When it’s time to get back in the saddle again, there’s no better way to do it than with a California cowboy, from the New York Times–bestselling author.   A financial whiz with her own advice show, Gia Treadwell is passionate about helping people maximize their potential. But when her boyfriend—make that ex-boyfriend—steals millions with an epic Ponzi scheme, Gia is promptly run out of town. It’s the perfect opportunity to revisit an old dream—one that apparently involves naked cowboys . . .   Flynn Barlow didn’t expect anyone to walk in on him showering at the empty ranch where his family’s cattle have always grazed. Even more surprising, the new ranch owner plans to turn it into a residential training program for women who need a hand up. A smart, gorgeous woman with a worthy cause? In Flynn’s experience, if it seems too good to be true, it usually is.   Sharing the ranch doesn’t mean Flynn and Gia have to get along, but riding together isn’t the problem. It’s the scorching chemistry they can’t ignore. And if they figure out a way to add trust to the mix, they’ll soon be sharing more than just a ranch . . .  Praise for the writing of Stacy Finz   “Finz is a unique new voice. Reviewed for Romancing the Readers Blog: http://www.romancingthereaders.com/20...

I am trying very hard to get the few books in the series that I haven't yet reviewed so when the newest book comes out I will be ready for it.

I really like Flynn. He's a very straight-arrow type of person. Which worked perfectly with his past employment. He's a great hero, the type you wish for. He's the type of hero that has to help someone in need. Even before he's sure they need it.

Gia is a great character that got the short end. You really feel for her and all she's been through. She's being blamed for something that's not her fault at all.

Flynn might not be at first 100% sure if she's being honest or not but he's there to protect her. These two don't rush into a full out relationship right away. They take their time learning about each other. I liked that about them. It's not like they aren't hot for each other, just that they are cautious.

This is the perfect addition to the series and I'm happy that I took the time to read it.

This series is like comfort food: always a sure bet. I look forward to every new installment with pleasure and I haven't been disappointed so far. In fact, RIDING HIGH is my favorite of the series to date. It's well-written, with very likable characters and a very engaging story. The enticing setting, the close-knit and friendly community, and the sweet romance are expected, but Flynn and Gia's explosive attraction, the heightened drama and the action/suspense in this book gave it a huge boost.

Flynn and Gia were really adorable characters. Flynn is very pragmatic and likes to color within the lines, but he's also very quick to step up for someone in need. He's also very dreamy because he's exactly the kind of man that any woman would want in her life. He's confident, successful and very attractive. His appeal lies in his well-rounded, impressive background and his ability to move seamlessly between the worlds he inhabits as a former federal agent, a former prosecutor, a defense attorney and a rancher. His cookie cutter family also adds to his draw.

Gia is independent and optimistic, never one to let a bad situation keep her down. She's something of a hero herself, putting her resources towards helping the less than fortunate. Her attraction to Flynn may have been unexpected but it's certainly not unwelcome, in spite of the complications and baggage that they come with.

Gia may have been very successful but her roots are those anyone can relate to and her relationship woes are those many women have faced, which makes it very easy to connect with her and like her.

As usual, Ms. Finz crafts a story that makes you want to pack up and move to this fictional town. I know I do.

One of the many things I enjoy about Ms. Finz's writing is that the characters are loosely connected so that each book can be read as a stand-alone and out of order, but why do that when there is so much fun to be had from reading the entire series?

Stacy Finz is one of favorite authors that I discovered in the past couple years. Her Nugget series takes place in Nugget, California in the Sierra Nevada. I love visiting the town of Nugget through the pages of her books and catching up with the residents of Nugget, although I have to admit that this particular book I was not quite as entranced by. I just did not enjoy the chemistry between Gia Treadwell and Flynn Barlow and some of the storyline seemed very predictable, I am excited to see that there will be another book in this series coming in April, though, before her new series starts in July in the nearby town of Glory Junction. Hopefully, she will have the occasional appearance or mention of one of the Nugget residents. Although I give this 3 stars, I feel it deserves more of a 2.75 or 2.5 stars.

Even though this is the eighth book in the Nugget series, it can be read as a stand alone, the author has cleverly weaved all the characters from the earlier books into the current story. This is a story that is filled with equal parts charm and suspense, keeping you waiting for the other shoe to drop...knowing it's going to, just not when.

Nugget, California is set in the Sierra Nevada mountains, which is very familiar to me because I live just East of Sacramento in the Sierra foothills. The towns of Sacramento, Roseville, and Folsom mentioned, are all around me which makes reading about them in the story a joy.

The relationship between Flynn and Gia grows slowly over time rather than exploding right out the gate...the emphasis is put more on the characters and their story then on the romance. The author has brought all the different personalities to the forefront thereby building a solid foundation for the intricacies of the true story of Gia and her struggles to prove her innocence, and Flynn and his two totally different personas. It was totally hot when Flynn went into Lawyer mode to prove Gia's innocence and to stand by her.

Again, even though I didn't read the first books in the series, the way this story is written, I feel as if I'm all caught up on the backstories and now look for to Annie's story.

This ARC book was a complimentary copy provided by the Publisher and Netgally, I am voluntarily providing my honest review.

I knew this book was going to be hilarious and a little ridiculous after reading the synopsis. Gia finding Flynn showering in her bathroom was such a fun way to start the book.

Gia is a disgraced financial guru who makes her way to Nugget after realising her ex-boyfriend was involved in a Ponzi scheme. She wants to make a difference and is also hiding out from all the backlash she's received from the media as well as the FBI agents who continue to turn her life upside down. Flynn is a rancher and lawyer who had a deal with the previous owner of the ranch (read Getting Lucky to find out more) to use the land for his cattle to graze.

Their chemistry is palpable. It is electric and so entertaining to read what's happening with both of them. They both care so much for each other and as their relationship becomes more and more professionally entangled, their attraction increases. Gia is so independent so it's great to see her softening a little bit but not giving up who she is for Flynn. Flynn is also such a fun, laid-back guy who doesn't seem to get in Gia's space about things.

I'm going to be honest and say I didn't think that I would enjoy this book because I'm not a fan of plots like this with the Ponzi scheme and the blame being placed on the woman, but it was wonderfully written and the book was fast paced enough. I will say I wasn't pleased with Rhys and Clay's reaction about Gia's plans for her ranch especially because in their books they talk about how close minded the town can be and come across as far more progressive. Then they go around in this book and do be as close minded as other residents.

As with all Nugget books, there's always a side story and this one was exciting yet heartbreaking as we get an insight into Clay and Emily's life. I won't give much more away, but I'm hoping that we can see a little more of this in the upcoming books.

I enjoyed Nugget #8 but I couldn't get attached to the two main characters, Gia and Flynn like I had in earlier volumes. I'm not sure why that was!? However, I was anxious to find out what happens to the two of them regardless.

I did find some problems with the text while reading the book:
1. Chapter 7: Gia said that she had walked to the McCreedy's home and she rode home with Flynn, but earlier in said chapter it was stated that "They heard a car pull up..." signaling Gia's arrival. They wouldn't have heard a car pull up if she had walked!?!
2. Chapter 7: After the paprazzi left, Rhys told Gia "For now on close the security gates." It should have said "From now on close the secuity gates."
3. "Antipa-parazzi" ????
4. Chapter 8: Flynn was thinking about how Gia had looked as she left for the Farmers' Market in her "Ridiculous Floppy Hat" among the other discriptive words. At the market as Gia sampled the honey, "She propped her sunglasses on her head." No hat?!?

Other than those issues, I enjoyed the book very much and plan to read more books by Stacy Finz!

I liked the plot/set-up of this story; Gia who appeared in the last book has finally moved into her ranch in Nugget. After being cleared for any wrong doing in her ex-boyfriend's Ponzi scheme she feels she is finally home free and then she finds a strange man in her home who she holds at gunpoint. Flynn has been using the empty house as a place to stay and shower when he's there taking care of the family's cattle when he's in Nugget so he is surprised by the beautiful woman who calls the cops on him. This was a busy book with a lot going on and while I did love this couple together at times I felt their story got a bit lost in everything that was going on in Gia's life along with some side stories going on with other people. Don't get me wrong, I thoroughly enjoyed it but I just felt that Gia and Flynn never had that time to be happy and in love because of everything else.

This story mesmerized my mind, the characters are engaging and completely charming, the community like an extended family, and the suspense in a white collar crime so different than the physical action stories I often read, the whole process was engrossing. The story in itself went from flirty to intense, from sexy to scary, and from laughter to heartbreaking tears. I lived with the tale, the twists in the plot enticed me, I was there, right with them every moment of the story, and I adored it.
The community spirit was heartening, they might be nosy and ask frank questions themselves, but when it comes to outsiders, they close the ranks and protect their own.
I loved how Gia had the desire to help other women to thrive, not just survive. Her idea for the charity was absolutely amazing and the way the other women in the community took the idea and made it even larger than that just warmed my heart.
Gia and Flynn both were in a very difficult place with no wiggle room. One wrong step with the investigators for the crime and Gia will pay the price, and ultimately both of them.
I loved the connection between Gia and Flynn. The bold honesty they had with each other with the feelings and desires they struggled with was refreshing. The passion between them is a palpable thing, their feelings for each other evident in their eyes. But for good reasons, they struggled with some trust issues. I am glad that the drama around the trust wasn't drawn longer, it was just the perfect level of angst to me, as there are moments with the investigation that are filled with high anxiety, with some raw feelings and frightening minutes.
I love when the stories have strong, capable women like all the ladies in Nugget, yet they are not overpowering but true equals of their mates. Both Gia and Flynn had great personalities, they are not perfect, they have their issues, their habits, their struggles, but their attitude, their honesty, eagerness, caring, and passion for life made them characters that come close to your heart and makes an impact. And even though this is part of a series, the story is a standalone novel, I had no trouble getting into the flow of things, even though I haven't read all the previous books.
But I fell in love with this story, with the cast and with their captivating destiny. Definitely a series to invest in!

Riding High by Stacy Finz is the eighth book in the Nugget Romance series. It can be read as a stand alone book, but throughout, there are references to earlier books in the series, so I think it would be helpful to have read them. This book is the story of Gia Treadwell. A former financial adviser, author and television personally, she has lost all of that because her boyfriend was running a Ponzi scheme and made off with millions of dollars. Gia was not involved and in fact lost a lot of her money in the scheme, but because she was living with the culprit, she is under investigation by the FBI, even though a grand jury did not find evidence to go to trial. She has come to Nugget to hide out from the publicity on a ranch she bought right before her troubles began. She has a plan for the ranch, but her neighbors might not approve and may fight against her plans.

Flynn Barlow is a rancher who leased the grazing land of the ranch Gia bought. Although he leased the land before she purchased the ranch, one of the conditions of the sale was that the lease was honored. He is super hot, and even though Gia has sworn off men, she can't help but be attracted to him. Flynn is captivated by Gia as well, but there are many complications that should keep them from becoming involved. But how long can they keep their distance from each other, especially since Flynn is at the ranch several times a week?

I really enjoyed this book. There was a homey, small town feel to the setting that was very authentic. It was also nice to read a book where the characters didn't jump into bed right away, in spite of their attraction to each other. Instead they built a relationship, from animosity to a working relationship, to a friendship, and then to love. I really felt like these were real people, instead of characters in a book. The character development was excellent. I loved the small town and wide open spaces that the setting portrayed, and could almost see the Sierra Nevada Mountains. There were surprises that I didn't see coming, and a realistic manhunt that is resolved in this book. No cliffhangers, which was great!
There was really nothing that I didn't like about the book. I would definitely read more in this series, and any other works by this author.

I read an ARC of this book, and voluntarily submitted this honest review.

This is the 8th book in Stacy Finz's Nugget series and I've read them all. There are good books in this series and a few outstanding books and IMHO this is one of the outstanding ones. This book can be read as a stand alone but to be honest by the time you get to the 6th book in this series of you haven't read the first 5 you won't get the full enjoyment out of them that you will knowing all the secondary characters. There's humor as when the book opens with Gia Treadwell finding Flynn Barlow in her shower. There's plenty of drama between the Feds putting the squeeze on Gia to try and get her to give up her ex lover who is a white color criminal of Bernie Madoff proportion and who also absconded with a goodly chunk of her own money while destroying her credibility as a financial guru who had her own television show, newspaper column, books and speaking engagements and Gia trying to convince Rhys and her neighbors like Clay McCreedy that starting a program to help down on their luck women learn how to support themselves and find some financial stability won't cause problems for them or the town of Nugget. Gia doesn't trust her own ability to judge a man's character after her previous relationship. As much as she doesn't want to like Flynn the rancher/lawyer ex FBI agent ex U.S. attorney she can't ignore her attraction to him. Flynn a confirmed bachelor likewise can't seem to ignore the infuriating woman who seems to haunt his dreams and every waking thought. There's also a really good secondary story involving Emily and Clay when Emily discovers she is pregnant and how the pregnancy brings out feeling of fear because of her previous miscarriages and guilt because of her missing daughter Hope. I thought her conflicted feelings rang true as did conflict with Clay who can't understand why the woman he loves isn't over the moon with excitement over the news that she is carrying his child. It's actually the way this story is portrayed that I feel really raises the level of this book from a solid 4 stars to above 5 stars. We also get introduced to Annie Sparkles. And even though I had to laugh at her name and kept waiting for Strawberry Shortcake to show up at the Rosser Ranch along with her she's an interesting character who is the heroine of the next book in the series.

ARC REVIEW

Book 8 already! Wow! Riding High bring together Gia Treadwell who we meet in the last book as a financial genius who was swept off her feet by a scheming con-man who stole a butt load of money and ruined her professional reputation. And although the grand jury acquitted her the FBI still has her in sights to find her ex-boyfriend swindler who has disappeared with the millions he took. Flynn is a former FBI turned private practice lawyer/rancher and his family has been leasing the land she bought for graze land. Flynn, although he knows innocent until proven guilty, can't help but be sceptic about Gia's intentions. Flynn is soon confused by what he's read about her and how she acts, then again she pulled a rifle on him the first time they meet. This book also reinforced why I dislike the character Clay so much. There is a side story (which is typical for this series) of Clay and Emily, no spoilers, but he continues to be a complete ass.

Gia needed to get away from everything in her old life and to finally do something she really believes in, that is why she liquidated all her assets to have enough money to buy the ranch. Gia is now earning her money in day trading, going back to where she started. Unfortunately the FBI is still trying to pin her down so she can give them information on her ex to the point of harassment. She hires Flynn to help keep the wolves at bay, it isn't until then that he starts realize there is so much more to Gia then he ever thought, so much more than she ever let anyone see when she was a celebrity. While Gia tries to get her new homestead up and running and earning money and starting on her special project she is falling in love with Flynn, even with as gun shy as she is about trusting her heart again Flynn is a good guy and she can't help but fall in love. Flynn is taken with her beauty, impressed by her intelligence and despite trying to remain impartial he can't help but stand up for her and stand by her and fall in love with her.

Overall, another great Nugget Romance! P.s. I really do dislike Clay.

I loved, loved, loved this book! This is the first that I have read of this author and the first book that I have read in this series. I was not lost nor felt like I was missing anything by not reading the rest of the series first. I will be going back and reading the rest of this series.

The story of a strong, smart, beautiful woman who was taken advantage of and completely fooled by a man she trusted, who is trying to start over in a new town. The kind of man that every woman wants her daughter to fall in love with....honorable, dependable, hard working and not to mention just as sexy in a suit as he is in jeans & cowboy boots.

Despite the fact that Gia lost half a million in her ex's Ponzi scheme, there are some people that believe she is guilty and the FBI hounds her thinking she will eventually lead them to that dirty snake Evan. Flynn, a former FBI agent and prosecutor, now a private law attorney and cowboy crosses path with Gia when she buys the ranch that he is leasing land from. Even though the chemistry is instant, Flynn is not 100% sure of Gia's innocence. When push comes to shove, Flynn realizes that he loves Gia when he is just about to lose her? Can Flynn save Gia and prove her innocence so the couple can find their happily ever after?

At some point in our lives we've all met that man who on the surface seems wonderful and too good to be true, only to find out that he's not what he seems on the surface. That happened to Gia who was living the good life with her own TV show about investing, had written books for the novice investor and loved New York, that is until she met Evan. It was downhill from there. Luckily after being sucked into his web of cheating, lying and stealing from investors, Gia escaped to the town of Nugget. She bought a ranch, made plans for the future and of course met the man who had brawn, brains and looks all wrapped up in a tidy package. Of course there are ups and downs but the good people of Nugget were there as Gia planned her future and worked her way past the scandal of her past that threatened her new life. As always Ms. Finz weaves a story that makes the reader want to find that fictional town and move in. Well worth the read and looking forward to the next book about this town and inhabitants.

I adore this series and this book is a great addition! Gia Treadwell is relatively new to Nugget. She's a financial guru who up until recently had her own show putting Fin financial advice out there for everyone. Then her ex is caught in a major Ponzi scheme and her world imploded. She came to Nugget to get away from the scandal and lay low for a bit but the longer she was here to more she enjoyed the quiet life. Finding a strange man in her shower surprised her almost as much as it surprised Flynn Barlow. Flynn had no idea the new tenant for the house had already taken possession, so getting the screaming woman to finally calm down enough for him to explain who he is was a bit difficult. It was definitely a strange way to meet but the spark between them was clear and bright. These two couldn't be more different though. That is until they really get to know each other and discover there is so much more to the other than you would originally think.

Don't miss this one! I highly recommend it.

From the first book set in Nugget, I was hooked. With this series, the books just keep getting better and better.

You can read the blurb on the book to see what it's about. What I want to tell you is why it's a great book. The author has an uncanny ability to pull you into the story and let you feel the emotions of the characters.

Flynn is the reluctant hero, and Gia is the independent heroine that wants to solve her problems on her own. You sympathize with their feelings and rejoice in their successes.

Another plus for me with this series, is the way the author continues to weave the stories of previous characters without it sounding redundant. Every book can stand alone with enough of the gist of previous stories without giving too much away, so those stories will be great reads too in case you read them out of order.

I am now eagerly awaiting the next book in the series.

Disgraced New York finance celebrity Gia Treadwell buys a ranch in Nugget to hide from her past and to implement her dream of helping down-on-their-luck women. But some of her neighbors are suspicious because her former boyfriend is wanted by the Feds for an illegal Ponzi scheme that bilked millions from investors. Plus, he’s disappeared.

Despite an immediate and growing attraction, lawyer turned rancher Flynn Barlow is wary of Gia. But when the Feds, then paparazzi show up to harass her, he agrees to be her lawyer even though his personal ethics will put Gia off limits, something he really doesn’t want to do.

This is a well-crafted story of small-town closeness, how a woman stands up for herself in the face of adversity, and how a man will pull out all the stops for the woman he loves. And it has all the Nugget characters you know and love in a fast-paced story that will keep you reading.

Visiting Nugget again was a real treat. This small town in the Sierras is home to some interesting characters brought to life by an author who knows people and makes tabloid storylines seem normal. I really enjoyed Flynn and Gia’s story. Flynn is an ex-FBI agent, currently a lawyer and rancher. Gia was a rich, well-known TV personality until she was brought down by her ex-boyfriend’s Ponzi scheme. Now, Gia owns a ranch/farm and Flynn has grazing rights on the property.

FBI agents and tabloid reporters keep Gia on her toes, and Flynn would like to keep her … in bed, but now he’s her lawyer and that would cross a line he doesn’t want to cross. Yet nothing’s ever that straightforward or easy.

Cattle, horses, neighbors, and jail all figure into the storyline. Author Stacy Finz has another Nugget winner here! Don’t wait – get it now!

Hard to believe but Riding High by Stacy Finz is the eighth book in the Nugget Romance series. It is a wonderful addition to a series that is staying strong and even getting better. That is because of this book which is my new favorite of mine in the series. Flynn is the near perfect hero who has worn several hats before he donned a rancher’s hat. Gia is also a resilient likable female lead. I liked her positive attitude despite her heart breaks and financial woes from the past.

Stacy Finz brought all her strengths to writing this story; genuine characters who have true strength, plot that flows from one scene to the next and a town setting that you can envision so well, that you would swear it was a real place. Amazing story with a heartwarming romance.

An ARC of the book was given to me by the publisher through Net Galley.

Finz has penned another winner in the Nugget contemporary romance series. This may just be my favorite of them all.

The small northern California town of Nugget is a picturesque backdrop for this series that lends itself to finding love even when you aren't looking for it. The town is as much a character as the people of Nugget. And there are lots of characters who resurface in the the series.

Gia Treadwell is one of my favorite characters and Flynn rounds her out so well. The sparks that fly between them from the moment Gia finds him in her shower, only burn brighter a the story progresses.

With well developed characters, well written plot and plenty of twists and steamy scenes, I highly recommend this book to fans of the genre.

Gia and Flynn's story is exciting and nail-biting. The whole time you're waiting for the other shoe to drop and, when it does, you'll be on the she of your seat, waiting for the conclusion.
Gia is convinced that she never wants another relationship, after the last disaster. But there's something about Flynn that she just can't resist. It's fun to watch the two of them dance around each other. Sooner or later, you know one of them will make a move. But what move?
5 stars.
