I've recently discovered this series of short fantasy stories that each feature an adventure that starts with the turn of a skeleton key. This is the second book I've tracked down in this series that features all manner of paranormal authors. Most admittedly are known to me but there are several here who are completely new to this reader and what a treat its turning out to be.
This book features oddly enough a romance writer who is kind of struggling with her characters! She has created a world and thinks she knows what works but for some peculiar reason her muse just refuses to cooperate ! So imagine her shock when she finds a key that opens what appears to be a magical portal right into the world of dragons that she has created! Finding herself rescued by the villain Hargreave is just the start of Amanda's adventure though and pretty soon this topsy turvy world just gets more bizarre! So Amanda has a pretty good imagination but is this real or not?
I suppose every reader of romance would at some point like to be part of the story and that's exactly what happens here. The difference is that the characters Amanda created dont quite play by her rules! The bad guy turns out to be well frankly not quite as evil as he could be but he is still a tad brutal and bloodthirsty at times . Amanda isn't the strongest heroine I've read but perhaps that's because the author intended her to feel normal . An almost medieval feel to the Dragons homeworld but because Amanda imagined it there is some technology. I struggled occasionally to imagine the dragons unfortunately as I couldn't quite picture their wings and what happened to them but as an escape from reality it was entertaining enough. I would have preferred some more answers and a stronger ending as I didn't really feel any bad guys got their comeuppance but hey maybe I'm getting as bloodthirsty as the dragons!

I have to admit I found this on goodreads because one of my friends had read it I had a quick glance at the blurb and I loved it so grabbed it.

I loved how this story started, I actually didn't have a clue where this was going or anything when I first started turning the pages but it wasn't in a frustrating way it was in an intriguing way so much so that I devoured the book in one sitting as I just got pulled into it so quickly, time flew away from me.

I loved where the character Amanda came from and how she was introduced as the narrator and how she explained the story without telling us, rather showed us through the gradual building of the story. The scenes were described so well that I felt like I was her, felt like I could smell the mustiness of the castle walls surrounding me and felt the felt the absolute boredom that she did in that small dungeon room.

Hargreave, wow, I mean wow, straight away as she fell from the sky he was a hero disguised in arrogance and extreme masculinity, I loved how he started off so hard faced and a true warrior right until the moment he kissed Amanda and I felt from then onwards he was growing and changing in front of my eyes.

I have to say I loved this book, it was an easy read, full of violence, some darker subject but ultimately about a insta-love that growled into more. I felt myself feeling the emotions of the characters and I will definitely be looking into more of this authors work.

This is my 1st Skeleton Key Book and if the others are half as good as this one I will be reading them all. You can read the synopsis to find out about the book, what I can tell you is that the Author Amanda's thoughts about who and what Hargreave and King Eldric are , are totally the opposite of what is "real" and falling in love with the supposed villi an is the hardest thing she'd ever done after using the Skeleton Key in the 1st place. If you love a strong Heroine, a strong if abused hero, and a hot, sexy happily ever after, this book is for you !! 5☆'s for everything about this book!! WILL AMANDA CHOSE HARGREAVE AND STAY, OR HOME AND LEAVE?

I have not been ready Mandy Rosko’s books very long and this is only the third book I read by her and the first in the Skelton Key series. If her book “Mate of a Dragon Villain” is any indication of how the other books in this series is, then I am going to go back and read them. I loved this book and I think it is AWESOMELY written. The story line is written so that the hero and heroine are the main characters of the story, but he minor characters also have important parts in reaching the climax of the story line. I tip my HAT (if I Wore one) off to Mandy Rosko for a very well written book. My attention was grabbed at the beginning of the book and held till the end of the book. I laughed, cried, screamed, held my breath, and I even got so excited that I had to peek at the end of the book. That tells me that the book is well written. This is a must read book with a very HEA!!! This book is recommended for mature readers 18 years of age or older.

Amanda Roberts is a struggling paranormal romance author who is having trouble with a book that belongs in a series that she has been writing. She has just moved into a new apartment and is frantically searching for her trusty red pen when she finds a Skelton key and she doesn’t know where it came from. It is heave and looks as if it is made of glass, and has a skull on the handle giving the appearance of a true Skelton key. She realizes that her book isn’t going to write itself but she is having trouble saying goodbye, or getting the characters to do what she wants them to do. Even though it was a best-selling series, her character fought her through every twist and plot, not wanting to agree with her. Even though she wanted to kill off the Villain Hargreave, there always seemed to be some redeeming quality about him. But the Skelton key got the best of her, so decided to check all the doors in her apartment. After careful deliberation, and sounds coming from the closet she decided to try the key in the closet door. Once she got the door open and the gravity seemed to change Amanda was pulled in the closet and she was screaming as she kept falling down through the nonetheless. She is suddenly in a world of dragons, battles and gorgeous heroes. She is suddenly saved by a dragon and taken to a spot and told to stay there till he came back for her. He kisses her and the kiss made feel things she hadn’t felt in a long time. After looking into his red eyes she realizes who he is, her villain Hargreave Kendrick. She didn’t know how it was possible. Her only explanation was that she was asleep and dreaming. She also realizes why she hadn’t killed Hargreave off is because she had fallen for the twisted hero. She realizes that going back to the real world isn’t so important after all, especially after Hargreave tells her she is his mate.
Hargreave is on a mission. He is out to revenge the murder of his parents by King Eldric’s father. He is fighting King Eldric in the sky when he sees a woman falling from the sky and she is screaming. Dropping everything else he rushes to save her from falling onto the rocks. He tells her to hide there on the rocks till he comes for her. After looking into her grey eyes he realizes that he had seen her before, and it was in his dreams and he was relieved to find his queen!!! Then she taken from him by King Eldric and his men. He tells her not to worry that he will come get her soon.

Hargreave knows that his enemies are conspiring against him, and it will take all he has to rescue his mate from them. Will Hargreave be able to get Amanda from the clutches of King Eldric? Hargreave is reluctant to believe Amanda when she tells him she isn’t from his world, but from another world. He doesn’t want to believe her, because if it is true then he knows he will lose her. What will Hargreave do? Will Hargreave and Amanda get their happy ending, or will King Eldric win?

No spoilers. ARC free book given in exchange for honest review.

Amanda, a romance author, is whisked away to the land of her books after finding a special skeleton key. But the world she is dropped into is different is so many ways from her books. All she wants is to go home, so why can't she keep her thoughts off the villain of her stories?

Hargreave is battling to save his lands and people as he fights against a tyrannical king. Rescuing a falling woman from midair during battle changes his life. But can the woman he saved think of him as more than a villain.

The beginning made me feel like I was wrapped up in a favorite childhood movie of mine, "The Neverending Story". Because, that movie made me feel like I was living the adventure with the characters so vividly, and this story started off with a bang in the same way! And that was only to page eleven, seriously what a way to grab a reader and shake things up! But the difference between a favorite from my childhood and this story, is its definitely a grown up sexy sword wielding story that will have you rushing to flip to the next page! The characters are fantastic and each one offers a wealth of motion and dynamics to the story, from sexy larger than lifeboat boy Hargreave, to curious and caring Amanda down to each following character. The story itself is a great adventure and the plot turns are unexpected and very well written. From the first word to the last there is nothing I would want changed in this story. I would easily recommend it to anyone who loves dragons, sword carrying warriors, romance, fantasy, or just a fantastically written story!

Well, let me tell you -- I loved this book! Mandy Rosko's Mate Of A Dragon Villain (Skeleton Key) participation in the Skeleton Key series is an absolute bonus to anyone reading this series. Amanda Roberts is a writer that is running behind her deadline but she is struggling to get her book finished. It just doesn't seem to want to come to a acceptable ending. That's because she's torn about making the villain really a villain. She wants to redeem him for another book. Looking for a special pen that she likes to write with, she discovers a mysterious key in her desk drawer. Curious, she decides to find out which door in her place the key belongs to after trying to ignore the key and get back to work. Finding it fit the key to her storage closet, she inserts the key and turns it. Turning the handle of the door was her fatal mistake. She gets sucked into a world that she recognizes as her own book! However, she finds this world is not exactly how she had imagined it to be. And low and behold, who should save her as she falls through the air? Yup, the villain, Prince Hargreave. But is he really a villain in this world? Or is he really a good guy after all? Follow Amanda on this journey of discovery and romance. You have to read the book to experience the twists and turns this story has. It's truly an excellent read. I definitely recommend this book for any Dragon lovers. This is one for your Dragon library!

Mate… is the second book I’ve read for the Skeleton Key series. In each book, there is a Skeleton Key that unlocks a door to [insert idea here]. I like how each author can take this idea and run in several different directions. For Mate…, Mandy Rosko created a story involving action, fantasy, romance, and humor in a short punch. In this story, author Amanda finds the skeleton key, and is transported into the world of a book series that she’s created (or at least she thinks she created it). In it, she finds herself falling for the villain… but even she knows that Hargreave (the villain) is more than what she’s written him as. Hargreave knows instantly that Amanda is his queen, but his sworn enemy (and hero of Amanda’s stories) has taken Amanda. Hargreave fights to rescue his lady, and is also intent on claiming his revenge on the man who slaughtered his family.

Mate is such a charming story. You find yourself instantly rooting for Amanda and Hargreave to get together, and to find a way to stay together given they are from different worlds. It was impressive that Mate felt like such a complete story, given its short length, and the reader gets a good sense of closure given all the crazy events that took place. I have really come to enjoy reading books by Ms. Rosko, and I look forward to reading more in the future.

Mate of a dragon villain by Mandy Rosko forms part of the Skeleton Key Series, A collection of fantasy stories contributed to by a number of different authors.

I have to start by saying the entire skeleton key group of stories and the concept intrigued me and I picked up this instalment to begin my journey and I was not disappointed. I so so so enjoyed this book.

Very interesting concept, where a romance author gets sucked into the fictitious world she created with her words by using a strange looking skeleton key she finds and inserts it in her closet doors lock.
Not only that, but that the characters, settings and relationships turn out to be nothing like she had envisioned and written about in her books. Such a great and unique concept where the hero may actually be the villain and the villain may not be as villainous as she described.

I really enjoyed Amanda and Hargreave as characters. Both very well developed, strong and stubborn. Loved them together too. Hargreaves even proved to have a very sweet and sentimental side which is mot expected of a villain. This story had a bit of action, a bit of suspense, a bit of romance, a bit of humour, a very well rounded story. There were a few twists along the way to keep it interesting and a typical but satisfying happily ever after, Sigh :) Well done Mandy Rosko. I look forward to reading more Skeleton Key stories.

It must be hard to come up with original storylines with all the books that are out there but this one really was!
Amanda ‘falls down’ into the world she created as a writer and meets the hero and the villain, but the world she created and the world she comes to know are not the same. And the differences are important ones. Who is the hero and who is the villain?
Amanda’s character feels real. The dragons’ characters are not as well developed as Amanda’s but that’s ok as you see most of the story from Amanda’s point of view. I also liked it that the descriptions of the different worlds are not too elaborate but functional. You get the feeling for the differences anyway, like the differences between Eldric’s and Hargreave’s castle. I think it may be even more difficult to give you a feel of the world the characters live in just enough text.
I like Amanda’s final decision although I think the fact that she doesn’t go and see her family a bit weird.
The story was funny, romantic, original and it made me want to read it in one go. All in all, I enjoyed the book and look forward to Mandy Rosko’s next one.

amanda's writer with a bit of an OCD streak. when she's frantically looking for something she comes across a skeleton key in her desk. no clue how it got there and which door it's for. her OCD makes her test it out. then she opens THE door and she's falling, falling from the sky, screams escaping because she's sure she isn't going to survive this fall. until she's scooped up by a man with wings, dragon wings, a man who looks all too familiar but couldn't be true.
her rescuer looks just like the villain she wrote in her books, when he leaves her behind, baffled and surprised, she doesn't know what to make of it all. least of all the kiss he bestowed on her when he hid her behind a rock before flying off again.

a start to a deciding battle between good an evil, but amanda wouldn't be a good writer if she didn't think more was going on and she sets out to right the wrongs and keep her villain!

terrific read from start to finish! was hard to put down and was sad when it was over.

I received a ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review. I loved this story from start to finish. It's a story about a author of romance novels, Amanda Roberts. She comes across a glass skeleton key, one she's never seen before. As she tries to find which keyhole it fits, she realizes it's her closet. Once the key is placed, she gets pulled through her closet and finds herself plummeting from the sky. And that's where her great adventure begins. As things start happening all around her, she puts two and two together and knows this is her story she's been working on. All the key characters faces and names come alive. Prince Hargreave Kendrick, Dragon King Aldric Gladstone, Alger, the Kong's second in command and Jane, supposedly the Dragon Queen. Everything seems backwards. The hero is not the person in her stories and like wise with the monsters of the stories. But between all the chaos she unexpectedly finds love. I'm so happy to have found Mandy Rosko and her books. I love the stories that come from a great mind.

Okay. Truth to be told. I am currently reading some mate paranormal story when my email pop up and receive this "contest" game called "I want to be on team Alpha" with this attached book. So, I have to on-hold those current book I'm reading.
************
First, I am confused with the story. Its like —where am I? I have to bypass some first pages because it's kind of long introduction (I think). But when the chapter 2 came it's like —hell men bring it on! The H had very interesting persona and I like him so much with his 'cave man' attitude. The h though, not so much. But I can relate her if I know someone I think is a good person but it's the opposite. (There's a misunderstood with the Anta and Prota)
The story is very fast-forward, I'm kind of whispering myself that it's early for the H and h to know the truth of the past, unbeknownst to me it's coming to end. Over-all it's a good book

Mate Of A Dragon Villain (Skeleton Key) is Mandy Rosko participation in the Skeleton Key Series Books. Every time I read a new book from Mandy I experience lots of emotions and this story is not an exception. This issue was funny, charming, fast paced, adventurous, magical, romantic with a little danger, deception, fantasy and dragons. It's an enchanting story of a modern day romance struggling author named Amanda Roberts & an ancient dragon prince named Hargreave Kendrick who wants to avenge his dead family. Amanda finds a skeleton key that unlocks a door to a fantasy world and then her adventure begins with villains that are not villains, a king that is a bad king, great characters and so many more. What more do you need? NO SPOILERS!!!!I really Highly recommend this book for any Dragon lovers!!

I found this a really enjoyable read. The story moved along a good pace and enough action to make it an interesting and entertaining read. The story that an author fell into the world that she was writing about but that everything was not exactly as she had envisioned it. The main difference being that she was falling for the villain of her story but he did not appear in actuality to be that bad and kept coming to her rescue whereas the hero of her story wanted to imprison her. This quirky twist made the book interesting and different. I liked the interaction between the characters which created enough conflict to keep you interested in what would happen to them and keep you reading the story and guessing what would happen next.
The book is 171 pages so is a short read, though I would have liked it to be a bit longer

This is a absolutely fascinating and entertaining book and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. The story covers Amanda Roberts, a romance writer who finds a skeleton key and uses it causing her to fall into a world she has created in her books. Prince Hargreave Kendrick is the villain of Amanda's books and she is deeply attracted to him. What you will find in this book is conflict, abduction, murder, action, dragon shapeshifters, drama, suspense, intrigue, danger, quirky humor, romance, falling in love, a advisers betrayal, a lover's betrayal, pending peace and erotic scenes. The story-line is very well thought out and written, it does grab a reader's attention from the beginning of the book til the end. The characters are well developed with personality, needs and desires. I would recommend this book to people that like to read a extremely well written dragon story.

Amanda Roberts is an author who writes paranormal /fantasy romance. She is struggling with some of the characters in her series, they will not behave the way she wants them to. While she is thinking heavily on how to make them behave she finds a skeleton key. When she foolishly tries to find where it fits she ends up in her own story.
I love the idea of this book. I can think of many authors who would be just as terrified as our heroine if they fell into their story world. Especially when the characters are not quite how she wrote them. She has landed in a dangerous war torn zone and the villain in her story is the one she falls for. Has this world been created by her or have visions of this world given her the story?
Really great fun. A wonderful twist to a fantasy romance. I loved it.

Absolutely over the top fantastic tale. How many people get to live in a world they created with their writing. Amanda's experience was almost like "Alice through the looking glass", but this was a HEA story with her very own dragon, Hargreave, who she initially pictured as the villain of the piece. There was something that just didn't fit the story. The "Skeleton Key" resolved that problem. You like your books full of suspense, danger, deception, betrayal, laughter, and most important love? Then you will want to read this.

No....I won't go into detail as that would spoil the fun of it. You'll want to follow Amanda, Hargreave, Eldric, Alger, and the rest. I had a hard time putting it down except when my reader battery shut down and I had to recharge to finish. Yes....it's that good. Kudos to Rosko for such a vivid imagination.

Mandy Rosko's 'Mate of a Dragon Villain' has an premise. An author who is writing the story gets 'literally' pulled into her story world, only it isn't something she made up; she was somehow connected to this other world and wrote about it as if it was made up. I liked the story overall, but several parts didn't flow as well as the rest of the story. Some scenes seemed to be put in not as part of the story but just to make the story longer; they seemed out of place and unnecessary. And when it was finally explained why the story world was the way it was, it was rushed and just excepted with no real reason behind it. I generally love reading books by Mandy Rosko, but this one was only a mild like for me.

I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review...... This was a very gripping fantasy that I totally enjoyed. Amanda, who is an author, finds a skeleton key one day and when she uses it she finds herself thrown into the realm of the story that she's writing. In that world she's caught falling from the sky into the arms of Hargreave which is a character that she had written to be the villain. However, she finds that not everything is the way she had written it in her book. This was a cute and riveting read and Amanda was trying to function in a world that wasn't her own. The characters were very well depicted and the author made it easy for me to imagine things as they unfold. I don't want to give anything away but this was a very captivating as well as enchanting book. :)

I totally and completely loved this book! It is my first by the author and I have found a new favorite here.
Amanda is an author of fantasy novels featuring dragons (human form but with wings and can breathe fire) in a semi-medieval land. Imagine the shock that she receives when her key takes her right into the world that she thinks she created. Only things aren't exactly the same: Her evil villain is the hero of her heart and she has to stop the war between him and the actual hero of her novels before they destroy each other.
This one was fun in a sort of metafiction way. The hero/villain, Hargreave, is swoon-worthy as hell! He is getting added to my list of book boyfriends, for sure.

This book was so good, Amanda is a author that is experiencing writers block, she needs to finish a book, but just keeps feeling that something is missing with her characters, especially her villain Hargreave. When a mysterious skeleton key appears and Amanda is thrust into the world she has been writing about and the things she finds out about her "villain" Hargreave and the "hero" Eldric changes everything. Mandy has such an amazing writing style that just pulls you into the world she is writing that I could completely see Hargreave's ruined castle in my mind, I Highly recommend this book!

I haven’t really read books like this and I did not know what to expect and I have to say that it was not disappointing. I thought that this was a very well written book. Amanda is a struggling paranormal romance author who finds a skeleton key that transports her to a different place. She now finds herself living the story that she was working on and gets to meet these characters in person. I loved the characters and I can’t wait to read more in the Skeleton Key series.

Really enjoying the skeleton key series books from all the authors. When Amanda struggles to write her series she finds a skeleton key and is now she is in the world she created. She meets Hargreave and Eldric and Hargreave feels he has found his mate. Eldric takes her and Hargreave will do anything to get her back. Amanda is starting to think the world she created and where she is now is completely different and has misjudged Hargreave. She can't deny anymore her feelings for him. Can they finally have their HEA after Hargreave learns the truth about what happened to him?

I absolutely loved this fun and flirtly piece of romance. It was quirky and easy to read with lots of yummy tummy tingles as well as some hero action. Bad good guys and good bad guys, all the ingredients for a 'not your run of the mill' love tale. Strong female lead and even stronger male lead. Flawed characters who are still very likeable and even endearing. Also big ups to the LGBTQ+ love story, written without shock favtor, but as a love story should be...a couple who can't take their eyes off each other. At least 3 HEAs in this one folks.

Full of all the necessary elements every PNR fan looks for( hot, steamy scenes, gorgeous shifters, danger threatened our hopeful couples etc) the uniqueness of this storyline will keep you totally enraptured! I was completely engrossed from the start. watching as the main character who is an author was thrown into the world she thought she created, only to find out that it actually had a life all of its own. I laughed so hard as some of the scenes made so much sense for someone from the modern world being thrown into a fantasy team would react. the love that blossomed between the author and the supposed villain was so heart warming and sweet. I couldn't put it down even for a moment. I can't wait to read more by Mandy Rosko if this is how she writes all her books.

Good idea for a story but the follow through does fall a bit flat at times. What disappointed me the most was the way the ending came about. All through the book we are told of all these different things that each side does to the other leading to a exciting build up of what you think will be a equally exciting conclusion. But no such luck. The conclusion is just so simple and unfulfilling. Which makes the the book just okay instead of the greatness you normally get from this author.

Amanda is the Mate Of A Dragon Villain. Hargreave is a sexy Dragon Hero and the villain is not who you think! I have recently begun reading this author and very happy with her writing! This is my first Skeleton Key and I love it! Amanda was struggling to finish a paranormal story about a dragon villain. The skeleton key took her directly to the source where the dragon villain claims she is his mate. It turns out that many things are not what they seem. I received an ARC in lieu of an honest review. I honestly love this story and this author!
