It's Mating Season on the Bayou and for the Davennes trouble comes hand-in-hand with true mates and HEAs.
I love Kenzie Cox's books, she's one of my favourite authors and I absolutely loved these short, action packed, hot and steamy paranormal romances about the Davennes, cousins of the Riveaux brothers. All are well written in the first person with the point of view alternating between the two main characters. This series is also part of the multi-author Mating Season Collection of stand alone paranormal romances which all come with their own happily ever afters and no cliff-hangers.
1 - Craved
After five years apart, the craving for each other has never died. Now Devon and Scarlett get their HEA.
'Craved' is the fourth book in the terrific Wolves of the Rising Sun series of stand alone paranormal romances. This action packed story had me hooked from beginning to end, I couldn't put it down and I absolutely loved it.
Devon Michelson, code name 'Smoke' is a computer hacker who lives for the rush of the challenge and is working off his parole as a consultant for the FBI, as well as providing security and surveillance for the his sister Arianna's pack, the Riveauxs, after they found illegal drugs being grown on their land in the Bayou. Sitting in their bar, Wolves of the Rising Sun, he is rendered almost speechless when the woman in the corner booth turns out to be the only woman he ever loved.
Totally unable to live a life on the wrong side of the law, Scarlett Jacobs had left Devon five years ago without a word and vanished. He'd tried to find her, but she'd covered her tracks and now she was back in the Bayou looking for help. She's there to meet Silas, an ex-marine who'd worked with her murdered mate. The last person she expected to see was the man she'd always loved, and now, two years after losing Bax, an FBI agent killed in the line of duty, she had to face her past demons whilst running for her life.
I'm not going to give any spoilers here, but this is a fantastic story of a love that never died and burns anew while they try to work out who is trying to kill Scarlett and why. With some terrific characters, unexpected good guys, bullets flying and corrupt FBI agents this action packed story has humour, love, steam and the happily ever after we all expect. There are no cliff-hangers here. I absolutely loved this book.
2 - Silas
Six years ago a promise was made which has caused misery for Silas and Hannah, but fate steps in and changes everything.
'Silas' is the fifth book in this absolutely terrific series and I really couldn't put it down. Well written in the first person, but with alternating points of view, this action packed story is a bit convoluted when it comes to relationships, both familial and personal, so a little background untangling will be needed, but please note that Silas and Hannah are not, and never have been, related in any way, shape or form.
Ex-Marine and co-owner of the Bayou Hidden Resort, werewolf Silas Davenne has spent the last six years making both himself and his mate, Hannah Valentine, as miserable and angry as they could be, all because he promised Hannah's dying mother, Lydia, that he would protect Hannah from the shifter life, even if it meant never being together. And Silas never broke a promise. Nobody ever even bothered to ask Hannah what she wanted, even though she made it perfectly obvious that she wanted Silas.
Lydia had spent several years living with Silas's father, although they never mated or married, and had his half brother, Wren. Silas and Wren's father was an abusive drunk who enjoyed other women and didn't want to commit to one woman for the rest of his life. Sick of it, Silas and Darien's mother had left when he was very young, Lydia was the closest thing to a mother figure he'd ever had, he loved her and even when she, too, left his father, she kept in touch with Silas, as well as her son Wren, and made sure he was alright. When Lydia asked him to make the promise, he had never met Hannah, but, her father having abandoned Lydia and her when she was barely a toddler, her half brother, Wren, was her only family and, aged just 18, she turned up at the resort shortly after Lydia's death. Silas knew immediately that she was his true mate, but he'd already made the promise.
After six years of getting nothing but frustrated, Hannah decided that if Silas wasn't going to make her his mate, it was time to move on, forever. After yet another argument, she goes for a night out with her friend Thea and then the trouble really starts....
I absolutely loved this book and really don't want to give any more spoilers, but this story has some wonderfully complex characters and relationships, some human trafficking bad guys to fight, lots of action, and eventually, some steam with a happily ever after for Silas and Hannah. There is one character, Shade, making his second appearance in this series and even though he's portrayed as a good guy, I have grave suspicions that he may be the worst bad guy of all. I definitely don't trust him one bit.
3 - Darien
Comfort and friendship turn to love, claiming and a HEA for true mates Darien and Thea in this terrific story.
I love The Wolves of the Rising Sun and 'Darien' is the sixth book in the series. Well written in the first person, but with alternating points of view, and I absolutely loved it. Although written as a stand alone complete with it's own happily ever after, and there's enough background in the story that it can easily be read as one, the characters and situation carry on from the previous book and I think you would get more out of the story if you read 'Silas' first.
Having been kidnapped by her so-called friend Will, a human trafficker, a few weeks ago and rescued by her friend Hannah and her mate Silas along with a few others, Thea is terrified to go home and is staying in Hannah's old cabin at the Bayou Hidden Resort owned by Silas Davenne and his brothers Darien and Wren. Plagued by nightmares and unable to sleep, she's on the steps of the cabin when Darien finds her in the early hours of the morning and decides she's in no fit state to be on her own, so he takes her to his cabin. She's been there ever since and they've settled into a comfortable routine as just friends. But Darien and his wolf want more from Thea, they want to claim her as their mate, they're just waiting until she gets over the trauma of her kidnapping first. Unfortunately, when Hannah tells her Bella, Thea's friend and neighbour, called to say Will was hanging around her apartment, it becomes obvious that he's not only not behind bars where he's supposed to be, but trying to recapture her. Darien really isn't prepared to let that happen, Thea is his mate, so the Davenne brothers and their cousin Smoke plan to strike first.....
This fantastic addition to the series has some really great characters, although the jury's still out on FBI agent Fischer, but for me, he's had bad guy written all over him from his very first appearance in the series. It has humour, some action, a steamy bit or two and the happily ever after we all expect. I couldn't wait for the next one which I hoped would be Wren, who describes himself as the last one standing, falling head over heels.
4 - Wren
An absolutely fantastic finale to the series with Wren and Bella fighting the bad guys and winning their HEA. I loved it.
I absolutely love the action packed Wolves of the Rising Sun series by Kenzie Cox and am somewhat sad that 'Wren', the seventh book in the series, is also the last one. Well written in the first person with the POV changing between the two main characters. I was totally hooked from the first page, really couldn't put it down, devoured it in one sitting and absolutely loved it.
Wolf shifter and part-owner of the Bayou Hidden Resort, Wren Davenne spent two separate nights with Bella a couple of weeks ago and now he can't stop thinking about her. His wolf knows she's his mate, but then he discovered that she's an FBI agent working on the human trafficking case. That came as an unpleasant surprise and he is not a happy wolf.
Bella Stone has an ugly past which is about to catch up with her and although she really wants to belong to someone who'll love her forever, be part of a family who'll care, and she knows that the 'someone' is Wren, she's desperately trying not to get involved with him while she's investigating the human trafficking ring that kidnapped his sister-in-law and trying to catch Fischer, another FBI agent she believes has gone rogue and is a big part of the ring. But fate has other ideas and they're thrown together by a promising lead, courtesy of Ryker, the go-to guy for anything and everything, leader of the Dragons of Decatur, and the unofficial Robin Hood of New Orleans.
This fantastic finale to the series has some really great characters, both old and new, as well as unexpected twists and turns with a revelation or two. And Bella's ugly past....no contest, she absolutely did the right thing. It has humour, action, steamy bits and the happily ever after we all expect with Wren, who described himself as the last one standing unmated, falling head over heels and getting a happily ever after with his feisty true mate, Bella. Although this book is written as a stand alone and can easily be read as one, the story thread carries over from the two previous books and I think you'd get more out of this one if you read those first. I loved Ryker and now I'm hoping there'll be a series about the Dragons of Decatur. Please....
I love this series which is as much action thriller as it is paranormal romance with it's terrific characters and location, hot and steamy true mate encounters and humour, not to mention the wonderful happily ever afters.
A short, fun romp with light paranormal vibes. Each book was quick and entertaining, with just enough steam and charm to keep things moving. The Davenne brothers were playful, protective, and easy to root for, and while the plots were straightforward, they delivered exactly what was promised – light shifter romance without drama or heaviness. A great palate cleanser between darker or more intense reads.
⭐️ – Not for me ⭐️⭐️ – Disappointing ⭐️⭐️⭐️ – Good / Solid ⭐️⭐️⭐️½ – Better Than Good ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ – Amazing ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ – Flawless / Unforgettable
The Davennes Pack is every bit as appealing, sexy, supportive and protective as their cousins the Riveaux's. Devon(Smoke) & Scarlett, Silas & Hannah, Wren & Bella & Darien & Thea will keep you on your toes and on the edge of your seat. Check them out today!
Craved: Scarlett, fled from her old life and the shaky future laid out for her. She is going to the one person her mate told her met with a sticky situation and to save her life she was mated, but not be her true mate. When her mate dies and she ends up in the sights of some very bad people she goes to the one person she was told could help...Smoke. Little does she know she already knows him..very well!!
Smoke, aka Devon, is tending bar and keeping the ladies happy and then a blast from his less than salubrious past shows up. Scarlett still thinks of him as a hacker, and he is, but now he works for the good guys. He's just the help Scarlett needs but can he keep his mating instinct in check???
White hat hacker and lovable bad boy, Devon is just mouthwatering. Scarlett is fabulously feisty and is trying to put her crappy childhood behind her. I loved the premise my only wish was for it to be longer!
I'm really enjoying what I've read so far & am now on tenterhooks awaiting more!!!
Silas: He's big, he's badass and he made a promise to keep her far from the shifter life. What a pity she doesn't give a damn about the promise he made. Six years of misery later and Silas and Hannah are still in a flirting limbo but Hannah has had enough. Silas is going to man(or more likely wolf up) or she's done waiting.
Silas is fully aware that Hannah is his mate but through some very weird family connections he doesn't want to drag her into the shifter life. However that doesn't stop him from waging war against every other guy that comes a sniffing around!!!
When a night out with a friend takes a dangerous turn and Hannah is left fighting for her life, Silas has to go back on his word and Hannah may just get more than she bargained for!!!!
Complex characters, witty backchat, some truly weird step-sibling relationships ad human traffickers mare this a wonderful story!!! The steam comes late in the story but it is truly worth waiting for! Shade makes another appearance and I truly hope we get to see more of him soon, he is very mysterious!!! I'm hoping he's a good guy but with him you probably won't know till the last second!
Darien: I love these books - they are like your favourite TV drama - each leads seamlessly into the next!
We rejoin the gang after Thea has been rescued from the Human Traffickers. She is now staying with Silas, as the others are all loved up and/or newly mated so she doesn't want to be a 3rd wheel. She somehow feels safe and not intimidated by the brooding Darien. She's determined to never be a victim again, but one step at a time - she needs to be able to sleep on her own first!
Darien feels a connection to Thea but doesn't want to crowd her after what she's been through. He doesn't want to come across as another male wanting to own her. Thea also feels the connection but is scared to make a move in case Darien rejects her, cos what if he's just being a nice guy and doesn't really want her?
But what happens when one of Thea’s old friends with benefits shows up and tries to rekindle their intimate escapades? Have we seen the last of the traffickers, or will they once more rear their ugly heads?
Fabulous fast paced read and the so called “Last Man Standing” may not be standing for that much longer! Love the snarky humour between the siblings and their friends and the passion just sizzles off the page!!
Wren: Sadly this is the final book in the Wolves of the Rising Sun series. I've loved this series of hot alphas and the women who bring them to their knees!
Wren and Bella had a few hot nights of passion and then she turned up on packland he found out she was a fed!! Now she's still poking around in pack business, she's trying to find out Fishers involvement in the human trafficking ring that almost got Thea.
we finally get to meet the kingpin of the organisation and just what Fisher has been upto. Is he the mole or deep undercover as he keeps saying he is? I also loved the wee glimpse of a certain crew of dragons - please tell me this is another series?!?!?!
Brilliant, story, engaging characters and wonderfully written passionate encounters!!!
I was gifted these stories individually from Kenzie Cox, in exchange for my honest review.
Introducing "The Davennes: Wolves of the Rising Sun Vol 2" inside are the last 4 installments from Kenzie Cox in her "Wolves of the Rising Sun" series & the "Mating Season" collection. Once I started reading this series, I quickly fell in love with the storyline & characters, devouring each installment so quickly, leaving me WANTING more as soon as possible. Please read the "Wolves of the Rising Sun"series in order. I've added my reviews for each book below....
Craved, book 4.... It feels like it's been FOREVER since I last devoured an installment of Kenzie's "Wolves of the Rising Sun"... but within the first chapter I was lost in the story. Then I had soon finished, leaving me NEEDING more. Scarlett is going to the one person her mate told her would help, but when the meeting starts an old flame interrupts, someone she thought she'd never see again. Devon is just passing time & the attractive women at the bar is his latest distraction.... I will say, this time I felt like the book could have been longer, hang on they all could have, but Kenzie left this installment in such a way, that I have sooo many questions. My fingers are crossed they get answered in the uncoming installments.
Silas, book 5.... I quickly devoured this installment of Kenzie's "Wolves of the Rising Sun"... once again I was lost within the story. Next thing I knew I was finished, why did it have to finish??? Silas made a promise 6 years ago to always protect Hannah from the shifter lifestyle, although he's always wanted her, he keeps his promise... Hannah has always loved Silas, but over the last 6 years he's made it obvious he wont take the next step, Hannah decides to move on for good.... Oh my goodness, the tension between Silas & Hannah... I could feel it coming out of my ereader. Then the unthinkable happens & Silas isn't given a chance to keep his promises (so not going to ruin it for you), but damn it's good. The suspense Kenzie kept me in, WOW... I can't wait for the next installment.
Darien, book 6.... I devoured this installment of Kenzie's "Wolves of the Rising Sun", quickly losing myself in the words I was reading. And what words they were. Too quickly for my liking I was finished. Darien has promised to protect Thea as she recovers from the trauma of being kidnapped, he's there for her, but his wolf is growing attached.... Thea doesn't want to leave Darien, but feels she's in the way, especially after her life has been turned upside down recently..... The interractions between Darien & Thea were fun to read, whilst Darien's wolf starts feeling a bond, Thea & Darien can't seem to get the correct words out. That ending, just WOW. I can't wait to read what happens next.
Wren, book 7.... At first I didn't want to start reading 'Wren' I'm a little sad because I learnt that this is the final book in the "Wolves of the Rising Sun" series. But I just HAD to read it, & I devoured it quickly, instantly drawn into the story. A chance meeting, a fiery night, left Wren's wolf feeling empty, but he's unable to search for the women who caused it, he has to find the people responsible for the kidnapping of women in his hometown. That is until he bumps into her again.... FBI agent Bella, has turned to the dragon's to help solve her most difficult case yet, leaving her meeting she bumps into the wolf who makes her feel whole.... EVERYTHING in this was put together so well, it made me feel like I too was helping Wren & Bella solve the case. Lets not forget the way these two interract with one another, WOW! I will say Kenzie has now left me wondering about a certain dragon & the clan keeping the city safe.
More trouble, love, and wolves on the Bayou! Craved Five years since Scarlett abandoned Devon (Smoke now), a lot has changed for both of them, the one thing that has not is how much each loves the other. Now if Scarlett can just get over the past then everything would be perfect, well except for the fact that she is running for her life. Enchanting tale to add to the Wolves of the Rising Sun and Mating Season collections, you have to love the characters, always sassy and usually up to no good (justifiable no good anyway), but always hearts of gold no matter what gets thrown their way!
Silas Hannah and Silas have wanted each other for six years, even though they are convoluted family, but due to a deathbed promise to Hannah’s mother Silas will not claim her even knowing she is his true mate. Hannah decides she has had enough and starts plotting to get Silas to claim her, but the unexpected happens and Silas has to choose between claiming Hannah and losing her forever. Loved this story! I just knew Silas was not as big a jerk as he first seemed! The story of Wolves of the Rising Sun just gets better and better, and the Mating Season Collection is pure genius!
Darien Darien has been helping and comforting Thea after her ordeal and it is killing him to remain gentlemanly. Little does he know Thea does not want him to! As things are heating up there, the mysterious Will shows back up and causes trouble and again what is up with Fischer,, he seems to be right in the middle of trouble but when things don’t go his way he claims “good guy under cover” not sure I’m buying it! This continues to be an outstanding series within the phenomenal Mating Season Collection; I just cannot get enough of these characters!
Wren Wren finds his happy ever after in Bella, but they have quite the adventure first. With all the Davenne boys, except Wren, happily mated the most urgent matter becomes finding Shade and taking him down along with the human trafficking ring that tried to take Hannah and hurt Thea. Of course, guess who is put on the case…Bella! Wren can’t believe he runs into Bella while getting info on Shade, he’s wanted her ever since they had a fling two weeks ago, but even though she wants him she feels she needs to stay professional about the case, now she just needs to convince herself of that! What happens instead is they start working together on it. However, when it comes right down to it they find that not everyone is who they seem and it almost costs Bella her life, good thing Wren has connections so he can save her in the nick of time…. what more could you want, sexy, gorgeous, wolf and pretty much a personal super hero. I am a great fan of the mating season and admittedly, Wolves of the Rising Sun has been one of my favorite series, great storyline, unforgettable characters and totally swoon worthy heroes (and the heroines are pretty cool too)!
Jace This is a great little short paranormal romance. Skype Michaels is a plus size model who broke up with her jerk boy friend and hide out in a town in Louisiana to get her head clear and to take the photos she loves so much. It also helps that this town has this good looking guy named Jace. She has had a crush on him for 3 years and he has had one on her as well. Still trouble is brewing and this story has some nice little twists in it and action too. I will be checking out the rest of the series! Kenzie Cox is a great writer and the book was fun to read. Aiden Rayna has had a love/crush on Aiden since she was 15 her best friend is Aiden's brother Luc. Aiden being the wolf that he is was been fighting his attraction to Rayna for over 3 years. Now he is giving in to his need for her but where will it lead? Add to that mix danger with hunters, drama, and oh so steamy bedroom scenes this book has everything I would want in a fun little paranormal romance. The story is not a cliffhanger but it does give the writer an opening for another book. Since there is one single brother I am hoping she writes a story for him! and believe me I am sooooo looking forward to reading next book too. I am going to have to see what else she has out . She is great! Lucy Ever since Luc Riveaux mom took off on them when he was young he closed his heart. But now with Arianna Simms (a friend of his brother's mate) he is starting to open up but the Riveaux's family enemy is at it again. Danger, drama and hotness lurk at every corner of the swamp. Can Arianna except the life Luc lives to find true happiness? wow what a great storyline. I love the characters in this series. If your into shifter romance then you will love this. I own all these books but I got them separately. What a great set
First there is Devon and Scarlett then Silas and Hannah and on to Darien and Thea lastly, but at least we have Wren and Bella. In this the Davennes story of the mating seasonally will be swooning with the passion. Horrified with the crimes against women. Surprised by the twists and turns the stories take. I really liked the fact that the Davenne s and the Riveauxs stories intertwined. My recommendation is to read this series from the beginning. Starting with "Wolves of the rising Sun". All stories have their own HEA but there is a bigger picture. Great stories every one of them. So if you are into wolf shifters, hot passionate sex. Ferreting out the true bad guy and gasping at the twist of a story then you'll be pleased by the HEA of each story and the a ha of the conclusion. 5 stars I loved loved loved these stories
Kenzie Cox writes amazing novellas. These wolves were some of her most exciting stories. I love that they are all connected, but each is a very different story. I'm always amazed by how much action she can fit into each one. I definitely recommend them if you are looking for a quick read that will leave you on the edge of your seat, and now you can get them all in this set.
