“The thread of life is a delicate thing. It is so easily broken…”
Michaela’s gone. Disappeared. And I’m lost without her.
She left to bring a child into the heavens and vanished, along with two Archangels. As I search for answers, I keep uncovering more questions. Why is the human cutting threads? How do we stop her? More importantly, how can I save Michaela?
I’m trapped. The human took me. And Penn has no idea where I am. That woman, she… well, I’m not even sure what she did. All I know is one minute, the Archangels were there, and the next, they weren’t. She’s proving to be a powerful adversary, that’s for sure.
With a child just added to the prison, I need to find my way out of here to end this. More than just their souls depend on me.
The fate of the Earth will not crumble at the hands of a mere human.
I really hate writing these in third person. So hey! I'm Stephanie. I have all kinds of books including post-apocalyptic, dystopian, and paranormal romance. This is my first venture into clean rom-com, and I gotta tell ya, I loved it. I have 12 books planned for the Calendar Girls standalone series, so buckle up, buttercups! It's gonna be a fun ride, and I do hope you'll join me!
What else do you want to know? My husband can usually be found sailing the skies as an airline captain, and my daughter is TEN now (::commence sobbing at the cruel passage of time::)!
I love to connect with readers, so please reach out any time! With nice things of course. Please don't troll me LOL. I have kindof a sharp tongue and little restraint when provoked. It's not cute.
The Human, the last book in the Children of Wisdom series. The book picks up where The Reaper leaves off, as seen through the eyes of Penn and Michaela, after being dragged through hell and back there is still more obstacles to over come for the Reaper and The Fates. There is a new force to be reckoned with The Human, who is full of suprises.
I could not put this book down, I was drawn in from page one and had to continue reading just to see what would happen next, and boy was I in for a ride. I couldn't predict anything that was going to happen and this book took some turns I wasn't expecting. I was reading on the edge of my seat the entire time. I felt like I was right along side Penn and Michaela experiencing things right along with them, feeling their frustration, fear, anger, grief and determimation. Just what can a Human do to scare a Reaper and Fates, and even threaten all of mankind as well as heaven? A lot actually. As i read the final page I found myself letting out my breath and relaxing, I felt as I had been holding it and tensing my body the whole time. Normally I am so sad, and even disappointed with the end of a series, but with the Human I felt fine, happy even.. The Human is the perfect ending to the series. Finally all of these trials and tribulations have come to an end for Penn, Michaela and The Fates. We have finally reached the end of the journey and I feel as relieved as they are, I felt like I was right there with them. I am sad to see them go, but we will always have the memories. Well done Stephanie, well done.
This woman is like no human I’ve ever encountered. (Kindle Location 1417).
Michaela the Reaper has been captured during her latest Reaping of a Surprise. Did the child make it to heaven or has the human intervened in Fate once again? Even the Fates know the true evil behind the snipped threads and innocent souls trapped in hell and their bent on fixing things and rescuing Michaela.
The flow of knowledge and understanding about the plot are finally revealed! The plot is clever and integrated well into all three books. The pacing is slower than your average novel and care is taken at all plot points to really dig into the action. Tension was never very high, but the book will keep you reading. Nothing was very surprising, but the book (and series) were still satisfying, kind of like a well-known fairy tale where you know there’s going to be a happily ever after, but you want to read about the journey anyways.
Every time God was mentioned or seen was interesting as he is portrayed as very human. He wears clothing and goes by the gendered pronoun “he.” His handwriting is not perfect, nor are his words always perfectly understandable. In everything, what is God doing? He’s like the mysterious wizard behind the curtain, not really part of the adventure, but the voice of wisdom all the same.
The only note I had on the book was that Shiloh did not act like a child, but like a 1000 year old soul, which seemed rather odd.
Disclaimer: I received a free copy of this book from the author and this is an honest review.
I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review...
The "Children of Wisdom" series is a wonderful story with a blend of christian and mythological themes. you'll encounter the Fates, reapers, angels, demons, and even God. It's a nonstop thrill ride through the heavens, earth, and hell.
"The Human" is the much anticipated final installment in the "Children of Widsom" series. We pick up where Michaela left off in "The Reaper". Mara has revealed herself and her plans and it will take the combined forces of heaven and hell to stop her. Penn returns to earth with his sister Fates to rescue their beloved Micheala. What they find is a heartbreaking display of the lengths a desperate mother will go to in order to keep her only child clinging to life. She must be stopped in order to restore balance on earth and rescue the ones trapped in the prison of souls. Not everyone gets what they want, but almost everyone gets what they deserve...
I absolutely fell in love with the series and would recommend this book for ages teen through 100.
The Human is an addictive and emotional story that pulled me in and held me captive. Penn, a former Fate, is fighting to save his much loved friends who are locked in a prison in Hell. Michaela, a Reaper, brought Penn back to help solve the mystery, but the evil and treachery they face won't be easily stopped. It's more complex and dangerous than they thought. Will heaven and earth survive? Stephanie Erickson has written a powerful and suspenseful story. I love the Children of Wisdom series. The characters are well written and the story is filled with unexpected twists and turns. I never knew what was going to happen. This series is a keeper.

In this, the final book of the trilogy, narration alternates between Penn and Michaela. This is something that can leave me with a feeling of dread that the author has backed themselves into a corner somewhere and needs the additional narrator(s) to get out of it, and also the issue that I tend not to read chapter titles (no idea why, I just don't), so I can completely lose track of who's doing what and where. Fortunately, the author hadn't gotten stuck, and stayed with a strict alternating chapters pattern, so that solved both concerns.
Penn is worried because Michaela has gone missing. Michaela, meanwhile, has been kidnapped by Mara, the human who has been bumping off the Surprises, and her tame Reaper sidekick. Michaela discovers why Mara has been doing what she's been doing, while Penn, Galenia and Horatia set out to try to find their missing Reaper friend. But with some of the Surprises' souls still trapped in Hell, the clock is ticking.
This final book tied up the loose ends quite neatly (with one or two minor exceptions ) and resolved Penn and Michaela's story. I think my favourite character overall has to be Galenia; the other main characters were good, but she really stood out. Mara was pure nastiness, and showed just how badly grief could break a person if they don't deal with it.
Altogether, the three books in the trilogy had some interesting ideas, especially the blend of mythology and religion. The romance side was fairly minimal, and there was plenty going on most of the time, even though the outcome sometimes didn't advance the plot in any great way. They were a good counterpoint to the complicated fantasy and historical fiction I usually read, and made for an enjoyable change of pace.
Written from two perspectives, The Human ties the first two books together nicely. Stephanie Erickson's writing style continues to invoke the feeling of being unable to put the book down. The pace of the plot emulates the storyline quite well in that it feels like we're getting nowhere at the beginning of the installment, but by the end the emotional weight is lifted off of your heart and everything seems nicely resolved. The story has some of the obvious predictability of an easy-reader, but there are some surprises in there to keep it fresh and interesting, it's definitely not groaningly and laboriously predictable, and I am unbelievably glad that this otherworldly mythological fantasy was not centred around some teen love triangle or unattainable reserved mystery guy who happens to be an angel and oh- fall in love with the main character! I really enjoyed the series, and I think The Human was as good an ending as I think the series deserved. I feel very satisfied. I probably won't read the series again, but I'd definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a light mythology-based novella series either to enjoy for what it is, or as a pallet cleanser.
I really thought that this book was going to be told from Mara's point of view since The Fate was told by Penn and The Reaper by Michaela. Instead, this book was told by Penn and Michaela, and I'm okay with that. Erickson wraps this trilogy up nicely and I have to say that this is my favorite book from the trilogy. This trilogy offers a unique story incorporating a cross of mythology and religion that I believe many would enjoy.
What a conclusion! In this third and final installment to the Children of Wisdom series we begin just about where we left off in The Reaper. I was slightly disappointed with the epilogue, but don't want to give anything away. Wouldn't be at all disappointed if a fourth book for the series came out.
I was given this book as an ARC for my honest opinion. I must say that I enjoyed it immensely. Mara was a crazed Human since her son became sick and was the star of this story. Penn and Michaela, along with the Fates had been to hell and back attempting to rescue those who died unexpectantly. Mara captured Michaela and held her prisoner in the basement of a house.
Penn was exceptional in this story, fighting his way back to earth to rescue Michaela. The Fates left their post to help him. Not sure what was happening in Heaven while they were gone. I read page after page until it was done, and I was shocked by the ending. But throughout this adventure, the heavenly bodies have been dedicated and determined to save their friends. But can they succeed??
Stephanie Erickson did a good job moving from Book 2 to Book 3. It picks up exactly where Michaela was kidnapped. The characters in these books are pretty cool. I have read everything Stephanie has written and have enjoyed them. this one did not disappoint.
Stephanie Erickson has truly outdone herself. I read each of the books from the series and I truly think the books got better each time. The human is the continuation of Penn & his friends who are trying to figure out what is happening in the Heavens and on Earth. I won't spoil this for anyone by giving too much information but I will say it's a book that keeps you on the edge of your seat, you never know what will happen next. I loved the ending and how Stephanie left it open to either leave the story as is or have the option to continue with another story. I highly recommend this book to anyone!! It's easy to get into and you don't want to put it down till you're done.
Stephanie has done it again! I don't want to give away any spoilers, so I will simply say that this was an absolute page turner! I read it all in one sitting because I couldn't put it down! I HAD to know what happened next! Stephanie left nothing hanging - there were twists and turns and unexpected happenings, surprises and a perfect ending to this trilogy! If you haven't read The Fate and The Reaper yet, what are you waiting for? Catch up so you can read this amazing conclusion! Stephanie quickly became one of my favorite authors with her unique style of writing and amazing characters. Make sure you check out all of her books! You'll be glad that you could lose yourself in her creative and thought provoking worlds.
*received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review*
The final installment to The Children of Wisdom wrapped it up quite nicely with the epicness of a climax. One of my favorite things about this author's writing style is taking in her words that give off a slow, nearly steady vibe while still having surprises and short-shot adrenaline given to you. The Human lived up to my expectation as the Fates and Reapers followed up in the lead last time on just who it was creating such chaos on earth. The big reveal was a bit telling and oh so human (pun intended) but at the same time, it felt about right.
There was a lot of adventure, a few sad but appropriate moments, and I love that it ended on a happy note. Well worth the read :)
This is the third in the series of The Children of Wisdom. In this one, we get to see just how evil Mara can be. Or is she evil? That is the question. If you are doing something for the good of one, like her son Shiloh, but at the cost of others? I guess it comes down to just how evil she is doing to the others whether she is right or wrong.
Weber, the spinner that took Penn place is full of surprise in this one, as well as how it all turns out in the great Penn, Kismet, Andrew triangle. And the biggest surprise is that sometimes Demons and Angels do get along.
All in all a great book with an ending that will make all happy.
I thought The Human rounded out the story begun in The Fate and followed in The Reaper quite nicely. It continues the story of Penn and Michaela and winds up all of the loose ends, leaving the reader feeling good that the questions were all answered. I don't do spoilers in my reviews so I won't give away any information about the story itself. It was well-written as usual for Mrs. Erickson's stories and well thought out. I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. One thing I would like to know is what happened to the Archangels that were touched in the end of the Reaper. Maybe I missed it in The Human.
I received a free copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review.
This book was an amazing conclusion to The Children of Wisdom series! It had me on the edge of my seat until the very end. I laughed, cried and rejoiced at the ending! I couldn't wait to see how Penn and Michaela, along with their friends, would find the Human and stop her from destroying anymore lives before it was too late. The story never slows and keeps you wanting to know what happens next so you don't want to put it down. I can only hope that we get more stories involving these now beloved characters. I loved this book and highly recommend the series!
**Received this book for free in exchange for an honest review **
This type of book is not my normal read. I am usually more into vampyres, werewolves, other shifters and such. But I was on pins and needles waiting for this book to come out. I could hardly stand the wait to find out what happened to everyone.. especially what was going to happen to Michaela and Penn. I'm not going to give spoilers but Webber's fate really saddened me and I still felt sympathy for him. You understand him a bit more in this book. There were a few surprising shocks still in store for us as well. I fully recommend this book to everyone!
I received this book as a free download from the author in exchange for an honest review. I truly enjoyed reading The Human by Stephanie Erickson. It had several twists and turns that I wasn't expecting, and I liked that. It kept me quite interested until the very end. Although I would have preferred a slightly different ending for our Heavenly Heros, this book quite neatly wrapped up the story of Penn and Michaela and the other Heavenly Beings that Stephanie began in the first two novels in the series, The Fate and The Reaper. If you are looking for a series that is "out of this world" in more ways than one, I would highly recommend you check out the Children of Widsom triology!
First a word from our sponsors: I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Now, back to our regularly scheduled program. I won't give much away since this is the finale to the trilogy. It kept pace pretty well and did tie up some loose ends--hmm, there may be a pun there! Much was revealed, particularly why the Human (Mara) did what she did. It was out of love, misguided to be sure, but out of love. All in all, a pretty satisfying end to the Children of Wisdom series.
The Human is the third and final installment in The Children of Wisdom series. I absolutely loved this series. It was unlike the author's previous series. Stephanie Erickson is a master storyteller and I was glued to this book until the end. The Human is emotional, scary, suspenseful and engrossing. I also love the name glossary in the back which shows just how much thought the author put into everything including characters' names. Everyone should read this series. I hope the author will continue The Dead Room series which I began and would like to continue reading.
Well, I guess this series just wasn't for me personally. Others seemed to really enjoy it, but I rated all 3 books with a 3 star rating. I'll admit, the writer does have a great writing style, and I was pleased with the unique storyline, but I was never emotionally invested with the characters or the plot. Maybe it was just a bit too YA for me? Anyhow, it was just an ok read for me. I'll still check out more of this writers work in the future, especially if she continues to offer them on kindleunlimited.
I received an ARC for an honest review. Stephanie did it again. She never ceases to surprise her readers. Even though I was saddened for Penn on the loss of two people he really loved, it takes him on a mission to save them from hell and lead them to Heaven. In the end Penn is able to find happiness again. This book makes you realize that even when things are bleak, God is in control and gives us strength we don't realize we have.
Having read The Fate, and The Reaper, I was impelled to learn 'the rest of the story'. Stephanie is becoming a great author; and, though the theme of these particular books is not my usual fare, I found them well written and thought provoking. I read The Human in one sitting caught up in the various plot shifts and unexpected events. I believe most readers will find this series an interesting read. I received this book in exchange for a fair review.
I received this book free for an honest review. The 3rd and finally installment on a fantastic new trilogy. This series was outside of my normal read, but I enjoyed every minute. Loved being able to see the world through our main characters POV. Stephanie delivered an amazing new world that will keep you routing for good, right to the end. Pick up this series for adventure, suspense and to fall in love with some amazing new heroes!
This series got better and better with each book. This one had me on the edge of my sit almost the entire time. I loved how everything came together, it all flowed really well. I wasn't sure how I felt about Penn in the first book but as each one went on I fell more and more in love with him. The ending to this series was beautiful!!!
I received this book in exchange for an honest review. The Human is the final book in a trilogy, and while it wraps up the story nicely, I would have simply preferred that the series be a single book. It's an interesting idea, and I appreciate the authors viewpoint and storytelling. I'd recommend for older teens and young adults.
Such a huge fan of this book. I thought the first one was just so-so, but was quickly drawn into the second and couldn't wait to get my hands on the third. I'm thrilled that I was able to read an advanced copy so I can help get the word out about how awesome Stephanie Erickson's books are. I can't wait to read more from her!
I love that the main characters are so loving and have ...
I found this conclusion of the series refreshing. I love that the main characters are so loving and have such a strong sense of right and wrong in the face of very hard choices. A good conclusion to an action packed series that will leave you feeling happy and peaceful.
Loved the way they ended this series. Answers all the questions posed in the ending of the last book and even leaves the door open for more . . . I received an advanced copy free for an honest review but actually purchased it anyhow to support the author.
