As our aged 'hero' Inuyashiki uses his empowerment and change of self and world view, lead to him better understanding his daughter; his obviously-soon-to-be nemesis Shishigami throws all caution to the wind and starts massacring people publicly, stating with an entire police station!! Wanton decimation needs to have a story within it, and lots of this volume just seems gratuitous to me, but the art remains stellar. A 7 out of 12, Three Star read, I wish this series would focus more on story than acts of explicit violence.

As I mentioned earlier, the main antagonist is, in my opinion, the central issue with this series.

The narrative continues to focus on him, with Oku investing heavily in his character development. While it's uncertain if this will ultimately succeed, so far it has been solid enough.

So Hero decides to go full on villain and go head to head with the police. So 80% of this volume is one big fight scene, and while sometimes cool to view, is a bit to overdone for me. I did however like the small plot progression at the end and what the old man and his daughter are doing. A 3 out of 5.

ReRead (more Complete)

Most of this volume is made up of Shishigami being repeatedly shot and not dying.
Hence the lower rating than most of the other volumes...
Shishigami also becomes somewhat of a media idol...especially with the girls into his looks .
Mari finds out more about her father and tells her parents her desire to draw manga

Shishigami decides to go full-on villain as he declares war on the police. The creator indulges in decompressed storytelling as entire chapters are nothing but close-quarters shoot-outs. Thousands of bullets fly in a ballet of violence.

This series started really strong. However, it started to get campy with volume 4 and the whole cell-phone-connected-to-brain thing. That seemed really rushed and unnecessary. The plot continues to develop in a progressively nonsensical way. It was somewhat believable when Hiro was talked into saving lives (as reparation for all of his initial violence), but then when the police tried to catch him again (as of course they would), Hiro suddenly wanted to murder all of the people in Japan. Why?

I think villains are more interesting when the reader understands where they're coming from. Furthermore, they should believe in their evil cause enough to stick with it for more than one volume.

As the SAT enters Shion's house, she is awake as she is going to the bathroom, so she screams out at Hiro to run away, but the tiny apartment is overrun with the SAT, riddling everyone (Shion and Granny included) with a hail of bullets.

This angers Hiro to no extent, of course, so he blows up the apartment with the attack team and flies off with both Shion and Grandma. It seemed that both were dead, but later on they show up, which means Hiro healed them in time (I just went back, he was holding both their hands, but they didn't wake up then, which is why I thought they were dead).

It is a Declaration of War! Hiro Vs. the Police! He goes into a police department, and just like an all-too-familiar Infiltrational Unit that resembles a certain Austrian actor, he kills off the entire police department. Not before threatening that he will kill whoever comes back to try and get him.

One of the officers says that the Japanese police, the government and the army will not let him get away with it, so he says that he will just simply kill them all.

As he leaves, it seems that several precincts have arrived and are now waiting for him. Again, they riddle him with bullets, but his defense mechanisms kick in and he kills everyone on sight, on live-TV, no less!

Hiro then flies away and disappears into the night.

A minor subplot, is that Mari, Ichiro's daughter, wants to draw manga and beat his neighbour (a famous mangaka) and his son, as she has been secretly drawing manga on her own and plans to enter, and win, the manga rookie contest and get serialized.

THEN, we see what happened to Shion and her granny, they are now living in a new apartment and it seems that Hiro is depositing money into their bank account. Even though he's now withdrawn from them, he still wants to care for them.

At this point, Mari is talking to a classmate and ponders the idea of going to Art School, as she's had the idea of becoming a mangaka altogether. She then discovers Ichiro, her dad, and Ando walking together. It was funny that her first idea was that her dad was having an affair with a young boy, but then decided against it and thought that a much better explanation was that Ando was his son from another marriage.

She follows them into a hospital and notices they both go into a terminal patient's room, it's not clear whether she understands what is going on, but we see that her reaction is one of surprise. She's then seen reading an article on her phone about a 'god' performing all types of miracles in hospitals for dying patients.

The icing on the cake, is that she sees them discussing a fire, and sees her father take off in flight, her face showing nothing but amazement.

Ichiro is now training how to drive a car with his 'mind', and although Ando is happy, he is all too quick to remark that Hiro can drive at least five or eight at the same time.

I love how expressive their faces are, Oku's a wonderful artist, that can't be denied. One of the happiest moments is seeing Ichiro come home and being greeted by Hanako his trusty Shiba dog. :)

While this is happening, Mari is discussing with her mother her dream and plan of becoming a mangaka, which her mom disapproves. Ichiro then seats with the both of them, and decides that if their daughter graduates High School, it is up to them to support her decision. Mari agrees, saying that she will study hard to graduate from High School and THEN follow her dream. This at least pleases her mother.

Finally, Hiro is seen lounging about in some rooftop, looking straight at a camera in the palm of his hand and broadcasting himself, and this is where he declares that if he will not be left alone, then he has no choice but to kill.them.all.

That's right! He is actively declaring war on Japan.

Teens make fun of this declaration, but as usual, Hiro is not playing around, he starts 'shooting' with his finger-gun into the camera, killing a lot of people that were watching the broadcast, a surge of terror, washing all over Japan...

This is a review of the entire series.

Fifty-eight-year-old Ichiro Inuyashiki is down on his luck and still struggling to find a place in the world after living for so long. He’s constantly ignored, disrespected and put down by his dissatisfied family and judgmental peers regardless of how much effort he puts into trying to give them everything he can to make them happy. He’s too depressed and afraid to stand up for himself and he struggles to find a reason to keep living such an unfulfilling life. Things seem to brighten up for him after he adopts a cute and affectionate dog he names Hanako, but his happiness is instantly robbed from him when he learns from his doctor that he’s been diagnosed with cancer and has less than three months left to live.

Ready to run away from all of his responsibilities and burdens, Ichiro takes a long walk away from home with Hanako and stops to take a rest under the night sky in an empty park to gather his thoughts. Just when things seem like they’ve reached their lowest point, a UFO of all things comes crashing down to earth and lands right on top of the frail old man and a nearby bystander. It seems to be an unfortunate end for Ichiro, until he wakes up completely unscathed and feeling healthier than ever. Hanako is still by his side when he awakes, and both of them know that something isn’t quite right. It seems that the aliens driving the UFO took pity on the poor old man and performed an emergency operation to bring him back from the dead, upgrading his body with their superior technology and leaving him with a few new tricks up his sleeve to keep him safe from harm, such as enhanced vision, hearing, strength, durability and the ability to fly.

With his new and improved hearing capabilities, Ichiro overhears a group of young thugs ganging up on homeless people and beating them to death with baseball bats in the distance. He instinctively rushes to the aid of their next victim and gives the kids the scare of their life after awakening his new superhuman abilities. The homeless man is saved and the kids are brought to justice. For the first time in his life, Ichiro feels like his existence actually means something.

After saving the homeless man, Ichiro takes control of his life with his newfound abilities by using them to save thousands of innocent people from death and violence. After living through one tragedy after another, Ichiro finally finds his purpose, becoming a hero of the people and earning the love and respect he’s desperately wanted since he was a young boy.

Unknown to Ichiro however, the boy that happened to be at the park on the night of the incident went through a similar procedure. The antagonist is a sociopathic teenage boy named Hiro Shishigami, who was blessed with the same godlike powers as Ichiro after having his body reconstructed by the aliens. Unlike the kind old man however, Hiro has no intentions of using his powers for good. And so begins an unlikely battle between a heroic, lovable grandpa and a young genocidal maniac.

Inuyashiki explores what happens when people suddenly gain the power of gods. Some people use it to turn their lives around, other people use it to take revenge on the world. Power doesn’t always corrupt a person, there are a few genuinely good souls out there that put their power and influence to good use. Ichiro is a humble man that only feels alive when he saves other people from death and despair, he uses his power out of love for humanity and only wishes to be loved in return. He’s fragile and reliant on others, but he’s selfless and heroic all the same.

Hiro only feels alive when he sees other lives come to an end. He hates the world and he feels nothing towards others, with the exception of his mother, a single friend from school and a girl he develops surprisingly warm feelings for. This is where his sociopathic tendencies begin to get more complex, because he genuinely seems capable of having strong feelings toward a select group of people. He also cries for fictional characters when reading his favorite books and he even breaks down in tears when bad things happen to the few people he cares about. His unpredictable nature makes him a terrifying and fascinating individual, breaking the definition of a pure sociopath or psychopath.

That being said, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a more interesting hero/villain dynamic than that of a sweet old grandpa and a demented teenager. One thing I absolutely loved about the dark subject matter of the story is that the extreme violence and psychological horror elements throughout the series were taken very seriously. It’s never done just for shock value or being over the top, even though there are quite a few incredibly disturbing moments. Every single time someone dies or a cruel act is performed, the characters always take the time to reflect on the aftermath of the consequences of what happened and gives you enough time to soak in the pain.

Ichiro values human life, and even sheds tears when he has no choice but to use violence against irredeemable criminals that refuse to surrender to justice. Even Hiro begins to reflect on his life choices and abuse of his superhuman powers after the consequences of his actions catch up to him and transform his unstoppable rampage into an ocean of guilt, regret and self-loathing. Not a single act goes unpunished in this series, and the way these actions linger in the characters' minds and forces them to take a second look at themselves is masterfully done.

It’s a very original take and criticism on the superhero genre. Heroes and villains are criticized in equal measure. You can rarely do something good without having a few negative consequences that go along with it, and the opposite can also be true. It portrays society in a nihilistic, yet very believable way by cleverly integrating parodies of twitter drama and forum-based chat sites such as 4chan, where everyone is desensitized to kindness and cruelty and get off on dehumanizing each other from behind the safety of a computer monitor. If a superhero or a supervillain were to appear in this day and age, many people would probably shrug off their actions because they’ve been so desensitized by internet culture and ultra-violent media. People can hear about school shootings and terrorist attacks that killed thousands of innocent people on the news everyday and not bat an eye because they’ve heard the same old story so many times before. As sad as it may sound, sometimes people just come to expect the absolute worst from the world and they grow numb to the shocking events that transpire every moment. The satirical yet harsh social commentary benefits the adult superhero narrative to great effect.

Inuyashiki isn’t all doom and gloom, however. It’s actually a very heartwarming tale about being able to overcome your status as an outcast, accepting your role in the world and coming to terms with your past in order to change your life around for the greater good. I think the ending really hits home with these themes and messages, and it sure as hell sent me through an emotional roller coaster.

If there’s one thing to take away from this series, it’s that everyone has a hero inside of them waiting for their chance to shine. No matter how feeble, meaningless or cruel your past actions may have been, there’s always a new opportunity waiting just around the corner if you ever decide to make a change for the better and bring something good into the world. These acts of kindness might not make up for the things you’ve done in the past, but there’s no denying that they have the potential to make the future a brighter place for someone else. No matter how insignificant they may seem, every little action, choice and sacrifice you make has the power to change the future. It’s never too late to start doing the right thing.

Engggg...

Saya jadi gemas. Kemana Ichirou???

Well, sebagai orangtua yang kurang melek teknologi, tentu saja ia kalah jauh dibandingkan Hiro. Itulah mengapa ia membutuhkan Andou. Terus kok lama banget ngga nemu2 cara menghentikan Hiro? Keburu habis rakyat Jepang ditembaki Hiro.

Kegilaan Hiro masih berlanjut hingga akhir volume. Duh, Ichirou, please DO SOMETHING!!!

The police go full-auto on Hiro, killing his classmate and grandma in the process, before he flees. At least he resurrects them. Breaking news! The Earth is threatened by an asteroid. An international team is on it, so let's get back to the real action. Hiro massacres a police station in retaliation, then a special forces unit. After emptying hundreds of rounds in his body with no use, the police resort to - wait for it - more bullets. Again, to no avail.

At least Inuyashiki takes note of this while he is shakily eating his rice. Other people act like mindless fangirls, creating fan clubs for Hiro that have more and more members. Hiro does his own thing - he decides to kill 100 people each day until he kills every Japanese citizen. His math must be wrong because the regular birth rate in Japan can easily cover 100 deaths a day. But it's manga, so it's ok.

Hiro as a character is all over the place. After rampaging against 2chan trolls who rejoiced his mother’s su*xide, he is influenced by his fangirl to become a healer in order to counter the brutal killings he’s committed prior. Once SWAT comes in and massacres the girl and her grandmother, he then forgoes the healer shtick and is ready to annihilate the whole of Japan.. I suppose this wouldn’t bother me so much if he didn’t rely so heavily on the Yuyu Hakusho finger gun for each kill… it gets old very fast.

Also, why is the dog totally disregarded? The manga started with what looked like a beautiful companionship between a kind old man and his dog, and for what?
Pretty disappointed.

Shishigami vs Japon !!!

Shishigami is on the run and has declared war on the Japanese police force. Except since he's a super machine, there's literally nothing they can do to stop him. Only Inuyashiki can...if he can find him.

Now this story is starting to feel like a cyberpunk Death Note. The criminal is even a handsome high school kid with mysterious death powers that immediately gets fan clubs because he's hot. But, I'm not complaining.

This series has 10 volumes.

This volume had a lot more action than the previous one and was way more interesting. We also got to know a bit more about Inuyashiki's daughter, I liked that. Also, we started hearing about a huge asteroid heading towards Earth.
