Harry and Anastasia are back, this time married and attempting to fit into society. When another transgenic emerges—a mole-man named Leonardo—he tells them an old friend, Istvan, a pig-man, long thought dead, is still alive.
Doing the right thing, Harry and Anastasia go to investigate and find out other transgenics are alive, well, and led by yet another madman, bent on destruction. The trail begins in Italy, and continues on to France, Spain, and finally back to the United States.
As if that wasn’t enough, Anastasia is pregnant and Harry has to worry about her, the baby, and the plans of the madman who hates all transgenics and wants to see them eliminated. Anastasia’s life is threatened as is the life of her baby, and with the outcome far from certain, the quest continues.
J.S. Frankel was born in Toronto, Canada, many moons ago and managed to scrape through high school and university, earning a BA in English Literature and leaving no book unopened during his time at the University of Toronto. Shortly after graduation, he moved to Japan in order to teach English to the hapless residents of whichever city he happened to be living at the time.
In 1997, he married the charming Akiko Koike and their union produced two rather interesting children. Frankel and his family make their home in Osaka where he teaches during the day and attempts to write YA fiction at night.

Summary: As science evolves, new treatments and procedures push the boundaries making people question the morality of where we as a culture are heading. This story explores one such issue. While continuing his father's work, Harry was propelled into a struggle to prevent unscrupulous individuals from perverting his work into something hideous that could endanger all of humanity. Even with all of the problems, Harry's fight brought him and his wife Anastasia together and giving him the choice to die or he ultimately transformed himself into a member of transgenic like her. Their life together was quiet for a short time until an enemy came forth who was determined to change the world into a warped version of what he wanted with himself as a god. Harry, Anastasia, the FBI and their friends are forced into the life and death struggle once again and the stakes are higher; considering Anastasia is pregnant and no one has a clue how their altered genes would effect her and the baby. This book rocked from the very beginning bringing new and old characters together again in this fast paced and riveting story and it isn't over yet!
I agreed to review the fourth book in J. S. Frankel's YA Catnip series because I was interested in the concept of inter-species hybrids. I had read many novels dealing with the magical shapeshifters of fantasy, but this author's protagonists were genetically altered in secret laboratories so that they possessed both human and feline traits. Humans with animal genes are known as transgenics in the Catnip series. How would contemporary governments and ordinary citizens react to them? What issues would J. S. Frankel explore? With these questions in mind, I began reading my free copy from the author with anticipation.
I hadn't read the previous three novels in the Catnip series. So this was my introduction to the teen protagonists, Harry and Anastasia. Readers who love action will be very pleased by Catnip #4. There is a prominent thriller component since the protagonists work with the FBI. Harry and Anastasia get to display their strength, speed and especially their superior claws on numerous occasions. The story is largely told from Harry's viewpoint. Their former and current FBI handlers are also well-portrayed. Yet I was disappointed that I learned so little about Anastasia. By the end of the book, I had a general idea of her history with very little in the way of specifics. I also know that she had a hair trigger temper and makes a terrific ally in a fight, but I don't feel that I really understand her as I could understand and relate to Harry.
Woot! My favorite couple is back! I missed these guys and as soon as I got the book I devoured it in a day. Writing a review for this one is really hard though. I can’t say enough good things about it. I guess because I’ve been with these characters from the start it feels a bit overwhelming, even after the second read. Harry is the central character as always. Even married and expecting a new addition to the family, he still feels like a teenager to me, while Anastasia always seems like the mature, level-headed woman, albeit with a wild, passionate side. We always see her from Harry’s perspective. But now that they’re married I would have liked if her character would’ve been explored more. It would have been an exciting surprise if this particular book was written from her POV. Maybe we could have a spin-off? *winks* Nevertheless, the action was as exciting as always, filled with twists and turns that only strengthened my connection with the main leads. I rooted for them, holding my breath and hated having to put down the book for even half an hour. That’s the way it’s done right, people! I wish J.S. Frankel could teach a writing workshop one day.
A gifted copy was given in exchange for an honest review. Another great book by J. S. Frankel. Anastasia and Harry go on fighting mad scientists. This time, he is even madder than the previous ones. He doesn’t mind killing anyone who dares to cross his path. The book is not so bloody as the others. This time is more about feelings: friendship, loyalty, and love. The link between Anastasia and Harry is stronger than ever and the friendship and loyalty between Harry, Farrell and Istvan is also stronger. Two new characters appear; Leo, a mole transgenic and Overton, an FBI agent. This is the most emotional book of the series and I really loved it. I can’t wait to read the last installment.
Yes, and again, i hardly could put the book down. Love that type of story. I started to read with the first story, Catnip, and could hardly stop reading. Now with that one, the books are so well written. But not only that, the story is fantastic. The characters are fantastic. Harry and Anastasia. I grow to love them. Only the media don't like them as they are and like to kill them for what they are. Press conference went horribly wrong, not what they hoped it would be, to accept them as they are, in cat form. But there are always mad scientists around, they like to play God and do more, and more, to enhance themselves. But Harry, even he is not the strongest of the genetic enhanced ones, defeated him again. But as he made himself more God-like, he survived once again. Can Harry and Anastasia, who is pregnant with their child, defeat him once more? We will see in the next book i guess. Can't wait to read it. so, i stop here and start reading it. book 5 in the series.
Since I wrote this novel, all I will say is that I hope those who've been reading the YA Catnip series so far will want to read this one as well. It's a two-part arc, and finishes things off in style, although there's an awful lot of misunderstanding and mayhem along the way!
Harry and Anastasia, America's happiest transgenic cat-couple, continue their fight for acceptance in modern society. Along the way, Anastasia becomes pregnant, they battle human as well as inhuman foes, and have to contend with the minutia of everyday life. I hope readers will give it a try.
