail biting near death experiences. I really loved this book and already onto the next installment.
I found this sequel to be as good as the first book in the series if not better. You find yourself cheering on the heroine in her quest to right the world of evil as well in her own romantic pursuits. Good read
