Wow! Now that’s an ending that I definitely hadn’t seen coming! FBI agent, Aubrey, has been given what she thinks is the chance of a lifetime to advance in the ranks, a promotion of sorts, or so her mentor and boss indicate. But at what cost? Chase Bends is out with his troupe for a night on the town. But something feels off! When confronted, will he finally let his lifelong secret out? Will his life fall down at his feet? When he finds himself kidnapped, and unable to protect himself, he’s not too sure what will happen to him. All he knows is that he can’t give up! Lots of excitement, mystery, and a villain you definitely could not have guessed, this book will have you on the edge of your seat from page one to the end.
So my first major gripe is that the blurb is utter bullshit. Blurbs are how we find out what a story is about and that one is laughably inaccurate. No spoilers, but she isn't hunting him at all. Never even close to it. Now, I am a complete sucker for conspiracies and the base of the one in this story is solid. The twist was a nice touch. But the author just didn't do a lot with it. And it fizzled imo. The next bit is very spoilery and is a major gripe for me. Tl;dr sans spoilers? Too much tell, not enough show. The major reason for my rating when you come right down to it is wasted potential. It's a thing that bothers me a LOT. A mediocre book is mediocre, I can deal with it. A book that could be really good but then just... isn't? Ticks me off. The author had the skill and creativity to have written an epic and badass story. It would have been longer, obviously, but it would have been AMAZING. Sigh.
This was a very well-written, intriguing shifter story that I enjoyed reading immensely. Chase is a dragon shifter, something he quite readily accepted as a child, but kept secret just like the other members of his family. Now he is a high ranking officer in the Navy SEALS, but is being plagued by unexplained dreams involving his older sister, Katie. Pre-occupied one night, Chase walks into a trap and finds himself held prisoner in an underground military prison, along with other shifters - but those in charge have over-estimated themselves and under-estimated him. Aubrey is an agent in the FBI; she has been moving up the ranks quickly, and as a consequence she is offered a top secret project – a life changing one. But she has not been chosen for her abilities; this “promotion” is nothing to be proud of. When brought to trial, Chase is able to change into his Dragon form and make his escape; unfortunately, Aubrey is shot and seriously injured and Chase as no option but to take her with him. Fearing for her life he has no option but to give her his blood, thereby forming a connection between them that can never be severed. On the run, it is now time for Chase to locate his sister, Katie – he has questions that need answering, but to finally find peace he has to go home. I really liked this book and would have no hesitation in recommending it. I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
What can I say about this book , half of it the two main characters doesn't meet and the second half is so rush that you really can't get to know what is really going on. The book makes no sense and the hero is just to weak and heroine is bland , lets not even talk about the stupid " bad guy " , the plot is so bad and ridiculous. I am given it a two star on the hope the author will get better with more experience.
I received this book as an ARC for an honest review. It is a stand alone book with a HEA. I enjoyed the story, for me it took a little long to get to the actual plot of the book. Once it got started it was a wonderful read. Looking forward to more books by this author.
Great read. Didn't see where they were going with the dangers and the trials that the shifters were put thru by the hidden powers that be. Looking forward to seeing how the commanders orders are carried out in the future.
Loved the book, it is a nice short read. It keep your attention throughout the book...would love to see a sequel to find out what happens with the family dynamics latter in their lives..
This was a great book, then the end was just suddenly slammed on your lap. I was a bit thrown by it actually. However despite this I recommend this book
