Having welcomed an alien into his crew and his bed, the captain has more than enough to worry about without the looming threat of a birthday he’d rather forget. It’s just as well that his ship develops a catastrophic malfunction and crash lands before anyone can ask him how old he’s turning. But his good luck only lasts so long; when he and his men follow Rux to an abandoned city in search of replacement parts so they can effect repairs, one disaster follows another. Worse yet, Zachery, the captain’s most headstrong lover, is developing a crush on the one member of the crew he really shouldn’t…
The Captain's Calamity contains adult content suitable for mature readers only.
Still fun, still adventurous, this 3rd installment finds our intrepid crew exploring the newly found alien planet, combing its abandoned cities for much needed spare parts for their ship.
This series has been slowly evolving and despite the shenanigans, I appreciated a deepening of the various relationships, not only as how they related to the dashing Captain, but also still, how his many lovers interact with each other, further expanding their tentative connections with other crew members.
Entertaining and sexy with just those little dashes of feels that adds a richer layer to this huge group of lovers that’s nicely keeping me on my toes. I look forward to the next chapter!
The Adrift Series has become a necessary read in my life. I impatiently wait for the next story. Each one unravels a new mystery, excites my lady bits with the erotic scenes, and is filled with depth. All of this in a compact short story that never feels rushed or lacking.
In this adventure packed edition it seems something has malfunctioned on The Prayer causing it to crash land. The crew were on their way to an abandoned city Rux had told them about. Per Rux the parts that are needed to fix the Prayer are located in the city and he knows where.
All the captain's men, minus Rick who was hurt in the crash, head out. It seems Rux hasn't been as forthcoming with himself and his past and the city isn't quite as abandoned as he thought. Oops.
Throughout The Captain's Calamity there's a sense of betrayal, a bit of peril, and feelings are hurt when the captain's men find out some information that has been withheld.
It was so much fun to read!!
What I look forward to the most is the deepening of character development. In The Captain's Calamity, T.J. Land did not disappoint. We got to see different sides of all the captain's men. PLUS we get to unravel a layer of Echo and say what about Antoine? I was beyond thrilled. I didn't see this coming. At. All.
T.J. Land always keeps me on edge, bouncing in my seat, hungry for more.
This series, with its stories about “the captain” and “his men” – making up a quintet of very different lovers – just keeps getting better. The third installment was enjoyable because there is a renewed sense of adventure as the crew explores the planet, but also because there is a lot of new information about the captain’s personal life.
While the captain previously kept his lovers in the dark, he is now beginning to open up. Partially this is because the group has “admitted” they will not make it back to Earth and have found a potential new home planet. The rules necessarily change if maintaining discipline in the confines of a spaceship is no longer a concern. But partially his becoming more like a member of the crew and less like a distant authority figure is because he himself has changed. Having four lovers will do that to a man…
The main events of this installment center around the ship’s crash landing (the engines have finally given up the ghost), the exploration of an alien city with the mysterious Rux as their guide, and the crew’s adventures inside an ancient alien research facility as they look for spare parts. I certainly did not expect what happens once they were inside, nor Rux’s revelations! It made for an exciting, suspenseful read and while some questions were answered, I hope to find out even more in the next book.
If you like stories about men who encounter the unexpected when exploring a potential new home planet, if you’re a fan of polyamorous relationships and want to find out more about the quietest member of the captain’s quintet, and if you’re looking for a suspenseful read with lots of revelations and some very hot sex of the unexpected kind, then you will probably like this novella.

I cannot begin to tell you how much I love this series and the characters. Each book T.J. Land writes just increases my fascination with the Captain and his men.
After an accident on the ship causes them to crash land, the Captain and crew follow Rux to an abandoned city to find the parts that will repair the ship and get them back in the sky. However, as they explore the abandoned buildings, they discover Rux is not everything he’s made himself to be. Meanwhile, Zachery starts to have a crush on Antoine which is completely forbidden, and Thomas starts to take more notice of Echo, who seems to be okay with the attention. Rick, sadly, is down for the count in this book.
I need the next book right now. Also, I never want this series to end.
There is more revealed about Antoine than in the last book, and some of the men get to know him better. Also, Thomas gets to know Echo more and discovers a fascinating secret about him. I did not see it coming, and it made me absolutely squeal with joy. JOY, I tell you! My favorite silent character has become even more complex, and I love him and the author for the way he is written!
In order to fully enjoy this book, you must read the series in order. Yes, it has a polyamorous relationship between consenting adults. Yes, there is an alien involved. But holy cow, this is a series not to miss, and I very impatiently wait for the next in the series!
Maybe I’ll go reread this book to help pass the time.
The individual books are too short and they don't feel like separate installments, they are simply chapters organized by adventure/location. If you want to read this series, get Adrift: The Collection.
I’m starting to expect this books as I would expect the weekly episode of a Sci-Fi show I like. It certainly feels that way and I loved it.
After The Prayer presents some major malfunction, the crew must search in an abandon city for parts to repair it, but this time, luck doesn’t seemed to be on their side.
This is the third book of the series, by now the reader already knows the characters and the way the interactions and relationships between them work. Maybe because of that, this time the author take a little more time on the development of the plot and it was great. It took a little less time in the sexual habits on the crew members, which was fine at this point, and manage to put together a very interesting adventure. It had a faster pace than the previous book, I finished it in one sit.
This has been my favorite of the three books. It took some time to explore the character that have been left mostly as a mystery in the other books and it makes a nice effort to explore their sexuality.
One thing I didn’t like was the ending. It didn’t feel like a good closure. I’m not sure if l should look this as a bad thing or exactly the opposite because it made me feel like there is an opportunity of more of this characters in the future, and that’s something I would really like to read.
Overall, and talking about the whole series and not just this book, I’ve had some really fun time reading it, I loved the characters, it had been easy to read, entertaining and very well written. I think any reader would have a fun time reading it.

I enjoy sci fi romance and this is one book I knew I couldn’t pass up. There are some funny moments and the action is great! The sex is very hot, it always is when there’s more than two people. Overall, I enjoyed the story and I’ll be looking forward to the next book. http://thetbrpile.weebly.com/reviews/...
The Captain's sleeping with three men and an alien and he still hasn't told any of them his first name, his birthday's coming up and he really doesn't want anyone to ask how old he is. As if he doesn't have enough to worry about, his ship develops a catastrophic malfunction and crash lands.
Luckily, Rux, the alien, knows an abandoned city where they can get spare parts. Unluckily, Rux apparently doesn't know as much as he claims, which is a bit of a disaster.
And, on the side, one of the Captain's lovers appears to have developed a wandering eye, or at least, and impossible crush.
The continuing adventures of the Captain and crew of The Prayer.
As always it was great fun. The characters are developing - Rick, Zachary and Thomas are more confident of their Captain's affections, and their relationship with each other and the other members of the crew is changing too. They're taking more notice of Echo, their strange and silent crewmate, and of Antoine - whose hate-hate relationship with the Captain is still a source of mystery to them.
I like the way the alien, Rux, is written - it's obvious anyone that arrogant and superior is heading for a fall, and when it happens, and you find out why...I'm looking forward to the next episode. I hope there's a next episode!
It's also become more sci-fi - considering they're on a spaceship and stranded on a strange planet, it's been a bit short on the whole alien life form/technology so far, apart from Rux, obviously - not that I mind. There was an alien lab and a rather satisfying battle which, bearing in mind who we're talking about, had some funny moments, too. Their banter, arguments and the occasional misunderstanding are very amusing - for example, during a chase, an argument ensues about attitudes to sex and the Marquis de Sade, which made me laugh.
As I've mentioned before, this is well written, which is a pleasure, along with a cracking story. It's not a very long book, but it's still satisfying and I enjoyed it.

I just have to be completely honest here and say that I live TJ Land's series Adrift. With each book that I read, I find myself wanting more. Book three is no different from the other two books in the series. I loved it also.
I was so surprised that in this book that Echo found himself getting closer to someone on the ship. And I have to say that I am excited about reading the next book in the series when it comes out to find out if Echo and this other person keep getting closer and if they will somehow end up together.
Even though Rux was not completely honest with the captain and crew about "his people", I find that I really like him. There is just this innocence about him even though he is probably far from it.
Antoine is another one that is a mystery to me. I think in his own way that Antoine is attracted to Zachary. They would make a very odd couple but as we learned in this book, they have a lot more in common then most realize or know about and I think that is grounds for the start of some sort of relationship for them.
I really feel bad for Rick. He was hurt in this book but he is stronger then anyone gives him credit for because he is taking everything in stride. I also think that because of this incident that left him injured that it could lead to him and Zachary having a more open relationship with each other and bring them closer together.
I cannot wait till the next book comes out and see what this crew will get up to next. Another great book in this series.

The Captain's Calamity is a light and fun read, but I find it lacks depth.
I'll admit that I prefer this installment of the Adrift series over the second book, The Captain's Encounter. There is action and intrigue and some character growth. There isn't as much sex in this book as the others. That is not a complaint, as I preferred the shift in focus. But it's worth pointing out.
I do appreciate the diversity of the characters in this story. It adds an interesting element to the relationships.
In general, I find this story is broken into too many small parts for my taste. I would prefer if it was all in one book, or possibly two, depending on how much more is planned for this series.
I'm still looking forward to see what happens next. I recommend this series to someone looking for an over-the-top, erotic Sci-Fi.

I am really enjoying this series. Each book is a short, quick read full of fluffy bits and humor. Great way to suspend reality for a few hours.
Love the interaction between all the crew and seeing new dynamics develop in this book. Liked getting to know even more about the characters. Each book has a little bit more being revealed about the crew leaving me with the feeling I was getting to know them and like them.
The captain was not the main focus on this one. I really liked getting to see other pairings among the crew.
Really looking forward to next book. Can not wait to see what the crew will be facing next.
I love how the different links in the polycule are continuing to develop. I'm so glad to see Echo coming into his own with more than just his bonds to the Captain and Antoine now, along with his silent sense of command. And it's excellent to have a little honesty from Rux finally. On to the next!
This author continues to surprise me, and I never want this series to end. Echo has been my favorite since the start and this was an awesome revelation about him.
